Filenames[edit]

Regarding https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Filename

Dates, timestamps comments are file attributes but not part of the filename.

Can you site an example of a file name containing "revision or generation number"

Thank you, DGerman (talk) 21:51, 30 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]

No problem. "Revision or generation number" can be used in source code for software.
Dates and timestamps and comments can also be denoted automatically and/or manually inside the file name, e.g. "Screenshot from 2022-05-01 02-07-55.task manager.png". EstherLoer 00:12, 1 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]
The implication is that particular characters within a filename, used by convention, by users or an application, such as revision/generation/dates/timestamps/comments/owner are maintained by the file system.
This use of a group of characters in part of the filename in inconsistent with the actual file attributes(when they exist) which are maintained by the filesystem.
Utilities and system components which use the actual filesystem attributes will not use the characters of a filename for filesystem processing such as access permission, date of creation, modification by archival utilities based on date etcetera. Requesting the filesystem to revert to a previous generation of a file is independent of any characters in the filename.
Users will be confused(and wrong) if they think that using utilities and applications, which do use filesystem attributes, will maintain the filename characters a particular group of users or applications have chosen to have special meaning. Having two definitions of attributes like owner, one which is maintained and enforced by the filesystem and one used by an application always raises the question of which one will be adhered to.

Disambiguation link notification for May 25[edit]

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. An automated process has detected that when you recently edited Beyond the Horizon (People in Planes album), you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page CRT. Such links are usually incorrect, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of unrelated topics with similar titles. (Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.)

Pretty Buildings moved to draftspace[edit]

An article you recently created, Pretty Buildings, is not suitable as written to remain published. It needs more citations from reliable, independent sources. (?) Information that can't be referenced should be removed (verifiability is of central importance on Wikipedia). I've moved your draft to draftspace (with a prefix of "Draft:" before the article title) where you can incubate the article with minimal disruption. When you feel the article meets Wikipedia's general notability guideline and thus is ready for mainspace, please click on the "Submit your draft for review!" button at the top of the page. Notice

The article Dagmar Ochmanczyk has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

The coverage (references, external links, etc.) does not seem sufficient to justify this article passing Wikipedia:General notability guideline nor the more detailed Wikipedia:Notability (biographies) requirement. WP:BEFORE did not reveal any significant coverage on Gnews, Gbooks or Gscholar. If you disagree and deprod this, please explain how it meets them on the talk page here in the form of "This article meets criteria A and B because..." and ping me back through WP:ECHO or by leaving a note at User talk:Piotrus. Thank you.

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, pages may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the page to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion.
