Congrats and a Paid Contributor Notice Query[edit]

Hi there!

Firstly, congrats on getting a draft through into mainspace - it's very difficult to do so as someone with a Paid COI since we look so carefully at it, but I think you did a good job at it. It still needs to be "patrolled" (that's like a second check that every single article goes through) but I'd be surprised if it fails that, given its quality.

Two things to note:

i) Now that it's an article, not a draft, if you have more than a typo or are correcting any vandalism, you need to suggest changes in the talk page rather than editing it directly. This comes with the nuisance if no-one is around to do it - for the moment I'd be happy to look at any changes you choose to make to it in the near-future (if any!).

ii) You've satisfied the base levels of notification for Conflict of Interest, however they could be improved if the proper templates were used (since they have the benefit of logging you onto the list of editors), as well as tagging the talk page of the shiny new article. Before I can suggest which template would work best I need to clarify something (it doesn't have any negative consequences!):

Are you being specifically paid for writing the article, either as a "write us an article" or a more general "market HMA in whichever fashion you think works best" or did you just choose to write an article on HMA because you knew it well?

Cheers :) Nosebagbear (talk) 15:35, 31 August 2018 (UTC)[reply]

@Nosebagbear:
Thank you Nosebagbear. The HideMyAss! page looks good. I have 3 items to get your input on:
i) Is it ok for me to upload a logo for the infobox?
ii) Is it possible for you to add a statement to the HMA Disambiguation page that reads something like: HideMyAss!, a VPN privacy software company
iii) Is there any way you can help us to get our website (www.hidemyass.com) un-blacklisted (I think it is blacklisted because of the word "ass") so we can add it as a link in the infobox?

Hi, so alas I suspect my answers aren't going to be very helpful, but my brief summary of thoughts
i) Image copyright is so complicated on wiki that I don't believe I'm qualified to answer. I'd suggest asking at the Helpdesk.
ii) Yes that's fine - I'll do so now
iii) This is an interesting one - you may well be right as to the reasons that it's blacklisted, since there doesn't seem a specific reason HMA would be blocked. I'd suggest also asking this on the the helpdesk as the first port of call, otherwise asking on the edit filter talk page might work. Nosebagbear (talk) 17:34, 13 September 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, I'm RonBot, a script that checks new non-free file uploads. I have found that the subject image that you recently uploaded was more than 5% in excess of the Non-free content guideline size of 100,000 pixels. I have tagged the image for a standard reduction, which (for jpg/gif/png/svg files) normally happens within a day. Please check the reduced image, and make sure that the image is not excessively corrupted. Other files will be added to Category:Wikipedia non-free file size reduction requests for manual processing. There is a full seven-day period before the original oversized image will be hidden; during that time you might want to consider editing the original image yourself (perhaps an initial crop to allow a smaller reduction or none at all). A formula for calculation the desired size can be found at WP:Image resolution, along with instructions on how to tag the image in the rare cases that it requires an oversized image (typically about 0.2% of non-free uploads are tagged as necessarily oversized). Please contact the bot owner if you have any questions, or you can ask them at Wikipedia talk:Non-free content. RonBot (talk) 17:20, 28 September 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Orphaned non-free image File:Avast-antivirus-logo.png[edit]

⚠

Thanks for uploading File:Avast-antivirus-logo.png. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

Note that any non-free images not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described in section F5 of the criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. --B-bot (talk) 17:24, 29 July 2019 (UTC)[reply]
