September 2014[edit]

Information icon Hello, I'm Evad37. I noticed that you recently removed some content from Perth without explaining why. In the future, it would be helpful to others if you described your changes to Wikipedia with an accurate edit summary. If this was a mistake, don't worry; I restored the removed content. If you would like to experiment, please use the sandbox. If you think I made a mistake, or if you have any questions, you can leave me a message on my talk page. Thanks! Evad37, thanks for your note. I'm green to editing on Wikipedia, so appreciate the helpful advice about the best way to edit. Can you please consider the edit to remove the note regarding Rolf Harris. Given recent events with legal issues, I feel that his name should not be linked to the Perth page - the City of Perth has psychically removed his plaque from St Georges Tce, so it would be a logically edit to remove his name from the Perth Wikipedia page - http://www.abc.net.au/news/2014-07-16/rolf-harris-plaque-removed-from-perth-cbd/5600176

Hi Gartners. (note that you should really always login when editing, using the link at the top-right of the screen, so that comments and actions can be attributed to you rather than an IP address, and because Wikipedia has a policy against the misuse of multiple accounts/IP addresses)
First off, thanks for taking an interest in Wikipedia and the improvement to articles. I'll come back to the Rolf Harris issue in a moment, but here are some helpful links that will help get you started with editing:

Additional tips...

Now, regarding Rolf Harris in the Perth article: He is given a brief mention in the "Arts and entertainment" section of the article as a performer/artist from Perth who had international fame, and was given the nickname "The Boy From Bassendean". This was true when it was added in 2009, 2 years ago, 1 year ago, and now. To say otherwise would be historical revisionism. I'll admit that this isn't the whole story – there is of course the allegations, trial, conviction, and sentencing of Harris. However, the great thing about Wikipedia being an online encyclopaedia is that we can, and have, linked the text "Rolf Harris" in the Perth article to our article on Rolf Harris, which has those relevant details. This linking to give the whole (or at least, most of) the story is one critical difference between the Perth Wikipedia article and the sidewalk in Perth. Another major difference is the purpose: Wikipedia includes relevant, factual information for the purpose of building an encyclopedia, while the primary purpose of plaques and displays of artwork were to honour a man (who a lot of people do not think should be honoured). - Evad37 [talk] 07:59, 4 September 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Just a side note: What Rolf Harris did seems to pale in comparison to what the Royal Commission into Institutional Responses to Child Sexual Abuse is uncovering. The logical extension of what you you want re Rolf Harris would be the mass removal of mentions of the Scouts, YMCA, Catholic Church, etc from Wikipedia articles – which doesn't seem sensible, does it? - Evad37 [talk] 07:59, 4 September 2014 (UTC)[reply]

A tag has been placed on File:Moodle 2.7 Application Screenshot.png requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section F1 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the image is an unused redundant copy (all pixels the same or scaled down) of an image in the same file format, which is on Wikipedia (not on Commons), and all inward links have been updated.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Click here to contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be removed without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines.
