Orphaned fair use image (Image:Allsaintspromo.jpg)[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:Allsaintspromo.jpg. I notice the 'image' page currently specifies that the image is unlicensed for use on Wikipedia and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable under fair use (see our fair use policy).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any fair use images not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. Fritz S. (Talk) 17:50, 26 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Template:Infobox central bank[edit]

Hi,

I'm about to do a large scale change on {{Infobox central bank}}. You can see the new code at User:Chochopk/Template sandbox 2 and examples at User:Chochopk/Template sandbox 1. They may not look so different, but this is to reduce code clutter and bring consistency with {{Infobox Currency}} and {{Infobox Country}}. It also fixes some alignment issue.

I would also like to remove printer and mint. I know I'm repeating myself, but I still think manufacturing the physical currency is just a minor function of a central bank. Determining how much more to print is is a more important task, which is independent of who prints the notes. --ChoChoPK (球球PK) (talk | contrib) 15:06, 24 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

According to the timestamp of your message, you probably read my sandbox at a time when the wikipedia site-wide CSS was broken. The result was infoboxes being too wide and the font being too big. The timing couldn't be any worse. Now it's fixed. You're welcome to look again. If it's not in my sandbox, that means I probably move it to the real template. --ChoChoPK (球球PK) (talk | contrib) 03:10, 25 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Evanescence covers[edit]

All I know is that this issue was discussed with a couple of admins, who stated that scanned images are equated with digital photographs, and that they do not fall under fair-use, similar to how you can take a photograph of any other product (vehicle, sofa, etc) and it be a valid exclusion of FU. Perhaps CC-by-SA is the wrong tag, but I'm convinced by both the above statements and by that logic, that these are valid images. No offense, but I'm getting somewhat perturbed by the rediculous amount of contradictory information presented here. -- Huntster T@C 18:51, 5 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks, but after discussing this on IRC this morning with both regular users and admins, I'm at the point of throwing up my hands in disgust, especially with one of the closing statements by an admin being "Admins don't know any more about copyright than you do." While it may be true, this is a disturbing statement to make, as it calls into question the ability to accurately assess the licensing. I frankly don't care anymore if you nominate every bloody image for speedy; perhaps the articles would be better off without any images, free or fair-use (a policy which I consider to be a joke, given the number of holes and the vagueness in which it is presented). Anyway, do whatever you want, I'm quite finished caring. In any case, I'll toss up a message on the main Ev article, and I suggest it might be a good idea for you to do the same. -- Huntster T@C 20:36, 5 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Ireland links in Kyrill (storm)[edit]

I accidentally reverted your edits because I was reverting Tp1024 at the time, and your edits were added to the article while I was reading the old revision, so I didn't notice them while reverting. Sorry about that, tends to happen on often-edited articles. --doco () 14:30, 20 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hi RedHotHeat, I've reverted your edits to the Irish bio template. The reason is that this template is used for people from Ireland, both before and after partition, in Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland. For this reason the flag of the Republic of Ireland is not suitable. Hope you understand. « Keith t/e» 17:50, 20 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

EEA[edit]

Well there are a couple of reasons I reverted really but the little box doesn't allow for enough explanation. The first one is that the addition looked like it had just been tacked on the end and didn't read very well. The second reason is that I slightly misunderstood the article on the EEA on this site and thought that the EU laws were automatically extended to cover the EFTA countries. But the first reason still stands.-Localzuk(talk) 16:04, 31 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I think to explain it adequately would be giving it too much focus. As a whole, it is not that big of an event in the Windows XP history so the brief explanation regarding the eea should do I think.-Localzuk(talk) 16:13, 31 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Image:ÉdithCresson.jpg[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:ÉdithCresson.jpg. I notice the 'image' page specifies that the image is being used under fair use, but its use in Wikipedia articles fails our first fair use criterion in that it illustrates a subject for which a freely licensed image could reasonably be found or created that provides substantially the same information. If you believe this image is not replaceable, please:

  1. Go to the image description page and edit it to add {{Replaceable fair use disputed}}, without deleting the original Replaceable fair use template.
  2. On the image discussion page, write the reason why this image is not replaceable at all.

Alternatively, you can also choose to replace the fair use image by finding a freely licensed image of its subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or a similar) image under a free license, or by taking a picture of it yourself.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified how these images fully satisfy our fair use criteria. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that any fair use images which are replaceable by free-licensed alternatives will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Bob 06:54, 10 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Fair use rationale for Image:Noëlquedubonheur.jpg[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:Noëlquedubonheur.jpg. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in Wikipedia articles constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any fair use images uploaded after 4 May, 2006, and lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Non-free use disputed for Image:3HK.gif[edit]

Warning sign This file may be deleted.

Thanks for uploading Image:3HK.gif. However, there is a concern that the rationale you have provided for using this image under "fair use" may be invalid. Please read carefully the instructions at Wikipedia:Non-free content and then go to the image description page and clarify why you think the image qualifies.

If it is determined that the image does not qualify under fair use, it will be deleted within a couple of days according to our Criteria for speedy deletion. On 6/14/2006, you uploaded the "CBS eye" portion of the network logo. Your upload summary, however, provides no source for the image that you uploaded, nor did you provide a fair use rationale for the image. Administrators are going through all non-free logos and tagging them for deletion if they are not properly documented. Yours was tagged, and will be deleted when an administrator gets to it through the backlog. Do you have the exact source for the file (i.e., the actual file location on the website)? If so, I can provide the necessary fair use rationale to prevent the logo from being deleted. Thanks much. dhett (talk contribs) 04:17, 24 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Unspecified source for Image:Aerlinguslogo.svg[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:Aerlinguslogo.svg. I noticed that the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you did not create this file yourself, then you will need to specify the owner of the copyright. If you obtained it from a website, then a link to the website from which it was taken, together with a restatement of that website's terms of use of its content, is usually sufficient information. However, if the copyright holder is different from the website's publisher, then their copyright should also be acknowledged.

As well as adding the source, please add a proper copyright licensing tag if the file doesn't have one already. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then the {{GFDL-self}} tag can be used to release it under the GFDL. If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Fair use, use a tag such as {{non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair use. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their source and tagged them, too. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link. Unsourced and untagged images may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If the image is copyrighted under a non-free license (per Wikipedia:Fair use) then the image will be deleted 48 hours after 15:59, 31 May 2007 (UTC). Non-free use disputed for Image:Glambia.png[edit]

Warning sign This file may be deleted.

I have tagged Image:FG-s5-r2.jpg as {{orphaned fairuse}}. In order for the image to be kept at Wikipedia, it must be included in at least one article. Great Hunger[edit]

Hi, you participated in a recent straw poll at Talk:The Great Hunger on a possible name change. Most of the editors that participated in the recent polls were invited to participate in the most recent, but as far as I can see you were not. Your opinion should still be heard. The editor who opened the new poll said this to the other participants. "This is a friendly notice that I have opened another straw poll, this time to find the names that editors are most opposed to. If you know of anybody who did not vote in the last straw poll, but who has an interest in the name debate, please feel free to pass this on. Scolaire (talk)". Regards Wotapalaver (talk) 13:53, 2 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

PS. The poll closed 36 hours ago. The result was move to Great Famine (Ireland). I posted friendly notice to everybody who took part in this poll (you didn't) on June 18, but Wotapalaver apparently "didn't have time" to pass it on until just now. Confused? I sure am!
