You seem friendly

Hi, I just stumbled across you whilst browsing the Jewish Wikipedians. You seem friendly and interesting. Did you really go around Tippexing out incorrect apostrophes? More importantly, how much did it cost, how long did it take and did you get in trouble? As you can hear, we have a shared love of apostrophes.

Also, how/when/why/where did you learn so many languages? I have a yearning to learn lots and lots of languages (ancient ones and cool ones at the top of the list), but so far I merely have English, (Modern) Hebrew, German (still learning), Latin (still learning) and Ancient Greek (still learning). I tried to teach myself Egyptian Hieroglyphs, but ran out of free time.

When I first saw your contributions, I thought its some kind of vandalism in progress as you seem to edit pretty fast (the reason I now understand is that most of them are minor edits involving "its" and "it's"). When I checked out I was really happy to find someone doing the job most of us consider too mundane and possibly not worth understanding. You seem to have a fair amount of trouble understanding copyright policies as well. Even the Copydown image of yours had a deprecated copyright license. My survey has changed. I am now continuing my mission for the best songs, but now I am accepting all genres. I just ran across your userpage (I can't remember how), and I noticed the userbox on your page that says "This user believes that Christian fundamentalists should read the New Testament once in a while." What exactly do you mean by that? Because if you mean that if "Christian Fundamentalists" would read the New Testament more often, they would see that their views are wrong, I think that you're mistaken. It's precisely because of the fact that Christians were finally able to read the New Testament (after it was finally translated into English from the Latin Vulgate) for themselves (instead of the priests reading it for them) that fundamentalism was formed. What exactly do you think "fundamentalists" believe that does not go along with the Bible? I certainly think that a lot of people have done things in the name of Christ that simply shouldn't have been done. I believe it is not acceptable to try to force people to accept one's own views. However, I don't believe in a "modernized Jesus;" Jesus was a very, very loving person (hence why He died to save the world), but He did condemn a lot of things people did. He called the Pharisees "brooding vipers," and once when speeking to Peter, He said "Get away from me Satan. Your ways are not the ways of God." Condeming is sometimes a part of loving. Jesus condemned certain actions because He believed it was for the good of the people. Love isn't just about making people happy; when a parent punishes a child, is she trying to make the child happy? No. But is she being loving in caring for the child's own good? Yes.

I do agree that a lot of Old Testament passages are vague, but not all of them. As far as homosexuality and the Old Testament is concerned, it is summed up quite clearly in Leviticus 18:22, "Do not lie with a man as one lies with a woman; that is detestable." (NIV) St. Paul's ideas of homosexuality reflect that verse. This doesn't mean that people can't love other people of the same sex, they just can't (according to the Bible) lie with them, if you know what I mean. David and Jonathan loved each other very, very deeply.

Jesus (and St. Paul) didn't condone sin; they both hated it. They didn't hate the people who were sinning, but just their sin. And as it says in Revelation, Jesus (at the 2nd Coming) will judge everyone based on their works. And according to the Scriptures, the people who didn't trust Jesus and turn from their ways will not escape that judgment. According to the Bible, no one is righteous in God's sight, not Christians, not anybody; all are in need of forgiveness.

One more thing: it is only from Paul and his fellow apostles (such as Luke) that we know anything about Jesus at all. I hope all this makes sense! Take care, P.B. Pilhet (Talk to me here) 22:43, 2 October 2006 (UTC)

I'm glad we're pretty much on the same wave length. While I tolerate homosexuals (this is America, and everybody has a right to have their own beliefs), I myself don't support them (I love them, but don't condone some of their actions). As far as love is concerned, I'm with you on the point that gender is mental (not sex though, just love).

I get iritated, too, when people condemn some sins but not all of them. Sin is sin, and each is just as wrong as the other, although some have worse consequences than others.

Image size

I believe that images should be generally entered as thumb, without an explicit size, so that individual users can choose what size is best for them in terms of download bandwidth (speed and cost), and in terms of ink used when printing (particularly for drafts of changes). I appreciate the value of a good colourful photograph in the right place in an article, but:

• if you like big pictures you can set your default in my preferences
• if you like small pictures, then ditto
• different browsers will show different things to different people
• viewing on a different screen size will chanqe the appearance greatly from the "ideal" set by one editor on a given computer

First of all, you can call me by my real name, Nick, It feels kinds weird being called Maddox. I don't really have any plans for the future. I want to really travel the globe and see a lot of different countries and things but I'm not really sure what I can do that will allow me to do that. That really sucks that you got cheated on by the person you loved. That happened to me once but I wasn't really sure whether i loved the girl yet or not, but it still hurt a lot.

Hi there,

As a current Adopter with the Adopt-a-User program there has been some ongoing developments that we would like to bring to your attention.

A new Adopter's Area has been created where you can find useful resources and other Adopter's experiences. Please feel free to add any resources you may have found useful as an Adopter, as well as recount any experiences that you think may help others. If you know of any useful resources for new users / Adoptees then you can add them here.

Also the way the adoption process works has changed slightly. To decrease workload at Category:Wikipedians seeking to be adopted in Adopt-a-user, on offering adoption please change the {{Adoptme}} template to {{Adoptoffer}} on the user's user page, and this will add the user to Category:Wikipedians having been offered adoption. Users that have already been offered adoption can always have a second or third offer, but by separating out those users that have not had an adoption offer yet, it is hoped that no one will go lacking.

Furthermore numerous Adopters have been adding their details to a list of users available for adopting, to offer a more personalised service and allow new users to browse through and pick their own Adopter. The quickest way to adopt though, is still to contact users at the Category:Wikipedians seeking to be adopted in Adopt-a-user.

Don't accuse me of vandalism. It is my privilege to remove copyrighted and non-notable information from Wikipedia though. That tends to be Wikipedia policy.

I took a closer look this morning and found the website. While I am dubious of the copyright claim (anyone can claim a copyright on his website, true or not), I have to respect it. To my knowledge, this person did not pen the material, and the song is not "anti-" anything. However, I have edited the entry again to satisfy Wiki policy. As to "non-notable" you are not familiar with the affection and respect US troops on the ground gave "Puff" aircrews because the gunships' intervention often saved the lives of US ground troops. This version of the song was well known in military circles.

For the record, you'e entitled to express whatever opinion you'd like. I have no problem with that. I did notice from your Talk page and notes on Administrator pages that you seem to be in frequent conflict with both other users and Wikipedia administrators. Have you considered whether a more conciliatory approach from your part might help you? You catch more flies with honey than vinegar (or something like that). Outside national anthems, it is not Wikipedia policy to copy songs word for word. Not even if they're in the public domain and the most popular song ever, never mind if they are unverifiable whose lyrics exist nowhere but on one site and on Wikipedia mirrors. All claims have to be verified. It's no use saying that it's notable because of personal experience; it has to be backed up with a neutral, respectable source for proof. Take the 1947-48 Palestinian Civil War article that I am writing, or the one about Human Rights in Bangladesh. Every claim that could be questioned had to be backed up. That is official policy: Wikipedia:Verifiability.

Incidentally, I do wish that you would stop with the on-the-side attempts to tarnish my reputation. It is unbecoming and rather insensitive, and sniffing around for dirt on me isn't exactly model Wikipedian behaviour. I have never had a conflict with a Wikipedian administrator: every contact that I have had with them has been amicable, and I can think of only one 'debate', about Charles Matthews' comments on unilateralism, and that was a friendly exchange of views in which I was entitled to participate. As for 'frequent' clashes with other Wikipedian users, well, that's another mudslung accusation. I often welcome new users; I have adopted new users to ensure that they learn the ways of Wikipedia; and, with very few exceptions, my correspondance with others, even with vandals, has been amicable. The only people to whom I take exception are those who attack me (million dollars guy), revert good faith edits, or start vanity articles and keep on removing AFD notices. Are you saying that that's excusable and that I should let this kind of thing happen? Clashes with these people are few and far between, at any rate, so much so that the last conflict other than the one that you created by calling me a vandal was back in December 2005, with a vanity editor who kept on removing AFD notices. Over 99% of the time, I work in harmony, and 99.99% of the time with people who play by the rules, which is more than can be said for most. Thus, I would that you would retract your troubling and fallacious comments about my being frequently in conflict, a statement that is a stain on my personality and patently false.
