Dot Branning

Hi G, I was talking with Frickative before and we agreed that Dot Branning would probably be an easy pass at GA. As you're the main contributor, I thought I'd ask if you were planning on nominating it any time soon, or is there more work to be done? I don't think there are nearly enough EastEnders GAs, and as Dot (and maybe Nick Cotton) are up to standard, I thought I'd give a little push. AnemoneProjectors (talk) 15:17, 9 January 2010 (UTC)

Hey, well there is more work to be done. A section on the one hander, the immigrant baby etc and possibly the cancer can be extended, but if u think it'll pass already, no harm in nomming it I suppose. Nothing stopping extension after it reaches GA.GunGagdinMoan 15:38, 9 January 2010 (UTC)
Ah yes. The queue for GA is about 3 months at the moment, so if you're planning to complete it in that time, why not nominate it now? I nominated EastEnders: E20 even though it's not finished yet. AnemoneProjectors (talk) 16:02, 9 January 2010 (UTC)
OK i'll nom.GunGagdinMoan 19:11, 11 January 2010 (UTC)

Looks like this may be reviewed soon, sooner than I expected. Sorry to spring that on you. AnemoneProjectors (talk) 23:08, 19 February 2010 (UTC)

Just wanted to say I'm sorry you got shafted with the review for this. I couldn't even reply to it for a while, I was so surprised by the response. For what it's worth, I think it's obvious the review was flawed, and I think it's a flipping fantastic article. You did a great job on it :) Frickative 18:11, 25 March 2010 (UTC)

Thanks hon, bit odd that we didnt get the chance to fix things, but to be honest, perhaps another reviewer would be better! That one wanted a review after every other word! Thanks for doing the immigrant baby stuff btw, been meaning to add something on that for ages.GunGagdinMoan 23:26, 25 March 2010 (UTC)
Hi
Just to say if you nominate Dot Branning again for GA then please let me know and I'll review it for you and put it on hold if necessary. I was going to review it before but was worried about a conflict of interest with my username, but checked that out now and I should be ok to review it as I've not contributed majorly to the article. If you'd rather I didn't review it then please let me know as another GA reviewer noticed the comment on the talk page about having to wait 3 months for the review and contacted me to offer his services --5 albert square (talk) 17:12, 3 April 2010 (UTC)
Hiya 5AS, thanks for this. I'll work on the storyline section for episode refs etc, and then relist. I'd be more than happy for you to review, from seeing your work I know (and hopefully other reviewers will do too) that you are a neutral editor and will critique without bias. But if you feel you dont have the time, then equally the other reviewer will be grand. Whatever suits you best, really. But whatever happens, I appreciate your generous offer to review, because I can only imagine what an arduous process reviewing such a mammouth article would be! To be honest, I think it would probably help if a reviewer has an interest in the topic they're reviewing because they will better spot omissions than someone who knows little about the character.GunGagdinMoan 17:32, 3 April 2010 (UTC)
That's ok :) I've also asked for a friend who's a copy editor to give the article a quick copy edit, make sure that grammar, spelling etc is ok for GA. He said he was going to do it a few days ago, he's not done it yet, but not to worry. If he's not done it by the time the articles ready to be relisted for GA review I'll remind him again :). If I'm quite honest I was amazed that it didn't pass the last time as it is certainly not a candidate for a quick fail. When I nominated The Bill for GA, that was put on hold for a couple of months to get all the referencing done, when I nominated Neighbours that was on hold for 1 month! --5 albert square (talk) 17:44, 3 April 2010 (UTC)
Thanks, will be lovely to have it copyedited by some fresh eyes. The Bill article looks fab btw, I was vetu shocked to read it'd been axed after all this time! I actually think it is a good thing that it didn't pass, because Frickative has now pretty much completed the OOU issue topics that I felt should be covered, so in my mind it seems more complete now; although Dot's still around so it wont really be complete until she goes (am hoping that doesnt happen anytime soon tho!).GunGagdinMoan 17:50, 3 April 2010 (UTC)

Betty Williams (Coronation Street) GAN

Hello. I know your probably busy completing finishes to Dot Branning, but a while back I nominated Betty Williams for GA Status, I'd never really worked on the article, but I noticed you and Frickative were the main contributors. It's been reviewed and has a few issues that need sorting, I wondered if maybe you would like to help it on it's last hurdle to GA. :) RAIN the ONE (Talk) 18:55, 3 April 2010 (UTC)

Hi there, i'd be happy to help out, but it looks like Frick has it covered already. I'll add the review page to my watchlist thoigh and should further improvements be requested, I will pitch in. Shame to not include info from Betty Driver's autobiog, I had been meaning to get a cheap copy of it when Frick and I started to improve the article in 2008 (Christ, how time flies!)GunGagdinMoan 19:43, 3 April 2010 (UTC)

Courtney Mitchell image

Is the current image not from her cast card rather than a screenshot? I'm sure until today it was always the screenshot but according to the file history it wasn't. anemoneprojectors talk 01:20, 4 April 2010 (UTC)

Yeah I must've reverted to a wrong version.GunGagdinMoan 14:18, 4 April 2010 (UTC)
That's odd, I seem to have uploaded it; I cant remember doing it tbh. I just saw that the image distorted on the page yesterday and refreshing wasnt helping, so I reverted to an earlier version.GunGagdinMoan 14:22, 4 April 2010 (UTC)
Strange. There are no deleted revisions so it looks like you did upload it. I hate it when the image distorts. It's all to do with caches and purging and stuff. Purging normally works, though not always. anemoneprojectors talk 14:30, 4 April 2010 (UTC)

Reviewer rights

Hello. Your account has been granted the "reviewer" userright, allowing you to to review other users' edits on certain flagged pages. Pending changes, also known as flagged protection, will be commencing a a two-month trial at approximately 23:00, 2010 June 15 (UTC).

Reviewers can review edits made by users who are not autoconfirmed to articles placed under flagged protection. Flagged protection is applied to only a small number of articles, similarly to how semi-protection is applied but in a more controlled way for the trial.

When reviewing, edits should be accepted if they are not obvious vandalism or BLP violations, and not clearly problematic in light of the reason given for protection (see Wikipedia:Reviewing process). More detailed documentation and guidelines can be found here.

If you do not want this userright, you may ask any administrator to remove it for you at any time. Karanacs (talk) 15:32, 15 June 2010 (UTC)

Peggy image

Hi, according to the deleted revisions for the image, you first uploaded the current image on 18 December 2007, so it can't be from 2008, unless you are a proud owner of a time machine :-) Miss seeing you around here! AnemoneProjectors 13:39, 23 July 2010 (UTC)

That's odd, cos the capture came from Frank week. It's from the same scene Pat Evans' image came from. When they went on that spa trip and watched a gay wedding, just before Ricky and Diane show up. Thanks btw, I miss eing here more. I havent gone for good, just uber busy right now. hoping over the summer i'll get more time.GunGagdinMoan 15:19, 23 July 2010 (UTC)
Oh well maybe there's an error somewhere. But if you're sure, I'll go with 2008! User:Gsorby has been giving us some images taken from iPlayer, but I think yours come out better quality. Funny how some characters like Pat have only had three images whereas others like Denise have had about 30! Personally I think there's no need to change images just to be more "current", only if we can do better quality (keeping the resolution low). AnemoneProjectors 15:46, 23 July 2010 (UTC)
Yeah, I agree. I hate when I take a really good capture that gets updated a few months later just because the actor's had a fringe cut or something. Unless the character changes loads or I can better the image already there, I don't like to replace, but the lesser quality images from iplayer irk me a little cos they look fuzzy and a bit shit, so I look to replace those if the current ones are bad. I take my captures direct from TV using a screen capture tool I have on my PVR. That's why they tend to be better quality than iplayer images.GunGagdinMoan 16:28, 23 July 2010 (UTC)
Your Shirley picture was really good, I hope that doesn't get replaced. By the way I think we should try to say what episode the images came from, and we should probably try to get the rationale template used on all the images too. AnemoneProjectors 17:57, 23 July 2010 (UTC)
Good idea, I will try and keep note but I tend only to view omnibus editions these days so I may only be able to give an estimate or week.GunGagdinMoan 14:56, 24 July 2010 (UTC)
If it's from the omnibus that's ok too, you can just give the date of the omnibus :-) AnemoneProjectors 17:01, 24 July 2010 (UTC)

Images

Hey Gungadin. I've been talking to AnemoneProjectors, and he's been telling me my images are to blurry. Could you tell me how you capture yours at good quality? Thanks GSorby 16:48, 23 July 2010 (UTC) —Preceding unsigned comment added by Gsorby (talkcontribs)

Hi Gsorby. I capture mine on my Personal Video Recorder, which is a bit like skyplus but for freeview. It takes frames from pause and I can then transfer them to my PC for uplaod. They're higher quality images because they are direct from the TV, unlike iplayer which have been streamed online in much lower quality. There are ways to make images crisper though. If you download a free package from somewhere like paint.net they have options for lightening images and making them more focused. However I echo what Anemone has said, unless an image can be bettered, there's little point updating.GunGagdinMoan 17:05, 23 July 2010 (UTC)

Rollback and Autopatrolled

You now have both of these user rights cos I think you can be trusted and you do some great work reverting vandalism and creating articles and such. If you have any questions let me know! AnemoneProjectors 21:23, 11 September 2010 (UTC)

Thankyou. how do I use them? GunGagdinMoan 15:35, 12 September 2010 (UTC)
WP:ROLLBACK is for reverting vandalism; in the page history or on the last diff you just click the rollback link and it'll revert all edits by the last editor. Should only be used for blatant vandalism. I saw you revert something yesterday manually and thought it was about time you had rollback! Wikipedia:Autopatrolled just means any new pages you create won't have to be patrolled by pagr patrollers, so you don't have to do anything. AnemoneProjectors 15:49, 12 September 2010 (UTC)
Thanks, those should be useful, especially rollback.GunGagdinMoan 17:00, 13 September 2010 (UTC)

lol, Do you think it was a result of your hinting on twitter??GunGagdinMoan 00:57, 18 September 2010 (UTC)
No. It was reported by the person I asked, but after he reported it he said I almost ruined his exclusive!!! Then he said he had written it earlier in the day but had waited over a week to do so. He was only pretending to not know when I asked him. He would have run the story anyway. He was impressed with the "source" though, and he hasn't seen any pictures yet. I'm really pleased Blossom is coming back! And Billie's exit is really shocking, but looks like a great storyline that will highlight more real-life issues. AnemoneProjectors 01:19, 18 September 2010 (UTC)
Will be nice to see Blossom again for sure. Not sure how I feel about Billie being killed off. seems a waste of a Jackson!GunGagdinMoan 02:10, 18 September 2010 (UTC)

Hello Gungadin! I just wanted to ask you, do you own Tarty Doris.com? Because I noticed some of the images you uploaded are from here? Just wondering :) --GSorbyDesroid - (Contribs!) 21:06, 15 October 2010 (UTC)

(talk page stalker) They probably took Gungadin's photos from Wikipedia and uploaded them there. All Gungadin's screenshots are taken from the episodes. AnemoneProjectors 22:32, 15 October 2010 (UTC)
No but they are full screen whereas Gungadin's are cropped. --GSorbyDesroid - (Contribs!) 11:02, 16 October 2010 (UTC)
Can you show me an example? AnemoneProjectors 14:01, 16 October 2010 (UTC)
No, never heard of a this website in my life.GunGagdinMoan 15:36, 16 October 2010 (UTC)
Sure :) This is one that Gungadin uploaded: File:Chrissie_watts_ee.jpg and here is the website version of Chrissie Watts. As you can see they are exactly the same :| Just made me curious :/ --GSorbyDesroid - (Contribs!) 17:10, 16 October 2010 (UTC)
Probably a coincidence but it is the exact same scene and the same scene. I can't imagine Gungadin going by the name "Tarty Doris" lol AnemoneProjectors

lol, well I own no site called tarty doris!!! I take my own captures. JunipersLeige has the exact same still and uploaded it over that Chrissie one in widescreen format. Not so difficult when you are taking caps from episodes of the same programme! I have the same captures of stills you've uploaded, and you have uploaded captures of images I have uploaded in the past, such as Lauren Branning, but I dont really see the need to come and enquire about where you got these images from GS. Plus, to save any conversations like this in future, Walfordweb has taken tons of images I captured from EE and uses them on their site. I dont care as they are just images of EE, I dont own them :) GunGagdinMoan 17:51, 16 October 2010 (UTC)

WW are just tea leaves AnemoneProjectors 19:33, 16 October 2010 (UTC)
I actually asked Gungadin a couple of years ago if she minded me using the images she originally uploaded here for the Walford Wiki, as Wikipedia has such a huge problem with them and after they were deleted from here, all of her hard work was going to waste. If she had any objection to me using them I would have found an alternative for the Walford Wiki, so I do not appreciate being called a tea leaf. Gungadin, you're welcome to edit the Walford Wiki any time you want by the way, we'd be thrilled to have you, plus there's no stupid rules and guidelines or little Hitler admins like AnemoneProjectors. All the best. :) -Trampikey(talk)(contribs) 15:19, 18 October 2010 (UTC)
It was a joke, and certainly was not aimed directly at you. I didn't even know you had done it. AnemoneProjectors 15:24, 18 October 2010 (UTC)
Hi Trampikey, long time!!! I'd love to help with WW wiki, have tried to edit it before but was told I didnt have editing rights or something?! Plus, I am happy for WW to have any images I have taken; better they are used somewhere than not at all.
Wikipedia defiintely is a lot different from when I first started editing here with you, but i'm not sure why AneomoneProjectors is getting the blame for this from so many folk these days; It's not his fault. He still does loads for the EE project and I do think that if it wasnt for him it would have fallen into disarray by now. So I think he should be commended for all his hard work. It's a shame that you and he fell out as you used to run the project so well together, and you both did before I or anyone else who still edits EE articles showed up (although I know AP was called something different at that time). Anyway, this makes it even more of a shame that you have decided not to edit here much anymore, considering the huge amount of work you put into constructing EE articles and making them better and I think the project definitely misses your passion, but I can understand your decision.
Unless it's wiki policy, everything is still decided by consensus on here (hopefully), so if there's anything that you are unhappy about, bring it up on project talk pages and let's get people voting so we can all vote and decide. AP only enforces consensus, and for the vast majority of times he seems to be getting the blame for that consensus, but he is just one vote and often he is forced to follow rules that he has voted against. But again, that's the annoying reality of editing Wikipedia.GunGagdinMoan 16:32, 18 October 2010 (UTC)

London Wikimedia Fundraiser

Good evening! This is a friendly message from Chase me ladies, I'm the Cavalry, inviting you to the London Wikimedia Fundraising party on 19th December 2010, in approximately one week. This party is being held at an artistic London venue with room for approximately 300 people, and is being funded by Ed Saperia, a non-Wikipedian who has a reputation for holding exclusive events all over London. This year, he wants to help Wikipedia, and is subsidising a charity event for us. We're keen to get as many Wikimedians coming as possible, and we already have approximately 200 guests, including members of the press, and some mystery guests! More details can be found at http://ten.wikipedia.org/wiki/London - expect an Eigenharp, a mulled wine hot tub, a free hog roast, a haybale amphitheatre and more. If you're interested in coming - and we'd love to have you - please go to the ten.wikipedia page and follow the link to the Facebook event. Signing up on Facebook will add you to the party guestlist. Entry fee is a heavily subsidised £5 and entry is restricted to over 18s. It promises to be a 10th birthday party to remember! If you have any questions, please email me at chasemewiki at gmail.com.

Hope we'll see you there, (and apologies for the talk page spam) - Chase me ladies, I'm the Cavalry (talk) 22:55, 12 December 2010 (UTC)

Abi's image

Hey Gungadin. Was wondering, that image you reverted to was from 2008 and the bad quality one I uploaded was 2006/7. Is a 2008 image okay? --GSorby Chat with Me! 19:30, 9 January 2011 (UTC)

Yeah I know, it was me who originally uploaded them both on here. They were both used as infobox images at one time or another. The 2006 one I took from iplayer online and it was very bad quality, which is why it was eventually replaced. The other one should be better as I took it from my screen cap tool direct from TV. She doesnt look that much different so better to keep the good quality one.GunGagdinMoan 20:06, 9 January 2011 (UTC)
