2009 time!

To a good 2008 and to an even better 2009. Happy New Year! Acalamari 23:40, 31 December 2008 (UTC)
Thank you so much :) Happy new year to you, too! Icy // 23:43, 31 December 2008 (UTC)

Speakin' from da heart

Thanks for speaking what you think in my RfA...I know that you thought that I should wait, but I just wanted to roll the dice and go for it. :) Right now, I am a little frustrated by the "civility" opposes... At least oppose on something that I've actually done before...one loosely interpreted uncivil comment warrants 2-3 opposes? (SandyGeorgia's vote would (sort of) give 3) Argh....I am fine with the "per response to Koji" opposes because I answered Koji as honestly as I could, but I really don't like the uncivil !votes because I try to be civil at all times.....anyway, rant over. :) Cheers friend! —Ed 17 (Talk / Contribs) 00:26, 7 January 2009 (UTC)

Some of the opposes were legit. Others weren't. I found your response to Koji perfectly civil and honest, and I really can't see what some of the voters see wrong in that. Anyways, we'll let this play out. If you fail, then "I shall have the great pleasure of telling you 'I told you so'..." or something like that. Icy // 00:57, 7 January 2009 (UTC)
My best guess is that they are opposing this part of my reply: "...why would I take time out of my day to read WP:PPOL before I am an admin..."
Evidently I should have read it before, but it's a little late for that, eh? :) Should have put "better late than never" somewhere in that reply to Koji... :) —Ed 17 (Talk / Contribs) 01:01, 7 January 2009 (UTC)
Apparently during an RfA isn't equal to "before I am an admin...", huh? :P To be truthful, I've only scanned that a couple of times ...when I was first applying for protection for one of those fangirl-ravaged Twilight-pages. I didn't want to come off as stupid, heh. It's not a completely boring or long policy to read. Read it if you haven't already. Here am I, giving advice to Ed of all people ...feel so stuck-up. Icy // 01:03, 7 January 2009 (UTC)
(@ small comment) Shaddup...give advice to me whenever you think I need it - every little bit helps. :) (@ rest) I will eventually...probably tomorrow if the RfA stops going downhill. :D —Ed 17 (Talk / Contribs) 01:36, 7 January 2009 (UTC)
Read it, but it won't help...it's too late. :) 36/19/11? Geesh...but oh well, I'll just stay in my content-building role. ;) —Ed 17 (Talk / Contribs) 16:33, 7 January 2009 (UTC)
Yup. Better watch your mouth, doesn't seem like everyone shares my opinion of you, civility-wise. I think I'll remain silent with the RfA until it closes ...and do something with USS Guam (CB-2) - a gnome can't do anything if she doesn't understand half of what she's reading. Icy // 16:36, 7 January 2009 (UTC)

(out) Eh, one lousy diff derailed that...and it wasn't like I was calling him dumb, I was calling what he said dumb...but I digress.
All in good time, my dear, but WOW does that have some bad grammar. :) —Ed 17 (Talk / Contribs) 16:42, 7 January 2009 (UTC)

I missed this discussion? :O
Anyhow, personally, I don't see your "dumb" comment as particularly disparaging. I mean...come on, that's the only time you've lashed out in your near three years here. Ever heard of The Seven Year Itch? Well, that's the three-year Wikipedian itch, if you think about it. :) Just too bad it happened so close to your RfA. —La Pianista (TC) 00:13, 8 January 2009 (UTC)

Remember when adding {{fact}} tags to this that almost all of it is copied from this ship's DANFS entry. :) —Ed 17 (Talk / Contribs) 01:40, 8 January 2009 (UTC)

Doesn't matter :P I'm too lazy and annoyed to add refs right now... Icy // 01:42, 8 January 2009 (UTC)

Connecticut meetup

Hi! We invite you to the Hartford, Connecticut meetup, currently scheduled for January 24, as the previous meetup was lightly attended due to a snowstorm. You are being notified because your name is listed on Wikipedia:Meetup/Hartford/Invite list. Cheers, –Juliancolton Tropical Cyclone 02:47, 12 January 2009 (UTC)

Aw, I kinda wish that I was still living in Connecticut right now... :) —Ed 17 (Talk / Contribs) 03:15, 12 January 2009 (UTC)
So take a plane. :) –Juliancolton Tropical Cyclone 03:24, 12 January 2009 (UTC)
LOL! Was not expecting that answer... :) I might have tried, but 13 days, the beginning of college and no money doesn't really help. :DEd 17 (Talk / Contribs) 03:36, 12 January 2009 (UTC)
Heh, well, if you win the lottery sometime during spring break and there happens to be a meetup that same day, you should go! –Juliancolton Tropical Cyclone 21:53, 12 January 2009 (UTC)
Sheesh, the snow didn't start 'till about four, and I'm less than half an hour from Hartford :P. But due to the fact that there were some people who aren't quite as close as I am who were planning on attending, the situation wouldn't have been as good. Yeah, Ed, you better come some time :P. Take a plane :P and how did this conversation get here? Icy // 21:55, 12 January 2009 (UTC)
Yeah, the snow wasn't even that bad. In any event, this discussion got here because I notified everybody who added themselves to this list, and Ed being the talk page stalker that he is responded. :) –Juliancolton Tropical Cyclone 22:15, 12 January 2009 (UTC)

(<- I'm getting paranoid... those colons are scaring me) Yeah, I kind of realized why I got it. I didn't expect it to get longer than the original message, though. -rolls eyes- Seriously, these TPS' are going to ruin my world ... Icy // 22:16, 12 January 2009 (UTC)

"Win the lottery"? Yeah...I wish that I could use that money to go to Connecticut...but I'd have to keep it for college. =/ Short enough as it is...I'm gonna hate paying back loans. :(
But, I'm sure that I will go back sometime to visit Colchester (family vacation some summer?).....don't worry, I'll be sure to visit you Icy. :D —Ed 17 (Talk / Contribs) 00:09, 13 January 2009 (UTC)

Maybe Ed is more than just a talk page stalker? User:Juliancolton/FacesJuliancolton Tropical Cyclone 00:43, 13 January 2009 (UTC)
Maybe Julian's more than just a talk page stalker? @Ed, I have a really good memory of any info of myself I give out on the web. It should be extremely, extremely difficult to find out who I am. You should have access to a lot of school and government files to figure out. Which a broke college student probably doesn't. -evil grin- Icy // 00:46, 13 January 2009 (UTC)
R-O-F-L-O-freakin'-L! That just gave me a massive laugh :) No, I have no idea where you live; sleep safe. :) —Ed 17 (Talk / Contribs) 00:49, 13 January 2009 (UTC)

Battle of Kilinochchi (2008–2009)

Hi Icy, I just saw your edit to Battle of Kilinochchi (2008–2009). AFAIK, according to WP:FN, we can include ref in the middle of a sentence. This was there since it covered the first part, and the other ref covers the second part. As you would have noticed the subject is very sensitive, and it's best to provide the inline cite directly where it is needed. Or there is the problem of someone coming along and adding a "citation needed" tag for it or removing the ref saying "invalid ref". I will change it back, unless there is anything else? Chamal talk 01:20, 14 January 2009 (UTC)

-headdesk- My mistake. Yes, I didn't remember that. Icy // 01:29, 14 January 2009 (UTC)

Stop being so flippin' modest. Looking through the page history, I see that you made 6 edits there. That's not 'barely scanned', is it?! TopGearFreak 17:59, 13 January 2009 (UTC)
Yes, it is :P That's <<six>> edits. Less than ten. I think I have twenty-nine or so on Alaska ...and look how many Ed has on that. I feel horrible for co-nomming. But always glad to help :) :) :) Icy // 20:26, 13 January 2009 (UTC)

(colon-paranoid...) Yes, Ed is a good person to ask. The Ai might do something useful... :) Now, back to 2001: A Space Odyssey, but only because I don't want to do Tom Sawyer... you have been blocked for myspacing ...hmm... Icy // 21:08, 16 January 2009 (UTC)

lol...did you see that Ecoleetage retired? -_- So annoying how people can drive good contributors away... —Ed 17 (Talk / Contribs) 21:10, 16 January 2009 (UTC)
Yes, less than an hour ago. I was going to go on Wyvern and get myself just to take it out on someone/something ...I really didn't think that it (his RfA) would go that far - I never thought he was an over-drama-y person, and it made me sick to see that redlink and the result. We lost someone valuable there, I'll miss those "wrong queue" jokes.
@Suzu, I checked up the definition of hypochondria: 1.Also, hy⋅po⋅chon⋅dri⋅a⋅sis  /ˌhaɪpoʊkənˈdraɪəsɪs/ [hahy-poh-kuhn-drahy-uh-sis]. Psychiatry: an excessive preoccupation with one's health, usually focusing on some particular symptom, as cardiac or gastric problems. 2.excessive worry or talk about one's health. Icy // 21:15, 16 January 2009 (UTC)
(@ the comment that was @ me) With everything you said, I agree...I saw the redlink at WP:EfD and my whole body just went cold..... —Ed 17 (Talk / Contribs) 21:21, 16 January 2009 (UTC)
@Ed, don't mind ;) ... about what you said about Eco ... "body went cold"? That's quite a good description... Icy // 21:56, 16 January 2009 (UTC)
So anyway... :) What's going on today? I had no school up here today and yesterday because of how bloody cold it is up here... —Ed 17 (Talk / Contribs) 21:58, 16 January 2009 (UTC)
Sheesh, it's "bloody cold" here, too. Some schools in the state had late opening 'cuz of temp >.> <<you have really, really been indefblocked for myspacing!>> @ what you said about me getting interesting in naval history - as a little kid, I always kind of liked historical warfare-stuff (I know - while Suzu was playing with dolls, I'm figuring out what a guillotine is o:), so it's not really a surprise ...Icy // 22:01, 16 January 2009 (UTC)
Inland, w/o wind chill, it was -28 here last night...with the wind chill, it was like -40 in some places...
Myspacing is healthy in small doses. :P
When I was in 6th grade, I read the 1,023 page The United States Navy in the Pacific during World War II (or something like that title)...yes, I was/am a nerd. (What is inside the parenthesis above scares me, btw) —Ed 17 (Talk / Contribs) 22:06, 16 January 2009 (UTC)
No, seriously - what's in the parentheses is completely true. Just finished 2001 ...that ending, that was a shock. I suppose it's similar to Hitchhiker as the ending leaves us unsatisfied, surprised, and ...I'm not sure. -shudder- I was listening to Hamasaki's "Talkin' 2 Myself" when I finished. I suppose it contributed to the effect ...am I rambling? Apologies. And I referred to myself as "us" again. Sheesh... needs sequel. Icy // 22:14, 16 January 2009 (UTC)

....oh wow. That....wasn't what I was expecting. Poor SDJ... —Ed 17 (Talk / Contribs) 01:32, 17 January 2009 (UTC)
That's what I was thinking. Drama on Wikipedia is bad enough, but when it takes on a person's life apart from on-wiki matters, it's really, really horrible. Time to introduce Rhana to the ins-and-outs of the "broken" world of RfA. Can't say that anyone likes it, though. Icy // 01:35, 17 January 2009 (UTC)
I'm just kinda ... numb right now...sort of like when Tom left... Eco was such a nice guy on here, and one thing during an RfA prompts this? —Ed 17 (Talk / Contribs) 01:38, 17 January 2009 (UTC)

(<-) That's what I felt like ...until everything with SDJ/Eco came up. I really didn't know what to think. It was completely unexpected, I was disappointed - not only by the actions and words of some of the people involved, but also with the RfA process. When I was new to RfA, I really didn't realize how anything was broken - it seemed fine. Then all this crap comes rushing out at me. Icy // 01:42, 17 January 2009 (UTC)

Well, I meant that I was numb over the SDJ/Eco thing...but here, from Eco's RfA, stated by Eco: "Warning SDJ that he opened himself up to off-Wiki stalking based on the revealing of his real identity on his Talk Page. I double-checked to confirm what could be located of him based on that information and reported to him that one could find his address, entrepreneurial efforts, place of employment and personal photographs. While SDJ stated he did not feel he would be stalked, he nonetheless thanked me and set his MySpace account to private."
Yes, RfA is broken. I totally agree. But let's assume all of what SDJ said was true for a sec...if it was, that was a perfectly valid oppose reason...you don't want a totally immature, anger-filled admin... —Ed 17 (Talk / Contribs) 01:54, 17 January 2009 (UTC)
No, we wouldn't. Icy // 01:58, 17 January 2009 (UTC)

Introduce me to what? Oh, and I already read that Eco/SDJ thing..(I never knew you could see who got banned) Oh and could you check this page out? Is posting those reading comprehension quizzes considered to be vandalizing? They have nothing to do with the article. ~Rђαηα~{♦}talk {♥} page14:24, 17 January 2009 (UTC)

Introduce you to the screwy world of RfA. I would remove the reading comprehension quizzes - they don't seen to be saying anything constructive. I would go to the IP's talk pages, start a new section labeled "January 2009" and insert a {{subst:uw-vandalism1}} - along with my signature, of course :). He's already been warned once - in August, and if he continues you can go on with {{subst:uw-vandalism2}}, then just add a third level one if he continues, then fourth ...if he vandalizes past the fourth and final warning, then you can report hin to WP:AIV - but only if he's currently active. This provides a list of warnings/warning lvls. Icy // 20:08, 17 January 2009 (UTC)

I meant to ask have you used Iconn yet, Icy, sorry about that. I was too busy giving someone a warning for unnecessary reading quizzes...as well as practicing citing using the "insert citation" thing.Rђαηα (talk) 16:30, 24 January 2009 (UTC)

I would, Rhana, but I can't find my library card :) And I ...er, dislike Iconn. Icy // 21:07, 24 January 2009 (UTC)
Yah, Icy? You don't need a library card as long as you are part of the town/state. Rђαηα (talk) 15:21, 28 January 2009 (UTC)
Huh? Now I'm confused - oh, bother. I'll stick iConn in the back of my head and figure it out sometime. Icy // 15:24, 28 January 2009 (UTC)
Omg, Icy-chan, there is something that says "Don't have a library card?" You click that and THEN you can access Iconn. Not that hard. :) Rђαηα (talk) 16:25, 28 January 2009 (UTC)
Later :) Icy // 16:31, 28 January 2009 (UTC)
Update: "We are sorry but your IP does not match any IP within the State of Connecticut." :P Icy // 18:01, 28 January 2009 (UTC)
