Proposed deletion / merger[edit]

I've stuck a pAfD on Poker Night Live as looking at this from someone who admittedly is not an online player, it looks merely like an advert for the site and not meeting notability guidelines. Raerth 17:27, 2 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Hurrr[edit]

My update wasn't nonsense, Tiffany Williamson is universally acknowledged as a horrible player. She also got clocked in this year's WSOP too so she obviously hasn't learned any table ettiquete. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 68.193.14.234 (talkcontribs)

Can I get an Entry?[edit]

How about an entry for Jason Steinhorn? http://pokerdb.thehendonmob.com/player.php?a=r&n=44222 Happy to provide the information if you can create the article... Thanks!

David Williams Needs Porno Entry[edit]

While only refuted by Mr. Williams in the years leading up to the porno discovery, It is 100% him. I personally own a copy of the DVD and have collected much evidence on the subject. Gambling911.com / Fleshbot / and even Bluff Magazine did a story on the subject (although the latter pulled the article due to taste issues, not facts) The article must have a reference to the Porno he was in. I have all the evidence, this is Micon from Neverwinpoker

If you want to debate it, use Talk:David Williams (card player). Cheers. Essexmutant 16:50, 30 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Mega Spam additions[edit]

I don't have that adminability to revert multiple spams in one swoop. Perhaps you will revert all these http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Special:Contributions&target=69.148.171.230 We can discuss hendon mob versus pokerpages databases at a different time, but this sleazy spam is inserting all these pokerpages links above official sites, top of the lists. It should all just be reverted. If you can do that, great. 2005 21:13, 22 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

by what criteria does Malta[edit]

get the title most bombed place on earth? even within ww II it did not receive anywhere near as much ordanance as say japan, even dresden in one raid received more then malta, as far as frequency and consistency malta might be close but again there were places in vietnam that got bombed repeatly throughout that war

No idea what you're on about, sorry. Essexmutant 23:13, 22 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Phil Ivey Second Place Razz Finish Source[edit]

http://www.pokerpages.com/tournament/result7866.htm. PokerPages is a very reliable poker site.

I see what you've done now[edit]

re the Devilfish addition. I'm new to Wikipedia. I still think it's a more plausible account of how the nickname was arrived at than the version in the main text, though.

Why did you delete my alternative nickname theory for Dave Ulliott?[edit]

Was it that I didn't ask first, or that the account about the Devilfish's nickname is not attributed to any named person? I find it more plausible than the one currently posted.

Prince of nothing[edit]

I had very good reasons for deleting the content in the Prince of Nothing entry - the information is plagiarized and not relevant unless you are actually reading the books already. I noted this in the talk page, and I'm willing to work on improving the article - but in the meantime, copying the book's appendix isn't much help to people who are just investigating the series. These need other eyes than mine, would you be willing to take a look? After hacking through massive amounts of bad grammar and POV, I can't look at them for a while.

:) Note from Aleena - Thank you for your willingness to go through them. As I said, I can't look at them right now. I am actually sick of looking at them after spending 2-3 days looking over the same words over and over and over again editting them in a text editor. I will take a look at your changes after a few days away from them I think. If you find anything that needs drastic changes, however, please let me know.

Marcel[edit]

Why did you change Marcel's spelling and article? His official site says "Luske". Virtually every major site calls him "Luske" (73,000 versus 459 references in Google). Unless there is a very, very compelling reason, I don't think the Wikipedia should be spelling names differently than the person himself wants his name spelled. I'd encourage you to change it back, especially the main article. 2005 22:08, 27 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I understand there are a tiny number of sites out there spelling his name the other way, but I see no reason to ignore the wishes of the person himself and spell his name a non-standard way that hardly anyone uses. Having a redirect from Lüske to Luske certainly makes sense. Given the official site, we should accept that spelling. 2005 00:50, 28 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

criteria for player inclusion[edit]

I can't find on WP:Poker the criteria for including a player in a nationality category. It's re Greg Hemphill, who has two money finishes at the WSOP. Shouldn't we allow anyone who is in the Hendon Mob database if they have an existing page here? CalG 05:35, 27 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Sam Farha's apprentice[edit]

My apologies for deleting your reference I see your point, I was only trying link to the result of his 2nd place performance seeing as George Abdallah doesn’t have an article himself, with that being said, I must admit your tweaking has a superior look to it. Sirex98 23:12, 9 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Ross Boatman GA nomination[edit]

Unfortunately I don't think there's any official definition for "compelling prose," but that's a quote from the GA criteria. Given the subject matter, it would be a difficult task getting the prose to flow in that article, since for the most part you're just listing facts. Perhaps it might help to look at successful GAs in order to get an idea of the prose standard? Sorry for not being more helpful... I agree that the standard is a bit diffuse, but often it's just a matter of "you know it when you see it". MLilburne 14:05, 16 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I do agree that there's POV in the decision; I don't see how it could be otherwise, in fact. I didn't notice that your article on Joe Beevers had made GA; perhaps if I'd seen it I would have decided differently. Most of the successful GAs have had prose of a standard that actually caused me to take notice, and I'm afraid that Ross Boatman didn't. MLilburne 14:12, 16 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Best of luck with your work on it. I'm sorry to have had to have been picky. MLilburne 14:17, 16 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Ross Boatman revisions[edit]

That really looks a lot better, I'm impressed! I see you've re-nominated it for GA... I'll let someone else take a look at it this time, which will hopefully give a little more perspective. MLilburne 15:34, 16 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Unfortunately, I do not have much information on the results of the series. Thanks for taking the time to vote in my RfA, which passed with a final vote of 54/2/1 despite my obvious inadequacy for the job. I'll do my level best to use the mop and bucket — or, as I said in my RfA, plunger — responsibly. I've removed the message, I think the bot had one of it's one in a thousand to two thousands blame the wrong person bugs, it was somewhere around this diff [2]. Essentially what happened was 165.165.203.215 vandalised [3] and the bot somehow mistook you as the vandal and reverted to the version before you, it's an extremely rare bug that is a nightmare to debug, I'll have another look at it though. Chief, you removed something and called me a vandal for citing a fact that is referenced just as clearly as anything else in the article? The article states at the top that references are not cited. Poker players' images[edit]

Hi, I saw you updating poker articles so I think you are the correct person to ask. At the moment I translate articles about poker to de.wikipedia.org but I got a question now. In de.wikipedia.org it is not possible to use images tagged as "fair use" due to legal restrictions in Germany so there are some players without images on de. Do you know a good source to get images that are not copyrighted (GFDL would be ok) other than wikipedia-commons? --Greetz, Constructor 02:55, 19 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

When reading your questions, I realized that I worded my complaints badly.

  • By "Too short," I meant tht the article did not completely cover Ram Vaswani's life: for example, his early childhood (AKA: Who were his parents?)
  • I thought that an image actually showing him playing poker was in order.
  • And I meant exactly what I said about Trivia.

Re your comment about Gary in the 1997 WSOP Main Event. Yes, they paid 27/295, I was just going by what Gary had told me. If you think his 41st finish should be removed (on the basis it was not a ME cash finish), please do so. But I will confer with Gary on this matter. Also, if you feel that I have not licensed the picture correctly, I would appreciate it if you could fix it up. Gary sent me the photo from his personal collection. Ash73 01:33, 29 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

This is from Gary himself. If you consider this too subjective, I understand. But, would there be any basis to at least mention a 41st place finish in the body of the article? As he agrees, this cannot be corroborated.

"There was no official list of finishers after 27th so it can never be confirmed officially but I still remember it very clearly. We were down to 5 tables and I was counting the positions down as each person got knocked out. I was in the top ten of chip counts when I picked up KsQs in the big blind. As had happened on the previous 5 times I had played the big blind the button raised and because I had just been waiting for a hand to play against this guy I reraised expecting to take the pot then. He called and the flop came Kh7s2s. I hit top pair with a flush draw. I checked, my opponent bet and I moved all-in. He called and turned over AcKh. No help came for me on the turn or river and I was eliminated in 41st place.

The point is I remember the hand and situation very clearly. I had also saved a percentage with Mel Judah just before this as we had approximately the same chip stacks and, as you know, he went on to run 3rd. Of course none of this can be officially verified so if it is likely to cause a problem just leave it out." Ash73 07:14, 29 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]
