Header?[edit]

It wouldn't be the worst idea in the world if an admin put a note at the top of the page with some short description text. It won't break anything and it would probably help passing users understand the bot a bit better. I'd say to use a template ({{../Header}} or something) but that would allow unprivileged users to gain access to the bot, as the bot looks for any user or user talk page links. Not that I care about who uses the bot, but the page is protected to prevent this and all. --MZMcBride (talk) 14:39, 30 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Access to bot?[edit]

I'd like to be added to the bot's access list if possible (User:EdwardsBot/Access list). I'm hoping to use the bot to deliver the newsletter for WP:FILM. I'll be away for a day or so tomorrow but I could be added in that time I'd be able to sort out the delivery when I get back. Thanks to whoever sees to this. GRAPPLE X 04:14, 29 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Re-adding this on the target page just to see if it draws any extra attention, as the notice on bot's talk page hasn't so far. GRAPPLE X 23:30, 2 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I know how to stalk a wiki. I saw the request at User talk:EdwardsBot and here. I can't do anything about it. Someone will clear the edit protected requests queue at some point. Or not. HighBeam account signups notification[edit]

{{edit request}} Hi! 400+ people signed-up/opted in for a free HighBeam Research account at WP:HighBeam/Applications. I need to deliver each one instructions on activating their account as well as a {you've got mail} notice that their account activation code has be sent to their email. This would run once between now and April 16th. Can I be added to the list? Thanks and cheers, Ocaasi t | c 10:41, 10 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]

HighBeam Redux[edit]

There are 175 new account applications for HighBeam accounts. I need to email account activation codes (using User:MadmanBot) and also mass message the Talk pages of those users for two reasons: 1) To remind them to activate their English Wikipedia email in their preferences, including the ability to receive messages; also, to notify them that the accounts have or will soon be sent. Last time I did this I left out a closing >/sup< tag which left subsequent talk page messages in superscript. To avoid that this time, I will test the message manually on my talk page and can submit it for review before running the bot. Discussion of that prior mishap is here: User_talk:EdwardsBot. Since the codes are going to be mailed out in the next day or two, I'd like to use EdwardsBot one time, today or tomorrow. Thanks, Ocaasi t | c 19:04, 2 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Okay, as mentioned before, I don't have any issue with re-adding you to the access list and giving you another shot at this. Regarding the message below, please make sure you add a timestamp to it, when delivering. Some archiving bots require timestamps in threads, so that's an important addition. - Kingpin13 (talk) 20:14, 2 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Here is the exact text of the message to be sent (except it will be a level-2 header):

Your free 1-year HighBeam Research account is ready[edit]

Good news! You are approved for access to 80 million articles in 6500 publications through HighBeam Research.

  • Codes will be emailed by the end of this week.
  • You must enable your English Wikipedia email through Special:Preferences including checking the box to receive messages from other users.
  • The 1-year, free period begins when you enter the code.
  • To activate your account: 1) Go to http://www.highbeam.com/prof1
  • If you need assistance, email "help at highbeam dot com", and include "HighBeam/Wikipedia" in the subject line. Or go to WP:HighBeam/Support, or ask User:Ocaasi. Please, per HighBeam's request, do not call the toll-free number for assistance with registration.
  • A quick reminder about using the account: 1) try it out; 2) provide original citation information, in addition to linking to a HighBeam article; 3) avoid bare links to non-free HighBeam pages; 4) note "(subscription required)" in the citation, where appropriate. Examples are at WP:HighBeam/Citations.
  • HighBeam would love to hear feedback at WP:HighBeam/Experiences
  • Show off your HighBeam access by placing {{User:Ocaasi/highbeam_userbox}} on your userpage
  • When the 1-year period is up, check applications page to see if renewal is possible. We hope it will be.

Thanks for helping make Wikipedia better. Enjoy your research! Cheers, Ocaasi t | c 20:25, 2 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Hi friends. I would like to have access to the BOT. I work a lot at WP:AFC and it gets backlogged every 2 weeks or some, thus on behalf of the project I can help. I also try to help out at WP:INCOTM where there are two messages to deliver per month (one about selection steps about an article and other for notifying that which was selected). This work was previously carried out manually by a fellow editor but the member list is increasing. Though, my main intention is about WP:AFC, like it is currently backlogged with around 1000 submissions pending reviews. If had access, I could run the bot and do the work by my own instead of seeking help.
