World of Warcraft GA nomination failed

I regret to inform you that I have failed your GA nomination for World of Warcraft. My reasons are on the article's talk page. Thanks for nominating it, and feel free to try again when the article has improved. Green451 02:15, 14 December 2006 (UTC)

Thanks, I may try and work on the page to bring it up to GA quality to be resubmitted. Greeves 04:13, 14 December 2006 (UTC)

Re:WP:MMO Templates

Oops, I apologize. It was not on the page so I did not know there was already a template. As to where to place it I would search through the Category:Massively multiplayer online games and tag any game that qualifies in there. Anyways, I apologize as I was not aware.  Orfen User Talk | Contribs 18:58, 16 December 2006 (UTC)

Help!

Hi mate, I started an article on MMORPG Astro Empires its had over 20,000 players and the article has been worked on by many people and is getting more detailed. Today it was proposed for deletion by user: MER-C. Is there anything you can do to help us as a core member of the WikiProject MMOG? Butch-cassidy 13:52, 19 December 2006 (UTC)

I'm afraid that I don't vote if someone just asks me to... unless I agree such as in this case! I recommend that you vote as well here. I truly hope that this article can be saved! Greeves 22:20, 19 December 2006 (UTC)
Also, speaking of XFDs, I recently proposed WP:RUNESCAPE as an MfD. Any help would be great in getting rid of an almost useless project! Greeves 22:38, 19 December 2006 (UTC)
I am sad to say that this article looks like it will be deleted soon enough. WP:MMO has started an archive page for cases like this here. If you would like to help the article become more notable so that it can resume it's position in article mainspace, the article's archive is here. Hope the article can be revived. Greeves 21:44, 24 December 2006 (UTC)

Astro Empires RfD

You added your name behind this article on the WP:MMOG page, does this meen you created it? Because if so, as of now the RfD looks like the article may be deleted. I suggest if you feel this article may be useful in the future you create some sort of archive of it and put a link on the WikiProject page. That way when it becomes notable we can use what we had before and edit that.  Orfen User Talk | Contribs 00:37, 20 December 2006 (UTC)

Astro Empires Main Article

Greeves, you asked why I re-created the article on Astro Empires when it had previously been deleted. Short answer: I didn't know it had been deleted, or had ever existed, as a search of Wikipedia on the term returned no results. Having just joined that game, I went to look it up on Wikipedia, didn't find it, and decided it was worth a stub. Thank you for pointing me to Wikipedia:WikiProject Massively multiplayer online games/Article Archive/Astro Empires, and for re-deleting the stub. Regards, Thomaslknapp 06:45, 31 December 2006 (UTC)

I didn't mean it in a rude way; I guess the majority of Wikipedians probably didn't know about the deletion either! :-) Greeves 16:39, 31 December 2006 (UTC)

Re:WikiProject Runescape

Ok, I voted, I don't feel that the projects scope is not large enough to have it's own WikiProject and if the members join WP:MMO we can get a lot more done if we had more members.  Orfen User Talk | Contribs 20:46, 1 January 2007 (UTC)

Thanks Orfen! I think after the page gets moves (which I will imagine will happen) will copy the WikiProject's member list and add all of the members to our member list while their task force can have a more specific member list at the same time. Greeves 00:03, 2 January 2007 (UTC)

Have updated the survey, containing all similar pages, perhaps you want to chenge your "vote"? AzaToth 00:27, 5 January 2007 (UTC)

Hi Greeves! I have removed the {{prod}} suggestion which you added to the article because I feel the article has enough merit to remain in Wikipedia. Note also that the article has been nominated for deletion previously but was kept. Hence, deletion of the article is clearly contested and therefore not a candidate for the WP:PROD process. Sjakkalle (Check!) 15:15, 5 January 2007 (UTC)

Your GA nomination of World of Warcraft

The article World of Warcraft you nominated as a good article has been placed on hold. It hasn't failed because it's basically a good article, but there are some minor changes or clarifications needed to be addressed. If these are fixed within seven days, the article will pass, otherwise it will fail. See Talk:World of Warcraft for things needed to be addressed. Sorry for not notifying you of this last night, but I needed to sleep right after I finished reviewing the article. Have a great day, and happy editing. Kyra~(talk) 15:46, 17 January 2007 (UTC)

Thanks! I hope that I amongst others can bring it up to the GA standards and if you could help us, that would be great! Thanks for taking the time to review it and for not failing it straight away. Greeves (talk contribs) 22:47, 17 January 2007 (UTC)

If you need help...

Greeves, if you need help with any of the MMOs that I know about, feel free to ask. I will be happy to help if I can, but I really only know much about 3 major ones, City of Heroes/Villans, World of Warcraft and the defunct Earth and Beyond. I don't mind helping with wording or proofing on the ones that I don't know. I have a degree in English Lit that I am using as a coaster anyway. Slavlin 22:29, 25 January 2007 (UTC)

I will make sure to and I invite you to join WikiProject MMO! Although you only know about a few games, same here! But we can still use your help. Greeves (talk contribs) 00:18, 30 January 2007 (UTC)

Thank You!

Hey, thanks for the award. I apologize with my lack of participation though. Basically all my Wikipedia time has been going towards the My Chemical Romance related articles and well, my time has been very short on here this month. I've been playing Star Wars Galaxies most of my time so haven't been on here much. But thank you very much, I will try and make sure I deserve this award this next month.  Orfen User Talk | Contribs 20:59, 28 January 2007 (UTC)

MMO Assessment

Thanks for the reminder. I've actually bumped into a small issue coming up with the regex. It isn't major, but I'm going to have to work on it a little bit longer. I'm going to work from the list of MMO template transclusions and then use the CVG templates. I'll keep you posted. I've definitely been thinking about it for some time. alphachimp 07:51, 29 January 2007 (UTC)

First Person Shooters

We might join up with the WP:CVG for this Wikiproject. But I want to know what FPS is?? --Destructo 087 22:43, 4 February 2007 (UTC)

First-person shooter. A shooting video game played in the first person perspective (through the eyes of the player, not over the shoulder, sky view, etc.). FPS can also be frames per second, meaning how many frames in an animation that are shown each second. Greeves (talk contribs) 22:47, 4 February 2007 (UTC)
By the way, I do not think that this should become a task force of WP:CVG over a daughter project to WP:CVG. For instance, look at WP:MMO; it has a whole project for a video game genre. There are even projects for individual games! I think that future WP:FPS deserves its own project. Greeves (talk contribs) 23:09, 4 February 2007 (UTC)

Advocacy for Australian Union of Students

Hello Mitch, and happy birthday for yesterday.

This is in reply to your message about your becoming my Advocate for the dispute with Rebecca. You ask what I hope you will achieve from your advocacy. I hope it will result in Rebecca realising that she incorrectly applied Wikipedia's policies, and agreeing to allow my proposed entry to appear in Wikipedia.

I have read the article about conflict of interest and I see what you're driving at. For example, if my kids were attending Ecole Golden Gate Middle School, it would be preferable if I did not write an article about the school. I can see that it is preferable for an article to be written by a disinterested party. The problem is, someone who has no interest in the subject matter is not going to be bothered writing an article.

There are other ways of addressing conflict of interest besides not writing an article. For example, you are a disinterested party as far as the entry for Australian Union of Students goes. So, if you think my article is biased, you can say so, and I can make appropriate changes. Presumably you have gone to the history section of the entry and seen my article that Rebecca deleted.

After I initiated the mediation, Rebecca contacted me with various excuses to justify deleting my article. She said, first, the article was spam. Second, she said there was no evidence of the existence of the Australian Union of Students. Third, she said the Australian Union of Students was not significant enough to justify its inclusion in Wikipedia.

In response, "spam" is a link that will interest a tiny proportion of readers, and has no relevance to the article where it appears. In this case, the name of the article is our name, which other people are forbidden from using by the common law relating to "passing off". If people enter our name in Wikipedia, they might reasonably expect to find a link to our internet site.

As to the existence of our association, this can be verified by going to the government site http://www.abr.business.gov.au, and entering our association's name in the search engine.

As to whether we are significant, I point out that all other Australian student associations have entries in Wikipedia. Some of these groups are no more than the committee which runs the canteen. OK, so we haven't to my knowledge appeared in any newspaper. That is because the Australian media is owned by about three media magnates, who are our political opponents. Just because the Nazis didn't allow anything about the French Resistance to appear in the French press, doesn't mean the French Resistance doesn't rate a mention in Wikipedia.

The entry for Australian Union of Students as it stands is defamatory, and contrary to Florida law (where Wikipedia is based), because it asserts our association has been dissolved. In America, you can call a society or company all kinds of nasty names, legally, but you can't say they have been dissolved, unless it happens to be true.

Yes, by all means have a word to Rebecca.

Regards, Wolfgang Borman

Welcome to the AMA!

File:AMA logo.png

Hello Greeves, I see that you have decided to join the AMA. I'll be the first to say welcome! We're always in need of more advocates, especially since were backlogged most of the time. Before heading into your first case, please take some time to familiarize yourself with the AMA FAQ's, the Guide to Advocacy, and the AMA Handbook.

Just a few pointers for what we do. We communicate by putting a template on our talk page. The template is {{AMA alerts}}. The AMA also has it's own IRC channel, which reports new cases and alerts to us. It can also be used as a place to ask for advice on an issue. If you'd like to jump right into a case, you are free to check out AMA Requests for Assistance, which is our new request for advocacy system. The instructions for how the technical part works is on it's talk page. You can also use the AMA userboxes that appear under here. If you have anymore questions about the organization, just ping any advocate's talk page, including our coordinator Steve Caruso or deputy coordinators Wikiwoohoo and Aeon. Again, welcome to the AMA! -Royalguard11(Talk·Desk·Review Me!) 17:24, 12 February 2007 (UTC)

You need to register your nickname on IRC before we give you access. This is to prevent anyone from stealing your nickname and pretending to be you. Please see Wikipedia:IRC_tutorial#Nickname_registration on how to register a nickname. -Royalguard11(Talk·Desk·Review Me!) 17:26, 12 February 2007 (UTC)

MMORPG

Sorry, but I removed MMORPG that you recently nominated. Per Wikipedia:Gaming Collaboration of the week/Removed, you can re-nominate an article after 2 months of it being on that page. Thunderbrand 03:54, 21 February 2007 (UTC)

I've gone and added a bunch more references. There are a couple of things I'd like to reference that I haven't been able to find a reference for yet (gilsinks in the FFXI economy, for example) but for the most part I'm pretty satisfied with it now. When you get a chance, would you mind looking at it and passing it for GA if you can, or if not, letting me know what else needs fixing? Thanks a lot! -RaCha'ar 02:45, 22 February 2007 (UTC)

SecondLife as an MMORPG

I'm glad that you saw the same sense that I did in classifying SL as other than an MMORPG. It seems to be argued over a lot on the discussion board, though. I'm interested on your thoughts as to why it isn't, as well (on the discussion for the MMO article anyway). {Caliah 13:30, 25 February 2007 (UTC)}

I removed it from the article for two reasons. (1) It needed a citation and I couldn't have any fact tags when I nominated it for GA (though that was not the main reason) and (2) I do not believe it to be an MMORPG. Let's not get technical with the "persistent universe", but let's go over the acronym itself. Is it massively multiplayer? Yes, it is multiplayer and massive amounts of people are "residents" (I suppose this is where the "persistent universe" part comes in also). It's online (on the Internet). From what I understand from the article, it is role-playing. But is it a game...? It doesn't seem like a game. The article specifically says that it is not a game. It is not in the MMORPG category.
I suppose that maybe I should have brought up the topic on the talk page, but I believe that if someone has a problem, they should see Talk:Second Life and change it there, before it is mentioned in the MMORPG article. I'm glad we see eye to eye. On a side note, if you are often working with MMO-related articles, maybe you should join WIkiProject MMO. Greeves (talk contribs reviews) 18:45, 25 February 2007 (UTC)

WP:UW future?

Hi Greeves,

Sorry for the blatant spam, but you have yourself down as interested at WikiProject user warnings WP:UW. There is a discussion on going here that might be of interest to you about the future of this project. There are two strawpolls on the talk pages and the second one is about the future of the WP:UW project. Now we have the end in sight we are looking at wrapping up the project and merging it with Template messages/User talk namespace WP:UTM and creating a one stop shop for all userspace template issue. As you have yourself down as interested in this project we thought you may have some input on this issue, and would like you to visit the discussion and give any thoughts you may have on the matter. In the process of bringing Wikihalo back to life, I'm checking for "illegally" awarded Wikihalos. A wikihalo can be awarded only by a discussion at its page, not by a single user. However, it seems that many users haven't understood this, and have awarded wikihalos without a proper nomination and so on.

I've discovered that you're displaying a wikihalo, but I haven't found the discussion related to it. Only five people have received a wikihalo (and one of 'em dubiously), and you aren't listed as one of 'em.

So, I'm very sorry, but unless you provide the link to the discussion, I have to ask you to remove the award from your userpage and/or any other page on which you are displaying it.

If you could point me to the diff with it was awarded to you, I can try to discover what's behind it ;-)

Thank you for your cooperation and happy editing,

Hi! I remember that when I nominated myself for it, I put it on my watchlist. I just checked the list of items on my watchlist and Wikipedia:Wikihalo nomination/Greeves seems to be a red link. The page was deleted (it could be easily checked from the deletion log). Martinp23 said that the only editor was you, except Dev920 who seems to have placed the deletion tag on it. There weren't votes at all. Also, you're listed on the Wikipedia:Wikihalo past nominations as nomination failed. So, I have to ask you to remove your user page from the category Category:Wikihalo award recipients. Happy editing, Snowolf (talk) CON COI - 17:54, 8 April 2007 (UTC)

That is an error which I have fixed. Look at the wikicode on that very page, they are all double equals signs. It is not a "template-space" issue, but a meta-wiki code issue that applies over all wikispaces, if I recall correctly. It has to do with parsing the page name properly, I think. -- Avi 23:55, 30 April 2007 (UTC)

Importance relates to the project in which it's being assessed - thus Fifth Avenue might be High importance for WikiProject New York City, but only Mid or Low for WikiProject USA. If it's for the 1.0 template, that is often very difficult to judge, so you can leave importance unassessed if you wish. (MartinBotII will be able to calculate importance for us - hopefully soon) Just be sure to add the quality assessment and the category for any articles you pass. I should be able to start helping much more in a couple of weeks time. Thanks, Walkerma 02:59, 4 May 2007 (UTC)

Your 3RR warning to Sm8900

You claimed on Sm8900's talk page that they had broken the thee revert rule. They, in fact, had not: their contributions show that they have edited it only once in the preceding 24 hours, and have actually only ever edited the page twice, both in the last two days. Elderleo, who originally added the information, also did not break the rule, as they only reverted twice.
I'm not saying I disagree with the removal of it, but if you're serious in your goal that you mention in your editor review, then you really ought to take the time to make sure that someone you are accusing of breaking a rule, especially one such as this, actually has broken it. --86.137.247.246 12:07, 5 May 2007 (UTC). By the way, if you feel you need to leave a response, do it here; my IP may be different when I get back, so replying on my talk page would not be a good idea.

I guess that I was wrong as I thought that since there were three four reverts in 24 hours related to that one section (diff 1, 2, 3, and 4) it would be violating WP:3RR and WP:EW. Sorry! Greeves (talk contribs reviews) 18:20, 5 May 2007 (UTC)

I challenge you to find my hidden page. If you do it will be rewarded. --Destructo 087 03:50, 7 May 2007 (UTC)

Re: Online source

This is regarding your request at Wikipedia:Requested templates#Online source. In this edit I've hidden the 3 boxes in a collapsible table that's collapsed by default. The title is flexible and can be changed to not say BBC. Feel free to revert this if this is worse than the small option. I can create a template for the table, in case other talk pages can find it useful as well. –Pomte 09:51, 14 May 2007 (UTC)

This is better, though would the whole thing be able to be made small? Thanks! Greeves (talk contribs reviews) 01:26, 16 May 2007 (UTC)
What do you mean the whole thing made small? If you set |small=yes on them right now, they won't look any better, just squished to the right. There's redundant text like "This page has been cited as a source by a media organization..." That really should be only stated once, and then the list of 3 sources. I can {{Onlinesources}} for this purpose. –Pomte 03:39, 16 May 2007 (UTC)

Hello, Greeves. An automated process has found and removed an image or media file tagged as nonfree media, and thus is being used under fair use that was in your userspace. The image (Image:EverQuest - The Temple of Solusek Ro.jpg) was found at the following location: User:Greeves/MMORPG History. This image or media was attempted to be removed per criterion number 9 of our non-free content policy. The image or media was replaced with Image:NonFreeImageRemoved.svg , so your formatting of your userpage should be fine. Please find a free image or media to replace it with, and or remove the image from your userspace. User:Gnome (Bot)-talk 02:41, 16 May 2007 (UTC)

Admin Coaching

You are actually the second person to ask me this, and I would be happy to coach you as well. I prefer to be as flexible as possible, so whatever format you would like to use, I would be happy with. 00:53, 18 May 2007 (UTC)

I'm afraid that I don't know what you mean by "format" as I'm new to admin coaching. Greeves (talk contribs reviews) 01:38, 18 May 2007 (UTC)
I mean that I am willing to coach you any way you would like: if you just want to ask me questions, if you want to set up a subpage, whatever you want to do. Prodego talk 01:40, 18 May 2007 (UTC)
I'm thinking maybe a subpage, whatever you think is best. I will probably have questions, though I hope to have additional coaching to that. Greeves (talk contribs reviews) 01:44, 18 May 2007 (UTC)
I set up a sub-page at User:Greeves/Admin coaching. Greeves (talk contribs reviews) 00:42, 19 May 2007 (UTC)

For someone wikilawyering WP:TALK#Own_comments, you sure didn't read it right. It says: Changing or deleting comments after someone replied is likely to cause problems, because it will put the reply in a different context. In that case you have several options.

As has been pointed out, no-one had replied and in fact, refactoring other peoples talk page comments through editing, removing or restoring is against wikipedia policy. Please refrain from restoring a comment that no-one replied to, and that I had removed as uneccesarily inflammatory. DarkSaber2k 08:59, 22 May 2007 (UTC)

You missed WP:TALK#Others.27_comments. Reposting somebody's deleted comment while they're offline, with the result of making it look as if they intended it to stay there, is a massively misleading change to make - if you feel really strongly about it, you should put strikethrough tags around it yourself, or otherwise make it clear that the original poster deleted their own comment. --McGeddon 09:50, 22 May 2007 (UTC)

Although, since I'm well within my rights to do so, if you DO re-add my comment, I will remove it again, since it was removed within 10 minutes of me posting it as it was poorly-thought out and inflammatory on my part. Re-adding it is achieving nothing apart from potentially provoking a situation that was supposed to have been avoided. DarkSaber2k 10:23, 22 May 2007 (UTC)

GAC backlog elimination drive

This form message is being sent to you either due to your membership with WikiProject Good Articles and/or your inclusion on the Wikipedia:Good article candidates/List of reviewers. A new drive has been started requesting that all members review at least one article (or more, if you wish!) within the next two weeks at GAC to help in removing the large backlog. This message is being sent to all members, and even members who have been recently reviewing articles. There are almost 130 members in this project and about 180 articles that currently need to be reviewed. If each member helps to review just one or two articles, the majority of the backlog will be cleared. Since the potential amount of reviewers may significantly increase, please make sure to add :{{GAReview}} underneath the article you are reviewing to ensure that only one person is reviewing each article. Additionally, the GA criteria may have been modified since your last review, so look over the criteria again to help you to determine if a candidate is GA-worthy. If you have any questions about this drive or the review process, leave a message on the GAC talk page. --Nehrams2020 00:35, 25 May 2007 (UTC)

GA Review

You mentioned here that it needs more refs on the plot section. I'm not sure exactly how this can be achieved, since (as far as I know) you can work out the plot by playing the campaign, you don't really need a news article to tell you about it. Could you please elaborate on this a little? Thanks for your review, and happy editing. G1ggy! 01:10, 26 May 2007 (UTC)
