Assassination infoboxes[edit]

Hello, Hellmann775. Your contributions so far seem to be to Assassination Infoboxes. You're probably already aware that giving a fixed time interval between assassinations and "present" day doesn't work - or at least, can only work for a year at most, so it's best omitted.

I've deleted some of what you've added to the Assassination Infobox at Caligula. The picture was hopelessly inaccurate, showing pretorians in full regular armour, which they never wore in the City unless toga-covered. The plotters and perpetrators are disputed by some sources. I can see that some articles are specifically about particular assassinations, but I don't think Caligula's is among them. I've invited discussion of this on the article talk-page. Hello Haploidavey, thank you for fixing my error of my infoxbox. I have discussed my thoughts on the infobox and whether it should be removed or not. I'm welcome to discuss it further about whether to remove the infobox or not. Hellmann775 (talk) 14:56, 23 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Hi again, Hellmann, and thanks for your timely response. The Assassination template is one I've not encountered before, but I guess it's useful when assassination is central to the subject (named as famous victims, or also - perhaps - as famous perpetrators. As I said at Talk:Caligula, I don't think anything qualifies Caligula for inclusion - too many uncertainties. Infoboxes are an excellent way to offer certain kinds of information (scientific especially) but they're seldom suitable as a summary for most humanities articles, at least not in any meaningful sense; might as well just read the intro (!) or follow the Categories at end of page.
Apart from that, more than a single infobox close to the introduction makes for difficult reading of text and adjacent images, while infoboxes halfway through articles are unexpected, distracting and therefore hinder navigation. Unless someone at the Caligula article objects over the next 24 hours, I'll remove the infobox there. Regards, Haploidavey (talk) 15:57, 23 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]
