North american union

Howdy, I saw the content you added to the North american union article. A very similarly titled article was deleted (by Articles for deletion) a few days ago. Wikipedia does not permit the recreation of articles which were deleted, except by deletion review. I have tagged the article for deletion, if the article is subtantially similar to the deleted page. I want to help

id like to help with the north american union article. it looks like a pretty weak consensus that the original article was deleted with. this is a commonly used term and needs an article of its own, but its going to be tricky. i think the advice on the talk page was good, it would be a good idea to replace the redirect for the time being and work out the kinks. if the article sticks, then there will be less red tape to cut through in order to get the article name with proper caps restored. --PopeFauveXXIII 09:51, 5 August 2007 (UTC)

Sorry, you're saying put your redirect back, move the article to my userspace and then somehow apply for a Deletion Review? Wouldn't the current article need to stay in place with the deletion review tag? Hutcher 16:41, 5 August 2007 (UTC)
as it stands, the article will not withstand review and will most likely be deleted again. im suggesting that it be removed it for a few days to avoid compounding the controversy unecessarily and then replace it when the time comes to declare it a legitimate article. --PopeFauveXXIII 18:10, 5 August 2007 (UTC)

North American Union

Please do not add actual article categories to unfinished sandbox pages such as your draft of User:Hutcher/North American Union. You can add the appropriate categories when it's ready to be moved into article space, but unfinished sandbox pages should not be appearing in article categories in the meantime. Thanks. Actually, this is an article he rescued from being deleted to have time to improve it. The categories were already there. I should have told him to disable them when I recommended he move the page toa sandbox. Also, you didn't have to delete the categories - simply putting a colon in front of each cat will do the same thing, and they'll be there when he's ready to move it back to the mainspace. - BillCJ 05:56, 8 August 2007 (UTC)

KAL 007 Request

Hutcher, very good edits to KAL 007! I have a request if you could do it. I noticed that there are two edits that have been posted that have requests for citations. I have the citations but am blocked. Would you post these citations for me? The first is in the time line of attack section: 18:26:08 GMT - Captain Chun yells, "Retard throttles." First Officer Son responds, "Engines normal, sir." Indicating that Maj. Osipovich's heat seeking missile did not destroy 1 of the 4 engines. Son will again report engines normal at 18:26:45[citation needed]

The second is in the crash scene section: The 1991 Izvestia series of interviews with the civilian divers who had visited KAL 007 at the bottom starting 7 days from the shootdown reported in amazement that out of the 269 passengers and crew, they found no more than 10 small body parts and one partial torso.[citation needed]

The citation is - Izvestiya, May 28, 1991, p. 8.

For this second edit, there is need for a slight correction - it should read - ..."10 encouters with the remains of Boeing passengers and one partial torso."

I've learned to be careful about using your site as a reference - there are many gatekeepers at work on Wikipedia. Thankfully, there is plenty of evidence in many other places. I'm fascinated (not in a positive way) by the possibility that Rep. McDonald has been imprisoned for the past 25 years. Are you being blocked because of your work on this article? Pleased to meet you too, Hutcher. Yes, I'm blocked because of my work on the KAL 007 article. Re: Larry McDonald - I believe that he was alive through the mid 90's. He may still be alive. By the way, I see that you have done work on the wiki Larry McDonald article. On the conservapedia article on KAL 007 http://www.conservapedia.com/Korean_Airlines_Flight_007 , to which I have heavily contributed, I put a link to an article on Larry McDonald which as yet has nothing but the name. Here it is http://www.conservapedia.com/Larry_P._McDonald . I had hoped that people would contribute to it as there are many, according to the stats of my website, who come to KAL 007 interest through interest in Larry McDonald. Perhaps, you could do for Larry on conservapedia what you've don for him on wikipedia. That's scary ... about McDonald and the blocking. I'm a fan of Alex Jones of http://www.prisonplanet.com and that's where I learned of McDonald's appearance on Crossfire just prior to his disappearance. I was amazed at what he revealed and found it too cute that he went missing just a couple months after bad-mouthing the Rockefellers on national TV. I'll take a peek at those other articles ... I unfortunately have alot of articles on the go ... my amateur research takes me in many different directions.

O.K., Hutcher. Have thought some. Very possible there was a real connection with the Gehlen network either by direct affiliation and belonging, by conspiracy - breathing together in close consort, or by collusion. The last would certainly be opperative. Wached McDonald on video with Buchanan and Bradly. They tried to pin him down to conspiracy - Bradly did, at least. McDonald did a good job but he could have developed the working of "collusion" to show how these things really work. What's the end-game? I mean something funny is going on ... there were clearly survivors otherwise the Russians would have handed over the remains to calm tensions and then stand by their violation of airspace story. So now they have the survivors but why not do what the Chinese did with their US spy-plane shootdown - interrogate them and potentially barter them for money/concessions/whatever? I guess they didn't want to be seen holding a US congressman and didn't want him released so they sacrificed the entire group.
Where to from here, Bert? I don't see the Russians or Americans reopening this can of worms. It's sounds crazy and impossible but to bust this case open again we almost need a survivor or concrete proof of a survivor inside Russia. Hutcher (talk) 20:40, 2 March 2008 (UTC)

JFK

I have no idea what you are talking about. I've never made the claim that the movie wasn't true to those books. In fact, JFK is one of my all time favorite movies. However, me pointing out that the narrative of the movie stretches some facts, misreads others, and makes up some is not a campaign against the movie or against assassination related articles. I am not going to list everything in that movie that has been debunked but it is easily available on the Internet and even here on Wikipedia. Shoot Wrestling earlier definition

I'm the same person as 90.240.49.25 who did the revision to the Shoot wrestling article of 15:51, 23 August 2009 in which I incorportated the earlier use of the term Shoot Wrestling in the pro wrestling business in reference to catch wrestling as a legit sport.

It should be pointed out that the term "Shoot Wrestling" would have been confined in the UK to the Professional Wrestling business - your wording "Prior to the emergence of the current sport of Shoot wrestling the term was commonly used in the UK as a synonym for the legitimate sport of catch wrestling." seems to imply widespread mainstream use of the term in the UK!

Had this indeed been the case, kayfabe for British Wrestling would have been seriously undermined, as Kayfabe anywhere in the world would be if the marks found out what a "shoot" was.) As it was, the term "Shoot wrestling" was largely an insider term. Catch wrestling enthusiasts not connected to the pro wrestling business would have used such terms as "catch as catch can", "Lancashire wrestling" or most likely just plain wrestling to refer to the legit sport.

Furthermore, there are documented examples of this use of the term in the US pro wrestling business also. For example, in his autobiography [[To Be The Man], Ric Flair recalls a 1993 incident where wrestler-turned WCW executive Bill Watts at the company offices putting an armlock on colleague Bill Shaw and declaring "Shaw think's he's pretty tough. He used to wrestle in high school. Let's see if he knows how to shoot!" (To Be the Man, Ric Flair with Keith Elliot Greenberg, page 313 of WWE books 2004 paperback edition)

I personally feel that my original wording, "Prior to the emergence of the current sport of Shoot wrestling, the term was commonly used in the professional wrestling business, particularly in the UK, as a synonym for catch wrestling as a legitimate sport." was satifactory and was tempted to simply revert to it, however I thought it fair to cooperate/consult with yourself on this, rather than risk a revert-war, not least considering other good work you have done on the page. I look forward to your response on here.

Disambiguation page cleanup

Thanks for your work cleaning up disambiguation pages. It'd be great if you read MOS:DAB closely, there are a number of things you're doing that vary from the Manual of Style. I'd appreciate it if you could check back over dab pages you've cleaned up and have another go. Thanks! Josh Parris 16:39, 4 February 2010 (UTC)

The glaring problem is Wikipedia:Manual of Style (disambiguation pages)#Individual entries - Each bulleted entry should have exactly one navigable (blue) link to efficiently guide users to the most relevant article for each use of the ambiguous term. There are a number of reasons to do this; dab pages aren't information pages, they're for navigation; it reduces the cognitive load on the reader - a column of blue links to scan doesn't take too much thinking, but if the blue links are all over the place and merely tangentially related, their brain will melt; and automatic disambiguation tools pick from the list of links presented, so links on the page that aren't variations of the ambiguous term make working with those tools so much harder. I emphasize the last point because I use and develop these tools, so it causes me grief.
Anyways, that's a fairly fundamental one of the style rules, so if you're missing that one there's a good chance you're missing some of the subtler ones too. We've got over 170K dab pages, so it's just by chance that I stumbled across your activities; we certainly need more people keeping dab pages in good shape, but good shape is pretty much dictated by MOS:DAB and common sense. Eyeballing it, yes (except for the one line ending it a punctuation character - Texas), and normally that's as far as I take it - none of the Goliaths are people with births/deaths, so that part of MOSDAB doesn't apply, there's one link per line, it's generally at the beginning of the line, so yeah, that looks fine (diffs might show up something different). It's funny how one acquires a very limited set of rules as guidelines as to everything being fine - if either of a couple of easy-to-break and easy-to-spot rules are violated, something's fishy, otherwise move right along. Having finally had a pretty close look, you did good. You removed Goliath (manuscript) which is currently redlinked, but pages link to the redlink so it gets to stay; note that the bluelinked item on that line (Fechtbuch) does link to it/mention it; if it didn't, something that did ought to be used in its place or mention inserted into the bluelinked article for Goliath (manuscript). Hometowns

I noticed that you removed numerous hometowns from the lead paragraphs in people's articles per MOS:BIO#Opening_paragraph. You've just been deleting the content. Please make sure that it exists later in the article. I would appreciate if you would go through the articles that you recently did and make sure it's in the text. I've heard that you were right - hometowns shouldn't be in the lead by the birthdate. I'm just asking that when you enforce the MOS that you don't just delete it without making sure that it appears at the beginning of the first paragraph in the body of the article. Varzesh-e Pahlavani

  • There was nothing improper about removing the first image. I didn't like the other editors taste. That simple. In all fairness, neither image should be the "main" image for the article. The first picture being historical, but having little bearing on the modern world. In a historical section maybe, but not as the main image. I would argue that most modern practitioners of the art would find the image just as funny and laughable as would a modern boxer looking at an image from the 1890's. A modern image needs to be used, showing modern participants in a modern setting. This is neither a dead sport or art, and it should not be presented as such. As for the second image, I agree. It is a single private organization, and that image should probably not be used, but at that time it was all I had to go with. If you can help in finding some modern stuff, it would be appreciated. Modified stock car racing?

What is that - never heard of it? I might have a done little research in racing. You really should propose renaming major articles instead of just doing a controversial move without discussion. The sources that you cited were very weak - one was a blog and the other was a passing mention (not not very reliable). Modifieds are listed in the open wheel racing article since they don't have fenders on the front (a variation on half the car). I wish I would have had an opportunity to make my case. a) I heard the term on NASCAR RaceDay - a television show on Speed hosted by Darrell Waltrip
b) If you haven't heard of this that does not mean the term hasn't been used at least since 1933? I appreciate your knowledge regarding racing but I'm sure that you are not infallible.
c) Blog? I cited a website that just happened to offer a reprint of the magazine named Modern Mechanix published by Fawcett Publications. The published magazine itself is a "reliable, published sources" WP:RS.
d) Open wheel? Modified means "to make minor changes" [1] as in modifying a stock car to have a more powerful engine and no fenders. Where do you think the nickname "Modifed" came from? The sport did not begin it's history being referred to by an adjective.
I'm sorry, but your case is not compelling. Please do more research yourself before coming onto my talk page to insult me.

I think the heraldic info pertaining to a particular family belongs in a family template, rather than the name template because names can be used by numerous different families. Knights of Columbus banner vs logo in infobox

Can I ask why you changed the logo in the infobox to a picture of the fraternal banner? It doesn't seem to me that the fraternal banner is really a well-known symbol of the organization; wouldn't it have been better to leave the logo in the infobox and maybe use the image of the banner elsewhere in the article? umrguy42 03:54, 27 August 2010 (UTC)

Section headers containing links

I noticed your edit summary for this edit. Just a heads-up, the software was fixed some time ago, so there's no problem now. See Help:Section#Section linking, second bullet point under 'Notes'. I personally prefer not to have links in section headers if possible, but there's no longer anything in MOS to back my preference. See if this link works for you: User:RexxS/Sandbox#Demo for Help:Section Linking. It does for me. As I said, the mediawiki software sorted out the problem some time ago, and that section at Wikipedia:Manual of Style (accessibility)#Links is seriously out of date regarding the ability to use such headings as anchors. It's right about JAWS prior to version 7.1 though (but it's worth noting that JAWS 7.1 was released in June 2006, and JAWS is currently at version 12). --RexxS (talk) 03:46, 12 December 2010 (UTC)

I noticed you cleaned up the awful sports mess information on that page a while back. You might want to have a look at >This again. What a suprise. Unfortunately, this page constantly attracts vandalism and edits from newcomers who are either not informed about the MoS or have no interest in caring anyway. I suggest a more specific messeage in the edit box like an imperative, "Do not add any sports-related information to this page. Please refer to MoS-DAB." Something along those lines. Please read Category:Category needed, which explains the policies and practices of the categorization project in further depth. Also, please read the Non-article and maintenance categories subsection of WP:CAT, which is quite explicit that stub categories are project-oriented, not content-oriented, in nature. And incidentally, there's no requirement that a person reply on their own talk page, rather than on yours — either approach is perfectly acceptable, and neither one is wrong.
