Welcome!

Hello, Garble, and welcome to Wikipedia! Thank you for your contributions. I hope you like the place and decide to stay. Here are some pages that you might find helpful:

I hope you enjoy editing here and being a Wikipedian! Please sign your name on talk pages using four tildes (~~~~); this will automatically produce your name and the date. If you need help, check out Wikipedia:Questions, ask me on my talk page, or place {{helpme}} on your talk page and someone will show up shortly to answer your questions. Again, welcome!

I've moved your page Stuart cloete to the page Stuart Cloete, Wikipedia isn't very good at directing links to pages with alternate capitalisations, but now all the internal links should point in the right places. Hope you stay at wikipedia and keep up the good work; if you have any questions, please feel free to ask! Inner Earth 21:34, 28 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

The move was no problem, and the article itself looks great - it's really nice to see a complete, well researched and well referenced article appearing as if out of nowhere. I've written nothing so substantial since i've been here, but seem to spend plenty of time checking and fixing my own typographical errors! Inner Earth 22:03, 28 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Moving pages[edit]

I moved the Comfort and Joy pages again from (1984 movie) and (2003 movie) to (1984 film) and (2003 film) in accorandance with WP:Films' naming conventions. Movie is no longer used in the title, as we have switched over to using film to keep it uniform. I already fixed all the redirects and everything, so in the future use the film instead of movie in the title. Keep up the good work and happy editing! --Nehrams2020 21:22, 22 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Wikimania 2007[edit]

Hi Garble

Wikimania 2007, which is being held in Taipei, Taiwan on August 3-5, is offering opportunities for travel scholarships to Wikimania for active users of Wikimedia projects from the continent of Africa. Although the original scholarship deadline has passed, please, if you are interested, you may still apply at http://wm07schols.wikimedia.org/apply.php. Sincerely yours, Cary Bass 21:27, 1 May 2007 (UTC)

Mageu[edit]

Thanks for uploading your photo of Mageu! It really helps bring the article to life, and it's always good to have more free photos here on Wikipedia. All the best, – Quadell (talk) (random) 17:07, 18 December 2007 (UTC) Thank you, sorry for late reply, don't usually use my named account unless I have to so I didn't notice this till now. Inviting you to WikiAfrica Incubator![edit]

Hey Garble,

WikiAfrica invites you to support the Africa Incubator

WikiAfrica is pleased to invite you as a self-declared African Wikipedian to evaluate the Africa Incubator. WikiAfrica has created the Africa Incubator to support and assist new authors, as they create their first articles and learn the ins and outs of contributing to Wikipedia.

The Africa Incubator is a ‘soft landing’ for new authors to develop articles that relate to Africa. It assists them in becoming compliant and knowledgeable of Wikipedia principles and rules. Based within the Wikipedia framework, the Africa Incubator is fully interactive and enables feedback, assistance and forums.

This is where we need your help! For the Africa Incubator to be successful, it needs the intervention, interaction and experience of Incubator Mentors. We are looking for a pool of active experienced Wikipedians to consistently participate in ’owning’ the Africa Incubator. Incubator Mentors will assist new comers through the editing process. They will also help test and expand the Africa Incubator, and will play a vital role in encouraging newcomers to be Wikipedians for life

Please visit WikiAfrica Incubator to give us your honest feedback and evaluation. WikiAfrica is a ground-breaking project that is designed to Africanise Wikipedia by generating and expanding 30,000 articles over two years. Find out more about this project here WikiAfrica. To get involved, contact Francis [wikipedian@wikiafrica.net] Twitter: twitter.com/#!/wikiafrica Facebook: www.facebook.com/WikiAfrica

Call for Wikipedians in Residence in Africa[edit]

Hello,

I hope you are well and thriving!! WikiAfrica has just put out a call for two Wikipedians in Residence. One in Cape Town at WikiAfrica, at the Africa Centre; and the other for WikiAfrica Cameroon in Douala, at doual’art. If you are interested, please contact either Marilyn [marilyn.doualabell@doualart.org] for the WikiAfrica Cameroon call or Isla [islahf@africacentre.net] for the WikiAfrica position in Cape Town.

If you are not interested in applying, I would be very grateful if you could spread this call far and wide among your networks to ensure that both projects get excellent candidates. Here is the link for the information page: http://www.wikiafrica.net/two-wikipedians-in-residence-for-africa/

Best regards, Islahaddow

Disambiguation link notification for April 17[edit]

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. Wikipedia appreciates your help. We noticed though that when you edited Pretoria, you added links pointing to the disambiguation pages Brits, Kempton Park and Delmas (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver). Such links are almost always unintended, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of "Did you mean..." article titles. Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.

South African roads[edit]

Please note that Wikipedia does not currently have categories named Category:Regional Routes in North West or Category:Regional Routes in Free State; rather, the categories are located at Category:Regional Routes in North West (South African province) and Category:Regional Routes in the Free State (South African province).

You're free to propose that the categories be renamed to the simpler titles via a WP:CFR nomination if you wish, but until they've actually been moved to different titles you need to use the existing category names on any new articles you create for roads in those provinces. Thanks. Bearcat (talk) 16:56, 21 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Just a followup, because I think you might have misinterpreted what I was saying earlier: the extra disambiguator "(South African province)" is only present in the categories for North West and the Free State, and is not in the categories for Limpopo, Mpumalanga, KwaZulu-Natal, etc. If you look at Category:Regional Routes in South Africa, you can see what names are actually being used for each category — but for all of them you need to use the name that the category is actually located at. Thanks. Bearcat (talk) 04:22, 25 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Road pages[edit]

Please provide sources when creating pages. Eeekster (talk) 21:12, 27 April 2013 (UTC) I've asked about this. If you come up a way of referencing Google Maps / Shell Road Atlas (especially the former) please do. Garble (talk) 21:16, 27 April 2013 (UTC) (Plus most of the existing South African routes pages don't have sources, I'm guessing their creators faced a similar dilemma.)[reply]

File permission problem with File:Canine Transmissable Venereal Tumour in a bitch; 5 February 2014, Port Elizabeth, South Africa.jpg[edit]

Thanks for uploading File:Canine Transmissable Venereal Tumour in a bitch; 5 February 2014, Port Elizabeth, South Africa.jpg. I noticed that while you provided a valid copyright licensing tag, there is no proof that the creator of the file has agreed to release it under the given license.

If you are the copyright holder for this media entirely yourself but have previously published it elsewhere (especially online), please either

  • make a note permitting reuse under the CC-BY-SA or another acceptable free license (see this list) at the site of the original publication; or
  • Send an email from an address associated with the original publication to permissions-en@wikimedia.org, stating your ownership of the material and your intention to publish it under a free license. You can find a sample permission letter here. If you take this step, add {{OTRS pending}} to the file description page to prevent premature deletion.

If you did not create it entirely yourself, please ask the person who created the file to take one of the two steps listed above, or if the owner of the file has already given their permission to you via email, please forward that email to permissions-en@wikimedia.org.

If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Non-free content, use a tag such as {{non-free fair use}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:File copyright tags#Fair use, and add a rationale justifying the file's use on the article or articles where it is included. See Wikipedia:File copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have provided evidence that their copyright owners have agreed to license their works under the tags you supplied, too. You can find a list of files you have created in your upload log. Files lacking evidence of permission may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. You may wish to read the Wikipedia's image use policy. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Sfan00 IMG (talk) 12:35, 9 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Notice

The article R411 (South Africa) has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

This is a regional route with no significant coverage to show.

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, pages may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the page to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion.
