Re: Disambiguation[edit]

Thanks for the friendly welcome - much appreciated! If I may, I'll ask a question. I have been trying to help out with the WP:DPL - and come across an issue. If an article contains a link on a word that goes to a disambiguation page but is really looking for a dictionary definition - see the Reservoir link in Axial_piston_pump for an example - what should you do with it? Remove it entirely? Replace it with a Wiktionary link? Add a whole new Wikipedia page for the definition? Hints or suggestions welcome!

That's a good question. I would look to similar articles (for instance, in the same category) to see if they mention anything about reservoirs in hydraulic pumps. I checked the Wiktionary link and it looks like it covers this type of reservoir, so you can replace it with a Wiktionary link (e.g. Reservoir). If there's a need for an article about hydraulic reservoirs, someone can add an article later. I'm not fully convinced that the article on axial piston pumps actually needs a link to "reservoir", but it wouldn't hurt, either. --Elkman 15:20, 13 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Notification: changes to "Mark my edits as minor by default" preference[edit]

Hello there. This is an automated message to tell you about the gradual phasing out of the preference entitled "Mark all edits minor by default", which you currently have (or very recently had) enabled.

On 13 March 2011, this preference was hidden from the user preferences screen as part of efforts to prevent its accidental misuse (consensus discussion). This had the effect of locking users in to their existing preference, which, in your case, was true. To complete the process, your preference will automatically be changed to false in the next few days. This does not require any intervention on your part and you will still be able to manually mark your edits as being 'minor'. The only thing that's changed is that you will no longer have them marked as minor by default.

For established users such as yourself there is a workaround available involving custom JavaScript. If you are familiar with the contents of WP:MINOR, and believe that it is still beneficial to the encyclopedia to have all your edits marked as such by default, then this discussion will give you the details you need to continue with this functionality indefinitely.
