Nicholas Tse

I was wondering if you were aware if there was an established convention on the order of names for Chinese people in WP? There has been a tug of war going on at the above, with editors changing it from Nicholas Tse Ting-fung to Nicholas Ting-fung Tse and back again. I'm getting rather sick of it. Not sure if there's any consensus on WP for that, but the common convention in real life in HK is (if they're going to write their names in that form at all) to do "Nicholas Tse Ting Fung". Hey, look out for the Han Chinese article will you. Anonymous users are keep reverting back the article to version that contains statements of dubious origin (Chinese language article and article from political sources). The anonymous users comments in the talk page are pretty incoherent as well (with name callings and then some). Consensus change on ROC/TW

I wanted to let you know that apparently there has been a change in the Wikipedia consensus on the use of "Republic of China (Taiwan)". If you recall (or not) from the discussion 2 years ago, the combination use can be applied for "origin". I'm not sure when it happened, but "origin" is now over on the "Taiwan" column, where "birthplace" was and is. I am just asking this question because, i hear that flushing, queens is a mixture of Chinese, Koreans and Japanese people living in the area having there own communities in flushing. I think this removal was based on a misunderstanding: If I understand the procedure correctly, then it's not for every speech, but only for such special events as state of the Union Addresses and presidential inaugurations. The two addresses before the Joint Session of Congress were special; the media discussed that these amounted to state of the union addresses. Object to your reversion of my update to University Grants Committee

I do not understand why you reverted my update to University Grants Committee. The (British) University Grants Committee was founded in 1918 and existed for 80 years - it was a key institution in UK higher education for all that time and clearly deserves an article in its own right, as a historical record. The reason you give for reverting is incorrect. It is not now the Universities Funding Council - that was a short-lived body. The functions of the UGC are now taken on by HEFCE, SHEFC etc. as mentioned in the article, but as said above the UGC deserves its own article, not as a footnote to HEFCE. With various University Grants Committees/Commissions around the world it makes no sense for the main UGC article to default to the Hong Kong UGC - this should properly be University Grants Committe (Hong Kong) in the style of existing page titles, e.g. University Grants Commission (Bangladesh)

Secondly, why did you not refer to the talk pages before doing this reversion, or join in with the discussion? It was suggested by another user a month ago (21 August) that the page should refer to the original UK UGC, not the Hong Kong one. You could have contributed to this discussion. Edits on Tung Chee Hwa and Chris Patten

Hi, I noticed you undo my edits on succession boxes for Tung Chee Hwa and Chris Patten. I would like to hear your reasons for doing so. I was trying to establish a connection for the switch in government figurehead during the Transfer of sovereignty of Hong Kong. The article at its current state is rather confusing, the figurehead position did not really get abolished nor created in 1997. It was more of a change in title due to a change in government. Here's an example I pulled from Template:S-start page.

What I wanted to point out with the French box is that the intended way to represent a change in sovereignty or government in Wikipedia. The succession box I put in did not state those two are the same thing, it merely mentioned who was the head of the Hong Kong government before and after 1997. Somebody is still in charge of Hong Kong before 30 June 2009 and after 1 July 2009, that person still has the same power, but only with a different title. That's what my edited in the succession boxes tried to point out. Here's a quote from the Chief Executive of Hong Kong article.

The Chief Executive of Hong Kong (traditional Chinese: 香港行政長官) is the head of the government of Hong Kong and the principal representative of Hong Kong. The position was created to replace the Governor of Hong Kong, who was the head of the Hong Kong government during British rule.

The current state of the succession box in Tung Chee Hwa and Chris Patten's article does not include any of detail of what happened to the person in charge of Hong Kong before nor who got the head person after the takeover. It's almost as suggesting Hong Kong went into a state of Anarchy for a period of time with nobody in charge. Tavatar (talk) 15:12, 10 October 2009 (UTC)

That's a good point. But the succession box is not for Head of Government of Hong Kong. The succession box on the Chris Patten article is for Governor of Hong Kong, and the one for the Tung Chee Hwa article is for the Chief Executive of Hong Kong. One is the head of government of Hong Kong for UK, the other one is the head of government of Hong Kong for China, I failed to see how they are completely two completely different things as you stated. Succession boxes are used to show the person before and after him/her in function he/her was in charge of. WP:SBS explains the function more in detail. In this case, the name Governor of Hong Kong and Chief Executive of Hong Kong are merely titles under a different government, the real function is head of the government of Hong Kong. This fits in the category of offices tracked by succession boxes. It would be fair to say Tung Chee Hwa succeed Chris Patten, Governor of Hong Kong's function as head of Government of Hong Kong under the title Chief Executive of Hong Kong. Hi, since you're active on Chinese article and can understand korean, I really need help at two clothing article. It's a well known fact that Tang Dynasty's clothing have been influenced by Central Asians (due to Tang's expansion in the area) but those are clothings are like these [3]+ [4]+ [5]. User Cydevil3 use Korean sources to state that Banbi and Beizi are "adopt" from central asian, and both of these clothings aren't visible in Central Asian clothings. I believe he is using Foreign influences during Tang Dynasty to generalize that all of Tang's clothing are adopt from there. He provided Korean sources I can't read or having the full version of it available.
