VPC in the Signpost?

Hey there! I had a thought - why not write an article about VPC and get it in an issue of the Wikipedia Signpost to draw more attention to the project!? So, if it's possible, could you answer a few questions with as many details as possible (I think I might have some of the facts wrong)?

So, what made you want to start Valued Pictures anyway?

Well, I had noticed that many images of exceptional value here on Wikipedia failed WP:FPC due to technical reasons, often including image size. I thought that Wikipedia was limited by its technical restrictions, and that if a project were created to recognize and acknowledge images of extraordinary encyclopaedic value, then Wikipedia would benefit from it. When I saw the success of the Commons valued images project, I decided that a similar project wouldn't be amiss here on the English Wikipedia.

Did you encounter a lot of support/opposition?

I found that lots of people supported the idea of a valued pictures project, and that since the concept of the project had already been proposed before, the initial starting-up of the project went suprisingly smoothly. Generally, consensus was in the favour of the project.

Who (if anyone) helped you with creating all of the pages/templates/categories for VPC?

I drew inspiration for the project form the work of the other users who had first proposed the project, namely jjron. The whole framework that had been created by the other users formed the base for the project as it is today.

What do you see the main purpose of VPC to be?

For me, the main purpose of VPC is to recognize and acknowlege images, diagrams and drawings of exceptional encyclopaedic value. Images who, for reasons of small size or imperfect technical quality may not become Fps, now have a place where they will be recognized for their worth.

Are you happy with the success that VPC has experienced so far?

I am happy with how VPC has started off, but I know there is still much more potential. Our biggest problem is that not enough people are aware of the project's existence, or of the fact that we are now up and running. All things considered, I believe that with a little more participation, this project will be able to realize its true potential.

Where do you see VPC in 6 months? 1 year? 5 years?

As time goes by, I hope to see more users become aware of the valued oictures project, and I hope that more people will be interested in nominating images and voting for nominations. As time goes by, the project will grow larger and become better. Our criteria are still under development, but I am sure that within no time at all we will have refined the project's standards to the desired level. As time goes by, I am sure the project will develop further, with more nominations coming in, and both more volunteers to help out, and more voters to vote.

Any more thoughts/tidbits/ideas?

I think that nominators should be bold in their choice of nominations. If you find an image that you think is valuable to an article, there is a good chance it will be. So go ahead and nominate it: not only will you be helping out, but you will be enabling the image you nominated to be recognized for its value.
