Welcome![edit]

Hello, Harboursound2021, and welcome to Wikipedia! Thank you for your contributions.

I noticed that one of the first articles you edited was The Wind & the Reckoning, which appears to be dealing with a topic with which you may have a conflict of interest. In other words, you may find it difficult to write about that topic in a neutral and objective way, because you are, work for, or represent, the subject of that article. Your recent contributions may have already been undone for this very reason.

To reduce the chances of your contributions being undone, you might like to draft your revised article before submission, and then ask me or another editor to proofread it. See our help page on userspace drafts for more details. If the page you created has already been deleted from Wikipedia, but you want to save the content from it to use for that draft, don't hesitate to ask anyone from this list and they will copy it to your user page.

One rule we do have in connection with conflicts of interest is that accounts used by more than one person will unfortunately be blocked from editing. Wikipedia generally does not allow editors to have usernames which imply that the account belongs to a company or corporation. If you have a username like this, you should request a change of username or create a new account. (A name that identifies the user as an individual within a given organization may be OK.)

In addition, if you receive, or expect to receive, compensation for any contribution you make, you must disclose your employer, client, and affiliation to comply with our terms of use and our policy on paid editing.

Here are some pages that you might find helpful:

I hope you enjoy editing here and being a Wikipedian! Please sign your messages on talk pages using four tildes (~~~~); this will automatically insert your username and the date. If you need help, check out Wikipedia:Questions, ask me on my talk page, or ask your question on this page and then place {{Help me}} before the question. Again, welcome! Help me[edit]

Dear @Bovineboy2008:, thank you for the information and the welcome message. I have no experience with Wikipedia so I'm not sure if I'm responding to you in the correct way or if you'll see this message.

You are correct that I am associated with the film The Wind and the Reckoning. There are details that I can provide about the film to ensure that the wikipedia page is accurate, and I do appreciate that I should no be the editor if that appears to be a conflict of interest.

How is it that I can ensure that the accurate information about this film is being reported on Wikipedia? For example, the film is written by John Fusco and is based on the actual journal writings of Pi'ilani, the wife of Ko'olau, who chronicled their experience and published her writings in the native Hawaiian language in 1908. Her writings were only translated into English in 2001 by the Kauai Historical Society. So it is not correct that the film or the screenplay is based on a Jack London novel.

All of the other information I tried to update can be found on IMDB. If there is a way to get the information corrected it would be appreciated. Thanks again for educating me on the process with your welcome note. Harboursound2021 (talk) 19:43, 4 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Hi @Harboursound2021:! I'm glad you have an interest in Wikipedia and hope you find it a worthy use of your time. There are few things you have to keep in mind while editing.
One of the key pillars to Wikipedia is verifiability. There is a lot wrapped up into this word, but a major aspect is that everything on Wikipedia is something should be able to be verified, and this usually done with reliable sources. Meaning, if something is not common knowledge (like "China is a country in Asia"), it should be supplemented with some sort of citation where a reader could verify the information. We do not publish original research or original content on Wikipedia, which can be frustrating when there is published content that is known to be wrong to those close to the topic.
What I would recommend you do to make these modifications is to find a published source verifying each claim. Unfortunately, IMDb cannot be used as a majority of that content is user submitted and thus cannot be verified. Usually, we need something from a reputable magazine (eg Variety), newspaper (eg The New York Times), or website (eg Deadline Hollywood). These are all major sources that cover major projects, but local versions (local magazine/newspapers) would be perfectly suitable. Once you find a source, then you can add a citation using the reference tag. See WP:CS for a how-to guide for that process.
Lastly, be cautious of your conflict of interest. If you disagree with an edit or if you find your edits being reverted, go to the article's talk page (or the editor's talk page) to begin a discussion. My concern with your edits was partially due to fact that it was poorly sourced, but also the fact that it was not written in a manner to present a neutral point-of-view - it had a commercial tone which read like an advertisement. Be sure you are not using Wikipedia as an advertising method, that is not its purpose.
Let me know if you have any questions or need any help! BOVINEBOY2008 14:04, 5 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]
