Help with genre warrior?[edit]

Hi. I'm having trouble communicating with an IP over his genre changes to Are You Experienced. He continues to remove my messages to him ([1]), claiming harassment, and refuses to comment on the content, instead slighting me in his edit summaries. Could you help in any way? Dan56 (talk) 18:46, 26 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]

It doesn't matter what you or I believe the article is suppose to be in a Netrual point of view WP:NPOV removing a REILABLE source is considered disruptive because of your own personal belief of what the genre should be. Also calling someone a genre warrior just because they disagree with what you think is a very infantile approach to solving a problem.--75.65.123.86 (talk) 18:52, 26 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]

The allmusic sidebar, however is listed as a source to avoid in these guidelines. This has apparantly been listed as a result of discussions regarding contradictions with reviews (see the Sly & Robbie example given). I guess this means that not all of the content on allmusic is reliable although im sure a clear distinction can be made between the sidebar actual review. If you think that the sidebar is reliable thats something to be brought up with the wikiproject but as no mention of 'acid rock' and 'blues rock' is mentioned in the actual review then this doesn't act as a reliable source for it. FM talk to me | show contributions ]  19:15, 26 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]

You don't get what i'm talking about do you?? It is listed as an Acid rock album here:http://www.allmusic.com/style/acid-rock-ma0000012327 Is that still unreliable for you?? and several other sources beside allmusic have it listed as blues rock. I do not know why you chose to pick sides, but wikipedia agrees with me that allmusic is reliable. also tell me where you see hard rock at in the review for "Are you experienced?"--75.65.123.86 (talk) 20:03, 26 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Erm can you state where it says that allmusic is a reliable source? Because those links to the 'sources to avoid' have been pointed out to you countless times and say that the sidebar categorisation for allmusic should be avoided. If you have seen blues rock in any other sources link to them instead. FM talk to me | show contributions ]  20:50, 26 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]

It says so here:http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:WikiProject_Albums/Sources all genres included. Now I will revert Are you experienced back to my version once I have waited 24 hours from my first revert.--75.65.123.86 (talk) 20:59, 26 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]

You're misinterpreting the genre column at Wikipedia:WikiProject Albums/Sources. The column lists the genres those websites specialize in and kind of albums they tend to review (example from the table: Rock Hard (magazine) and "Heavy metal"). Dan56 (talk) 21:11, 26 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]
I know that's why allmusic and all genres from that site are listed as a source. Your personal opinion on what the genre is the only thing that is stopping it from being added. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 75.65.123.86 (talk) 21:14, 26 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Disambiguation link notification for April 7[edit]

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. Wikipedia appreciates your help. We noticed though that when you edited Stop Crying Your Heart Out, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page The Telegraph (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver). Such links are almost always unintended, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of "Did you mean..." article titles. Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.

Sirah (rapper)[edit]

Please reconsider your recent edit to Sirah (rapper). In some musical genres, possibly including hip-hop, being "white" is encyclopedic. davidwr/(talk)/(contribs)/(e-mail) 19:54, 13 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]

How is it 'encyclopedic' to include the subjects ethnicity (and perhaps gender too) in the first sentence of the article? FM talk to me | show contributions ]  10:13, 20 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]
I think the article on Barack Obama is a good example of when a person's ethnicity is encyclopedic enough to be in the first sentence. I am not a subject-matter expert on contemporary (2013) Hip-Hop, but if you were a white 1980s Rap artist, your ethnicity would be encyclopedic. I suspect the same is true for modern Hip-Hop. I'm just asking you to reconsider. Unlike the article on the President, leaving it out of this article won't be a big deal. The article on Vanilla Ice, who was "one of the earliest white rappers to attain major success" doesn't mention his race until halfway through the article, but then again, his picture at the top of the article clearly indicates his race. Speaking of pictures, if you have any freely-licensed photos (especially one you took which you can release under a free license) of this artist, consider uploading it to the Wikimedia Commons and putting it in the "Infobox musical artist" template on the page about her. davidwr/(talk)/(contribs)/(e-mail) 15:50, 20 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]
I guess I see your point, but in contemporary Hip-Hop, there are plenty of artists from differing ethnic minorities. Even if there wasn't such a mix, it probably shouldn't be included unless being of that ethnic group was a significantly famous trait of that specific artist, something that probably doesn't apply to Sirah. I will also remove the 'female' from the lead sentence as the same goes for that too. FM talk to me | show contributions ]  17:01, 20 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Fair enough. To be honest, I wasn't sure if you were a person familiar with the genre or an editor who just didn't like ethnicity mentioned in the 1st sentence of biographical articles and who was deleting such references any time he encountered them. I'm glad to know you are the former and appreciate your expertise and understanding. davidwr/(talk)/(contribs)/(e-mail) 17:14, 20 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Wikidata[edit]

Just noticed the Portuguese version of Sirah (rapper); how do I create a Wikidata entry for it?--Launchballer 17:54, 20 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]

(butting in here) I think it's handled automatically once two articles on different wikis have inter-wiki links pointing to each other. Once it's done, a bot will remove the inter-wiki links. At least that's what happened to me recently when I added interwiki links between a Chinese article and an English article about a medical school in China. See Help:Interwiki linking for details. davidwr/(talk)/(contribs)/(e-mail) 19:06, 20 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Changes to SuggestBot's suggestions[edit]

We have changed the number of suggested articles and which categories they are selected from. The number of stubs has been greatly reduced, the number of articles needing sources doubled, and two new categories added (orphans and unencyclopaedic articles). We have also modified the layout of the suggestions and added sortable columns with various types of information about each article. The first two columns are:

Views/Day
Daily average number of views an article's had over the past 14 days.
Quality
Predicted article quality on a 1- to 3-star scale. Placing your cursor over the stars should give you a pop-up describing the article's quality (Low/Medium/High), current assessment class, and predicted assessment class.

The method we use to predict article quality also allows us to assess whether an article might need specific types of work in order to improve its quality. The work needed might not correspond to cleanup tags added to the article, since our method is not based on those. We have added five columns reflecting this work assessment, where a red X indicates improvement is needed. Placing your cursor over an X should give you a pop-up with a short description of the work needed. The five columns seek to answer the following five questions:

Content
Is more content needed?
Headings
Does this article have an appropriate section structure?
Images
Is the number of illustrative images about right?
Links
Does this article link to enough other Wikipedia articles?
Sources
For its length, is there an appropriate number of citations to sources in this article?

SuggestBot picks articles in a number of ways based on other articles you've edited, including straight text similarity, following wikilinks, and matching your editing patterns against those of other Wikipedians. WikiProject Good Articles Recruitment Centre[edit]

Hello! Now, some of you might be wondering why there is a Good article icon with a bunch of stars around (to the right). The answer? WikiProject Good articles will be launching a Recruitment Centre very soon! The centre will allow all users to be taught how to review Good article nominations by experts just like you! However, in order for the Recruitment Centre to open in the first place, we need some volunteers:
  • Recruiters: The main task of a recruiter is to teach users that have never reviewed a Good article nomination how to review one. To become a recruiter, all you have to do is meet this criteria. If we don't get at least 5-10 recruiters to start off with, the Recruitment Centre will not open. If interested, make sure you meet the criteria, read the process and add your name to the list of recruiters. (One of the great things about being a recruiter is that there is no set requirement of what must be taught and when. Instead, all the content found in the process section is a guideline of the main points that should be addressed during a recruitment session...you can also take an entire different approach if you wish!) If you think you will not have the time to recruit any users at this time but are still interested in becoming a recruiter, you can still add your name to the list of recruiters but just fill in the "Status" parameter with "Not Available".
  • Co-Director: The current Director for the centre is me (Dom497). Another user that would be willing to help with some of the tasks would be helpful. Tasks include making sure recruiters are doing what they should be (teaching!), making sure all recruitments are archived correctly, updating pages as needed, answering any questions, and distributing the feedback form. If interested, please contact me (Dom497).
  • Nominators, please read this: If you are not interested in becoming a recruiter, you can still help. In some cases a nominator may have an issue with an "inexperienced" editor (the recruitee) reviewing one of their nominations. To minimize the chances of this happening, if you are fine with a recruitee reviewing one of your nominations under the supervision of the recruiter, please add your name to the list at the bottom of this page. By adding your name to this list, chances are that your nomination will be reviewed more quickly as the recruitee will be asked to choose a nomination from the list of nominators that are OK with them reviewing the article.

If you have any questions please do not hesitate to contact me. I look forward to seeing this program bring new reviewers to the Good article community and all the positive things it will bring along.

A message will be sent out to all recruiters regarding the date when the Recruitment Centre will open when it is determined. The message will also contain some further details to clarify things that may be a bit confusing.--Dom497 (talk)
