Kansas Interstate shields

Are you sure the federal standard is to use larger numbers like that? The shield templates at WP:USRD/S/T use small numbers and that's what I use to make my shields. Can you give me the link to the MUTCD page on state-name Interstate shields?-Jeff (talk) 02:02, 18 July 2008 (UTC)

If Kansas doesn't have a state document (or doesn't give access to it), then I need to use the Federal standard. If the new standard is to use larger numbers, then I need to see the specification that says so, so I know the right size to make them.-Jeff (talk) 03:09, 18 July 2008 (UTC)

If Scott is saying one thing and Ltljltlj is saying something else, then that makes it a dispute. In that case, I don't want to change something related to it until there's an agreement on what type of shields are correct. However, I did create some templates and uploaded them to Commons:Category:Highway shield templates, so other editors can create state-name shields with larger numbers like Ltljltlj makes.-Jeff (talk) 04:57, 18 July 2008 (UTC)

Hi Freewayguy-

I think you're in the right and supported by the sources, but be careful not to violate the 3 revert rule (in fact or spirit) at red giant. Nothing on Wikipedia is urgent enough to get into an edit war. -Alex (ASHill | talk | contribs) 05:07, 18 July 2008 (UTC)

Thanks for noticing, thats what I'm been saying. This does not matter what the book or science textbook says, this matters what the source we have on line. nothing is certain about Venus, Earth, or Mars fate. And if Earth survive over sun's white dwarf, then Venus will probably survive. This all matter over sun's exansion-this range any place between 1 and 1.75 AU. If they get as far as close enough to Mars orbit, then Mars have chance to be swallow up too. That user have to keep in mind, onlyonline source counts, not science textbooks, or book magazine.--Freewayguy Call? Fish 18:21, 18 July 2008 (UTC)

"Only online source counts, not science textbooks, or book[s or] magazine[s]."
No, no, no! In fact, published sources like books, magazines, or journal articles are often (usually?) preferable to purely online sources. See WP:Reliable sources. In this case, the edits are totally unsourced, so I think your reversions are well justified, and I make the same reversions. Also remember that even reverting unsourced changes doesn't exempt any editor from abiding by the 3 revert rule; there are plenty of other editors to help reverting the single editor's edits. Moreover, not reverting too often yourself makes it more clear that the current version is the consensus version, not just an edit war between two users. -Alex (ASHill | talk | contribs) 18:55, 18 July 2008 (UTC)

Interstate shield specification

With regard to the Interstate shield, the 2003 MUTCD says that the word "Interstate" which is in the red part of the shield is to be in Series E text on three-digit shields. This is shown on the M1-1 sign diagram in the Standard Highway Signs book. Each of the numbers in Column "L" is followed by a letter; this is the series (width) that the text is to be written in. For two digit signs, "Interstate" should be in Series C, while on three digit signs the text should be in Series E. Ltljltlj's shields have been using Series C for both 2 and 3 digit signs.

Note this is only the word "Interstate" in the red part of the shield. Ltljltlj's shields have the correct series for the numbers. —Scott5114 [EXACT CHANGE ONLY] 22:35, 18 July 2008 (UTC)

Even though the MUTCD says that they use Series E for "Interstate" on 3-digit shields, I go by what I see by photos and specs. I am currently making shields with all different fonts (ex: an I-385 shield with Series B numbers, one with Series C, D, and even E. The MUTCD is actually the official specs, but the only time I actually see E for "Interstate" is on 3-digit Ohio shields. --Ltljltlj (talk) 19:47, 19 July 2008 (UTC)

Thanks for answering my questions Ltljltlj. Scott becamse an admin and he's a little busy.--Freewayguy Call? Fish 17:50, 20 July 2008 (UTC)

Series font

Series B
Series C
Series D
Series E
Series F
As I said, the word "Interstate" needs to be in Series E on three-digit shields, but Ltljltlj has been using Series C on the three digit shields. Series C is right on two digit shields, though. The blue part of the shield is OK as far as I can tell. —Scott5114 [EXACT CHANGE ONLY] 01:20, 19 July 2008 (UTC)
Well, Texas is probably belief to use series C. This is why we kept Image:Interstate 635 (Texas).svg. Ohter states probably now use E series. Kansas state shield is yellow background, and black text. Thier state highway probably use Series C, then interstates must too. I'll check Kasnas state hgihway drawing.--Freewayguy Call? Fish 02:30, 19 July 2008 (UTC)

Re: 75.47.xx.....

It seems as if you two have a bit of a spat between each other frequently. The problem with the IP is that he frequently changes IP addresses (which is an automatic thing, he has no control over it), so even if we block him, the IP will change and the block won't be in effect anymore. And any messages I send him won't be seen by him because of this also. Furthermore, I'm not very active at Commons, all I do there is upload images. I'm not the best user to deal with this (I'm not a very good mediator, unfortunately), so try getting a more experienced user's help. Regards, CL — 05:16, 19 July 2008 (UTC)

  • I know CountyLemonade, he always changes IP, when he's block he evades blocks. Its toughto fight over his 3RR.Anyways.--Freewayguy Call? Fish 17:48, 20 July 2008 (UTC)

New York shields

I used the {{rename}} template at the commons to request that the images be moved to their new names. It might take a while for them to be moved, but they will be moved sooner or later.-Jeff (talk) 19:26, 22 July 2008 (UTC)

I know the shields has been made a long time ago. I didn't make it nor ask it. After the file been name the old one have to be delete. {{duplicate}}.--Freewayguy Call? Fish 19:49, 22 July 2008 (UTC)

I don't know how long it takes for them to be moved. Commons doesn't have a move button at the top of the page like Wikipedia does and it also doesn't have a requested moves page, so using that template may take a while, but it's the only easy way to move that many images.-Jeff (talk) 01:50, 23 July 2008 (UTC)
I know Commons does not have a move button. I wish it does. I never have expierence to move files in commons. The only thing is copy image so it actually duplicates.--Freewayguy Call? Fish 02:02, 23 July 2008 (UTC)
My computer is too slow so I've decided to stop taking shield requests until I get my new computer in August. Since you asked me to copy the shields before I stopped taking requests I'll copy them, but I'll have to do it on another computer so I can't do it right away. If you don't want to wait a day or two, ask someone else to do it, but let me know if someone else is doing it.-Jeff (talk) 02:44, 24 July 2008 (UTC)
In early August. The email I got said it will be sent August 1 (this Friday), so it should get to me sometime next week. I did make a request to have the shields moved so you wouldn't have to wait, I don't know what happened to that though.-Jeff (talk) 19:00, 28 July 2008 (UTC)

Red giant

Hi-

Thanks for adding the citation for the 2.57 solar mass figure as the maximum mass star that will undergo a helium flash at red giant (diff). However, the source was a) a dead link (which I fixed) and b) made no mention of any mass in that context, and certainly didn't have the number 2.57. Do you know of a source which quotes that number? If so, it would be great. —Alex (ASHill | talk | contribs) 15:01, 24 July 2008 (UTC)

Then how you get 2.57 solar masses. My old hobby was astronomy, however I'm not so good with physics or chemistry. The only thing I know is what will happen to those planets when sun gets old. All stars have lives, blue giant puff up to supergiant and scarlet dwarf just fade into white dwarf.--Freewayguy Call? Fish 16:23, 24 July 2008 (UTC)

I don't know how you people get 2.57 solar mass, I only know the diameter, the sun being one in like 6 or 7 billion years will be like 100 to 250 times, ranges close to Earth orbit and possibly Mars orbit. Anyways I'm somewhat good with stars, or its life cycle, however I know stuff about planets in our solar system better.--Freewayguy Call? Fish 16:27, 24 July 2008 (UTC)

OK; all I know is that that's the number that was in the article. I added a [citation needed] tag yesterday, and you replaced the tag with a reference, so I thought you might know. No worries; I'll try to track down a ref or delete the number. —Alex (ASHill | talk | contribs) 16:29, 24 July 2008 (UTC)

Interstate shields again

That Texas interstate shield is based on the USDOT MUTCD, not any TxDOT MUTCD. I believe TxDOT may have their state documents online somewhere, though.

While I'm commenting here, could I ask why you're doing edits like this? I know Infobox Interstate/Intrastate is deprecated, but that doesn't mean you have to make special edits just to change them over. (Same goes for {{jct}}: there's really nothing wrong with having junctions written out by hand.) I mean, sure you can convert them while you're doing something else to the article, but taking time to specifically do that isn't really helpful, since they display the same to the reader anyway. —Scott5114 [EXACT CHANGE ONLY] 06:25, 26 July 2008 (UTC)

  • Somebody else has been switching infoboxes. I am beign wondering why that user have done these changes to many California articles like Golden State Frwy, i-605, and i-280 from what I've notice. USDOT the blue part to me actually uses E Series.--Freewayguy Call? Fish 18:18, 26 July 2008 (UTC)
  • Some guy have done this to Nevada interstates too I've notice. He say NE2 has point out interstate/intrastate is no longer neccessairly.--Freewayguy Call? Fish 18:21, 26 July 2008 (UTC)
If some guy jumped off a bridge, would you follow him? Interstate/intrastate may not be necessary anymore, but it still works; there's no reason to change from one to the other. The relevant phrase here is "If it isn't broken, don't fix it." —Scott5114 [EXACT CHANGE ONLY] 06:28, 27 July 2008 (UTC)
  • If somebody tell me to do those non-sense things i don't do it. Nothing is wrong with changing it; I just can't find anything else to change. My english is still rusty, so writing is tough for me. And vesdes I don't like books, so I'm limit to vocab. I just pick up Highway systms, since I live in Orange County, i'm perfessional level in Los Angeles-Orange County Highway System.

And Scott; i have to say you might been wrong by MUTCD uses C series in blue field of itnerstates. i-635 TX.svg might be clsoer to today or emtric ones. The C Series in blue field might be middle version from what I've check from MUTCD.--Freewayguy Call? Fish 20:19, 27 July 2008 (UTC)

Question re. speedy delete of article

Hi. I'm not sure what you wanted by tagging this article for speedy deletion. Did you want Interstate 495 (New York) to be moved to Interstate 495 and State Route 495 (New York)? Could you clarify and explain your reasoning? Thanks. Okiefromokla questions? 16:51, 28 July 2008 (UTC)

No. I don't want Interstate 495 move to Interstate 495 and State Route 495 (New York). Just when I merge NY 495 to I-495 I don't know why I try to move it. Interstate 495 and State Route 495 New York is too long of name convention. I don't think I-495 should be move, and I have never been to new York.--Freewayguy Call? Fish 16:56, 28 July 2008 (UTC)
Ok. But you tagged it with {{db-move}} earlier today. Was that a mistake? Okiefromokla questions? 16:59, 28 July 2008 (UTC)
I don't think so. This was a mistake move I made earlier.--Freewayguy Call? Fish 17:18, 28 July 2008 (UTC)

Re:Interstate shields

Sorry Freewayguy, I didn't notice your message at first; thanks for the reminder. Anyway, I'll move those shields, but not now. At the moment, I'm on a very slow computer so I can't do much except edit pages. Once I do get on a computer of better speed, I'll go ahead and move them. However, if you want your request to be expedited in a more timely manner, try asking someone else. If you can't get anyone else to do so, I'll move them. CL — 21:18, 28 July 2008 (UTC)

  • Hello County Lemonade, unfortunately, I don't know how to uplaod image at all, but modifing, and those shields was not uplaod or ask by me. They was made a while ago, by users artistics. I think the naming conventional I-00 (ST).svg is suitable.--Freewayguy Call? Fish 21:37, 28 July 2008 (UTC)
