Women in Green GA Editathon October 2023 - Around the World in 31 Days

Hello Goldsztajn/Archives/2023:

WikiProject Women in Green is holding a month-long Good Article Edit-a-thon event in October 2023!

Running from October 1 to 31, 2023, WikiProject Women in Green (WiG) is hosting a Good Article (GA) edit-a-thon event with the theme Around the World in 31 Days! All experience levels welcome. Never worked on a GA project before? We'll teach you how to get started. Or maybe you're an old hand at GAs – we'd love to have you involved! Participants are invited to work on nominating and/or reviewing GA submissions related to women and women's works (e.g., books, films) during the event period. We hope to collectively cover article subjects from at least 31 countries (or broader international articles) by month's end. GA resources and one-on-one support will be provided by experienced GA editors, and participants will have the opportunity to earn a special WiG barnstar for their efforts.

We hope to see you there!

Question from Kiwitaxi (11:56, 22 September 2023)

Hi there! My name is Sofia and I'm here to create a Wikipedia page for Kiwitaxi (https://www.tripadvisor.com/Attraction_Review-g186525-d14968214-Reviews-Kiwitaxi-Edinburgh_Scotland.html). Please explain how this works 🙏 Many thanks in advance! --Kiwitaxi (talk) 11:56, 22 September 2023 (UTC)

Hi @Kiwitaxi - for a subject to have an article in Wikipedia it needs to be noteable, the criteria for companies to have articles on Wikipedia are described here: Wikipedia:Notability (organizations and companies). The main point is that there needs to be mutiple, independent reliable sources that discuss a subject in detail; press releases, interviews, advertisements, self-published materials, reviews on promotional websites, among others, are not considered reliable. Finally, given your username, it would appear you have a connection to this company - that is considered a conflict of interest; I would encourage reading this: Help:Your_first_article#Are_you_closely_connected_to_the_article_topic? If I can help any further, let me know. Regards, Goldsztajn (talk) 21:57, 22 September 2023 (UTC)

Thanks for the cookie

Hey, Gold. It's been a long period this year. Thanks for the cookie you left me on my talk page. I have been inactive from WP for the last six months because of my mental health. Hopefully, I can try to do better than last time. Darrion "Beans" Brown 🙂 (my talk page / my sandbox) 12:06, 24 September 2023 (UTC)

Hey @DBrown SPS - good to hear from you. I think the best Wikipedians are always trying to improve and learn, no matter how long we've been around. Keep in touch! Kind regards, Goldsztajn (talk) 20:58, 24 September 2023 (UTC)

New pages patrol newsletter

Hello Goldsztajn/Archives/2023,

New Page Review article queue, March to September 2023

Backlog update: At the time of this message, there are 11,300 articles and 15,600 redirects awaiting review. This is the highest backlog in a long time. Please help out by doing additional reviews!

October backlog elimination drive: A one-month backlog drive for October will start in one week! Barnstars will be awarded based on the number of articles and redirects patrolled. Articles will earn 4x as many points compared to redirects. You can sign up here.

PageTriage code upgrades: Upgrades to the PageTriage code, initiated by the NPP open letter in 2022 and actioned by the WMF Moderator Tools Team in 2023, are ongoing. More information can be found here. As part of this work, the Special:NewPagesFeed now has a new version in beta! The update leaves the NewPagesFeed appearance and function mostly identical to the old one, but updates the underlying code, making it easier to maintain and helping make sure the extension is not decommissioned due to maintenance issues in the future. You can try out the new Special:NewPagesFeed here - it will replace the current version soon.

Notability tip: Professors can meet WP:PROF #1 by having their academic papers be widely cited by their peers. When reviewing professor articles, it is a good idea to find their Google Scholar or Scopus profile and take a look at their h-index and number of citations. As a very rough rule of thumb, for most fields, articles on people with a h-index of twenty or more, a first-authored paper with more than a thousand citations, or multiple papers each with more than a hundred citations are likely to be kept at AfD.

Reviewing tip: If you would like like a second opinion on your reviews or simply want another new page reviewer by your side when patrolling, we recommend pair reviewing! This is where two reviewers use Discord voice chat and screen sharing to communicate with each other while reviewing the same article simultaneously. This is a great way to learn and transfer knowledge.
