I really don't want to make a big deal out of this. I personally think this list is so ill defined it should not exist, but I was overruled about this. You added four members to the list, and I am assuming the sources really show presence in Noida. But are all of these really "software companies"? MindTree is listed as "information technology (IT) consulting and implementation company" and Keane is a "Information Technology services firm". While Rockwell Automation has a software company called "Rockwell Software", the source you provided says it opened a "Customer Briefing and Competency Center" in Noida, hardly a branch of the software company. The list is called "List of software companies", it should only include software companies. Best regards. --Muhandes (talk) 20:17, 24 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Since you did not comment, I presumed you agree, and deleted the three companies discussed. --Muhandes (talk) 14:09, 25 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

further to this - really to go on any of our lists, companies should be notable enough to have their own wikipedia article - that a company exists isn't enough to get on there. --Cameron Scott (talk) 09:41, 25 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

The following was copied from my talk page so we can continue the discussion in one place --Muhandes (talk) 18:53, 26 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Dear Muhandes sorry for late reply, but i differ with you. Mindtree is a purely a software company, i would request you to go to its own wiki page and also that its Noida development centre was earlier ASAP solutions which was bought by Mindtree consulting in 2004 and deals in it solutions specific related to ERP and SAP based solutions. Again Keane Solutions is a Software firm, kindly go through their website. Regarding Rockwell Automation, u said they have a seperate software arm Rockwell Software, its not the case, they just have software product named 'Rockwell Software'. Further its competency centre deals with Information Technology solutions for their different engineering products. Hence I think all these fall under software company category and should be included in the list... I do not agree, and nor do the Wikipedia articles on the companies or the companies' websites.
  • MindTree is described in the article as a consulting and implementation company. Its own website title is "MindTree | IT Services, Outsourcing, Consulting, Testing, Product Engineering". Even you yourself said it implements ERP and SAP solutions. You will notice it is indeed listed on List of IT companies in Hyderabad.
  • Keane is described in the article as an Information Technology services firm. Its own website says "Keane, an NTT DATA Company, is an IT services firm". Again, it is already listed on List of IT consulting firms and List of IT companies in Hyderabad.
  • As for Rockwell Automation, you are probably correct on the organizational structure and Rockwell Software may be a brand or a branch, but this is insubstantial (as a matter of fact I gave it as a positive point, meaning it could be a software company). The important thing is that Rockwell Automation does have a software part, but I see no evidence that the software is developed in Noida. the source says it is a "Customer Briefing and Competency Center". It says it will be used to "provide competency development and proof of concept capabilities" and it "showcases our advanced automation products". This does not seem like a software development facility at all, but much more like a centre where the main software offering, developed elsewhere, is tailored/implemented/configured for customers.
I'm sorry, but as you can see, I disagree with you. I think that unless we put a very strict limitation on the definition, every company could be added to the list, as ultimately almost all companies these days have a software component. But I do not have ownership on the article, and other editors may disagree with me. If you feel like opening this for discussion, feel free to copy this entire discussion to the article's talk page, and we can see what the consensus is. --Muhandes (talk) 18:53, 26 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

The following was copied from my talk page so we can continue the discussion in one place --Muhandes (talk) 08:35, 28 September 2011 (UTC) You mentioned of a strict differntiation between software and IT services firm... i was wondering than howcome infosys, tcs, accenture, HCL etc. being IT services firm being mentioned on page. I think the point here is that almost every IT services firm deals with software development. In india maximum are IT services firm or rather IT outsourcing firm, few are there for a purely software development work. Kindly enlighten on this. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Greatbuddha (talkcontribs) 06:49, 28 September 2011 (UTC) Up to here --Muhandes (talk) 08:35, 28 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I ask you again not to split the discussion. See WP:TALKPAGE on how to use talk pages.
You are absolutely correct, the other companies you mentioned should probably mostly be removed. Note that I did not require sources from them either, which I did required from the ones you added. The reason is mostly Wikipedia etiquette. The other companies are already on the page, while you're ones are new additions. When someone makes a new addition they have a burden to show that their addition is adequate, and it is acceptable to challenge the addition. On the other hand, when an editor removes something, etiquette requires that they be more careful and requires them to do the research. As I do not have the time to research each and every company at each and every location, I usually only look at new additions. With time, I suppose most will be removed as well. If there is a company for which you are certain no software development is taking place, I think you can remove them. I agree that most companies from India do not do software development, which is another reason there was opposition to this list to begin with. --Muhandes (talk) 08:35, 28 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]
