3rd viscount monckton of brenchley[edit]

This subject has suffered from Graves' Disease, which causes ocular proptosis. Various people who may be part of a paid network of wreckers who tamper with the biogs of people who disagree with global warming have repeatedly inserted an obviously offensive photo of the subject that exploits his physical disability by making a feature of the proptosis in a ludicrous way. Please refer these people - one of them is ChrisO, who has been warned before - to the arbitration committee.

Population history of Egypt - the language issue[edit]

Hi there. I have a slight concern stemming from your comment on your edit, to the effect of work being needed on the language section. This section is only relevant to the extent that it sheds light on the population history of the people, it is not a detailed article about the languages themselves. Please discuss on the talk page. Thanks Wdford (talk) 12:16, 11 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Wdford,
Probably more details should be given to the Ancient Egyptian language itself; or at least the scripts (as I am doing now). I didn't say they weren't relevant but that would be like having a section dedicated to the Spanish language full of details about Romance and Latin languages with nothing about the Spanish itself. -- FayssalF - Wiki me up® 12:29, 11 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Also, I agree with you and that's why I am working on it trying to reduce it and keep the main points. -- FayssalF - Wiki me up® 12:36, 11 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

OK - that makes sense. Thanks for the response. Wdford (talk) 12:44, 11 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Fayssal: Thanks for protecting the article. Please do the same with Youssef Chahine. Omar Sharif had been mediated till the cows went home on its Talk page by Admin Sancho. The problem can be summarized in Admin. Sancho's statement: "Even the leap from "Sharif's parents were Lebanese", to "Sharif is of Lebanese descent" is going too far in an article about a living person." Omar Sharif and Youssef Chahine are both Egyptian citizens whose parents may have had Lebanese origins of some sort or may have been immigrants to Egypt. Sancho had laboriously and very methodically mediated Omar Sharif's article and he found no support for any Lebanese reference to be made about Omar Sharif... He made the statement above, that his parents origins could NOT be extended to him. This is the version that Sancho had ended with. We do not want to go this whole process again. --Arab Cowboy (talk) 00:19, 12 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Arab cowboy you are a disrespectful person first saying that I was nonsense, then saying Im a tribal Middle Easterner and now calling me a cow? Do you know how to have a discussion in a civil manor. I am sure the administrator will judge fairly so please do not sit here and make problems. Youssef Chahine does have Lebanese origins, this is verifiable, his father was Lebanese, his real name is Gibran Sawaya. His father was an immigrant to Egypt. And Omar Sharif real name Michael Demitri is also Lebanese by origin. His parents were Lebanese immigrants to Egypt. The only thing Egyptian about Youssef and Omar is the fact they were born in another country that is not their country of origin. His parent's origins are his origins as well. So we do not need to say his father was Lebanese but instead Youssef Chahine is of Lebanese origin. Or instead of saying Omar Sharif's father is Lebanese that Omar Sharif is of Lebanese origin. This is the truth. No Lebanese reference to be made about Omar Sharif LOL...Michael Shalhoub is clearly a Lebanese name. And Sancho did say that you should make a reference to his origins as being Lebanese. I can also point that out. Lebanese bebe (talk) 14:46, 13 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Harrassed bebe, please provide evidence with quotations from me where I said that you were nonsense and a tribal Middle Easterner. You distort my words as you distort everything about the articles you wish to discuss. The proof is up here on this page. You falsely claim that I called you a cow when there was no mention of you at all in the whole paragraph. You seem to enjoy being insulted that you are doing it to yourself! Please do not waste my time. --Arab Cowboy (talk) 06:41, 14 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I love Lebanese and I love Egyptians. In fact, I love everyone :) Incidentally, I've always thought that Omar Sharif's parents (not him, he's an Egyptian) were either Lebanese or Syrian but that has been my personal belief which has no basis since I had no sources (just hearsay). Now, what's the deal, guys? My advice (well, all admins would tell you the same story) is to look for reliable sources to back up your claims. I am directing this specifically to Lebanese bebe because the burden of proof lies with the editor who adds or restores material. You need to bring a solid reliable source. Otherwise, you better drop it.

To help you both, guys. http://omarsharif.netfirms.com/articles.htm is not a reliable source at all. According to Wikipedia:RS we only publish the opinions of reliable authors. Now, Lebanese bebe, could you please start basing your edits on real reliable sources and avoid using websites hosted for free (netfirms.com!!!) as reliable sources? You could easily back up your edits with stuff like the ones I've just found... Come on guys, don't be lazy!

  • <ref>{{cite book |last=Cooper-Chen |first=Anne |title=Global entertainment media: content, audiences, issues |series=LEA's communication series |url=http://books.google.com/books?id=gb8Bkmq5254C&pg=PA93&dq=Michel+Dimitri+Shalhoub&ei=ZFKESsHFPKXCywTI9sXaDQ#v=onepage&q=Michel%20Dimitri%20Shalhoub&f=false |year=2005 |publisher=Routledge |isbn=0-8058-5169-0 |pages=93 |quote=Hamama starred with an unknown Syrian-Lebanese Christian, Michel Dimitri Shalhoub }}</ref>
  • <ref>{{cite book |last=Darwish |first=Mustafa |title= Dream makers on the Nile: a portrait of Egyptian cinema |year=1998 |publisher=American University in Cairo Press |isbn=9-7742-4429-X |URL=http://books.google.com/books?id=GwBlAAAAMAAJ&q=Michel+Dimitri+Shalhoub&dq=Michel+Dimitri+Shalhoub&ei=ZFKESsHFPKXCywTI9sXaDQ |pages=31 |quote=Omar al-Sharif (1931- ) Omar al-Sharif was born Michel Dimitri Shalhoub, to an Alexandrian family of Lebanese descent. }}</ref>

Now, you can just copy and paste the above reliable sources and put the issue to rest. Can I unprotect the article now that you can see clearly what reliable sources say? Ok guys, matter resolved? -- FayssalF - Wiki me up® 18:06, 13 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you, Fayssal... all that you say makes sense. I have the most reliable source, Omar Sharif's own autobiography, The Eternal Male. I have a hard copy of it. The issue here is that I have been through this whole process on Omar Sharif's Discussion page before. Each and every word related to his origins was subjected to very close scrutiny by Admin Sancho. Sancho's decision was what I stated above, that there's no reliable evidence that Omar Sharif was anything but Egyptian. Sancho's concluding statement was: "Even the leap from "Sharif's parents were Lebanese", to "Sharif is of Lebanese descent" is going too far in an article about a living person." It is still on the article Discussion page. Obviously Lebanese bebe is new at this; she's making hilarious claims, including the claim that she lives in the USA, because if she really did, she would know that "till the cows go home" is an American expression that means that the matter was discussed to its conclusion. It had nothing to with her being a cow or otherwise, and she obviously insults herself and attributes the insults to others. --Arab Cowboy (talk) 22:47, 13 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Fayssal, please see this interview with Omar Sharif: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gYD0LTKaFc4&feature=related. At Time 11:30, he says, "I've never changed my passport. My passport was always Egyptian." Period! --Arab Cowboy (talk) 17:07, 14 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Arab Cowboy, "I've never changed my passport. My passport was always Egyptian" is something which relates to him as an individual. That has nothing to do with his ancestral origins which is the subject of your editorial dispute. -- FayssalF - Wiki me up® 14:09, 19 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Fayssal, the article is about Omar Sharif as an individual, not his ancestors. This was the conclusion of the previous mediation by another admin on the same article. In addition, we have already stated that he belongs to a Lebanese-Egyptian family, so, what is the subject of the dispute now? --Arab Cowboy (talk) 11:11, 23 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Omar Sharif was born Michael Shalhoub in Alexandria, Egypt to Lebanese-Egyptian Catholic parents.[2][3] I hadn't seen that sentence! -- FayssalF - Wiki me up® 14:19, 23 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Second Lebanon War[edit]

You reverted my edits to the Second Lebanon War. Apparently, you thought that they weren't "neutral." I should have you know that my edits were thoroughly researched, cross-referenced, sourced and on some occasions, double sourced.

I'm puzzled as to what you find biased in my edits. I added 6 paragraphs (2 in the "Background" section and four in the "Post War events" section), each dealing with a factual event that ocurred. Please review each paragraph and tell me what you find objectionable and why you found the sources to be unreliable.

In addition, since everything I edited was sourced, the reader can take the information at face value and disregard or accept the information based upon the reader's assessment of the source. However, by deleting my edits, you have substituted the reader's judgnment with your own and have acted as an abusive censor and I believe that you have abused your position as site administrator.

I fully intend on re-posting the reverted edits and adding more edits to this and other articles dealing with the Arab/Israeli conflict to restore some balance and unbiased reporting. --Jiujitsuguy (talk) 15:55, 1 September 2009 (UTC)jiujitsuguy--Jiujitsuguy (talk) 15:55, 1 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Hi there Faysself. I see that you were quick to revert my edits but not so quick to explain why you thought the sourced material violated neutrality. I would like an explanation please. --Jiujitsuguy (talk) 00:09, 2 September 2009 (UTC)jiujitsuguy--Jiujitsuguy (talk) 00:09, 2 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Jiujitsuguy. Nobody can be connected onwiki for 24h :) Well, the following are your edits...
  • In late June of 2005 an IDF paratroop unit operating near Shaba Farms detected and engaged a three-man Hezbollah squad that had infiltrated the area. In the day long chase that followed, the IDF force succeeded in killing the squad’s commander while his two comrades fled back across the border. A videotape captured by the paratroopers contained evidence that left little doubt of Hezbollah’s intention to abduct soldiers. <ref>Amos Harel, “Chronicle of Disaster,” 07/18/08, www.haaretz.com/hasen/spages/1003170.html</ref>
reason: This sounds as like press release made by an army. succeeded, evidence, little doubt, intention are all terms used by a biased source. The use of such heavy words makes your tone so biased unless the newspaper is using the same words and in such a case it would be deemed a biased source.
  • The following 12 months witnessed three more attempts by Hezbollah to abduct soldiers. All of these were thwarted by the IDF. The most audacious attempt occurred on November 21, 2005 when dozens of heavily armed Hezbollah special forces, under cover of mortar and rocket fire, crossed the border on foot, motorcycles and ATVs and stormed an Israeli outpost at Kafr Rajar. The outpost however was empty and the Hezbollah force fell victim to an Israeli ambush. A lone Israeli marksman, Cpl. David Markowitz succeeded in killing four guerillas. The remaining force retreated back to their positions in Lebanon, leaving much of their equipment behind. <ref>Dudkevitch, Paratrooper Sniper Becomes Hero, Jerusalem Post Online Edition, 11/22/05.</ref>
reason: Sounds too heroic for an encyclopedia tone. Look at the source again. Imagine a Hizbollah's partisan media talking about this same event if it ever took place.
  • On February 12, 2008 a car bomb in Damascus killed Imad Mugniyah, the head of Hezbollah’s military wing. As its chief military strategist, Mugniyah’s assassination dealt the organization a severe blow. <ref>Zisser, Nasrallah’s Defeat in the 2006 War, 01/23/09, http://netwmd.com/blog/2009/01/3167</ref> According to Israeli intelligence sources, someone had replaced the headrest of the driver’s seat with another containing a small high explosive charge. <ref>http://yalibnan.com/site/archives/2008/02/israel_killed_h.php </ref> Israel considered Mugniyah a “significant force behind actions against Israel” and connected him to the kidnapping of the two reservist soldiers. <ref>Greenberg, Militay Intelligence: Hizbullah lost its number one figure, ynetnews.com, 2/13/08</ref>
reason: Note the blog in the website address. Blogs are not used as reliable sources. We are also talking about the 2006 Lebanon War so the this whole edits about Imad Mughniya which happened on 2008 is considered undue weight. See WP:UNDUE.
  • On July 14, 2009 an underground Hezbollah ammunition depot set off a massive series of explosions in the South Lebanese village of Khirbat Silim, just ten miles north of the Israeli-Lebanese border. Hezbollah, embarrassed by the incident and its apparent violation of UN Security Counsel Resolution 1701, blamed the explosion on, “leftover shells that had been collected during and after Israel’s withdrawal from Lebanon,” in 2000.<ref>Associated Press, Hezbollah: Lebanon blast set off by old shells, 7/22/09</ref> However, United Nations Under-Secretary-General for Peacekeeping Operations, Alain LeRoy, placed the blame squarely on Hezbollah and blamed the organization for heightened tensions in Southern Lebanon.<ref>Benhorin, UN official: Arms Cache that exploded in Lebanon was Hezbollah’s, ynetnews.com, 7/23/09</ref>
reason: Embarassed, apparent? That aside, is this article about the 2006 events or 2009? Please do review WP:NPOV and WP:UNDUE.
  • On July 15, 2009 an Iranian Tupolev commercial airliner crashed in northwest Iran. The Italian newspaper, Corriere della Sera, reported that the crash-which left 168 people dead-was caused by the explosion of sophisticated fuses slated to be delivered to Hezbollah. The aircraft was carrying a large number of modern fuses composed of two kilograms of explosives and electrical instrumentation. Members of the Iranian Revolutionary Guards, who accompanied the contraband, were also killed in the crash. <ref>Magal, Iran Plane was carrying arms for Hezbollah, ynetnews.com (citing Corriere della Sera), 08/02/09.</ref>
  • On August 23, 2009 villagers of the South Lebanese village of Marwakhin forcefully repelled efforts by Hezbollah gunmen to store weapons in their village. The incident was filmed by the IDF’s field intelligence Corps. <ref>http://www.youtube.com/user/idfdesk?blend=4&ob=4</ref> <ref>Lebanese villagers recorded driving away Hezbollah men, Ynetnews.com, 8/25/09</ref>
reason: Undue weight again. And Youtube is not a reliable source. -- FayssalF - Wiki me up® 00:58, 2 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Hello Faissalf. Thank you for responding and thanks for the constructive criticisms. Perhaps we can come to agreement and consensus on my recent edits. I think you were a bit trigger happy on the revert button. That said, I am willing to play ball and make some changes in the spirit of conciliation and journalistic integrity.

Re paragraph 1: You claim that the edit reads like an army press release. I served four years in the JAG so that’s just my writing style but I am willing to remove the offending words that gave rise to the reversion.

Re paragraph 2: You claim that the edit sounds “too heroic” and suggested that the source itself was biased. The source was Haaretz, a well respected, left of center Israeli daily, equivalent in style and substance to the New York Times. As far as the incident itself is concerned, it truly was a remarkable feat considering that a lone, relatively inexperienced soldier killed four heavily armed operatives and foiled their plans. By your logic, the Wiki article dealing with the Entebbe rescue mission, where IDF soldiers flew into the heart of Africa to rescue hostages should be reverted because the episode “sounds too heroic.” Nevertheless, in the interest of consensus, I will make changes so that it will sound “less heroic.”

Re Paragraph 3: You cite two objections. First you claim “undue weight” and you expressed similar objections to the remaining three paragraphs. Second, you claimed that blogs are not reliable. I will first address the former objection as it pertains to the remaining three paragraphs. There is a specific section in the Wiki article that deals with “Post Ceasefire Events.” The last entry prior to mine relates to an event that occurred June 30, 2007 nearly a full year after the cessation of hostilities. Moreover, the following paragraph relates to an event that occurred on July 16, 2008 two year after the war. Yet you did not delete these entries, presumably because they were issues that were very germane to the war. It is therefore entirely appropriate for me to include paragraphs 3 trough 6 as edits in the “post ceasefire events” section. As I pointed out, Israel connected Mugniyah to the abduction which sparked the war. Deletion of my edit as “undue weight” without doing the same in connection with the aforementioned edits is hypocritical.

You also objected to citing the blog as a source. The article that I cited from was written by Prof Eyal Zisser, head of the Department of Middle Eastern and African History and a senior research fellow at the Moshe Dayan Center for Middle Eastern and African Studies at Tel Aviv University. He is the author of several books including Syria: Domestic Political Stress and Globalization (2002), Assad's Legacy: Syria in Transition (2000), and Lebanon: The Challenge of Independence (2000). In short, he’s no light weight and I suggest that you let the Wiki readers determine for themselves the reliability of the source. Moreover, that was 1 of 3 sources that I cited for that particular edit and deletion of the entire edit was harsh.

Re Paragraph 4: You objected to the usage of the words “embarrassed” and “apparent.” I will substitute the offending words.

Re paragraph 5: You argued “undue weight.” Please refer to my counter argument above. In addition, the issue is germane as it relates to a violation of UN Security Counsel Resolution 1701, the Resolution that brought an end to the war.

Re paragraph 6: You objected to YouTube as a source. First, that was not the only source that I relied upon. You were so quick to delete the edit that you failed to take note that Ynet was also cited as a source. Second, the incident was videotaped and uploaded to YouTube. I just wanted to give Wiki readers the opportunity to view the video and judge for themselves. Thank you for your time and consideration and I eagerly await your response. --Jiujitsuguy (talk) 17:22, 2 September 2009 (UTC)jiujitsuguy--Jiujitsuguy (talk) 17:22, 2 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I am afraid that doesn't matter. You've been answered tons of questions and nothing stopped you from excessively wasting the time of the time and patience of the Community and ArbCom. I doubt any further response or clarification is required now. -- FayssalF - Wiki me up® 05:08, 7 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Okay. I assume that's why you're supporting my 6 month site ban, with a 6 month probation. Mythdon (talkcontribs) 05:09, 7 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Also, I have asked more questions regarding the motion at the amendment request. Mythdon (talkcontribs) 19:46, 7 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]
There's nothing left ambiguous. They have been answered in depth unless you believe there are tons of types of conduct probations (there's only one type). Next time, in case you plan to come back, you need to contribute more and ask little (most of your contributions now are excessive and boring questions which is ironic since you have declared lately at your talk page that you do not need any one to advice or help you at all). -- FayssalF - Wiki me up® 20:09, 7 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]
"Advice or help you at all" refers to behavior rather than the terms of the sanctions I am under, and the new sanction I am about to get. "Most of your contributions now are excessive and boring questions. " - What I've been doing lately is vandalism fighting, etc. Also, does this ban have anything to do with my requests to the Arbitration Committee, what is being looked at as poor behavior, or is it both? Right now, I'm wondering if I should come back in March, or come back later. I'm also debating with myself whether or not to make any more requests for clarifications. Mythdon (talkcontribs) 20:14, 7 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]
I have asked more questions at the amendment page. Please answer them, and ones I asked earlier. Mythdon (talkcontribs) 05:47, 8 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Confused[edit]

Hi,

I was pleased that you asked for motions to be entertained in the present RFAR. However, while there seems to be excellent discussion, as a result, it appears that discussion is not being used to inform the process.

I note that you have not yet placed a vote on the most contentious items, so I believe you are proceeding in a way that respects our efforts. I know you can't speak to your colleagues' actions, but do you know whether they have read the motions, or the concerns expressed relating to them? It appears that they are proceeding with their votes in ignorance of our discussion, and that concerns me. Very interested in your thoughts. Or if you see fit to encourage your colleagues to read up on the community motions and their discussions, I'd very much appreciate that too. -Pete (talk) 02:12, 6 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Pete,
Thanks. I am personally still open to entertain discussions and has asked for that. I am still open to review my votes. However, I believe that motions 5.1 and 6 addresses well "Pete Forsyth's edits to Sir Fozzie's motion". I made sure to discuss the community proposals with ArbCom focusing mainly on the guidance aspect of motion(s). Some arbitrators have had concerns about writing policy and I tried my best to argue that they are guidances as the community needs to be encouraged to adopt guidelines or tweak policies in that direction. The thing that all ArbCom members seem to be agreeing with is that what happened is 'bad'. What do you think? -- FayssalF - Wiki me up® 02:37, 6 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]
I think ArbCom is condoning corruption. By only issuing warnings, you invite people to test limits, because the worst that happens is that they get a warning. If they only get caught 10% of the time, they can get away with a lot before they get a warning. When you are dealing with surreptitious misbehavior, you need to apply stronger deterrence than if you are dealing with overt bad behavior that everyone can see and monitor. Jehochman Talk 03:20, 6 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]
I don't believe that is accurate. As I've said a couple of times, I can't sanction someone without a precedent unless it is a very serious violation. It is a serious violation for me but it is not something clear to many people in the community. I am bound by the "don't write policy mr arbitrator". What I am doing is to guide the community to fix that hole in the policy. Bear in mind that if any sanction called for would also apply to you if found guilty after verifying the FT2 allegations "Observation out of disgust by uninvolved FT2". Would it be fair to treat the same thing differently? So, instead of sanctioning a dozen of people I prefer fixing holes. And, no I am not condoning any bad actions and I am sure that any new occurrence by anyone would result in a natural desysop. -- FayssalF - Wiki me up® 04:03, 6 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]
FT2's allegations are pure vindictive nonsense against Bishonen, who he perceives to be his arch enemy. He discredits himself by posting such comments. What a shame. I understand your point about precident. It's a shame the community can't agree how to deal with bad admins. Well, you are doing these people no service by letting them off. They will be held in low regard by many people within the community. The troublemakers and facilitators are quick to post at RFAR, but there are many, many silent editors watching who favor the position I advocate. Thank you for listening to my rants. Good evening, Jehochman Talk 04:30, 6 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Vindictive or not; they are serious. What I am trying to do here is to push the community to develop an explicit policy or guideline. Now, you got a basis; ArbCom does not support the friendship concept within Wikipedia. Please go work for it. This has been my stance since the comment I made at the request. -- FayssalF - Wiki me up® 04:43, 6 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Okay, judicial restraint is an approach. Hopefully you can wrap this case up quickly and take advantage of the momentum for improvement. Jehochman Talk 04:58, 6 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]
It may be a judicial restraint although I am not sure it is but you must be aware of the obiter dictum which concerns your own actions. And yes, the whole community must take advantage of the momentum improvement. The RfA, and adminship in general, is broken and needs a real and serious debate. We have arrived to a very critical crossroad; you whether fix adminship yourselves or give ArbCom more powers to fix it. -- FayssalF - Wiki me up® 05:26, 6 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Law[edit]

Hi, just a small note of correction concerning your recent comment about Law on the Motions page, where you said Law (talk · contribs) had been blocked for nine months, but socked after six months.[4] According to what I can see, he socked after about 2.5 months, not six. He was blocked on June 16,[5] but then began editing on a new account on September 4.[6] so that was 2.5 months into his 9 month block. Or did I make an error of my own? --Elonka 02:23, 6 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks Elonka. You are totally correct. I'll vote accordingly. -- FayssalF - Wiki me up® 02:25, 6 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

To elaborate[edit]

There is a portion of the community that is so put off by ArbCom's attempts to "shove" that official motions which profess to advise upon guidelines and policy provoke the opposite reaction. Silent boycott results where encouragement is intended. Most of the people who have contacted me on that point today have simultaneously cheered the point raised and expressed fears of retaliation if they posted openly. This probably won't boost your morale as an arbitrator, but recall the "editors encouraged" finding of the Scientology arbitration. Review the relevant article histories and ask yourself whether any portion of the community was actually encouraged by that finding. Long after resignation from formal mentorship I still get petitions from multiple people because no other uninvolved edtitor has remotely come close to filling the gap. "Encouragement" findings do not actually encourage the community. At best those motions are ineffectual; experienced editors interpret them as the Committee's collective plea for backup in situations so hairy that no arbitrator is willing to assume actual risk. Experience has shown that the Committee does not support the community members who respond to such pleas; if they make the slightest error (real or perceived) they get hung out to dry. Durova321 03:05, 7 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Yes, encouragements to the community, along the lines of "Behave better and improve the Scientology articles", are often not effective, and those who try to solve hard problems are often punished, or threatened with punishment, for any perceived flaw in their work. I've experienced this myself quite recently. On the other hand, Durova, how do you feel about Wikipedia_talk:Arbitration/Requests/Motions#Administrators_reminded_and_encouraged? My understanding is that the reminder to administrators is just pointing to Wikipedia:Administrators and saying in effect, "We are going to enforce this policy more strictly. Please pay careful attention." I think that sort of motion can be useful. Jehochman Talk 12:37, 7 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for your thoughts guys. Let's see... the problem with Wikipedia dispute resolution process is not its application; it is that -as a community- we don't have a system set on stones. As an arbitrator with an experience as an editor and administrator, I try my best to craft resolutions taking into consideration multiple factors; never one factor. It is very easy for arbitrators to go beyond encouraging and focus on sanctions. But experience has shown that that is not the magical formula. In my co-presentation at the Buenos Aires' Wikimania, I explained to the audience the difference between earlier disputes and 2008/2009 ones is that most of the disputes now are disputes involving groups of people against other groups. Sanctions fit for disputes where individual behavior is in question. When you have a group wiki-fighting against another you'd never arrive to a consensus in terms of a dispute resolution approach. When I encourage a group today to do something I make sure I send a message that next time I'll sanction. Managing group disputes is not like managing individual disputes and you know that. I wish the community comes up with a very optimal approach. To arrive to that approach we need to discourage the groups' culture and to do that I am supporting the friendship concept vs Wikipedia motion. We need to see each other as equal contributors with no cabals, no secret mailing lists, no conspiracies, etc... This is not a social club. -- FayssalF - Wiki me up® 17:59, 7 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

In fairness[edit]

As discussed here, do you think it would be helpful to include a general admonishment of any unnamed parties who knowingly supported a sock puppet at RfA? There have been some questions of fairness like why are we picking on these administrators when there are others? It is possible to place a remedy against unnamed parties. Should they be disclosed later, then the remedy is there to help them. Jehochman Talk 13:01, 8 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Vanguard rocket[edit]

Hi, I notice you tagged the Vanguard (rocket) article for Military History, back in 2007. I wonder if you knew that the Vanguard was explicitly developed as a non-military, civilian satellite launcher? There actually was an oblique connection, in that in 1955 (when the project started), the US was developing a spy satellite system based on the ballistic missile, and was concerned that overflying Russian territory with a military rocket might create problems. So it was thought best to develop a separate scientific satellite launcher to establish the overflight precedent, rather than use a military launch vehicle. This may have been the deciding factor in the choice of the NRL Vanguard over the Army Jupiter as the IGY satellite launch vehicle. Of course this was all made moot when the USSR launched Sputnik 1 on an R-7 rocket, their ICBM, which was about 30 times larger than Vanguard. Anyhow, I thought you might want to reconsider the tag. I will not remove it myself. Cheers, Wwheaton (talk) 18:04, 4 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Clarification request[edit]

Greetings, Fayssal, from a recent convict. I'd like to ask for a bit of clarification (at least informal) on the "articles about Eastern Europe" wording. The way it's phrased seems pretty ironclad, but in this discussion you seem to leave open room for a little leeway, speaking of the "spirit of the restriction". The reason I'm asking for more of an explanation is that I both wish to abide by the decision, and wish to avoid being taken before WP:AE by individuals who may be watching my edits.

  • My last edit before the case closed was this. Would that now be unacceptable?
  • What about this recent edit?
  • Moldova has 32 districts, each divided into communes. I have created very short stubs (like this one) about communes in 27 of them, but I still have 5 districts to go. Would it be acceptable to continue?

I'm not looking to game the system. I realise my actions have displeased the Committee, and not without reason. But I would like a better sense of where things stand. - Biruitorul Talk 04:41, 23 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Again I ask: what about, at the very least, reverting simple vandalism? For instance this guy with four contributions just vandalized four articles. Vandalism has only been reverted on one of them, but I, with 60,510 edits (who even wrote one of the articles in question), apparently can do nothing about it. Please clarify. - Biruitorul Talk 16:27, 28 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Copyright issues with pictures you uploaded[edit]

Hi FayssalF. I have noticed there are copyright issues with many pictures you uploaded here and on Commons.

  • First I stumbled on File:Elmandjra.jpg : who is the author? What made you assert this photo has been put in public domain by its author? Can you point me to the text that say so please?
  • Then I noticed you also uploaded some pictures of you which you claim to be the author ("I, the copyright holder..."). This is obviously not the case. Can you please mention the actual author and send his/her permission to the OTRS team? Among those pictures are: File:Faybens.jpg, File:Braveheart fay.JPG, File:Bus manchester airport.JPG, File:Bus edinburgh.JPG (please check the other pictures of yourself if any)
  • Finally, there are a number of images you imported on Commons (and maybe here) from http://www.sajed.ir/, a site whose editor states that its content is under GFDL. The problem here is that there is little chance that this editor is the author of the pictures he is using (like File:Taleghani-big.jpg or File:Mersad.jpg) and therefore, being not the copyright holder, (s)he has no right to release them under a GFDL license. Can you please check the pictures you uploaded from sajed.ir and delete them? Thanks.

I know this work can be tedious but as an admin, I guess you know that abiding with copyrights is a primary issue. Thank you for fixing this quickly, else I will have to ask for the deletion of those pictures. — Xavier, 19:20, 21 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Xavier:
  • File:Elmandjra.jpg: I got an e-mail from the subject of the picture. I have no problem providing it.
  • These are all my own pictures. In other words, that is me. How can I prove that? I am wondering how sure you are when you say "This is obviously not the case".
  • The Iranian files were uploaded when the copyright policy and debates were still at their start. You can just delete them.
Note that most of the above were uploaded almost four years ago. If I had uploaded them yesterday I could be accused of not abiding by the rules! -- FayssalF - Wiki me up® 23:18, 9 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

This is not a motion; this is an indefinite block related to Arbitration Enforcement. Motions are suitable for complex issues. Cases involving accounts who have shown no sign of an improvement after a an ArbCom case (admonishment) and a 6 month ban need no motion when blocking indefinitely. It's deserved and please, let's not waste time here. If you want to appeal, please do so. -- FayssalF - Wiki me up® 06:36, 15 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Your tone appears rather uncivil when I have being civil with you. Please be so with me. You do not need to stress words in your posts as if you are talking down to me. I do not know completely how Arbcom operates, but 12 hours to indef seems a bit of a stretch for something of enforcement. Further, this case was about his interaction with Ryulong. Asmahan[edit]

Hello Faysal, do you remember this post that you left, [11] that we should discuss sources, arguments and let other experienced contributors help. Well I presented the corrections at the talkpage and got a neutral editor to take a look, look at nr 4 in corrections: [12] I presented my suggestion and linked to the source in the book and Nishidani came with a suggestion following the source and added it to the article, now the Newer Tweety account has changed that sentence to "stopped in" against what we talked about, and against what the source say, [13] Nefer Tweety has done this without participating at the talkpage, he just changed what me and Nishhdiani talked about typing "corrections" in the edit summary. This is the same old behavior that Arab Cowboy and NT did repeatedly which led to arbitration, anything that was talked about at the talkpage they just changed against what had been said on the talkpage. And NT is still continuing with this now. Peter Cohen has also made a post at the talkpage asking Nefer Tweety if Peter can be accepted as an honest broker without being called a meatpuppet and NT did not reply [14] the article is on probation, can you please take a look at this? --Supreme Deliciousness (talk) 00:43, 12 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Gibraltar Case Comments[edit]

I just wanted to bring to your attention a few things on the Gibraltar case.

1. When I was having problems I said some regrettable things, which I have apologised for, if you still feel a topic ban is appropriate then I'm not going to argue about it. I just make the point that bans and blocks are supposedly preventative not punitive. I made those remarks whilst in a bad place, they haven't been repeated and they're out of character. Now that I am a lot better is it still appropriate?

2. The assertion that the self-governing status of Gibraltar is an "opinion" not a fact. Sorry but I cannot accept that remaining in the case. Gibraltar is self-governing, it is a fact that the Spanish editors could not dispute. Instead they have tried to use a combination of synthesis and original research to try and minimise the status in the article. Their motivation in doing so is based on Spanish nationalism toward Gibraltar, where it is portrayed as a British colony on stolen Spanish soil. Those comments are only serving to buttress Spanish nationalism to skew the POV of the article not to achieve NPOV. I think you're being incredibly naive if you feel those remarks are helpful in steering the dispute, I can see those remarks coming back to haunt you in various nationalist disputes.

3. When this case was started, I couldn't participate fully as my father was ill and another editor was hospitalised. The evidence produced by a number of editors who've effectively held the article hostage was directed toward removing editors they disagreed with by topic bans; you'll note that I didn't propose of suggest any blocks/bans/sanctions against individuals. Effectively what you're proposing is to remove one side but leave the other intact. You're rewarding editors for baiting others into uncivil remarks.

4. In reading your comments I can only conclude you have apparently disregarded the workshop. In the workshop there was case of RHoPF hounding editors, walls of text being put up to derail discussion by Ecemaml, non-apologies such as "I'm sorry you were offended by my joke" not to mention examples of bad faith and uncivil remarks:

[15] activity, obstinacy, discourtesy, incompetence at communication, and nationalism form a demonic combination
[16] "Gibnews' rottweiler" repeated [17]

[18] I get a sense of "if I'm going down I'm taking you with me" here.
[19] So that is three untruths in the same section from you, Why are you telling untruths here, Justin?

5. In the workshop, the editors were lobbying to have my conduct examined more fully. I would still welcome that.

6. This was never an arbcom case, there had been no previous attempt at long term solutions. I can only note my bitter disappointment that arbcom would punish one group of violators while allowing another group of violators to go free without even a token slap or even have their conduct examined at all. Particularly an editor who apparently delights in teasing and tormenting those with temporary mental problems. I've seen this editor hounding people for years and I can't believe he is going to get away with it again.

The solution you're proposing might reduce conflict, well if you ban only one side then what's left can violently agree on skewing the POV of the article. What it isn't is a long term solution, I did propose something like this some time ago [20], it would be more workable. Justin talk 09:49, 30 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Fair use rationale for File:Cantonporcelain.jpg[edit]

Thanks for uploading or contributing to File:Cantonporcelain.jpg. I notice the file page specifies that the file is being used under fair use but there is not a suitable explanation or rationale as to why each specific use in Wikipedia constitutes fair use. Please go to the file description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'file' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "File" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free media lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Sfan00 IMG (talk) 14:09, 8 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Rogue administrators[edit]

I am writing because one or more admins are blocking accounts from users who happen not to agree with them. My crime was to post these comments. I will leave it to you to decide whether or not the charges are valid. My attempts to complain have also been blocked. Attempts to contact you by email and phone also failed. I had to change my IP address in order to be able to contact you. I suspect a very large number of users have similarly been falsely accused and have been unable to contact you because they did not know how to alter their IP address. If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hang on}} to the top of the page that has been nominated for deletion (just below the existing speedy deletion, or "db", tag; if no such tag exists, then the page is no longer a speedy delete candidate and adding a hang-on tag is unnecessary), coupled with adding a note on the talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the page meets the criterion, it may be deleted without delay. WIKIcryptic[edit]

Dear FayssalF, I use Wikipedia on a daily basis, before I dive deeper in those subjects that interest me (The pre-colonialo trans-Saharan camel trade from either Egypt towards Ghana/Mali/Songhay or the trade from Sijilmassa to Audaghost), but I nearly gave up looking for a possibility to contact one - or several - of the authors of my subject/s.

Could you please be so kind to advise me, what the real way is to get in touch with W-authors? That I finally found a place to write you, was pure luck. Forgive me, if this was the wrong way. It was the only I found!

I am VERY MUCH impressed by your long list of subjects you are interested in, your language skills and all the different works you do with or for WIKIPEDIA. Truely amazing.

I would be very thankful to get your response with a guideline enabling me to get in touch with Wiki-authors like yourself and others. You could reach me under juebusch@aol.com or under SUMANGURU in Wikipedia!

Not that it really matters, but I have been at least 25 times in your homeland Morocco. As friend of the country and "traveller" in general, rather than as an Agadir beach boy. My main subject of interest right now is a bit further to the south, though - Mauretania and their material culture, with a preference to their works as artist, especially jewelry > Mallemin.

Hope to hear from you, wishes from Solingen, SUMANGURU — Preceding unsigned comment added by Sumanguru (talkcontribs) 21:10, 31 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Problems with upload of File:Profile-temsamani.png[edit]

Thanks for uploading File:Profile-temsamani.png. You don't seem to have said where the image came from, who created it, or provided a license tag. We require this information to verify that the image is legally usable on Wikipedia, and because most image licenses require giving credit to the image's creator.

To add this information, select the appropriate license tag from this list, click on this link, then click the "Edit" tab at the top of the page and add the information to the image's description. If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

A tag has been placed on The American School of Tangier requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G12 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be a clear copyright infringement. For legal reasons, we cannot accept copyrighted text or images borrowed from other web sites or printed material, and as a consequence, your addition will most likely be deleted. You may use external websites as a source of information, but not as a source of sentences. This part is crucial: say it in your own words. Wikipedia takes copyright violations very seriously and persistent violators will be blocked from editing.

If the external website belongs to you, and you want to allow Wikipedia to use the text — which means allowing other people to modify it — then you must verify that externally by one of the processes explained at Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials. If you are not the owner of the external website but have permission from that owner, see Wikipedia:Requesting copyright permission. You might want to look at Wikipedia's policies and guidelines for more details, or ask a question here.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, contest the deletion by clicking on the button labelled "Click here to contest this speedy deletion". Doing so will take you to the talk page where you will find a pre-formatted place for you to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. You can also visit the page's talk page directly to give your reasons, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the page meets the criterion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the page that would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Hello FayssalF. I am trying to get the Battle of El Herri recognised as a Good Article. The image File:Pacha hassan.jpeg has been picked up in the review. Arabic discussion at Islamic Golden Age.[edit]

Hi, I got your name through Wikiproject Islam. I've started a section at Talk:Islamic Golden Age re: the correct Arabic text and transliteration for Islamic Golden Age. I'm a non-Arabic reader myself; would you be able to help at all, or point me in the direction of someone who can? Thanks, merlin --Merlinme (talk) 12:38, 29 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Request for translation[edit]

I am writing this request because you are listed at Wikipedia:Translators available#Arabic-to-English. The text that I'm requesting a translation for is the following:

  • "ضابط يكشف "خطط تجسس" المراقبين الدوليين على سورية". Ad-Diyar (in Arabic). Beirut, Lebanon. June 9, 2012. Archived from the original on June 20, 2012. Retrieved June 20, 2012. {{cite news}}: Unknown parameter |deadurl= ignored (|url-status= suggested) (help); Unknown parameter |trans_title= ignored (|trans-title= suggested) (help)

The background for this request can be read here. I am preparing for a future discussion about this information at at WP:RSN, and from past experience with foreign-language sources I know that a qualified translation, not merely a machine Google translation, will be requested by the regular reviewers at that noticeboard.

Do note also that I have made this request with four other Arabic-to-English translators besides yourself as past experience is that most will not respond to this request, at least not in a timely fashion. Therefore, should you wish to offer yourself to this task, you should inform the other four so that they will know to disregard the request on their talk pages. You could also simply inform me that you will do the job and I can do the notifying. In any case, here are links to the four other requests:

Dear Faysal, I have finished the translation.

Non-free rationale for File:Telquel.gif[edit]

Thanks for uploading or contributing to File:Telquel.gif. I notice the file page specifies that the file is being used under non-free content criteria, but there is not a suitable explanation or rationale as to why each specific use in Wikipedia is acceptable. Please go to the file description page, and edit it to include a non-free rationale.

If you have uploaded other non-free media, consider checking that you have specified the non-free rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'file' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "File" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free media lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If the file is already gone, you can still make a request for undeletion and ask for a chance to fix the problem. If you have any questions, please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Sfan00 IMG (talk) 09:34, 26 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Orphaned non-free media (File:ASSalé.JPG)[edit]

Thanks for uploading File:ASSalé.JPG. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'file' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "File" from the dropdown box. Note that all non-free media not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. A tag has been placed on International Bar Association, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done for the following reason:

G11

Under the criteria for speedy deletion, articles that do not meet basic Wikipedia criteria may be deleted at any time.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Click here to contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be removed without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, and you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, you can place a request here. Ch.Andrew (talk) 05:35, 9 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Assyrians vs. Syriacs[edit]

Hello friends,

I've been trying to correct this serious mistake on wikipedia for quite some time but I've encountered frustrating problems. The Syriac people are listed on wikipedia as Assyrians. I've tried to modified to elaborate, and I've tried to create a new article for the Syriacs, separate from the Assyrians, but every time, they get undone by Wikipedia even though your editors and Administrators seem ignorant to these facts, no offense intended.

To explain the difference: The Syriacs to the Assyrians are as the Hebrews to the Arabs or the Arabs to the Aramaics or the Arabs to the Amazighs. They are NOT the same people.

But then why are they merged together?

Here's the simple answer: politics. What do I mean by that? The Assyrian nationalists have largely tried to inflate their presence in the Fertile Crescent in order to justify claims for the creation of an Assyrian nation. Since their numbers are small and limited to Iraq, they tried to claim the Syriac people as Assyrian, since the numbers of the Syriac people are much, much larger, which can come in handy when claiming to justify the creation of an Assyrian nation.

There are very few Syriacs who do not object to that. However, the overwhelming majority of all Syriac Christians reject to be categorized as Assyrians for different reasons. The religions are as different as the Sunnis are to the Shiites. The languages are as different as Arabic is to Hebrew. The culture and the people are very different and historically are distinct. Check the books by reputable historians such as Arnold Toynbee, Samuel Noah Kramer, Jonathan Tubb and others. Here's a quick explanation of the history to help grasp the picture...

This topic has been highly politicized due to a subtle fact that it may interest you to learn. In the 19th century, the Assyrians launched a nationalist movement to establish an Assyrian nation in northern Iraq. In that aspect, they were similar to the Armenians. The Syriacs, on the other hand, shared no such aspirations. The Syriac population was largely responsible for launching Arab nationalism and Syrian nationalism from Lebanon and Damascus. Since then, the successive governments in Iraq tried to exterminate the Assyrian nationalists as they did with the Kurds. In the 1930s, some Assyrians escaped to Syria. The Assyrians have tried to blend both peoples by claiming they are the same. Yet, after amalgamating the Assyrians with the Syriac majority and the Chaldean minority, they call the whole as Assyrians. The reason is quite simple, it is to fudge their numbers so they can be afforded political claims.

Unfortunately, some historians who do not understand the religious and ethnic differences usually fall in this trap due to the fact that Syria, Syriac and Assyria seem similar. They are not. There are reasons to these differences. They are just as different as the Hebrews and the Assyrians. Refer to Arnold Toynbee's books or any other reputable historical reference that can explain the difference between the Syrian and the Assyrian civilization and the fact that the latter subjugated the former, a popular event of which was the first invasion of the northern kingdom of Israel. That characteristic Assyrian style of colonization resorted to depopulating the Syriac (or Syrian) city-states of their political, religious and cultural elites and relocating them to the body of the Assyrian empire in order to facilitate the process of assimilation. In the end, this relocated Syriac population grew culturally powerful in lower Mesopotamia and overthrew the Assyrian empire in the late 7th century B.C. and established what became known as the Chaldean or Neo-Babylonian empire, due to the fact that it was Chaldean Aramaic tribes that ruled in Babylon. I hope that helped clarify the point.

Finally, as a Syriac individual, I would like to be able to create a new article in order to document the facts regarding the Syriac people, the genocide, the politics, religion, culture, etc... They need to be accounted for under their real identity, not some fictional and politicized one.

Cheers,

Nour — Preceding unsigned comment added by Ndouchi (talkcontribs) 14:42, 12 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Notification of pending suspension of administrative permissions due to inactivity[edit]

Information icon Following a community discussion in June 2011, consensus was reached to provisionally suspend the administrative permissions of users who have been inactive for one year (i.e. administrators who have not made any edits or logged actions in over one year). As a result of this discussion, your administrative permissions will be removed pending your return if you do not return to activity within the next month. If you wish to have these permissions reinstated should this occur, please post to the Wikipedia:Bureaucrats' noticeboard and the userright will be restored per the re-sysopping process (i.e. as long as the attending bureaucrats are reasonably satisfied that your account has not been compromised, that your inactivity did not have the effect of evading scrutiny of any actions which might have led to sanctions, and that you have not been inactive for a three year period of time). If you remain inactive for a three year period of time, including the present year you have been inactive, you will need to request reinstatement at WP:RFA. This removal of access is procedural only, and not intended to reflect negatively upon you in any way. We wish you the best in future endeavors, and thank you for your past administrative efforts. If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

A tag has been placed on Boulevard des Jeunes Musiciens requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about an organized event (tour, function, meeting, party, etc.), but it does not indicate how or why the subject is important or significant: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, such articles may be deleted at any time. Please read more about what is generally accepted as notable.

Epeefleche (talk) 21:50, 3 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page. Nomination of Library system for deletion[edit]

A discussion is taking place as to whether the article Library system is suitable for inclusion in Wikipedia according to Wikipedia's policies and guidelines or whether it should be deleted.

The article will be discussed at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Library system until a consensus is reached, and anyone is welcome to contribute to the discussion. The nomination will explain the policies and guidelines which are of concern. The discussion focuses on high-quality evidence and our policies and guidelines.

Users may edit the article during the discussion, including to improve the article to address concerns raised in the discussion. However, do not remove the article-for-deletion notice from the top of the article. PamD 07:43, 1 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Europe 10,000 Challenge invite[edit]

Hi. The Wikipedia:WikiProject Europe/The 10,000 Challenge has recently started, based on the UK/Ireland Wikipedia:The 10,000 Challenge. The idea is not to record every minor edit, but to create a momentum to motivate editors to produce good content improvements and creations and inspire people to work on more countries than they might otherwise work on. There's also the possibility of establishing smaller country or regional challenges for places like Germany, Italy, the Benelux countries, Iberian Peninsula, Romania, Slovenia etc, much like Wikipedia:The 1000 Challenge (Nordic). For this to really work we need diversity and exciting content and editors from a broad range of countries regularly contributing. If you would like to see masses of articles being improved for Europe and your specialist country like Wikipedia:WikiProject Africa/The Africa Destubathon, sign up today and once the challenge starts a contest can be organized. This is a way we can target every country of Europe, and steadily vastly improve the encyclopedia. We need numbers to make this work so consider signing up as a participant and also sign under any country sub challenge on the page that you might contribute to! Thank you. --Ser Amantio di NicolaoChe dicono a Signa?Lo dicono a Signa. 06:06, 6 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]

New WikiProject task force on garage rock[edit]

TheGracefulSlick and I have been working together to create a WikiProjcet task force (as part of the WikiProject Rock Music). We have been working on preliminary designs for the page (see User:Garagepunk66/sandbox12) and its userbox (see User:TheGracefulSlick/Userbox). We have a group of editors who have indicated that they would like to join the task force. Can we go ahead and submit the page or do we need administrative help/approval first? I notice that you have been active at the Rock music portal. I was wondering if you could help us or know someone who can? We could use assistance from an administrator or WikiProject coordinator. Proposed deletion of Nano-Hive@Home[edit]

The article Nano-Hive@Home has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

software project article of unclear notability, lacking independent references, tagged for refs since Feb 2016.

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. Disambiguation link notification for September 3[edit]

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. An automated process has detected that when you recently edited Driss Temsamani, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page American (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver). Such links are usually incorrect, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of unrelated topics with similar titles. (Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.)

It's OK to remove this message. Also, to stop receiving these messages, follow these opt-out instructions. Thanks, DPL bot (talk) 09:13, 3 September 2018 (UTC)[reply]
