ArbCom 2023 Elections voter message

Hello! Voting in the 2023 Arbitration Committee elections is now open until 23:59 (UTC) on Monday, 11 December 2023. All eligible users are allowed to vote. Users with alternate accounts may only vote once.

The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to impose binding solutions to disputes between editors, primarily for serious conduct disputes the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the authority to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail.

If you wish to participate in the 2023 election, please review the candidates and submit your choices on the voting page. If you no longer wish to receive these messages, you may add {{NoACEMM}} to your user talk page. MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 00:30, 28 November 2023 (UTC)

Question from Magarac12 (19:48, 22 December 2023)

Hi there! I'm still quite new at this. Can you please tell me how I can join particular communities dedicated to my interests? Also, should I put that I have degrees (BA, MA, PhD) in certain fields? I saw some people have badges for that, but I don't know if it is important here. --Magarac12 (talk) 19:48, 22 December 2023 (UTC)

Hi @Magarac12 welcome! Probably the simplest way to connect with other editors in your areas of interest is two fold: first, through WikiProjects - you can find a listing of projects here: Wikipedia:WikiProject Council/Directory. I'm most active in a project dedicated to organized labour, and some others, which are shown on my user page. Some projects are not active, some can be very active, it's a real mixture, but I've found them to be particlarly useful. Feel free to let me know your interest areas and I can direct you more specifically if you would like.
The other way to connect with editors in your interest areas is to look at artices of interest to you and see who has worked on them via the article history. Although some editors work across many fields and others can stay within single areas.
In terms of what one puts on a user page, have a read of this WP:UPYES - it's pretty open what one can include, but my principle is to give other editors information about what kind of skills and experience (and views) I have in relation to building this encyclopaedia. So, yes, doctor :) ... I do think informing others we have academic qualifications is a useful thing to convey. I also recommend to all editors that they maintain anonymity - I don't include idenifying information. Some editors feel comfortable revealing their identity, but given the public nature of one's work here, there are good reasons to not make one's identity a focus of attention.
Feel free to leave me any more questions you have. Regards, Goldsztajn (talk) 20:51, 22 December 2023 (UTC)
