Cathy L. Lanier

You put a speedy delete onto the page of Cathy L. Lanier even before I was finished creating the initial version! She was selected to become the first woman police chief for Washington DC. I note that her predecessor Charles H. Ramsey has a page. She is a notable authority on homeland security (which is partly why she was chosen, at age 39, to be chief). Hi. I would like add that you seemed to have misused the speedy delete tag. Please note that the criteria for speedy deletion states that speedy deletes are for articles that do not "assert the importance or significance of its subject." This article clearly stated the importance of the subject as the incoming Washington D.C. police chief. If you disagree with her importance please note the following from the speedy delete criteria: "If the assertion is controversial or there has been a previous AfD, the article should be nominated for AfD instead." Shahrukh Khan

Hello, Ekantik, I noticed your contributions to Shahrukh Khan's article and I have some questions regarding them:

  • Why did you remove the citations for his announced movies and added movies to the filmography where he has no part in (like Krrish, where he is suppossed to play Krrish???)
  • Why did you add [citation needed] to Economic Honours? The reference was added earlier (see here:http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Shahrukh_Khan&oldid=88632450) along with other references and then removed.
  • Lots of references where removed in the process - why? I thought WP *likes* references. ;)

Hello PlumCouch, thanks for getting in touch with me about this. Here are my answers to your questions -
  • The citation for one announced movie ("I See You") was sourced to a site that is an unreliable source (see WP:RS) and is not suitable in a Wikipedia article under WP:BLP guidelines. I didn't add any movies though, that must have been done by someone else.
  • A citation is required for his qualification in Economics because the source for that information is similarly unreliable for reasons listed above. Under WP:BLP policies, unreliable sources cannot be used to provide information in Wikipedia. If Shah Rukh has graduated in Economics then it should be easy to find a reputable source that says so.
  • Again for reasons listed above, references have to be reputable in accordance with WP:BLP. Many of the references were not reputable and so they were removed. To be specific, information found on online websites is generally unreliable. Exceptions to the rule include articles from Rediff and other sites which are online editions of printed publications. Also, common sense has to be employed because a lot of filmi information (even from reputable sources) are gossip, innuendo and speculation so editors must be judicious in selecting which material to include.
  • I also removed lots of POV sentences and converted them to NPOV. I do not claim to be a perfect editor but hopefully I have brought the article to a standard that fits Wikipedia policies.

WP:BIO??

WP:BIO? Did you mean Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Hinduism? Thank you for the compliment on the mediation. Unfortunately, I became pressed with other matters and had to bow out, and the conflict eventually went to arbcom. I don't count it as a success story, although some things were resolved.
My comments on the Hinduism board were meant as a warning. Now that you are more familiar with the intesity and longevity of the conflict, I leave you to exercise your own judgement. I just didn't want a rush decision made without knowledge of the risk of disruption that may be involved. Feel free to discuss this with me further.   • Name change of cities in Karnataka: A straw poll was conducted on the proposal to change the name of cities in Karnataka, per the Nov 1, 2006 decision by the Karnataka government to rename them from the current anglicised forms. The result of the poll was to change the names. As controversial as the decision may be in the real world, the article Bangalore in Wikipedia still reflects the old name. You may be interested in knowing why. Dig the archives.
  • New Project Noticeboard (Shortcut:WP:INB): WikiProject India now sports a new colourful centralised noticeboard. An effort to make the noticeboard current and dynamic was mooted a few days back, and Ganeshk came up with the new format. The new noticeboard will strive to be the one-stop shop for all project related information. The shortcut is WP:INB.
  • Members List: The old members list is being phased out to give way for the new members list. New members are requested to add their names to the new members list. As the newsletter grows, further issues of the Project Newsletter will be delivered to those enlisted in the new list. So dash down now, to check if ur name is in there.

Rani's Page

Well, if you think the article reads like a resume, then why don't you fix it? I only reverted your edits because you removed ten references which I worked hard for and you reduced the length of the page. If you want it to read like a biography, fix it again but this time, don't remove any references. And if you do cut the length, find out about something else, add a new section to make it to the same length or more, be creative. Thanks! I think your edits were good, just don't remove my work on references. Restructure the sentences if you don't like them. Thanks. -User:shez_15

Neutral Editor?

Ekantik, can you please explain this edits by Gaurasundara: Refs: 01 02? Why are you using two names? For those who may not know, Gaurasundara is not a neutral party in the Sai Controversy and even attempted to get his profile deleted for some unknown reason [1]. He is one of the most vocal opponents of Sathya Sai Baba on the internet (otherwise known as Sanjay Dadlani) and is notorious for his shameless defamations against him. Not only did Gaurasundara's first edit on his userpage come from Ekantik's page [2], Ekantik was the very first person to greet him [3]. You need to come clean about your association with Gaurasundara and your alleged statements about being a neutral editor. SSS108 talk-email 16:29, 7 December 2006 (UTC)

Controversy?

Dear Ekantik, I'm afraid that I'm always involved in controversies. I really should stick to dry-as-dust articles with no religious/ethnic/national/political implications :) These days, it's the articles on Purushottam Nagesh Oak and an acrimonious discussion at the Village Pump (policy) on the desirability of including caste info in Indian biographical articles. Bakasuprman et al. believe that I'm anti-Hindu. That's a strange charge to level against Bollywood-watching dal-eating me but ... I suppose it's like some US Republicans claiming that anyone who opposes them is anti-American and probably in the pay of Al Qaeda. (They'd hate me too; I have a jail record for demonstrating peacefully -- satyagraha -- against the Vietnam War.)

I'm convinced that a large part of the problem is structural. My own panacea is we should raise the bar on heavily edited articles. Say, once an article goes over 10,000 edits then you'd have to have been an editor for three months and done 2,000 edits before you could edit the article. People would have to earn the right to mouth off on controversial topics. It wouldn't shut down controversy (some opinionated and aggressive editors have high edit counts) but it would mute it somewhat. Zora 08:11, 24 December 2006 (UTC)

I'd like to know why you thought it would be useful for Wikipedia to divide Category:Sathya Sai Baba into further divisions of Sai devotees and Sai activists? Do you think that such a division is useful for Wikipedia? Ekantik talk 04:32, 26 December 2006 (UTC)
What is wrong with it? If there can be a category page with famous Muslims (Category:Muslims) than why can't there be a category page with famous followers (or opponents) of SSB. Moreover, I considered this division into subcategories useful because before in the Category:Sathya Sai Baba there were lots of meaningless names and when I grouped them into two subcategories it was at once clear who was pro-SSB and who was anti-SSB. Fair enough, but I might agree with Mel's suggestion of a speedy renaming at the very least. The split-ups are far too long and do not look tidy on article pages. As far as adding it on several articles, you could get away with it if it was small and unnoticed but, as Abecedecare said, their devotion to SSB is not a defining characteristic of their notability so it is troublesome. Due to your admission of being an SSB-follower, I can understand your enthusiasm to list several people as followers of SSB, leave alone setting up categories for the purposes of categorising them. However there is a serious question of notability and reliable sources. In your enthusiasm to categorise several people as followers of SSB you may have overlooked notability and RS. When you move a proposal for a category rename to the category-deletion page, could you inform the proposer? It took me some time to discover that my proposal hadn't simply been deleted, and to uncover where it had been moved. Kkrystian's Complaint

(My response copied from Thatcher's talk page, also on my talk page, and which I would appreciate you responding on my talk page instead of taking up Admin's valuable time.)

I wish to complain about Ekantik's behaviour. He is unfairly criticising and attacking me and my Wikipedia edits to Sathya Sai Baba-related articles. This is what he wrote on the User_talk:Mel Etitis:

Huh, what? Where did I "unfairly criticise" or "attack" you? I merely questioned your dividing of Category:Sathya Sai Baba (into 'follower' and 'opponent' categories) because I do not think that such a division is justified. I am surprised how you are making this frivolous complaint even after you have explained your rationale on my talk page (diff) and which I agreed with (diff) and made further suggestions about renaming. The question about your COI has been addressed there in line with WP policies and guidelines. However, it not looks like there are two other editors who are generally disagreeing with your recent category activity and your behaviour (See your talk page), and for the record, I'm uncomfortable with the way you don't take responsibility for your own edits by constantly constructing your arguments by referring to the what other editors (in this case SSS108) say. It also turns out that you have been making edits to renaming proposals and modifying my own comments on my talk page (diff), which is a strict no-no. Your activity has even led to other editors mistaking your edits for my own (See my talk page).
Perhaps you should take a small refresher course by taking the time to read WP:5, WP:T, and WP:NCH. You may also like to read WP:EQ. I'd also appreciate it if you could inform me on my talk page the next time you register a complaint or do anything where my response is required. Unblock Granted

This was an autoblock. The user was affected by a block on another user, Consumed Crustacean (talk · contribs), as you can see here. If you haven't heard about autoblocks, you can read more about them at WP:AUTOBLOCK. It is possible these two users are in fact the same person but I had no evidence of this. I was not the blocking admin, only the autoblock-lifting admin in this case. --Yamla 15:26, 18 January 2007 (UTC)

Its good to see nother British Indian here... I happened to see your exchange with Zora at Talk:Shilpa Shetty. I've tried to explain it to her that caste doesnt necessarily have racist connotations in India. She simply refuses to believe that caste is the primary identifying factor for many if not most Indians. He behaviour is getting a touch irrtating, i've stopped editing bolly articles! Good to see you too. Yes I'm getting to know that this is something of a controversial issue. At Talk:Shilpa Shetty it appears that she admitted that there is nothing in WP policies as such and that she may have to seek something in that regard. Cripes! My definition of caste is the Brahmin, Kshat, Vaisya, Sudra. Bunt/Iyer/etc are closer defined as clans or tribes.Bakaman 00:39, 20 January 2007 (UTC)

  • Project tagging:After a brief edit war over the addition of {{WP India}} to ancient archaeological sites now located in Pakistan, a "pre" parameter was introduced to remove the ROI flag from the template for pre-1947 articles, following discussion. After another large discussion on ANI alleging that the automated tagging by Ganeshbot and LostBot was "nationalistic", Ganeshbot was briefly blocked. Currently, the bots are again in action.
  • Swastika on Hinduism templates:Recently, an extremely large and at times emotional debate broke out regarding the use of the swastika on Hinduism templates, given its association with Nazism. As a result, {{Hindu Links}} now contains an educational message about the use of the swastika, as discussion on a more permanent resolution continues.

Good Work on films

Your welcome my friend. I have started compiling lists of missing films by country. An A-Z list of missing Indian films which haven't been sorted yet apart from the very beginning. First missing film on list was Aa Ab Laut Chalen which I started amongst others yesterday - I hope this is up to standards. I did contact a memebr of Indian cinema and I beleived that the list of missing films would be a very useful tool for your project but for some reason I kind of got abuse from him telling me that i am a complete waste of time! was very surprised to get that response particularly as I don;t think he is aware of my 35,000 contributions to the project. My work on India will be part of my global work on films by country (I have say that Indian film is very attractive) I have started with Argentina see Category:Argentine films there were only about 9 films 6 weeks ago and now there are almost 180 already! e.g El Crimen Del Padre Amaro a mexican-Argentine film was also started yesterday. I feel that Shilpa Shetty is a major name at the moment and with her name on the headlines I felt many red links on her page was not a good look for wikipedia. I have started now started s number of earlier films for Shilpa Shetty Zameer: The Awakening of a Soul , Auzaar, Chhote Sarkar, Himmat, Hathkadi and Aao Pyaar Karen. I will start the remainders in the coming days. I ahve written it into her carrer section on her page. By the way the surpise nasty reaction I got was from User:Zora. When I have time I wil sort through the entire list and red link all of the missing Indian films from wikipedia ready for starting. O foucrse many films not notable enough for an article will be rmeoved, Feel free to activate links and bullet point them all. I just started Aakrosh for Shilpa but I'll have to leave Indian film for a while now to continue with mapping out the missing articles an the rest of the other countries. If you believe this image is not replaceable, please:

  1. Go to the image description page and edit it to add {{Replaceable fair use disputed}}, without deleting the original Replaceable fair use template.
  2. On the image discussion page, write the reason why this image is not replaceable at all.

You can read about how to request permission at Wikipedia:Requesting copyright permission. Note specifically that it is not sufficient to get permission just for the Wikipedia. As to the other image (I'm sorry, I forget which image it is), please note that we may only use freely-licensed images to depict living people. That is, an image released from copyright or one licensed under the GFDL or some such license. Image question

The license permits it. However, I have serious concerns about the source. The account has uploaded only this image. As such, we really would need additional confirmation that the uploader took this image with his own camera. That is, some evidence that this person is not simply taking credit for someone else's work. I'm not trying to be difficult here, it's just that this image was only uploaded yesterday by a person who has only this image as a contribution. Auras

I'm afraid you're wrong. The view that auras are scientific is not only supported by Semyon Kirlian. It is also supported by other scientists. About a year ago I read about a Russian scientist conducting serious scientific research using the Kirlian camera. Krystian 19:47, 12 February 2007 (UTC)

No need to get clever, it is something I told you on my talk-page. However, I have already explained that I was taking the liberty of refactoring (See WP:REFACTOR for more information) your comment because you took the step of revealing my real name without my permission. Administrator Jossi did the same thing at Talk:Sathya Sai Baba when SSS108 violated this same principle (several times). If I was to assume good faith, I'd expect you to do it yourself, but since your second comment has revealed another of my off-Wiki aliases, I am finding it hard to assume good faith and have no choice but to expect further hostile treatment from you.
