Fred - the information that was listed under Crimes was incredibly outdated. If you would like to get your information correct, please contact Jerry Garner, Chief of Police here in Greeley. We have "never" had 6 murders here in Greeley in a year. In fact the stats that ARE correct and verifiable via our Chief are as follows: 2006 - 2 murders 2007 - 4 murders 2008 - 4 murders 2009 - 3 murders 2010 - 2 murders 2011 - 1 murder

Stats directly from our police department. I could go on. If Wikipedia is of ANY use for people who are looking to move into our area, the FACTS should be presented. The information and link I gave you were FACTUAL and VERIFIABLE, what is currently online is not even close.

Please clarify this statement; are there regulations as it pertains to scholarships, teacher-hiring, etc, already in use? You might indicated that JP Morgan entered into trades as part of its hedging strategy. They have gone on record calling these trades hedges that did not work. Also indicate the department where these losses occurred etc....

For example, trading losses occurred at JPM Chief Investment Office, located in London, England. This office was run by Ina Drew who has since left the firm. A series of derivative transactions involving credit default swaps were entered into as part of the bank's hedging strategy. Trader Bruno Iksil, nicknamed the London Whale had accumulated significant sized positions in the market.

In May, estimated trading loss of $2 billion were announced by JP Morgan and size of actual loss estimates continue to grow.

Regarding lax regulatory oversight. I would reference the above NY Times article that came out on Saturday, May 26th.

Fred - I like your edits, keep 'em coming. Also I believe you are absolute lead steer on the whole market manipulation facet of this. Last time I looked both SEC and CFTC were to survey markets on a near-real-time basis (both have large internal surveillance units costing the taxpayer plenty to do this) and spot manipulation. Free markets are not to be viciously manipulated for giggles and profits. How can you have a frikin' Whale floundering around and so many hedgies on the street knowing that market manipulation was going on and not have the dashboard lights light up at both SEC/CFTC surveillance units blinking red? From there is it that hard to find out who is doing it? Let's see, who exactly is keeping the markets "above board"? Oh in the SWAPS area no one??? Kinda has a bit of a "taint" smell that my auditor nose perks up to. Perhaps all O.K. but the more I read what you write the more I smell possible manipulation of markets. Are we talking RICO? FBI? When big whales at Global SIFIs BDs manipulate markets the average investor pays the vig. Even the larger hedge fund have to pay their proportionally larger share of this "slippage". banking.senate.org - overseers of SEC & CFTC re banking seem totally asleep to this, (or working the back field, also sec/cftc reports to banking.senate FBI (RICO) reports to justice). Also where are the investigative journalists? Would it be so hard for those guys to have a jr staffer call around some hedge funds operating in this "sliver market" of swaps, and ask some questions, ask for who might know? European sovereign-debt crisis

Hi,

I've been reading with interest your input there. I'm wondering if Iceland's experience in 2008 has any relevance. The Iceland government agreed to pay massive amounts of money to the UK and the Netherlands to compensate for money lost in the failure of that country's private banks. But this was overturned in a referendum by the Icelandic people, and as far as I know, Iceland never repaid and went their own way. And as I understand it, Iceland is doing ok now (although the article on Iceland isn't clear). I thought by defaulting, Iceland pretty much gave up the change to join the EU. They are not in the Eurozone, so play no role in the crisis. They seem to be doing quite well, but their name is mud in international banking; actually they were in consumer banking where public confidence is vital. I think they are probably out of that business for good; tourism and fishing from now on... This might be an option for Greece, in fact, quite a good option. Isn't the name of international banking mud? If these about-to-go-under countries don't greatly modify their practices (as Iceland apparently did), what ultimate good will bailouts do? And is all this bail outing even possible? Wasn't Ireland in a similar position as Iceland a few years ago and took a bailout? And aren't they in a worsening situation now? (Or am I wrong?) International trade requires international banking, difficult business even if everyone is cautious and honest, neither of which Iceland was. Iceland took deposits from the general public, a relatively simple business if the acquired money is loaned conservatively. I think it may have attracted loans by offering higher than usual interest which set them on the search for increased returns, a risky business best engaged in by experienced hedge fund managers rather than commercial banks. Iceland modified its practices because its banks were forced into bankruptcy, reforms came later. Unless something is done, all this bailing out is not possible because the bailouts are actually nothing but loans, although at lower interest; but which, being from other banks, must eventually be paid in some way; if only in greatly reduced ability to borrow internationally. Ireland is trying austerity. Bottom line, poor investments, of whatever nature, don't return enough to be viable. Combined with vested interests with bargaining power such as landlords, banks, and civil servants any country will eventually go broke. A fixed outgo and a diminishing income is a crisis. Didn't banks in the US do the same thing—but were bailed out by the taxpayer? Then, recently a bailed out bank admitted losing $2 billion in risky business? I just heard on the radio that one third of the homes in my US metropolitan area (2.5 million people) are in one step or another of foreclosure and that most Americans lost 40% of their net worth in the last few years. Grandmothers having to work as waitresses etc. (This was all phony money - the "bubble" - but I read that in some countries such as Russia, Switzerland, Iran, China, Turkey, Austria(?), Venezuala(?), others, house prices are sky high.) Seems like some kind of massive readjustment is in order. The WHO just announced that diesel fumes are carcinogenic. And diesel fuel is one of the "alternative fuels" the US is betting the farm on. I was saddened to learn that I've been target of an ANI discussion which's been closed so fast that I didn't get to react to it at all (the last time before I've checked things on WP were before I went to watch an evening move, and when I came back the discussion was already WAY in progress). I'd like to reiterate on the fact that a banned Wikipedia editor's harassing me. For a while it was fun, but now it's starting to be much more annoying. And it's this editor who I've called a nationalist troll, because his only actions on WP consist of removing Hungarian place names from various articles (or replacing them with non-Hungarian names) AND harassing me. I've been harassed by him first via talk page posts ([1], [2] and [3]), then he went on to create a sock with the sole purpose of my harassment (User:CoolKoon jebe svoji matku=CoolKoon's fucking his mother).
Since you were so keen on suggesting a block for calling a harasser a "nationalist troll", tell me: have you ever been harassed by anyone? Online or offline? Have you had somebody stalk you on Wikipedia and report you for every single mistake you make? Also, have you seen your name in a harassment account (coupled with an expletive) that's been created for the sole purpose of your harassment? Have you managed to keep your cool after being reported to ANI/ArbCom/Jimbo/anywhere else the second time within a single week (or so)? Because I have a REALLY hard time keeping this user at bay. Wikinfo

I think that Wikinfo does not display because of GZIP compression enabled. Try comment out in LocalSettings.php something like:

1RR violation by User:Philip Cross

I am not sure if this is correct or if my understanding of the rules are wrong but User:Philip Cross has been editing on the Jonathan Cook [ http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Jonathan_Cook&diff=514901836&oldid=514901080 ] page even though it has a 1RR rule there. He was informed earlier on today about the 1RR rule on that page but has done another 3 edits there in the last 25 minutes. I have told him to self revert it but would like your advise if he has broken the rules here or not. David Jay Brown

I was hoping you could take a look at what's going on with this article. I have been trying to satisfy the demands for citations that have led to Qworty deleting this entire article, then whole sections when it was returned by another editor. My work has been attacked as COI due to appearances at an event I am involved in, appearances that took place over ten years ago. This editor, IMO, refuses to select items and tag them as needing citations, but deletes whole sections or even whole articles including perfectly acceptable bibliographies. Dear Fred,

I have a problem with a couple of editors. It's the same old thing, except with new players. An article I edited was severely cut up, then eliminated entirely. I've been trying to reinstate some of the data with 3rd party citations, but I am being personally attacked with accusations of COI, in this case because the subject of the article appeared at the event I work on, the Starwood Festival, over ten years ago. I did include citations for four lecture venues this professional speaker appeared at, and one was for this festival, but ALL edits I have made including bibliography, filmography, and a lot of other data is being deleted simply because I am the person posting it. On top of this, I am being warned that ALL edits to other articles like Starwood Festival are COI, something that was settled long ago (as I'm sure you recall), and they have threatened to delete the entire articles. Qworty has already begun chopping up both this article and the [[Association for Consciousness Exploration] article. These are very aggressive edits, and they are accompanied by a suggestion to merge them. The articles are absolutely being gutted. Pete K on anthroposophy/Waldorf pages

The template forbidding Pete K to edit the Waldorf/anthroposophy articles was removed from the Talk:Waldorf education page (and perhaps other pages) by another editor: see User_talk:Alexbrn#Notification_about_PeteK_on_several_articles. Pete K now may be editing again under an IP address, 76.170.168.122. I cannot prove it is the same person, but it is the same behavior, including addressing me (and other editors) by personal names not available through WP, rather than by WP user names. Should we restore the template? What else can be done?

There is confusion over what constitutes a reliable source for the Waldorf education/anthroposophy related pages. Could you help clarify the situation? For example, there is a source: Carlo Willmann, Waldorfpädogogik, Kölner Veröffentlichungen zur Religionsgeschichte, v. 27. Böhlau Verlag, ISBN 3-412-16700-2. The press is a highly regarded academic press, the book one of a highly regarded series (Cologne Publications on the History of Religion). The author is a Catholic theologian who has been connected with Waldorf schools in various ways.

Is this:

1. a reliable source due to the quality of the peer-reviewed publication, or
2. an unreliable source because the author has connections to Waldorf education?

I think it was a bad idea to copy articles directly from Wikipedia to Wikinfo. It is now difficult to know which articles should be respected because they were written by a Wikinfo editor, and which we should feel free to overwrite because they were indiscriminately copied from Wikipedia. WikiProject assessment tags for talk pages

Thank you for your recent articles, including Oil industry in Poland. When you create a new article, can you add the WikiProject assessment templates to the talk of that article? See the talk page of the article I mentioned for an example of what I mean. Usually it is very simple, you just add something like {{WikiProject Keyword}} to the article's talk, with keyword replaced by the associated WikiProject (ex. if it's a biography article, you would use WikiProject Biography; if it's a United States article, you would use WikiProject United States, and so on). You do not have to rate the article if you do not want to, others will do it eventually. Those templates are very useful, as they bring the articles to a WikiProject attention, and allow them to start tracking the articles through Wikipedia:Article alerts and other tools. This can help you too, as the WikiProject members will often defend your work from deletion and try to improve it further. Feel free to ask me any questions if you'd like more information. Canvassing Request: Brahma Kumaris

Good morning Fred, I'm posting here because there is currently a bit of a camped dispute on the Brahma Kumaris page. I found your name in the probation/Arbitration post at the top of the article talk page. I basically looked at all the arbcom editor contrib's and selected you because you had been on Wiki the longest. In my view the page needs a very experienced eye to identify what is happening. One camp repeatedly states the article is 'highly accurate and well referenced' and that editors seeking to make changes have a 'hive mind' and are all BK adherents aspiring to 'whitewash' the page into an advertisement for their cult/religion, and they aren't fit to be on Wiki. The other camp states the first camp belongs to and advocacy group linked to a highly critical website and is simply trying to block all editing as camp one has managed to create a highly POV laden account of the BK's, cherry picked and distorted around the editors own agenda/emotional involvement in the topic. I hope all involved will consider this a fair summary. Another admin suggested arbcom input. At least in my view the page would really benefit from extra eyes, neutral eyes, and someone who has probably seen nearly 'all the tricks in the book'. Any time you have to support the creation of an encyclopedic article would be hugely appreciated. Regards Danh108 (talk) 19:53, 26 September 2013 (UTC)

Knowing you are not currently on ArbCom, and thus maybe not in a position to impose discretionary sanctions on the topic, as seems to be maybe indicated in the existing ruling as possible, I would welcome any input you might have regarding how the existing ruling might be used to perhaps allow for the imposition of discretionary sanctions on the topic, and, if there is any hope of getting additional editors involved through ArbCom on the topic, I think that would be potentially very useful as well. You have no idea how good it feels to see someone else saying something like that around here, believe me. But, as a former arb, I think you might know how if at all the existing probation imposed on ArbCom on the article/topic as per the talk page template might be usable to maybe help the content, like maybe whether there might be any basis to apply discretionary sanctions based on the existing probation (if that's possible), or maybe in some other way be used to draw more eyes and maybe better management of problematic behavior on the article/topic. We've included a retrospective on the changes and progress TWL has seen over the last year, the results of the survey TWL participants completed in December, some of our plans for the future, a second interview with a Wiki Love Libraries coordinator, and more. The Wikipedia Library completed the first 6 months of its Individual Engagement grant last week. Here's where we are and what we've done:

Increased access to sources: 1500 editors signed up for 3700 free accounts, individually worth over $500,000, with usage increases of 400-600%

Deep networking: Built relationships with Credo, HighBeam, Questia, JSTOR, Cochrane, LexisNexis, EBSCO, New York Times, and OCLC

New pilot projects: Started the Wikipedia Visiting Scholar project to empower university-affiliated Wikipedia researchers

Developed community: Created portal connecting 250 newsletter recipients, 30 library members, 3 volunteer coordinators, and 2 part-time contractors

Tech scoped: Spec'd out a reference tool for linking to full-text sources and established a basis for OAuth integration

Broad outreach: Wrote a feature article for Library Journal's The Digital Shift; presenting at the American Library Association annual meeting

Huizhou University - Again

Hi Fred Bauder, over a year ago you semi-locked down the Huizhou University page to stop an edit war. Just last month, pretty much as soon as the ban was lifted, the user from last year returned to re-add the excised biased material. He's already put it back twice now. I'd appreciate it if you could watch the page so as to confirm what I'm saying, and to help prevent another edit war. Thanks

New attention disorder

Hi Fred! I was reading the New York Times (Schwarz, Alan, [http://www.nytimes.com/2014/04/12/health/idea-of-new-attention-disorder-spurs-research-and-debate.html Idea of New Attention Disorder Spurs Research, and Debate] April 11, 2014) this morning and came across an interesting tidbit at the end. When I looked at that page's history with edits by a User:RusselBarkley, following that link I noted that you had already informed that editor of this NYT article. I'm an admin at Wikimedia Commons and not entirely up on the Wikipedia conflict of interest details. The two projects can be quite different! But it certainly seemed fuzzy to me. Their point in using this was to question the continued value of a site where many users perceive it as a closed network (an "old boys club") where prevailing views of the (small cadre of continuous editors of which you are clearly one) people in charge determine the content that is allowed on Wikipedia.

Instead of just being like "that's Wikipedia" I wanted to ask you for your side of this because, as you can see, the email is pretty damning with respect to your position that a fundamental pillar of Wikipedia should be ignored because you "like the guy".

We have a problem with liberal bias. I don't, but we do. My suggestion was to contact Michael Moore and tell him we would redirect the article on Michael Moore to the article on clown unless he removed the link from the main page of his website. I don't think I can access the article in question on MIT Tech Review, so I can't say much more as I'm unsure about the context. However, my basic position is that we should do more rather than less in the case of abuses of this nature. A prominent liberal voice should not be able to trade on our bias. Upon reflection, I think the point of the mailing list post was that our policy should reflect rather than differ from our practice. Our practice incorporates status differences; thus, a high status person or organization such as Michael Moore is given more leeway. Assignment of status to some extent reflects the bias of influential editors. There is no one bias but a set of biases which reflect the biases of influential sets of editors. For example, since 50% of American doctors use Wikipedia from time to time and about 5% edit there is a strong evidence-based medical bias. In the same vein, there is a bias towards climate science. Ahhh, so it's more like saying that mainstream science should be given more weight than flighty theories that may be right, but haven't been rigorously tested? As such, the status of say the theory of gravity would gain more traction in a debate/edit dispute than any one novel theory for a new type of gravity? I forget what pillar that is, undue weight? But thank you for getting back with me.

Fred, by merging the pages together, it creates an image that the firm and the CEO share a like mind. Ronn Torossian's political views and writing are his own, while the firm has many clients, about 110 employees, and all have their own identities and political views and such. In tying them as was done, it wrongly sends a message that the firm 5W Public Relations is a politically or ideologically charged firm, and that just isn't true. It's clients cut across a very broad spectrum of businesses and consumer products that have no interest in politics, if you will. It just appears that the merge of these pieces can inadvertently impact the way the firm is considered and that is no longer a neutral position for Wikipedia. I would suggest merging them the other way, if merging is the ultimate decision in the first place. Your thoughts would be appreciated. Thank you

Can you suggest a route for appeal? It would appear that those of mind interested in merging the pieces as was done, or maintaining the more sensational aspects of the CEO as the best examples of objectivity here, are more active and willing to engage in edits and debate that those who may believe that this is not an encyclopedic article as it is now. I looked over the list of potential sources you posted. Didn't check them all out, but most of them. They are almost entirely sources that had been previously posted by the sockpuppet Babasalichai. About half of them are dead links. Almost all the others are press releases issued by 5WPR. Fred, I am not sure your addition of the Aish Torah incident accurately reflects Goldberg's remarks. When Goldberg wrote that Torossian supports the "lunatic fringe" of Israeli politics, he was not referring specifically to Aish Torah, but to his association with Beny Elon, his remark about "killing a thousand Arabs" for every Jew killed (see lengthy quote) and so on.
