Suggestion[edit]

Hi, i am a big fan of your work and enjoy reading about Southeast Asian history. If you are interested and have the time, you could consider creating an article on the Ramalan Jayabaya. There is currently no article on that on the en Wikipedia. Unfortunately my heavy RL workload and the greater priority Wikipedia endeavors leave me with no time to do so. However if you would do so, then i would be glad to read about this topic. Joyson Prabhu Holla at me! 10:16, 27 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Well, Google books usually comes very handy when it comes to research. If you ever plan on promoting an Indonesian history or Indonesian culture related articles to GA/FA status, i would be glad to help by c/e and peer review. Cheers! Joyson Prabhu Holla at me! 06:54, 28 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Re: Malay ethnic[edit]

Well, I'm new to Wikipedia and the way everything works. I didm't know exactly how to "reply" since everything here is editing based.

But okay, here is my reply.

Think is going to be some BS racial message? Think again. Those articles you gave me weren't accurately researched. I've seen those articles.

Okay, I see you wanna fight me on this? Let's get it on. Here is a quote, from my "World Geography Today" book, page 687 on Island Southeast Asia, "The Philippines is the region's most homogenous region. The word homogenous means "of the same". More than 95% of the country's population are ethnic Malays."

So apparently, you think I'm a some old joe out there, wanting to be a typical Malay wannabe. Listen up, I know Filipinos have unfortunately lost traces with their Malay roots. Why? Because the rather oppressive Spanish and later the brutally oppressive Japanese government basically converted the ENTIRE country when the Philippines became part of the Spanish Empire during Imperialism and Japanese Empire in World War II. Malays in the Philippines were persecuted and KILLED!

As I said, I am a LINGUIST; I KNOW Malay and Tagalog are only related. Tagalog isn't even part of the Malay family yet only intelligable with Malay, it only belongs in the same family as Malay. I KNOW Filipinos don't speak Malay. And I NEVER posted a "Bahasa Filipino" anywhere in there....did I? No I didn't.

You really think Old Tagalog is anything like the fake "Filipino language" they bark out in Manila? You are dead wrong. The real Tagalog was so much closer to Malay, like Old English (Anglo-Saxon) was to German. We even had our own script, Baybayin script which was related to the scripts that the ancient Malays used.

Listen up here, I have to admit I USED to be wannabes, many times Filipinos do stereotypically become wannabes. There are Filipinos who think they are "half Hispanic" just because their parents tought them Spanish as a second language. There are even Arab-wannabe Filipinos. Oh, and this one, Filipinos wanting to be called Pacific Islanders, I used to be one of those that was simply due to poor research and no knowledge at all of the Austronesian people and I've passed that point of my life. Filipinos being ethnic Malays is a legit argument.

As I mentioned again, Filipinos may not follow all the strict charecteristics of an average Malay as they go, speaking a Malay language or a Malay creole, following Islam, following the Malay-Arabic naming systems, building kampongs and all that. But as I ALREADY mentioned, what could we do? The Dutch and British didn't really care about "converting" Malays to Christianity or speaking their language. The Dutch and British didn't burn your books like the Spanish and Japanese did to ours. So no duh, the Malays in Malaysia, Indonesia and Brunei were able to continue living their ways, speaking their own language under Dutch and British rule. The Malays in the Philippines were OPPRESSED by the Spanish government and later in World War II, brutally opressed and hunted down by the Japanese government! They burned our books and our records. When the Spanish handed the Philippines over to the United States that minute of course we wanted to recover our Malay roots. But when the Japanese invaded, guess what? The next minute, the ony thing any Filipino simply wanted to do was to SURVIVE. But the blood DOES NOT change, Filipinos are ethnic Malays with a sprinkle of Chinese, Spanish and puny little traces of Arabic. Ever seen the original Filipinos? The ones, when they were UNTOUCHED by the Spanish and the Japanese?

Another reason why Filipinos DON'T speak Malay and why there is no such thing as a "Bahasa Filipina" or anything, is because during the 1970s, instead of recovering our roots, the Filipino government decided to start an anti-Hispanic movement instead.

How about the Muslim population and the minority of Indonsians in Mindanao? Is that glamarous enough for ya? They are UNTOUCHED by Spanish or Japanese blood, so they must be, look at this, ETHNIC MALAYS! BTW....only 60% of Malaysia's population are ethnic Malays. The other 20%? INDIANS, Indians WANTING to be called ethnic Malays. I don't hear them getting "excluded".

This world is full of idiots. Despite the vulgarity of this post, well I'm in school right now so my time is limited. I'll get back once I get home.

It's my word against a newspaper editor. It's on. PacificWarrior101 (talk) 01:14, 29 January 2012 (UTC)PacificWarrior101[reply]

alright....i quit simply because I'm sick of you reverting my PROVEN changes.[edit]

Okay fine....you win. Simply because I'm sick. I never said Ethnic Malays and Malay race were same thing.

and I gave you PROOF...that Filipinos were Ethnic Malays not just Austronesians but SPECIFICALLY ethnic Malays. i gave a quote from my World Geography book saying that Filipinos WERE ethnic Malays and i didn't believe it at the time.

i gave a website defining Filipinos as CHRISTIAN MALAYS and the other 9% being MUSLIM MALAYS. you refuse to accept it.

if a Hispanic moved somwhere, and stopped speaking Spanish and stopped following the Roman Catholic religion because of an oppresive government, they'd still be HISPANIC.

same story with Filipinos. whether you believe it or not.... gave ya proof. we were ethnic Malays before Spain and Japan got here, and we are STILL ethnic Malays now, with a sprinkle of Chinese and Spanish especially for those living in Luzon...the ones in Mindanao are UNTOUCHED by Spanish.

go ahead....revert all my changes. ill keep disproving and disproving you. doesn't make you right in any way PacificWarrior101 (talk) 01:18, 3 February 2012 (UTC)PacificWarrior101[reply]

So if you are correct (note my scepticism), what about all the hundreds more sources that say you are wrong? And if ethnic Malays = Filipinos, what are the ethnic group that is currently defined as Ethnic Malays? And if Filipinos are Ethnic Malays BUT this is not the same as Malay Race, what then is the difference between Malay Race and Ethnic Malays? Riau Malay[edit]

Yes, Indonesian is based on "Riau Malay", but that has nothing to do with Riau dialect. Riau Malay is not the dialect of Riau, but the dialect of Malacca. It's called "Riau Malay" because the Malacca court moved to Riau—but they took Classical (Malacca) Malay with them, they didn't adopt the Riau vernacular as their language. — kwami (talk) 06:51, 1 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Politionele acties = dutch military aggression?[edit]

Selamat malam, pak

A question of Indonesian terminology for you - is it correct that what the Dutch refer to as the Politionele acties, Indonesians refer to as Dutch Military Aggression (Agresi Militer Belanda)? An editor at Politionele acties disputes this and has removed it. (he's citing Indonesian wikipedia. lol) He has also removed mention that the actions/aggressions were against the Indonesian Republic "as it wasn't recognised til 1949"? That's certainly bs as the DUtch recognised the RI in 1946 at the Linggadjati Agreement (albeit only as having de facto sovereignty over Sumatra, Java, and Madura). Would be great if you could help clarify. cheers --Merbabu (talk) 11:37, 15 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Kuih to Kue[edit]

I've recently noticed that you have moved the content previously at Kuih to Kue by copying instead of doing an actual Move. While your contributions to the article is great, what you have effectively done through this copying move is to remove all the history of contribution to that article. With the fact that wikipedia is based on attribution, this act is not too nice. Furthermore, when doing such a move it is typically good form to advise on the move on the talk page. To remedy this, what I am want to do is:

  1. Revert the changes at Kuih to [1]
  2. Update all you changes you have made to the copy at Kue into the reverted Kuih article. (or you can do so to record yourself as the editor)
  3. Move the reverted and updated Kuih article to Kue.

Such links are almost always unintended, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of "Did you mean..." article titles. Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.

Four things[edit]

  • Do you know how to archive your talk page? It is getting long
  • Traditions of Indonesia - does not look like an encyclopedic article - if you are expanding the article - try hangon tag, otherwise all those headings with no text are going to get deleted (are you copying from WP id?)
  • Inggeris... wah the english in the Traditions article is not good - I know my Indonesian is getting bad with lack of practice, but the english expressions are problematic.
  • I dont mean to be disparaging - but somehow you need a copy check - you need a native english speaker to check some of that stuff for you... sats 09:31, 14 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for your reply - it is appreciated. For me to find good references to support the points in the article is too difficult at the present time. I think the mix of culture/language/traditions etc of the Javanese is a confusing mix of anthropology/anecdote/cultural pride/journalistic judgement - so as to make an encyclopedia article about it quite a problem not to seem either like a grab bag or a list of things. Maybe if I have time in a month or two I might try to revisit the articles - they need attention. sats 00:06, 15 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Masjid Istiqlal possible Good Article nomination[edit]

Hello! I have recently undertaken the task of editing this article. I see you are the most prolific contributor, and so I wanted to ask you opinion on something. Do you feel this article is ready for "Good Article" status? I am deliberating whether or not to nominate this article, and, if you consider the article to be fully-prepared, will do so soon. Thanks for your assistance! QatarStarsLeague (talk) 21:43, 21 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Also, I wish to notify you I have created this article: Chile-Indonesia relations. QatarStarsLeague (talk) 22:48, 21 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks! Yes, we might want to enlist the assistance of another editor. Either someone experienced with Indonesian architecture, or mosques in general. QatarStarsLeague (talk) 15:30, 23 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]

I have nominated the article, under the Art and Architecture section. Of course, feel free to assist in the review process. I hope it is listed as a Good Article. QatarStarsLeague (talk) 15:32, 23 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]
The article's review has started. Feel free to contribute if you wish! QatarStarsLeague (talk) 15:30, 17 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Long time no speak[edit]

Somehow Nyai Loro Kidul has got some WP:MOS issues - please note main text of article should not be bold regardless of whether the 'respect' of such a figure is high or not - bit like having capital letters for emphasis. sats 15:59, 4 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]

fixed - but the article needs a lot of editing yet sats 16:14, 4 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]
mohon maaf saya meganggu dengan artikel - tetapi...

Yes a small problem is that I have lapsed/delayed/procrastinated/lost sight of/nanti-nanti/apa apa - tentang artikel di daerah riset saya dari banyak tahun yang lalu... Need to revisit many articles to check what needs improving... mudah mudahan bisa pulang ke tempat istimewa... if i make mistakes - please let me know... sats 00:38, 5 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]
