G.A.A.-club-stub[edit]

Dia dhuit Fenian Swine! A few weeks back you asked about the creation of {{G.A.A.-club-stub}}. In the end, we decided to go with {{Gaelic-sport-stub}}, which is more in line with stub naming guidelines and covers a bit more ground (it can be used for the sports as well as the individual clubs). Hope that's useful! (Maith dom mo chuid Gaeilge bhriste). Grutness...wha? 07:03, 20 September 2005 (UTC)[reply]

"British Lions" (Raar!)[edit]

A charaid Eireannach, good luck with trying to sort out the Lions page. I have already tried. The people there don't seem to think that sport and politics have ever mixed. Apart from the fact that the Lions seems to have been set up as a kind of antidote towards national teams, using an English style lion to symbolise their "unity". It seems to be an England team bulked up by the better players of Scotland, Ireland and Wales (without fair representation of those nations.

You also might want to look at these pages - Home Nations, Constituent Countries and Cornish nationalism.

Lynott[edit]

That's how it looks to you. If people can't stick you, it's not because you are Irish, it's because you are you. Stay off my talk page. ChrisRed 08:39, 8 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Well, to be honest I am sorry to hear that you feel that way. I am a bit 'Dual' as regards the Irish/English thing (coming from Irish stock myself, like most people around Liverpool/Manchester Etc.) but I personally have never held any hatred for the Irish, and never will. The only Irishmen I actively dispise are the likes of Ian Paisley, his equally-bigotted son, and the army of narrow-minded bigots that they gather around them. They call themselves 'Loyalists', but to be honest most Brits would prefer it if they were to go and be 'loyal' to somebody else!.

Bear in mind that I was a bit too close for comfort when the Warrington bomb went off, but some would argue that any town that raised a statue honouring the butcher Oliver Cromwell was probably long overdue for a bomb anyway.

I know my history as well as you do, and am well aware of Ireland's 'English problem'. I know who created the problem in the first place, and who is best to fix it (the Irish themselves).

I have been to Ireland many times and have never come across the hatred that you describe. OK, my name is Chris and I do have an Irish-sounding surname, but even when I have had 'very English' friends with me, they have never felt unwelcome either.

Now that peace has begun to break out over there at last, the British are too busy to hate the Irish...we have other fish to fry at the moment

Good night, ChrisRed 23:03, 8 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]

p.s. A disturbing thought. If Phil Lynott had been white, would he then be allowed to be Irish in your mind??.

Are you guys aware that your Irish republicans category is about to be voted for deletetion?--Jondel 12:09, 30 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for the heads-up.

Maybe you wish to have a look at this article[edit]

Hi, I noticed you edited St. Benildus College article before. I reverted it during a vandalism attack. Afterwards, it has been edited again, and I just can't understand whether or not the new edits make sense or are some kind of joke. Maybe you can check it, if you're familiar with that school... --Raistlin 23:16, 5 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Semi-automated template substitution[edit]

Wales[edit]

Finally I would like to know if Wales is a country or a province. If it is a province then the people living in it really need some kind of armed rebellion against the British because being considered a province of the U.K. and not a real country is really very very sad.

Wales is, depending on who you speak to a nation, a principality or a country. Regarding your second question see: Mudiad Amddiffyn Cymru and Free Wales Army. I concur on your third point. - FrancisTyers 20:05, 2 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Of course it's a country. We have one of the oldest languages and cultures in Europe, and a history longer and richer than most nation states. I've lived here all my life and never heard anyone refer to it as a province.

I'm a Welsh nationalist myself and would love to be independent, but certainly not by violence as it is simply dosent work - especially in todays world. It ultimately harms the cause rather than betters it and is barbaric. This was illustrated by the above mentioned groups who caused untold damage to Plaid Cymru and the nationalist movement with their silly antics - with opposition MP's quick to associate Plaid with these tiny groups even though Plaid had nothing to do with them.

Colombia[edit]

Cheers for the picture on the columbia page, nice one.

You don't have acess to the swirly union Jack picture from the live demonstration demo do yer?--Crestville 00:51, 5 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I dunno mate, I was in a room with 10,000 other fans but a month ago, and they sure as hell weren't there to see Shack. I don't think their popularity's going anywhere.--Crestville 01:15, 5 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]
I'm a teenager & I like them. The media has been quite kind to them recently I think.--Crestville 16:17, 5 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Ah, sorry mate but I've got to disagree with yer their. Be Here Now really deserved the stick it got. There were a few great songs, but it hasn't stood the test of time. Now it really does sound bloated and over-indulgent. They didn't spend enough time on it. Same goes for Shoulder of Giants which could have been great if they'd put their backs into it. That's an underratred album. For some reason, aside from the singles, Heathen Chemistry strikes me as dull. I don't know where they went wrong there. DBTT is a great album, but it's not as good as the first two. The hype has died and I doubt they'll ever be as big as they were. If they can keep making good albums like DBTT, they should go down as a great band and maintain a strong, stable fan base. As for DBTT album sales - it's not even been out a year yet.--Crestville 16:33, 5 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

A suggestion[edit]

A number of users find your username offensive. There now exists a mechanism for changing username at WP:CHU. Some concern has been expressed at your combative style, and a change of username might go some way towards addressing this. I have it on good authority that both Jimbo and Angela are uncomfortable with your username. Please do give a change to a more n eutral name your serious consideration. Just zis Guy you know? 23:19, 20 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

From your reply it would appear that you consider avoiding deliberate offence to be "PC gone mad". I am puzzled as to what possible value you can see in the use of a deliberately provocative user name. And who, if not administrators, should come and talk to you about this? I urge you to reconsider. You are aware that some find your username offensive, and that alone should be sufficient to give pause for thought, if nothing more, to any Wikipedian genuinely committed to building a great encyclopaedia. Expressing opinions is all very well - consider, though, that marching down the Garvaghy Road wearing an orange sash and a bowler hat is also expressing an opinon. Just not one which is conducive to mutual respect and co-operation. So I urge you to reconsider. Just zis Guy you know? 23:43, 20 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Seamus Heaney[edit]

Ok, it was just for the classification of writers according to their language/s in the Castillian wikipedia. You corrected what i input or sth like that in the discussion page of this writer's article.

So i can classify Seamus Heaney in: writers in English, writers in Irish and writers in Anglo-Saxon, right?

You tell me :)

Thanks

Pink Floyd[edit]

Pink Floyd are great and also fuck your Provivional IRA.Dermo69

=Fine Gael[edit]

Saw you deleted what i said about Fine Gael on the Irish ReUnification article.Well for one thing John Bruton refused to talk to John Hume for being a Nationalist and Fine Gael declared the current day republic of Ireland as descendent of the Irish Republic of 1919-1922.They did not wait until Ireland was unitedand by refusing to accept the changes of the Boundary Commision,William T.Cosgrave accepted partition. So while it may be official party policy to seek a United Ireland,Fine Gael has not actually sought it.Dermo69

I misled you.john Bruton didnt talk to John Hume for sometime because J Hume had made an agreement with Gerry Adams.Eventually he did talk to him but he was certinly not a nationalist. In fact no Fine Gael toaiseach has really been a nationalist since W.T Cosgrave. And everyone knows that Winston Churchill was not serious when he promised a united ireland. Finally i think Fine Gaewl's "anti-irish" stance is not stupid because no matter what system we have for irish it cannot be worse than the current system. It has been proven that it simply has not worked.Dermo69

Churchill was not at all serious.Given how reluctant he was to give up India,he was unlikely to give away somewhere he considered a home nation. And we should give optoonal leaving cert irish a chance rather than using a system that has not worked in 80 years. And that's been proven.Dermo69

Ok i accept that the language is in dire straits BUT by making it optional students who are good at the language can still do it but stdents who are bad at the language can choose another subject, get more points and go to college.Because they willl still have to do it for most of school and forcing them to do it for the leaving isn't going to make them any better at the subject. So optional iirish isn't harming irish.Demo69

Doesnt forcing people to speak irish alienate people.Just imagine how popular GAA would be if everyone was made play it.I agree with what you said about the gaelteachtDermo69

Redirect vote[edit]

Hiya Fenian, You might want to vote on this redirect as the article's current function is to say that part of Ireland is part of Britain (as opposed to the UK): Talk:Britain El Gringo 14:32, 25 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]
