Welcome, Flowerpotman![edit]

Hello Flowerpotman, welcome to Wikipedia! I hope you like it here and stick around. If you want, you can drop us a note at Wikipedia:New user log to introduce yourself.

Before you start doing a lot of editing, you might want to take the Tutorial. It gives a lot of basic info you'll want to get you oriented on Wikipedia, and comes highly recommended.

Here're some handy links:

  • Help:Contents is the list of all of the information you need to use Wikipedia. Wikipedia's Help desk is the best place to ask questions to which you can't find the answers. Also, a lot more good information is at Wikimedia Meta-Wiki, which is often more up-to-date (as Meta is where information that pertains to all of the different Wikimedia projects, such as editing help, is stored and modified). Meta's Help section is located at m:Help:Contents, and more information about it can be found at Wikipedia:Meta and m:Meta:About.
  • Wikipedia:How to edit a page gives editing help. Whenever you're editing a page, there'll be a link to it below the editing box and to the right of the "Save page" and "Preview" buttons, for easier access.
  • Wikipedia:Manual of Style gives formatting information.
  • Wikipedia:Policies and guidelines tell about the principles we operate on. It's important, but you don't need to read it all at once. Our five most important tenets are listed under Wikipedia:Five pillars, and there's an easier-to-read version of Wikipedia:Policies and guidelines at Wikipedia:Simplified Ruleset. Our privacy policy is at Wikipedia:Privacy policy.
  • Wikipedia:Show preview explains how to double-check your edits before saving, an important feature. This allows you to see how edits you have made will look once you save the page and give you an opportunity to correct mistakes before submitting your changes.

Remember to sign your name on talk pages by typing " ~~~ " for your username and " ~~~~ " for your username and a timestamp (which is generally preferred). The software will automatically convert this upon saving the page.

If you have any questions, please ask me on my talk page. I'll answer if I'm here. If you like, you can ask here, on your own talk page (for your own easier reference), but please let me know by posting a note on my talk page saying that you've replied.

Take care, and good wiki-ing, Snoutwood (talk) 20:56, 30 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Don't forget to subst: templates![edit]

Hi,

When using certain template tags on talk pages, don't forget to substitute with text by adding subst: to the template tag. For example, use {{subst:test}} instead of {{test}}. This reduces server load and prevents accidental blanking of the template.

Thanks! :)

List of people on stamps of Ireland[edit]

Well spotted wl edit on the List of people on stamps of Ireland. Cheers ww2censor 03:17, 15 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks. I'll admit I was quite chuffed at working that out. And finally, all that school German pays off. ;O) Flowerpotman 19:26, 15 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Seanachai[edit]

Thanks for finding "Seanachai" (a ridiculous excuse for an encyclopedia article) and suggesting a merge. I just merged it into Seanachie. Only a bit of it was worth keeping, but the bit that was kept was a valuable addition (i.e. Fleadh Cheoil and a mention of the podcast). Go raibh maith agat :O) More on your talk page. Flowerpotman 20:38, 21 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Should it perhaps be written as Seanachaí? Just wondering. Fergananim 16:20, 27 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Dundrum, August 1865[edit]

Yep, I saw the ebay thing too when I was 'researching' my one-line addition to the Dundrum, County Tipperary article! Two questions struck me:

- where did they get it from
- how would the buyer know?!

Anyway at $28 I guess they weren't taking too much risk. Regards (Sarah777 00:28, 12 February 2007 (UTC))[reply]

It came from the bit of the meteorite that went to the National History Museum in London (according to the ebay listing), and (at 0.08 grammes or whatever) it could have been a shaving off the piece from when they were examining it. Ennis - subtle vandalism[edit]

Hi Flowerpotman. I'm wondering if you'd be able to help me in preventing ongoing, subtle vandalism to the Ennis article, mainly by just putting it on your watchlist (if it's not there already) and reverting vandalism if you come across it.

Often the vandalism is pretty obvious, like this, but sometimes it's more subtle and it's not obvious even to me, such as this edit. It appears to me there is one person who is persistently trying to undermine the Ennis article by adding disinformation. Note that the vandal sometimes appears to be impersonating myself.

Before you suggest it, I have considered whether the article should be semi-protected. However, I dislike the "in-your-face" protection notice that gets slapped at the top of articles, and anyway the actual rate of vandalism is probably too low to be considered worthy of semi-protection.

Hoping you can help... cheers, A bit iffy 07:42, 12 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Good work[edit]

Just want to thank you for the great work you've done on categorizing articles. I've noticed you consistently picking up my slack when I lazily leave a {{categorize}} tag at the bottom of a page. Keep it up! -- Scientizzle 19:58, 22 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

LOL! And thanks. Actually, I have to admit that I find a bit of wiki-categorizing is soothing if I need to take my mind off what I should be doing for a few minutes. Feelings of accomplishment and all that ;O) Flowerpotman 23:02, 22 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]
