Chelsea Manor Street

Thank you for your "thank"! Forty years ago I lived in Chesil Court, and WP:OR forbids me to add that so did the Longfords. I recall seeing them hovering in the lobby in evening dress one night and I legged upstairs to peer over the balcony to see whom they were waiting for. It was the then Prince of Wales. Also resident in the block were Cecil Madden and Harry Fowler, but alas I have no citation. I used to see Humphrey Lyttelton in the lobby sometimes, but I don't know if he maintained a flat there in addition to his main home in Barnet. Tim riley talk 22:50, 7 December 2022 (UTC)

And thank you for thanking me for thanking you, Tim. I have been slowly creating articles for Chelsea streets, living nearby. Almost all have notable people and buildings. Sat next to Frank Longford at dinner many moons ago. Quite a character. Chesil Court always has a fine Christmas tree in the lobby this time of year. According to Cracrofts Peerage, his son Patrick lived at 24 Chesil Court. And Roy Strong's diaries mentions a dinner on 7 July (year?) at the Longford flat. Isabelle Westbury doesn't look like the same person either. File:Isabelle Westbury running.jpg is of the cricketer, which is not the same skin colour as File:Isabelle Westbury 20191205.jpg. Piers Court

Hi Edward, First, apologies. I got a a bit carried away with Piers Court. I hope I’ve not trodden on your toes too much! I think I’m about done for now, but I have left a query on the Talkpage. I think I might have been a bit too definite about the fate of the library. The problem is that the sources use “library” interchangeably both for Waugh’s books, and for the library fixtures and fittings, e.g. the bookcases. So it’s not clear whether both went with Waugh to Combe Florey, or whether he had another constructed at CF and the Ransom Center then bought both - and the books. I shall do some more digging. In my humble opinion, Piers Court is the more attractive house. And it’s £2.5M cheaper. But then there is the small matter of the sitting tenant, and their, umm…, chequered history! KBEs

Im unclear as to the reversal of the edits to various pages containing KBEs and other such titles. You state that if it’s from another country it is not applicable but that is not stated in Wiki rules or true in reality either. You might be referring to how in the UK non UK citizens cannot be referred to as Sir or Dame and the associated OBE but the designation of KBE was made for non UK Citizens and can be used freely. I will add back in this association on various pages as hopefully this clarifies the point. SamuelFisherman (talk) 23:20, 29 January 2023 (UTC)

  • SamuelFisherman Policy on this is clear. Please refer to the first sentence of MOS:POSTNOM (which I have linked to in my edit summaries), "When the subject of an article has received honours or appointments issued either by the subject's state of citizenship or residence, or by a widely recognized organization that reliable sources regularly associate with the subject, post-nominal letters may be included in the lead section." None of the people concerned are or have been British citizens or residents. Edwardx (talk) 00:04, 30 January 2023 (UTC)
    The policy may be clear but I unfortunately dont agree that your read of it is complete.
    Two points:
    1. You are crucially missing the second part of the sentence in your analysis which is "by a widely recognized organization that reliable sources regularly associate with the subject". First part: I think the UK being a recognised organisation is obvious. Second part: In your case both Ralph Lauren and Paul Polman have clear associations with the UK with Polman even having run the UK largest company. Both maintain foundations in the UK and even own companies based in the UK.
    2. You also are assuming the country of residence for none of these are the UK. Polman specifically runs a UK based company called Imagine and Lauren has been UK resident in the past.
    Regardless of if you agree with point 2 or not, which no reason why you shouldn't, point 1 is strong enough that the KBE should be re-instated. They clearly would not have won the award had there been no UK association.

You have misunderstood the second part of the sentence. "or by a widely recognized organization ... " means post-nominals associated with organizations such as the Royal Society (eg John/Jane Doe FRS etc). When was Ralph Lauren a UK resident? Nothing about this in his article. As for Paul Polman, was he ever formally a UK resident? Is Imagine UK-based? Sources? And where are the details of these foundations and companies in their articles? As always, we must observe Wikipedia:Biographies of living persons, Wikipedia:Citing sources, and Wikipedia:Reliable sources. Edwardx (talk) 12:34, 30 January 2023 (UTC)
A VERY quick google and you can find the information. For example the linkedin page of Imagine showing its London location.

According to LinkedIn, London is their primary location. For LinkedIn as a source, please see Wikipedia:Reliable sources/Perennial sources - "is considered generally unreliable and should be avoided unless the post is used for an uncontroversial self-description." So, okay for the London claim, but not much else. In any event, on Imagine's website Polman is listed as "Co-Founder & Chair Emeritus", so this makes no tangible contribution to his "state of citizenship or residence" for the purposes of MOS:POSTNOM. Polmans own linkedin account states him as based in United Kingdom. His identity as owner of the page can be confirmed and thus is considered reliable.
It is uncommon to question that somebody would live in a country in which they ran a large company for 10 years and subsequently co-founded a company. There are countless links for both Polman and Lauren...again neither would have received a rare award if that was not the case.
Again, assuming no further comments I will leave it to you to revert or I can attend to it in time. SamuelFisherman (talk) 20:40, 31 January 2023 (UTC)

In case anyone is curious as to what this "attack page" might be, it was a simple redirect from "Rich Boy Rishi" to Rishi Sunak. This was part of a batch created in October 2022, along with redirects prompted by Joe Biden's mispronunciation of his name as Rashee/Rashi Sanook, and redirects for his parents and children. Perhaps "Rich Boy Rishi" was a redirect too far, yet hardly an attack page. It was somewhat used at the time, but never achieved the popularity of say "Dishy Rishi". Are there reliable sources using "Rich Boy Rishi"? If not it seems like a bit of silliness that should be deleted. I have never heard the phrase. Agree the warning about creating an attack page is nonsense. Philafrenzy (talk) 14:06, 15 March 2023 (UTC)
The leading search engine returns 3,200 results for "Rich Boy Rishi". It does get at least passing mentions in reliable sources, but never achieved wide currency. Perhaps it was too obvious and a tad boorish. Rishi Rich was already taken, and Richie Rich has a long history dating back at least to a 1953 comic book, Richie Rich (character). But plenty are "rich boy Rishi" and "rich boy" Rishi which are very different to "Rich Boy Rishi". Not sure if there is a rule about it but I would think that nicknames would need very strong evidence before being valid redirects, particularly as there are plenty of Richs and probably Rishis around. I will nominate it for deletion if I can find the button. Sophia Money-Coutts really exists and always makes me smile. But she's not nearly as wealthy as Rishi. Cini Boeri

Hello Edwardx, thank you for tidying-up the Cini Boeri (and Vignelli) articles. One of the awards may actually merit inclusion in the Infobox (and certianly in the article itself): the Order of Merit of the Italian Republic, which Boeri received in 2011 (this honour is presented by the nation's president in a ceremony at the Quirinale presidential palace in Rome, and is probably similar in importance to a KBE in the UK). -- Cl3phact0 (talk) 16:04, 22 April 2023 (UTC)
