Oxford Wikimania 2010 and Wikimedia UK v2.0 Notice

Hi,

As a regularly contributing UK Wikipedian, we were wondering if you wanted to contribute to the Oxford bid to host the 2010 Wikimania conference. Please see here for details of how to get involved, we need all the help we can get if we are to put in a compelling bid.

We are also in the process of forming a new UK Wikimedia chapter to replace the soon to be folded old one. If you are interested in helping shape our plans, showing your support or becoming a future member or board member, please head over to the Wikimedia UK v2.0 page and let us know. We plan on holding an election in the next month to find the initial board, who will oversee the process of founding the company and accepting membership applications. They will then call an AGM to formally elect a new board who after obtaining charitable status will start the fund raising, promotion and active support for the UK Wikimedian community for which the chapter is being founded.

You may also wish to attend the next London meet-up at which both of these issues will be discussed. If you can't attend this meetup, you may want to watch Wikipedia:Meetup, for updates on future meets.

We look forward to hearing from you soon, and we send our apologies for this automated intrusion onto your talk page!

Control ownership of Commmerzbank

Why do you say that Allianz's prospective 30% ownership of Commerzbank does not project control? Normally, 30% would easily project control - far beyond what is needed by GAAP. Are you saying that Alllianz will NOT control Commerzbank through its 30% prospective ownership stake? If so, why? Explain yourself. What would be the exemption? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 86.143.159.186 (talk) 18:44, 3 September 2008 (UTC)

It's not a controlling stake (which I would take to mean 50% + 1 of shares and/or votes) because another party could quite easily buy up more than 30% of shares and/or votes in Commerzbank without Allianz selling. At an annual shareholder's meeting all of the proposals put forward by Allianz could feasibly be voted down since the other 70% of shares are held by other parties. As I understand it, Allianz will not get to nominate a majority of seats on the board either. I'm going to revert you again for now - note that as you are the one making an assertion in the article, the onus is on you to provide a reliable source, not me. I finally got around to reading your message (Wikipedia is not a major point in my life). You easily display your lack of knowledge of the subject. You write, "It's not a controlling stake which I would take to mean 50% + 1". It doesn't matter what YOU think is a controlling stake. GAAP says it is 20%. My guess is that you don't even know what GAAP is: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/GAAP . So, your opinion doesn't matter - GAAP controls, and GAAP says 20%. Wikipedia is not about you posting what your personal opinions are about what constitutes "control". But it's nice to see that you admitted that you were posting your personal opinions.

No problem. That user seems to have real issues with core policies (in particular WP:NPOV, WP:OR and WP:RS). I'd appreciate it if you'd keep a bit of an eye on things as well - it's easier to bring aggressive editors around to a consensus-based approach if there's a few other people involved. Hi again,

Thanks for your response re Erste Bank.

I am using the material with permission from Erste Bank - so how do I make this clear on the page?

Thank you.

FTSE 100

Is there a reason why you only half updated the FTSE 100 article with the Sept changes, updating the current member list, but did not update the Former members section. ie Stage Coach is now in both sections, but carphone warehouse was removed from 1st list but not added to second. - BulldozerD11 (talk) 13:25, 22 September 2008 (UTC)

Nope, just forgot. It was getting late and I was trying to rattle through the update as quickly as possible. Cheers for pointing that out, I'll sort it now. Gr1st (talk) 18:47, 22 September 2008 (UTC)
Cheers no problems, its one of those articles I take a Watching interest in for odd edits, thanks for fixing it (finishing update) - BulldozerD11 (talk) 19:23, 22 September 2008 (UTC)

Marine Harvest for GA?

Hi! I've been doing some work improving the operations section of Marine Harvest. Combined with the efforts you put into the history section a few months ago, I think it may be ready for a good article nomination. I'll try to get rid of some of the red links, but otherwise I believe it meets the criteria. However, I would like your feelings on the matter before initiate the nomination process. Thanks, Arsenikk (talk) 13:35, 1 November 2008 (UTC)

It all looks pretty good to me, nice work on that. I'll try and add a little more on the Scottish operations in the next day or two, but other than that I'm quite happy with the article. Looking at your previous roster of GAs, you're probably a better judge of whether it meets the criteria than I am! Gr1st (talk) 17:41, 1 November 2008 (UTC)
I nominated the article now. It will typically take one to three weeks before we get a review; they might pass it, or they may put it on hold, and we fix up stuff before it is passed. Good work so far, Arsenikk (talk) 21:53, 3 November 2008 (UTC)
