Political sources[edit]

Hello Igor. Thank you for your kind words. I guess my main source, at least for the very basic detail on elections and political parties is the Dieter Nohlen "Elections in..." series (there is a book for each continent - this is the Europe one). If I can't find enough information there, I search Google Books or The Times archive, which I have access to from my library card (which I used for this article). The latter is not massively helpful on all occasions, but sometimes contains some good information. Number 57 21:23, 8 December 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you for the timely answer, I am looking for more detailed information on elections in Austria (and subsequently Hungary) 1849-1918. Particularly absolute numbers, elligible voters, political system and so on. I am guessing Nohlen's book only gives relative figures (in terms percentages of the valid vote). Nonetheless, the +2000 page book seems quite impressive and I suppose one could say it is worth every penny. --Igor82 (talk) 21:54, 8 December 2013 (UTC)[reply]
The Nohlen book does have quite detailed results for the 1907 and 1911 elections in the Austrian part of the Empire, which I have put onto the respective articles. This includes vote totals for most parties, not just the percentage, although it doesn't match seat numbers to individual parties in all cases. However, there is nothing before 1907 in Austria, and nothing at all for the Hungarian part I'm afraid. If you do find something, it would be great if you could let me know. Good luck! Good to know, thank you once more. I have found some partial results for Dubrovnik (1907 and 1911) which was in the Austrian part unfortunately. From what I could understand, prior to 1907 the Austrian, and Hungarian, electoral system was based on specific segments of society (the Church, landowners, merchants etc.) which all head their respective seats in the Diet(s) and with constituencies, limited as they were, voting for representatives of their own "guild" so to speak. --Igor82 (talk) 02:56, 10 December 2013 (UTC)[reply]
