A barnstar for you!

The Original Barnstar
Hi there! First of all, I'd like to thank you for your amazing work. I'm currently researching feminist/women wikiprojects and the gender gap in Wikipedia from a Brazilian perspective. I can see there isn't much content like this in Portuguese, like "women artists, writers or scientists". Other lists like "Brazilian athletes" show a lot o male footballers even though our greatest footballer of all time is female. I want to become an editor to work on two fronts: translating content from Portuguese to English, to improve the visibility of Brazilian women and adding/expanding Brazilian female biographies in both languages.

Thanks again for your work and for helping inspiring people to do the same. Best wishes! melisemp Melisemp (talk) 16:22, 9 April 2020 (UTC)

Disambiguation link notification for May 11

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. An automated process has detected that when you recently edited 100 (emergency telephone number), you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Palestine (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver). Such links are usually incorrect, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of unrelated topics with similar titles. (Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.)

A question about an edit you made to "Glutamate Flavouring"

Dear Gobonobo, I'm a science journalist from Israel and my attention was drawn to an addition that was added to the "Glutamte Flavouring" article (not by you): " It is often the subject of controversy due to multiple online rumours spread around Israel in 2011 but these are false." Since I couldn't find any indications of such rumors, I wrote about my confusion in the talk page and saw you deleted that addition. I'm not so familiar with wikipedia, and therefore am fascinated in knowing a bit more about this situation - why do you think such an addition was made and why did you decide to delete it? If I could understand the logic of it a bit more, that could be great. Thank you very much. YouKnowTwo YouKnowTwo (talk) 12:08, 31 May 2020 (UTC)

Porter Novelli

Hi! I'd like to respectfully request that you undo the addition of Arabella Advisors to the list of clients noted in Porter Novelli. The source cited does not support that statement, nor is it accurate. Thanks! Mary Gaulke (talk) 20:27, 11 June 2020 (UTC)

Hi Mary. I was pretty tired when I added that. I can't see the article from this computer, but I thought the source said Arabella was one of their clients. gobonobo + c 04:37, 12 June 2020 (UTC)
The source implied it, but the article has since been updated to clarify. Happy to provide a PDF if you'd like to verify, or I believe the portion of the article before the paywall cutoff now makes it clear. Thank you! Mary Gaulke (talk) 19:49, 12 June 2020 (UTC)
Oh that's good. It did seem like the article's lede had changed. gobonobo + c 09:46, 13 June 2020 (UTC)

Regarding User:Taliarycroft

Hello, Gobonobo. I have contacted you due to my concerns about the user as you have given them a warning on their talk page over the Simon Cowell edits. Please note that these are likely not be in order, but I will try to keep them in order and will list the edit number to help. They asked an uninvolved user to revert edits made by another user, claiming that they were wrong. (Special:Diff/962840303) The uninvolved user apparently agreed as there is a section on the talk page claiming the two to have engaged in an edit war. They have repeatedly removed talk page comments on an article's talk page. (Special:Diff/962857316, Special:Diff/962857338, Special:Diff/962858378)

Additionally, there is some odd edits that warrant mention. They made a series of edits altering the year a person was born and self reverting them before settling on one not backed up by the source already on the article. (963266550: 1987 -> 1991, 963310752: Revert to 1987, 963310914: 1987 -> 1992, 963311775: Second revert back to 1987, 963312409: Reverted incorrectly to 1992) They made 19 reverts to the 19 edits made by a user three weeks prior which only changed how certain dates were grouped together. (Special:Diff/963227924 to Special:Diff/964342920) They blanked the biography of a person and replaced it with a redirect for eight minutes before self reverting. (Special:Diff/963860650)

I will say that they do make good edits at times such as Special:Diff/963566440 and Special:Diff/963567214 where they added images to Wikipedia for the use of having title cards for shows and properly tagged them as non-free along with creating (Special:Diff/963446535) and expanding (Special:Diff/963249995) articles on notable people. So, I don't believe the user is fully problematic, but they do have more concerning edits than not in my opinion. --Super Goku V (talk) 01:39, 26 June 2020 (UTC)

@Super Goku V: Some of this could be due to inexperienced editing, but I share your concerns. I'm mostly concerned about death hoaxes though. If you see that type of edit again, feel free to file a report at WP:AIV. gobonobo + c 01:54, 26 June 2020 (UTC)
Understood as they have only been a user for about 11 days. Additionally, I must issue a correction. I thought about how odd it was that an uninvolved user got involved, so I decided to check further and found that the two users mentioned in the edit war above have interacted with each other prior to Taliarycroft's comments. (Special:Diff/954919709) This does change the meaning of that incident and I have strikethrough the text uninvolved to turn it into involved. I apologize for the earlier misleading comment. --Super Goku V (talk) 01:58, 26 June 2020 (UTC)

Erasing history

Since you seem to have an interest in the Confederate statues coming down (this seems to be a common interest with chimpanzees) I was wondering if you knew what would make a good addition to the Cancel culture disambiguation page. Here is the definition I saw in today's newspaper.— Vchimpanzee • talk • contributions • 22:43, 1 July 2020 (UTC)

@Vchimpanzee: Personally, I don't think we need a disambiguation page there. The link to 2020 United States racial injustice reckoning seems particularly tenuous. I'm thinking that we should just restore the old Cancel culture article. It was merged into Online shaming. There's also a small section from the old Call-out culture article that could maybe be incorporated. A new article could still mention the "reckoning" though and have a hatnote for the tv episode if we need it. I'm sure Bacondrum will have an opinion on this as well. gobonobo + c 23:00, 1 July 2020 (UTC)
It's a non-event, a buzzword. This is reflected in the scant sourcing and endless POV/OR edits listing every editors favourite celebrity and how upset said editors were that their fave show was cancelled. Don't turn the disambiguation page into a POV/OR cluster. In fact, I can see no reason for a disambiguation page, it's just a tedious term. Just because some people in the US media think a term is hot right now does not make it significant in any way. Bacondrum (talk) 23:41, 1 July 2020 (UTC)
I've been editing Wikipedia for 13 years but that doesn't change the fact that if I see a concept that looks notable, I'm too quick to declare it worthy of an article or at least coverage in an existing article and I apologize for that, but I don't think George Will made up the term. But if no one can figure out why George Will used the term, then I guess nothing can be done with "cancel culture".
But clearly erasing history is a concept Wikipedia should be covering. Where should Wikipedia cover it? I just added the link to 2020 United States racial injustice reckoning because it seemed to be all we had right now.— Vchimpanzee • talk • contributions • 15:22, 2 July 2020 (UTC)
I didn't actually do a search because i'm not used to doing that at home. Here is one source that makes clear the definition of "cancel culture" is not limited to "online shaming". Though if Bacondrum's opinion is that this is just another example of "[j]ust because some people in the US media think a term is hot right now does not make it significant in any way" then I suppose this view must be respected because it could be right.— Vchimpanzee • talk • contributions • 16:16, 2 July 2020 (UTC)
It appears the more I search, the more results come up that support my view. Here is another justification for my attempt to turn "Cancel culture" into a disambiguation page. This is not online shaming. Which existing Wikipedia article covers the topic? The one that is "tenuous".— Vchimpanzee • talk • contributions • 16:29, 3 July 2020 (UTC)
