Wikipedia and copyright[edit]

Control copyright icon Hello H Kaur When The Sky Was No Longer Blue, and welcome to Wikipedia. Your additions to User:H Kaur When The Sky Was No Longer Blue have been removed in whole or in part, as they appear to have added copyrighted content without evidence that the source material is in the public domain or has been released by its owner or legal agent under a suitably-free and compatible copyright license. (To request such a release, see Wikipedia:Requesting copyright permission.) While we appreciate your contributions to Wikipedia, there are certain things you must keep in mind about using information from sources to avoid copyright and plagiarism issues.

  • You can only copy/translate a small amount of a source, and you must mark what you take as a direct quotation with double quotation marks (") and cite the source using an inline citation. You can read about this at Wikipedia:Non-free content in the sections on "text". See also Help:Referencing for beginners, for how to cite sources here.
  • Aside from limited quotation, you must put all information in your own words and structure, in proper paraphrase. Following the source's words too closely can create copyright problems, so it is not permitted here; see Wikipedia:Close paraphrasing. Even when using your own words, you are still, however, asked to cite your sources to verify the information and to demonstrate that the content is not original research.
  • If you own the copyright to the source you want to copy or are a legally designated agent, you may be able to license that text so that we can publish it here. Understand, though, that unlike many other sites, where a person can license their content for use there and retain non-free ownership, that is not possible at Wikipedia. Rather, the release of content must be irrevocable, to the world, into the public domain (PD) or under a suitably-free and compatible copyright license. Such a release must be done in a verifiable manner, so that the authority of the person purporting to release the copyright is evidenced. See Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials.
  • Also note that Wikipedia articles may not be copied or translated without attribution. If you want to copy or translate from another Wikipedia project or article, you must follow the copyright attribution steps in Wikipedia:Translation#How to translate. See also Wikipedia:Copying within Wikipedia.

It's very important that contributors understand and follow these practices, as policy requires that people who persistently do not must be blocked from editing. If you have any questions about this, you are welcome to leave me a message on my talk page. Thank you. ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 01:49, 15 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]

If the external website or image belongs to you, and you want to allow Wikipedia to use the text or image — which means allowing other people to use it for any reason — then you must verify that externally by one of the processes explained at Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials. The same holds if you are not the owner but have their permission. If you are not the owner and do not have permission, see Wikipedia:Requesting copyright permission for how you may obtain it. You might want to look at Wikipedia's copyright policy for more details, or ask a question here.

Stop doing this. Wikipedia cannot host copyrighted material, and you cannot promote the book or copy reviews or PR blurbs. Meters (talk) 02:05, 15 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Contested deletion[edit]

This page should not be speedily deleted because there has been no copyright infringement. I am the debut author of 'When The Sky Was No Longer Blue.' The summary that I pasted on the page was the summary I had written for FriesenPress. Please do let me know why the page was deleted. Thank you for your time. — Preceding unsigned comment added by H Kaur When The Sky Was No Longer Blue (talkcontribs) 02:15, September 15, 2020 (UTC)

The content was copied from the FriesenPress web site https://books.friesenpress.com/store/title/119734000130516123/H.-Kaur-When-The-Sky-Was-No-Longer-Blue, which is marked as being copyrighted © 2020 FriesenPress, Inc. All rights reserved, and the material is promotional. Wikipedia is not here to promote you or your book. The first deletion was on the grounds of copyright violation, and the second was was for misuse of Wikipedia as a web host.
Please read WP:COI. Meters (talk) 02:23, 15 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Please don't submit a virtually empty draft for review. I have removed your review request since the draft consists of nothing but a link to the PR publicity page (which you claim to have written) for your self-published book. This has zero chance of being accepted as is. It is unlikely a self-published book will be notable, but even if it is, as the author you should not write the article.Meters (talk) 04:46, 15 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]
