Vanity articles[edit]

Please don't create articles about yourself or your friends. We're building an encyclopedia here, and it's very unlikely that your article fits in with that. Creating such articles also makes work for others as we rush to delete them. The Wikipedia policy on vanity articles can be reviewed here and here and the reason your article was deleted can be reviewed here. If you need any more information about this, please visit this page. Thanks.➨ REDVERS 18:21, 3 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Mick Napier[edit]

Thanks for your message. It is the duty of the writer of an article to both assert and prove the notability of the subject of the article in the article itself. Articles that do not are referred for deletion; articles that are newly created and don't assert and prove notability are speedy deleted. If we did not do this, within 24 hours we would gain over a thousand articles about mothers, teachers, neighbours, dogs, friends, meter readers, meter maids, street sweepers, shop assistants, improvisational comedians, floor polishers, painters and decorators, clerks, nurses, and window cleaners. As Wikipedia is an encyclopedia, there is no need for us to provide cost-free, advertising-free web hosting space paid for by generous donators in order to note the existence of individual people who, no matter how important they are on a microscale, have failed to make an impact on the wider world that would make them worth recording in an encyclopedia.

If you are looking for a service of this type, rather than trying an encyclopedia, perhaps MySpace would be a better option?

However, in this case I am happy to provide you with the text of your deleted article. It read, in full:

Mick Napier is the Artistic Director of Annoyance Productions and the director of the Second City mainstage.

and was nominated for deletion on the basis that the article was CSD-A7 - an article about a non-notable person and CSD-A3 - an article with little or no context.

If you would like to contribute articles that are about notable subjects, that assert and prove the notability of the subject, and that consist of more than one sentence, here is Wikipedia's welcome message with some really helpful links that explain what Wikipedia is, what Wikipedia is not and what makes a good article.
