Question for administrator[edit]

HELP! this biography [[1]] needs to be deleted, or cleaned up and blocked.

I have severe time constraints, am currently living abroad, cannot readily follow-up on facts, and do not know what Wiki’s policy is when somebody shamelessly uses his bio to promote himself despite several attempts to edit it according to Wiki standards. On August 30, 2010, I did some revising but a few days later, as expected, all my work was undone. IMO, the bio should be entirely deleted or corrected and once corrected, should be protected. But there is very little verifiable information on Chris Kacher.

Here are the facts, major problems, and inaccuracies with the Wiki bio:

1. Chris Kacher’s Wikipedia bio does not follow wiki standards, is subjective and 99.9% of the info on Chris Kacher is provided by Chris Kacher himself or one of his associates, see [2] and my comments below.

Chris Kacher, aka Christian D. Kacher, aka Chris Casher, is an expert at self-promotion and self-aggrandizement, who uses Wikipedia to sell himself and his products: his CDs and his latest a book that got only 5-star reviews on Amazon! His Wikipedia bio is referenced several times on his own websites and used all over the internet, from the UK [3] to Russia (forgot to bookmark). It’s amazing to see how far wiki info spreads, just google “Chris Kacher”. That’s why the wiki bio should be accurate and not regurgitate what Kacher supplies. Kacher watches his bio like a hawk. Any attempts to use only verifiable documents (almost none available), bald facts, and neutral language will be changed back to highly subjective and misleading information with numerous inaccuracies and obvious hyperbole which helps promote his investment and music businesses. I have reason to believe he is also master of sock puppetry and uses his cronies to sell himself and his products.

2. Kacher is not a nuclear physicist and prior to my digging up the Ph.D. his bio listed a Ph.D. in nuclear physics, a lie. He received a Ph.D. in Chemistry (“Chemical and Nuclear Properties of Rutherfordium, Element 104”) from U. C. Berkeley in 1995 [4]. To date, there is no separate subspecialty of Nuclear Chemistry and a nuclear chemist is not the same as a nuclear physicist as his associate Morales claims in the comments on SeekingAlpha, see 9.

Here is what Michael Baker, Staff, Environmental Science and Waste Technology, Los Alamos National Laboratory said what it takes to be a nuclear physicist [5].

3. Kacher (if it is one and the same Kacher) did graduate work in nuclear chemistry at the Nuclear Science Division, MS-88, Lawrence Berkeley Laboratory University of California, Berkeley, California 94720 and published his Ph.D. 15 years ago. He never did postgraduate work as a nuclear chemist nor did he work in the industry. In the USA it is not common practice to apply the title of a profession to a person who never practiced the profession nor is the title “Dr.” used except academically (from his accent I suspect he may have a foreign background too [6]. IMO, even calling Kacher a nuclear chemist is far-fetched (he liberally uses the term physicist - it sounds so much more impressive to the nonscientists, doesn’t it).

4. These two sentences, stricken by me reappeared but should be stricken:

a. First paragraph: “In conjunction with his investment career, Dr. Kacher helped to make the first atom of element 110 and confirm the discovery of element 106 which the research group of which he was a member named Seaborgium.”

Totally ridiculous unscientific nonsense, the first atom of element 110 already existed and Kacher, lowly grad student in the academic hierarchy, did not confirm anything. He was merely member of the research team.

b. Third paragraph under “Career”: “From 1994 to 1995, Christian Kacher helped to make the first atom of element 110 and did a confirmation discovery on element 106 which his research group named Seaborgium after his Nobel Laureate mentor Professor Glenn T. Seaborg. Kacher holds a Ph.D. in nuclear chemistry from the University of California Berkeley and has published over 50 scientific research articles.”

Again, the same unscientific assertions and misleading statements.

5. I reviewed all the Kacher publications before and the current set which is new. Kacher was the lead author of only a single article [7] published shortly after his Ph.D. It seems to summarize his Ph.D. thesis, if it was ‘his’ thesis’. In all the other research articles I found, he was an “also-ran” graduate student.

6. I am certain Nobel Laureate (in chemistry) Glenn T. Seaborg was not his mentor. Kacher was a graduate student roughly between 1991 and 1995. Glenn Seaborg was born in 1912 and at about 80 years of age no scientist I know of still mentors students.

7. Kacher stated in one of the interviews that his mother was in the investment business and in his own Wiki bio this statement appears: “In May 1995, Kacher started one of the first online stock advisory services which he called The Virtue of Selfish Investing. The number of subscribers grew exponentially into the thousands in a few short months,...”, all while at the same time “making atoms”. Nobody I know wrote their Ph.D. dissertation while also running an investment service.

8. Online I found a reference to a Chris Kacher, reportedly born 1968, another stated two different birth certificates, his age being recorded in Geneva, Switzerland but I did not deem the source reliable and didn’t bookmark it. Are they two different Kacher or did he merely play investor while somebody else did the work in nuclear chemistry?

9. Kacher was interviewed on SeekingAlpha [8] by a person calling himself “John Ward” who wrote exactly 3 articles, all interviews with Kacher. Because of the hyperbole in the interview (not even Warren Buffett makes 18,000% profit over 7 years and somebody who did wouldn’t need to write books and drum up business), I couldn’t resist commenting on the Ph.D. in the comment section. His partner, Gil Morales, replied rather nastily but Chris wrote a long comment directed at me. I am certain he read my wiki discussion and notes [9].

10. ‘Notes’ should be changed to references. Only 1) is truly independent and objective references. ‘Notes 2-6’ are either Mr. Kacher’s own websites or, like number 2, unverifiable.

11. Note 7) his Charles D. Coryell Award needs to be verified. Of 33 recipients only Christian D. Kacher’s name is inserted using Times New Roman, all other are in the same font, Verdana [10].

12. His O’Neill/CAN SLIM association and terrific profits need to be verified.

13. All References of Kacher’s wiki bio need to be stricken. They are either irrelevant or are from his investment partner Gil Morales. Kevin Marder is a direct associate of Gil Morales. According to MarketWatch [11] Marder is a guest columnist and a cofounder of MarketWatch. He is principal of Marder Investment Advisors Corp. and a contributor to The Gilmo Report [12].

14. All publications should be stricken. Publications are not listed under Wiki Einstein or most scientists. If publications are listed, then only his Ph.D. and the single article where he is the main author.

15. The child prodigy cannot be verified and should be stricken. From listening to Kacher’s performance and after checking the official Suzuki Method site, I view the following as typical Kacher hyperbole: “In 2003, Kacher, once a child prodigy concert pianist with Suzuki Method Institute under Harlow Mills, took time off to compose music”.

According to the Suzuki method, all children are talented little geniuses and can learn to be good musicians. On its official website the Suzuki Association of the Americas lists their journal back to the early 1970s, a time when Kacher could have been their student [13]. Children Concerts and Tours to Japan seem to have been the usual thing [14]. Unfortunately the links provided do not lead to any articles.

Here are Kacher’s main websites, he also has websites under “health” and “wellness”, most of them listing his Wiki bio. To may be interested in URL number 6 below, scroll down to thumbnail number 12, to the right you’ll see “Phat/Bitch,” the real Chris Kacher?

His Blog [24]

Since I am abroad, I can only check online sources. I have checked the Los Angeles Times and New York Times but Kacher’s name does not come up. It may now because of the publication of the book and Kacher’s and Morales’ book tour and appearances with the various financial talking heads. I’ve also checked FINRA and the SEC under Kacher and his various investment names, to no avail. I haven’t checked Gil Morales yet.

Sources to be checked - but is it worth it?:

1. Prof. Darleane C. Hoffman, Dept. of Chemistry, UC Berkeley [25] under whose supervision Kacher wrote his Ph.D., to get verification and info or perhaps access to public documents at Berkeley.

2. William O’Neill, Los Angeles [26] - cannot do it online or via e-mail, could try in person once I get back to the US in November - but is it worth it? Did O’Neill endorse their book [27]?

Please take care of this particular case of blatant wikipedia abuse. I am afraid there won’t be much of a bio without the fanciful elaboration provided by Mr. Kacher.

Thank you,

  • Why don't you correct the article and cite your references within the article? You seem to have done a lot of leg work - modify the article to meet your requests.. just make sure it meets the requirements of WP:BLP. You don't need an administrator to do this. -- Crazysane (T/C\D) 16:50, 13 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]
  • I see you said you have time constraints, and though you seemed to have taken a lot of time to write this all out, you don't want to edit the article yourself. I'm adding the {{helpme}} tag so other editors might help you. Admin help here isn't required. -- Crazysane (T/C\D) 16:52, 13 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you for this information. I have nominated it for a deletion discussion at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Chris Kacher. JamesBWatson (talk) 17:05, 13 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

To Crazysane, Did the research in August, corrected bio, a few days later all my corrections were undone. I am too sane to correct it a second time. Kacher and friends will immediately undo it. Am not a regular wiki user, but go crazy when I see somebody misuse Wiki like Kacher is doing. Imyoung (talk) 19:24, 13 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

To James B Watson, Thanks a lot, that's what is needed. Don't have time to learn how to use Wiki or "talk" back. Imyoung (talk) 19:24, 13 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

By the way, he replied. As for your earlier corrections, I believe there's an undo button that you can press. Let's see if he's really a genius or a fraud... Bobthefish2 (talk) 00:31, 15 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Cancer[edit]

I'm not sure what motivated you to use the "strikeout" attribute in the lead section of cancer. You also suggested that a diagnosis could be made from physical examination and blood tests. Personally I would not want to treat someone with a breast lump without a histological diagnosis, nor would I treat leukaemia without a bone marrow aspirate and biopsy. Could I suggest that you discuss further intended changes to this article on Talk:Cancer? JFW | T@lk 06:51, 1 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]

HELP - Clenbuterol needs clean-up[edit]

Clenbuterol contains a lot of inaccuracies. It needs to be cleanded up. Can somebody please flag this as needing some heavy editing.

I am a physician and to this date Clenbuterol in the US has only been approved for use in HORSES. I suspect the same may hold true for the EU since the manufacturer, Boehringer-Ingelheim, the German manufacturer lists it only for veterinary use. Therefore no micrograms for humans should be given. My suspicion is that bodybuilders will alter the information.

Please flag. when I have more time, I'll make corrections but have trouble with your system citing references. I may place them in the text.

Strikethough[edit]

Please do not use strikethough in editing articles. Past revisions can be compared to the current revision under "View history".Novangelis (talk) 21:45, 28 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Imyoung. I just wanted to re-iterate Novangelis's point. When you edit articles, please delete any material that you are replacing, rather than marking it with strikethrough.VoluntarySlave (talk) 00:54, 30 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Am being blocked[edit]

To Administrator

For several months now I have been blocked because of my IP. I have been staying at motels and must use a VPN since their WiFi is not safe. If you cannot unblock me and let me correct a Rauschenberg entry, then please correct it yourself. Thank you.

Under "Life and Career", paragraph 4 it states: "Josef Albers, a founder of the Bauhaus, became Rauschenberg's painting instructor at Black Mountain." That is not correct, he was a student, Gropius was the founder according to Wikimedia's on entries on Albers, Gropius and Bauhaus. [1] [2] [3] Imyoung (talk) 09:20, 27 June 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Administrator - Chris Kacher deletion[edit]

In August of 2010 I flagged Chris Kacher's biography, see first entry above. On 13 September 2010 JamesBWatson nominated bio for deletion: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Articles_for_deletion/Chris_Kacher. It was deleted thereafter.

However, Chris Kacher's bio reappeared in 2011. He obviously read my lengthy summary of unverifiable and self-promoting items and bio is now in modified form: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chris_Kacher.

In my view bio still does not conform to Wikipedia standards for biography of a living person and solely serves as a piece of self-promotion with several links to Kacher's own websites. It was edited by numerous bots, see here: https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Chris_Kacher&action=history.

In my view, this bio should be deleted. Thanks administrator for taking care of it. Imyoung (talk) 03:30, 28 June 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Survey Invite[edit]

I'm working on a study of political motivations and how they effect editing. I'd like to ask you to take a survey. The survey should take 5 minutes. Your survey responses will be kept private. Our project is documented at https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Research:Wikipedia_%2B_Politics.

Survey Link: http://uchicago.co1.qualtrics.com/jfe/form/SV_80J3UDCpLnKyWTH?Q_DL=2oczE7SODTUnF5j_80J3UDCpLnKyWTH_MLRP_eXRNsy9GyleJEnb&Q_CHL=gl

I am asking you to participate in this study because you are a frequent editor of pages on Wikipedia that are of political interest. We would like to learn about your experiences in dealing with editors of different political orientations.

Sincere thanks for your help! Porteclefs (talk) 15:29, 26 July 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Request to unblock[edit]

This user's unblock request has been reviewed by an administrator, who declined the request. Other administrators may also review this block, but should not override the decision without good reason (see the blocking policy).

Request reason:

For more than a year I have had to use a VPN service since I have been traveling and living in motels having to use WiFi which is unsafe, especially for online financial transactions. Since December 2016 I have been using ExpressVPN, a reputable VPN service.

Decline reason:

I'm sorry, but VPNs are blocked on sight because they serve as anonymizing proxies. While the added security of a VPN may be desirable for online banking, editing Wikipedia is much less of a security risk. You don't need the VPN for that. Huon (talk) 00:55, 13 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]

If you want to make any further unblock requests, please read the guide to appealing blocks first, then use the {{unblock}} template again. If you make too many unconvincing or disruptive unblock requests, you may be prevented from editing this page until your block has expired. Do not remove this unblock review while you are blocked.
