Eh?[edit]

What the hell is wrong with contractions? I'd like to see policy cited against them; it seems like a stylistic preference.--SeizureDog (talk) 09:55, 13 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

They aren't formal writing. You'll note I've never actually held an article back for that, but overuse of them would make the prose informal. Ealdgyth | Talk 15:27, 13 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I agree. One note, though: contractions appear in your list twice. (Also, initials, when more than one, should have spaces between them in addition to full stops.) Waltham, The Duke of 03:51, 13 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Thought I had copied it to my sandbox but the link still come here. --Jim Sweeney (talk) 16:02, 22 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

comments[edit]

1. Good stuff.

2. The long list at the end would be easier to process for readers if organized into categories and (if possible) with some sequencing. The act of organizing might also drive further thinking on the topic.

3. Disagree with the comment about not setting image size. It's not policy. It's a view sure. But there are those with the opposite. And it's not policy. On content, what percentage of readers have a user preference set? Remember that the vast majority of readers don't even have an account. Also, I heard somewhere that only a few hundred users total had set an image view preference. Also, consider how images are normally viewed on the web and if micro pictures (or requiring people to click on things and go out of article) is really best layout practice (would you do it for a company or non-profit website)?

Basically, this is MY cheatsheet - if folks choose to link to it, so be it, but I maintain it as a memory jog to me of things I need to remember ... and I don't really worry about updating it when things change. Image size rules have changed, I haven't updated this to reflect that because it's quite frankly not high on my list. Ealdgyth - Talk 22:26, 24 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]
It's good stuff. Kudos, man! TCO (talk) 00:01, 25 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Linking from a helpdesk[edit]

I am working on a kind of help desk for good articles (sandboxed here) and have linked to this cheatsheet. Let me know if you don't want it linked and I will remove it. Thanks AIRcorn (talk) 05:43, 5 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]
