Speedy deletion nomination of Marseilles Mill Ruins[edit]

A tag has been placed on Marseilles Mill Ruins requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G12 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be a clear copyright infringement. Nomination of Shippingsport Bridge for deletion[edit]

Bridge[edit]

Sorry, it appears you misread or misunderstood what I wrote. I didn't indicate that the bridge was fake (never even crossed my mind, actually.) I said it didn't appear to be notable. Nothing personal, just didn't seem wiki-worthy. But, keep in mind, I don't make the final decision or anything. Please feel free to add on the Talk page why you feel it should be included. I have no problem with keeping the page if you can show it's notable (there certainly are other, notable bridges w/ Wiki pages.) If it's not just a regular, ol' bridge, please indicate what makes it notable so we can have reason to keep the page.JoelWhy (talk) 01:27, 27 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

  • Sorry, it's not enough to say that you own the site the material is copied from. For one thing, we have no way to be sure that someone on the end of a wire is who he says he is; for another, release to Wikipedia involves much more than just permission to reproduce - in posting to Wikipedia, you are giving permission to any reader to copy, modify and use for any purpose including commercial, and it is essential that the actual copyright owner understands and agrees to this. Therefore the release procedure explained at WP:Donating copyrighted materials (if you own the copyright yourself) or WP:Requesting copyright permission (if someone else does) must be followed. Copyvios[edit]

Most of the text at johnweeks.com is suitable for Wikipedia but if you use it please do the following:

  • at johnweeks.com, change the "all rights reserved" notice to one compatible with the GFDL/CC
  • on Wikipedia, point out that the text is licensed using: a talk page message, an HTML comment (<!--) and an edit summary
  • provide {{coord}}s !

An edit summary before someone deletes this, i own johnweeks.com, the site of source is utterly pointless. We need proof that you own johnweeks.com. in order to avoid deleting the articles, I have been stubbifying those I have seen. The previous versions remain in the edit history, and can be restored when you have satisfied the copyright requirements. (anything deleted can be restored when you have theccopyright straightened out--ask RHaworth or John or me). RHaworth's advice is exactly what you ought to do; it is by far the easiest way to deal with the situation. Please note that when he said, "most of the text" , that means including information about the bridges, not the opinion about the dubious plans of CSX and similar polemical comments--it will be easier for you to remove them than for others. (material on the general history of the railroads concerned should be added to their own articles) And since you have undoubtedly sources for all the material on your site, please do add them to the articles, just as he advised. Your site has only your own authority, and we need something beyond that that is published. JohnCD has given you the same advice as RHaworth and I have.

The material you have is excellent--it will help the users of the encyclopedia and deserves wide distribution. Please do not compromise it. DGG ( talk ) 18:14, 28 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Update regarding copyright concern[edit]

Since we do not yet have verification of permission by the processes set out above and sufficient time has passed since the placement of the notice, the content has been deleted for copyright concerns. This deletion is not necessarily permanent. If you have already sent a letter to the Wikimedia Foundation permitting re-use under the Creative Commons Attribution/Share-Alike License (CC-BY-SA) and GNU Free Documentation License (GFDL) (if you are not the copyright holder or have co-authored the material, release under CC-BY-SA-compatible license alone is sufficient), the article will be restored when that letter is received and processed by the Wikimedia Communications committee. Likewise, if you have not yet sent a letter, you still may (or resend it, if you believe your original may have been lost), and the article will be restored when that letter is received and processed.

As Wikipedia does not require proof of identity on account creation, it is essential that we receive external proof of authorization in order to ensure that we remain compliant with US Copyright law. It is also essential that we verify that copyright holders understand the extent of the release they are authorizing, in that our licenses permit modification and reuse in any forum, even commercial publication, as long as authorship credit is maintained and future copies are compatibly licensed.
