Y'all, I LOVE how the place looks. Thanks for contributing![edit]

Interior design[edit]

I like what you've done with the place. Very European: modern, spacious and airy. You just need a fern. But this is all I could find for the moment.

ChildofMidnight (talk) 02:33, 7 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks! I love it! Ha, all the less clutter for Rosie to destroy--she's coming home tomorrow. Thanks again! Drmies (talk) 03:01, 7 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

As the resident music expert what do you make of this article up for AfD: Peter Hill (photographer)? This one also seems interesting The Diary (film). I'm pretty upset that the Dutch are discriminating against me based on my nationality, these are tough times, but I will try to forgiving. ChildofMidnight (talk) 05:15, 8 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I guess the movie never happened. I'm leaning towards delete on the photographer. I find very small children are indeed a bit like aliens. :) Isn't it great that you have a Texas Longhorn on your page??? WOO HOO!!! Check this link out. They're watching everything we do!!! [1] ChildofMidnight (talk) 05:41, 8 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Don't get em mad...

Andre Smith is predicted to go seventh, right after Jerraud Powers.[2] ChildofMidnight (talk) 06:13, 8 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Not to worry, I saw your note on the Netherlands and its discriminatory bias against Yanks, and I believe I understood your comments quite well actually. Do you think Andre Smith will show up for big games as a pro? Best to you, Rosie and the Missus. Who are you pulling for tonight? ChildofMidnight (talk) 21:12, 8 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Perhaps because of my own intellectual bias, I was leaning towards a weak delete on South Jersey Paranormal Research, but there are quite a lot of citations to reliable sources. Although it's not stupendously substantial coverage and they haven't been covered nationally, several editors have done some work on the article and I wonder what your take is? ChildofMidnight (talk) 22:02, 8 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Sadly, not everyone appreciates my comic genius. What do you make of the discussion here Ayn Rand? have you had a look at the South Jersey ghostbuster article? I'll have to go check... ChildofMidnight (talk) 01:53, 9 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

One of your socks [3]? I'm glad to see you've come around on Jerraud. Utah, Texas and Florida are great co-champions. ChildofMidnight (talk) 06:00, 9 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Did you know or just suspect that I would improve that article? (chuckle) Feel free to wade in now if you wish, as the article is now expanded and sourced to show her notability as both an actress AND as a director. No doubt about it... she has received decent coverage that easily passes WP:N. And though IMDB did not prove notability, it allowed me to use various search parameters alnongside her name to find her connected with Broadway, The Collective, and Tekken... the three major assertions in the article. Thanks for bringing it to my attention. Best, Schmidt, MICHAEL Q. 08:00, 7 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Re Blocked user sending you e-mails[edit]

If you're unhappy with the e-mails that the user in question is sending you, I would strongly urge you to contact a checkuser who can confirm the details of what you say and block the user from sending you (and anybody else) further e-mails in future. If the user in question already has your e-mail address, there's not much we can do in such a case, but if you're receiving e-mails through Wikipedia's E-mail this user function, we can certainly be of assistance in such a case. I hope this may prove helpful advice. Regards, Nick (talk) 13:52, 7 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

"Talk to my wife about it."
Careful with this on your eard

Deletopedia is almost eerie to me, in that it's sort of the place where things that don't really exist (well, not for long on Wikipedia, anyway) go to live on as ghosts in their own dark world. Oh, and another facial hair item for which I cannot think of a name: the patch between the lower lip and the chin? I always forget to shave that, b/c mine is too thin. My wife has also pointed out that, "You can always tell if a guy has a girlfriend or wife or not by whether the back of his neck is shaved." I wonder if that region needs a name. Jlg4104 (talk) 18:15, 7 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

It's called a "soul patch". I would have thought that whether the back of someone's neck is shaved would be more a reflection of his species ;) Bongomatic 06:18, 8 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Hey now, are you implying that I'm a monkey two weeks out of every month?? (That would be an insult to monkeys...) Drmies (talk) 16:44, 8 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Soul patch! Of course! BTW, congrats. Yes, I think newborns all come with eards. Ours did. One still has hers (3 1/2 months old). My eards are pretty thin, but I do have to shave the rims of my ears. Aside from nose hair and those tufts that grow around the ear-hole, the ear-rim hairs are perhaps the most revolting. I don't wanna get old (but I'm halfway there...). My grandfather had the whole line-- eard, nostrache (well, not quite but almost), etc. When he was laid up for a couple weeks, his beard grew in and he had whisker all the way up to just under his eyes. Anyway, something just "skeeves" me (as my wife would put it) about all of this! Jlg4104 (talk) 19:34, 8 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks! Congrats to you too. And thanks for all the other info. Perhaps we should shave this thread; some readers might think we're not serious scholars. (PS--I can't help it, each time I see eard and nostrache I crack up...) Sleepily, Drmies (talk) 19:35, 8 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Consider it shaven! Take it easy. Jlg4104 (talk) 19:42, 8 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Re Rosie's eard-- that a serious eard! All that newborn hair goes away eventually. They are hairy little things! Somehow it's cute on a baby. On a grown man-- not so much. Jlg4104 (talk) 02:16, 11 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]
  • By the way... when I first saw the term "throatee" I thought of something completely different... Jlg4104 (talk) 20:05, 14 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Rhubarb growing

Friends of yours? Here [4] and here [5]. And you were worried about a little ghostbusting in South Jersey. That discussion is just getting good! ChildofMidnight (talk) 18:59, 9 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Hey, not *every* vandal is a sock of mine! You have to admit, "JAMES BAKER LIKES TO SHOVE RHUBARB UP HIS NANS TRESURE CHEST" is pretty funny... I do love rhubarb, by the way. Drmies (talk) 19:05, 9 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Not so funny if you're James Baker or the rhubarb. ;) Your page was looking so nice, and now look at it. Tsk tsk. ChildofMidnight (talk) 20:13, 9 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]
I'm not so sure that "regifting" your generous *cough* offering *cough* will be well received. I've already been accused of being a belligerent and impulsive character today, and that was after trying to help the person. :) I'm going to go run on the beach. All this paranormal behavior is starting to get to me. ChildofMidnight (talk) 21:30, 9 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

RE: Wikipedia:Articles_for_deletion/Log/2009_January_10#Oy_.28Dark_Tower.29

What does herman melville have to do with Oy? travb (talk) 18:41, 10 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

It has to do with me, and goes like this: I think Melville is a great writer and King is a bad writer. StarM votes Merge even though she is a huge King fan; that is, she'd rather keep it since she is a fan. I vote Merge even though I am a huge Melville fan; that is, I'd rather see everything deleted that's associated with King. So we meet in the middle, StarM and I. I hope that clears it up. Thanks, Drmies (talk) 19:08, 10 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Drmies - you wrote: Grutness, I don't get it--did I say something to offend you? Grutness...wha? 05:18, 11 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

S'alright. Re-reading it I can see how you might have thought it was aimed at you - sorry that it gave that impression :) Grutness...wha? 05:46, 11 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Ayn Rand[edit]

Hi, I've filed an RfM on Ayn Rand, including as parties only those who've recently edited the article. However, as you've commented on talk, you might want to be involved too. If so, please add your name to the list of parties at Wikipedia:Requests for mediation/Ayn Rand. Cheers, SlimVirgin talk|contribs 02:29, 12 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

See the fun I bring you in on? There's a wp:ani thread also. Good times! I hope you, Rosie and the Missus are enjoying good times. Are you still jamming out to Creepmime? Is the WWII movie done by the director of Robocop any good? ChildofMidnight (talk) 03:49, 12 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Yeah, I just saw that, and I already got involved (by lowercasing 'objectivism'). I don't know if that puts me in with TallNapoleon or not, haha. Seriously, that is kind of a mess, and do you think I could be of any help? You know (maybe you don't) that I don't really care much for her as a philosopher...but I like good clean Wikipedia articles, you know that.
Hey, good times...our older daughter had a hard time getting to sleep, but she ate all her dinner! Rosie is as easy as can be--as easy at age one week as Elisabeth was difficult, haha. I did give up on Creepmime. That CD, well, it's a CD, and it doesn't stink of dog poop. But it's not very good. Now, Soldaat van Oranje, I saw it once and I guess it was alright. It certainly is a classic in the Dutch film industry, and now that I just had a look at the article, maybe I should see it again. I taped 24, so I got plenty to do tonight. And, how was your run on the beach?
Get back to me on Rand and tell me what you think, if you don't mind. I'll be sort of on the sideline anyway. Later! Drmies (talk) 04:06, 12 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]
I ate all my dinner too. I'm glad Rosie seems to be enjoying her beginnings out in the world. I could have told you Creepmime sucked if you had asked me. What kind of name is Creepmime anyway? I didn't think that movie was called Soldier of Orange in the United States. I'll have to check on that. Sometimes they give different titles to movies released in different markets. Anyway, I like Children of God and Chungking Express (though it's a bit long in parts). And of course the Royal Tenenbaums, a biographical account of my family life. Did you watch any F-ball? Any thoughts? The Giants lost so it's all good. :) Winter is over here. It was quite cold for a while since I couldn't figure out how to light the pilot for the heater. But it's warming up and the days are getting longer now so it's all good. My birthday is coming up, of course, and I can't wait to see what you're going to get me! Don't spend more than $1,000. Party on my man. And stay away from Ayn Rand you commie. ChildofMidnight (talk) 04:58, 12 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]
OK, if you insist, I'm in. Didn't watch anything, really--all my faves are out. I'll be rooting for the cards, cause I was a Rams fan way back when, when they won it twice. Keep warm, let the dog sleep in bed! Oh, for your birthday, I got it covered. Just don't slam the door when a Warren Sapp lookalike (so you think!) shows up on your doorstep. He doesn't like doors slammed. Drmies (talk) 05:32, 12 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Touching tribute[edit]

I see you forgot to log in here [6], but I thought your tribute was touching. ChildofMidnight (talk) 18:59, 12 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

You know it...it was a moment of weakness, I confess. BTW, did you know that Ayn Rand and I were on the same boat from the Old World? And how are things? Creating any cool articles? Drmies (talk) 19:17, 12 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]
That would explain your communist tendencies. Karl Marx and his buddies found refuge in Western Europe, but no such luck for Ayan Hirsi Ali. ;) I've never been to Pink's. I don't wait in lines. I also try to steer clear of the over-hyped tourist traps frequented by Midwesterners and aspiring starlets. I know a place with great kobe burgers and prosciutto & arugula pizza. There's great Brazilian churrasco at the Farmers Market (Los Angeles). And Joan's on Third has tremendous prepared salads and sandwiches. There are a couple of good BBQ joints too with some fine renditions of pulled pork sandwiches. The Redeye gaper is a good looking fish, no question about it. I considered restoring that edit with a citation needed tag, but despite the fish's obvious movie-star qualities, I decided the claim was probably original research and thus would be difficult to substantiate with reliable sources.ChildofMidnight (talk) 19:55, 12 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Kobe beef
Stop! No more! I have to settle for a granola bar, that's all I got--and I saw a kobe burger on TV yesterday...mouthwatering...Keep your gourmet food to yourself, sir. Drmies (talk) 20:09, 12 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Bread, water and hard tack is it? And yet the Peoples' Daily said agricultural production is up 400%. Are you telling me there is no prosciutto and tri-tip collective? Should we bring the issue up with representatives of the politburo or do you think a taste for these foods is a sure sign of bourgeoisie class affiliation and reactionary interests? ChildofMidnight (talk) 21:00, 12 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Haha, it's quite simple--can't afford the stuff! Oh, if only once I could feel that tender, raw Kobe beef in my mouth... (well, then I'd probably want it again.) Drmies (talk) 04:07, 13 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Making yourself useful[edit]

As I've put the kibbosh on any Ayn Rand mediation for the time being, perhaps you'd be interest in weighing in on User talk:Cannibaloki#Revision history of List of Megadeth band members which is listed at wp:30. Basically you remove it from the list (noting so in your edit summary) and then you play Solomon on that article's talk page. Good luck! ChildofMidnight (talk) 22:29, 12 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

As they probably got wind that you were getting ready to arbitrate, I don't blame them for reconsidering. Are you going to weigh in on exopolitics or have you had enough of the paranormal? I really touched off a firestorm on that one. ChildofMidnight (talk) 23:58, 12 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

The Ayn Rand saga, Wikipedia's coverage of topics and some related topics are discussed in several threads on this page [7], that of the founder of this enterprise. ChildofMidnight (talk) 01:42, 13 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Wow. That was some exchange. P.D. is not a very civil person. So--you got kicked out of the Garden of Eden after you kicked arbitration out of Ayn Rand's fountainhead? Tsk tsk. Oh, I looked at exopolitics--sheesh, we need an article on that? Perhaps you should do what I do when I need to calm down--hit "Random article" and start fixing commas and finding articles. Happy days! Go watch the tape of 24! Drmies (talk) 03:52, 13 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Request for Arbitration[edit]

A request for arbitration has been filed with the Arbitration Committee that lists you as a party. The Arbitration Committee requires that all parties listed in an arbitration must be notified of the aribtration. You can review the request at 8. If you are unfamiliar with arbitration on Wikipedia, please refer to Wikipedia:Arbitration. Idag (talk) 01:11, 13 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Go ahead and remove yourself from the mediation and arbitration requests. I sympathize, I usually try to avoid drama. Idag (talk) 04:35, 13 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Bah. I did not see that the filing party said it was alright to remove you. As such, I reverted your edit. Idag, will you please go remove the part, that way it is clear you are alright with it? Sorry for the fuss, Tiptoety talk 04:45, 13 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]
No worries. Drmies (talk) 04:53, 13 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Look at Drmies trying to weasel out. :) You're in my man. No way out now. You had your chance. You have to be part of the steel cage match all the way until the end. FA status or bust! In fact, I'm thinking of making my participation in mediation contingent on your reading Atlas Shrugged and The Fountainhead, but I might be willing to let you off easy by allowing you to substitute We the Living for one of her longer works. You may not be ready yet for a full course of deprogramming ;) ChildofMidnight (talk) 06:54, 13 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Just found a very nice article about him in Tucson Weekly, which I added to the article. He's startting to tip on the plus side on notability. Schmidt, MICHAEL Q. 18:52, 13 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Ha, I don't know if I should be happy or sad, but you've done it again, probably. Thanks for keeping me posted. Drmies (talk) 18:59, 13 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Also added additional sources section with article link to Arizona Star, a review from Armchair Interviews, and was able to do a slight expansion on his current status. Best, Schmidt, MICHAEL Q. 20:50, 13 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Update[edit]

South Jersey's ghostbusters are appealing the deletion. Several people called the discussion "nasty", I think because you questioned my mental health. :) Oops. I guess jokes aren't funny when people aren't in on them?

I'm sorry you chose to read through the entire Ayn Rand discussion. There is very little of interest there. It's a bit like listening to the Linda Tripp tapes, watching the OJ trial or reading academic papers. :) For the record, upon reviewing some of the Ayn Rand discussion (only a madman would read all of it) I find many of my comments to be argumentative and over the top. But when some arrogant douchebag rolls into town talking about how pitiful Ayn Rand is and how he's going to cut the article down to size, it doesn't exaclty bring out the best in collaborative spirit.

What do you make of this List of Universities with Soil Science Curriculum AfD?

I also wanted to let you know I had some good Indian food last night. I got to choose two main dishes, so I picked a spinach and paneer dish (saag paneer?) and a nice yellow dish of some sort, accompanied by yoghurt. I added that nice green sauce? It came with chapati and papadum. Also some other fried bready entity that I don't know the name of. All for $4.99, so it may have been in your price range?

While I was there I got some frozen samosas, naans, and a box of Ashoka brand patra, which I don't think I've ever had. The Japanese store I go to is nearby so I also picked up a couple dozen cans of pure cocunut juice with pulp. So now I'm all set. Nothing can bring me down. :) I'm planning to hit my Asian food store for my birthday in a couple of weeks, so hopefully I'll remember to bring a camera and take some good shots. Vaya con dios. Oh and the cherimoyas are only $1.50 a pound at the farmer's market, so they must be in season. Very tasty. Drop me a line with your address and I'll see if I can't send you out a taste test of some sort. ChildofMidnight (talk) 21:33, 13 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Ha, I hadn't even noticed--been busy with work, with the Kronos Quartet discography, with Rosie, and with another weird AfD (All Comers Track Meets--since I joked that I hate running (no offense to you!) I'm apparently not qualified to speak on the matter). To think that I voted a 'weak keep' on the article. But the stuff that's coming out on that AfD, that's just silly and nasty. And it's not so much your sanity that's being questioned, but your involvement with SA, haha. Like you were canvassing! SA didn't even say anything on that AfD, right? Crazy stuff. And the appeal is even crazier, IMO.
You know, what I wanted out of that discussion was some clarification on what counts as relevant, specifically in regards to local coverage. Next thing you know, the group is taking offense and screams that it gets national coverage (without proof, of course). It could have been helpful for a relative newbie like me...instead it was just a slugging match.
I think you're right about that Ayn Rand comment. It's easy to get carried away, of course, and there was plenty of provocation from the antirands. That also is not a nice conversation anymore. And it's a bit hypothetical, all of it. Let's face it, she is not a philosopher like Kant was. But she's not not a philosopher... The anti-Rand camp might consider, for instance, that a bad philosopher (if that's what they think she might be) is still a philosopher. Personally, I think that if she's anything, she's probably in the political philosophy camp--a bit of a different animal altogether. But I'm not going to go and pick fights over *that*.
Cherimoyas? I had to follow the link--never heard of em. Interesting! Nice to have a market. Go ahead and rub it in, your $5 dinner...I love Indian food; we have an Indian restaurant here, but it's not that good, and with a newborn it's not much fun to go out and eat. Yesterday we ate gumbo (yes, made it myself) and my wife put some hot sauce on hers--and today Rosie was spitting up milk all day. Listen, I'll make you a deal. I'll look for something that's regional and can ship, OK? since you have a b-day coming up. And I'll read a Rand book, or will try to anyway. Drop me a line with your address, but don't be waiting by the mail slot the whole day. Now on to AfD, and then dinner--potato soup with bacon! Drmies (talk) 22:24, 13 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Hmmm...lunch! Softshell turtle!
I have to go back and reread that AfD and the appeal. I didn't remember it being nasty or my being accused of canvassing. Was I? Someone attacked me? What part was nasty? I'm confused because I thought I reread it, but I didn't see what the big deal was. As to the other concerns, I think we're generally on the same page. I was actually thinking calling her a political philosopher might be a way out, but I don't think there is a way out at this point. Kjaer responded to me on my talk page and I discussed some of the broader philosophical questions with Bfinn if you want to go back and forth and try to follow. She was most certainly a philosopher, and in my opinion not a very good one. But this argument that only certain credentials make a philosopher is weird. They want giant sections ripping apart her philosophy, but they don't wan to call her a philosopher? Robert Pirsig's book was interesting I thought. What a strange life and trauma he seems to have endured. Rand's importance has less to do with her significance as a philosopher and more to do with the political, ethical, and social impact of her ideas. Just to give you one example, the U.S. is always criticized for not having our government spend more on aid. But if you look at the history of aid to various places and compare it with the impact of trade and investment, I don't think aid comes out looking very good. There is a strong argument to be made that aid is not only counter-productive, but actually destructive and corrupting. What happens to the textile industry in an African nation when donated clothes are dumped there? What about local agricultural producers when C-4s full of grain touch down? Anyway, you've done enough dealing with Rand, and I think it's enough of the politics and such for a while. I don't want you rhead to explode. You can certainly check out Atlas Shrugged if you want. It's pretty entertaining as I recall, but it's been a while. The latest twist is the bragging of Peter Damian about the articles he's written. I went and looked at them and all I can say is WOW (and not the good kind). But maybe someone else has a different take. Cheers brother. Give Rosie a kiss for me. And ease up on the hot sauce at least until she's a few weeks old. It's almost turtle season down there isn't it? Them is goooooooOD eating. ;) ChildofMidnight (talk) 22:51, 13 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Right--I'll send you a turtle tomorrow. Should be there in time for Christmas lunch! Drmies (talk) 00:05, 14 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Green vegetables and hot air/sauce[edit]

Never heard okra mentioned specifically, but lots of vegetables (not to mention hot peppers!) are known to cause digestive problems in infants. Good luck and enjoy! Bongomatic 23:23, 13 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

OK Bongo, I just read the list to my wife (and to Rosie, but she had her attention elsewhere--on her mouth), and she asked, "What CAN I eat?" I had no answer. But thanks nonetheless! Yeah, we're laying off the hot sauce (well, she is, haha) for the while. Don't tell her, but I got a bottle in mhy office... Drmies (talk) 23:59, 13 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Nice to be in Holland I guess. I just have a bottle of this on my desk (though to be honest I bet it's even easier for me to get Indonesian sambals than for you!). My wife will be cutting out kailan and dau miu (snow pea leaf) in less than two weeks! Bongomatic 00:11, 14 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Ooooh sambal oelek...delicious! But I carry Texas Pete wherever I go, since I actually left the motherland ages ago--I'm living below the Mason-Dixon line...no sambal here... If you ever want to think about mail ordering, this is the stuff to get--I don't know of any alternative for it. It's delicious, and I use it to make satay sauce. Those greens look awfully tasty... Drmies (talk) 00:18, 14 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Very true. Kecap manis is important. You need a dollop of it in the chili sauce for Hainanese chicken rice. Bongomatic 01:41, 14 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Also, since you mentioned some Americano hot sauce, may I recommend Pico Pica and Bufalo (I'm not 100% sure that's the one I thought was great -- it might be this one. El Yucateco is also one of the better habanro salsas, if I recall. Unfortunately, I've been out of the loop for a while, but these were some of my favorites. Bongomatic
Please let's not neglect Frank's Red Hot. There's no reason to be snooty. The green tabasco is good too. ChildofMidnight (talk) 01:50, 14 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]
How can you accuse anyone of snootiness? Bufalo is $1.95/bottle, Texas Pete can be found for $1.15! Bongomatic 01:59, 14 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]
You and your imports. This is 'merica. Home of Freedom fries, apple pie and tailgating with chicken wings and Frank's Red Hot sauce. ;) But I guess you can use that stuff for Tex-mex. ChildofMidnight (talk) 02:26, 14 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Pretty sure that Pico Pica is from LA. But imports as "snooty"? Check the labels of your undershirts, prole-man! Bongomatic 02:34, 14 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Cool it boys, the sauce is getting to your heads. Nothing wrong with Franks, though it's a tad high in xanthan gum, methinks; my wife prefers Texas Pete, and I'm (still) a happily married man. Secretly, though, I have a bottle of this in the fridge, all the way in the back--shhhh! BTW, ever since I started deep frying my wings (thanks in part to the good casting folk at Le Creuset), I put on a pound or two but have risen four points on the happiness scale. Wings, Texas Pete, beer, and football--that's what America is all about. (That and American Idol, of course.) Drmies (talk) 02:36, 14 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Si se puede! I'm a big fan of tortas and the cubano they sell from the Mexican trucks. Wow is it a big time dish. I'll have to get a photo of one to share. It's ummm let's see hot dog sliced in half, milanesa meat and one other meat I think, with some nice lard on a toasted roll with lettuce and tomato. Some other stuff too I guess, sauce and such, wozers is it good. By the way Drmies, in reviewing your running man AfD, I would note that people are almost never in a joking mood when their article is up for AfD. If you're commenting you can maybe get away with it, but being friendly as the nom is almost never well received. I learned this lesson the hard way and I have the black and blue marks to prove it. I have some good news by the way, Ashtar Galactic Command survived AfD with flying colors. I refrained from voting due to my conflic of interest... ChildofMidnight (talk) 02:45, 14 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Yeah, a sense of humor...that would be nice. But I'll try to be better Child, I promise. OK, now everybody stop talking about food. Now. Please! Drmies (talk) 02:57, 14 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Happy 2009[edit]

Thanks for your message -- sorry not to respond before now, but I was away through much of Christmas and New Year and somehow it got missed. Anyway, I wish you a most happy & productive 2009! Cheers, Espresso Addict (talk) 03:48, 14 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Given your interest in loud music I thought you might be interested in this The Metal Observer. Pass the earplugs. ChildofMidnight (talk) 07:37, 14 January 2009 (UTC) Also perhaps this one since we Americans consider Denmark and the Netherlands to be one and the same country. At least I do. Knút Háberg Eysturstein Can't get there from here! ChildofMidnight (talk) 07:41, 14 January 2009 (UTC) Speaks for itself: Roach the Danish Supervillian ChildofMidnight (talk) 08:05, 14 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Yeah, I saw the Metal Observer one and let it slide for now. My main metal man, Blackmetalbaz, spoke eloquently on the AfD for the first version, and I'll abide by his judgment ('delete'). I'm watching and just commenting. Thanks for the link though. As for Knut--look up Faroe Islands, will you? I'd love to got there. Those cakes--they look gorgeous! Drmies (talk) 15:55, 14 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Is that near Santa Barbara? Are you going to comment on Roach the Danish Supervillian, or is there a conflict of interest? I always thought that the people from Denmark should be called Dutch as the danish is a breakfast nosh. So I think I have cause to be confused! The people from the Netherlands could be called Hollandaise or Netherlandian or Netherlanders. Why Dutch? ChildofMidnight (talk) 17:03, 14 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Confusion between the Dutch and the Germans, related to the words "Deutsch" and "Diets," I reckon. I wanted to paste the relevant section from the OED, but apparently I can't do quotes correctly... Drmies (talk) 17:31, 14 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]
I'll try to keep the Dutch in the Netherlands and the Danes in Denmark as well as the Danish pastry, straight from now on. But what's the deal with the Flemings and Walloons in Belgium? Do you have Flemings in the Netherlands? I think Fleming is an unfortunate name as its hominym isn't very attractive. Anyway, I hope you Euros can sort it all out. Wait, Euros is what you call your money? Ooops, Europeans. And if you can't be nice to us Yanks you'll have to be known as Europeons.  :) It's not too late to sign on for Ayn Rand mediation. The more the merrier, right? ChildofMidnight (talk) 18:34, 14 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I thought Knut was that wonderful Polar Bear in Germany... He also plays in a band? ChildofMidnight (talk) 18:35, 14 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Opposite day?[edit]

Dr., can you explain to me how anarchism is said to be the same thing as libertarianism in the article? Are the Europeans really this confused? What is going on over there? Maybe I better stick to the cooking articles? The mess you're buddies from across the pond have made of the history and social sciences on Wikipedia is enough to send me off the deep end. :) ChildofMidnight (talk) 06:35, 15 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Listen--it's bedtime, and I just spent time on Peter William Wade--God knows why. Look and you'll see why I need a bucket, or a beer. Sure, Europeans are confused, but they don't fight wars over it anymore. I know what you're talking about, since I looked at that unillustrated mess that is your talk page, but can't muster the energy. Either way, they're wrong, you're right, and don't let it get to you! Go check out some rock 'n roll! Drmies (talk) 06:40, 15 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Funny. Thanks for the laugh. After looking at a certain braggard's "articles" nothing surprises me. I would have commented on the videos you left me, but you know what they say: "when you don't have anything nice to say..."  :) Party on brother. Rest up. Rosie and I are counting on you! ChildofMidnight (talk) 06:56, 15 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Peter William Wade? If you wanted a sharp stick to the eye, I would have been happy to oblige and save you the trouble. ChildofMidnight (talk) 06:59, 15 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]
I could have told you how to move stuff. I love moving stuff! Redirecting is fun too. And merging. Should we merge something? Anarchy and Ayn Rand? ChildofMidnight (talk) 07:33, 15 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Good news, exopolitics lives on to fight another day. No thanks to you. It's still anarchy on the anarchism page. :) Actually a couple editors seem to have a clue. So maybe there's hope? The latest gig is to claim anarchism is some form of socialism. Have you had right-side-up up-side-down cake? Patent pending. What? ChildofMidnight (talk) 03:41, 16 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

  • Thanks. I got blocked for awhile last year for civility (along with the guy I was arguing with), and that particular experience actually turned out to be a good thing. I gotta admit, I love the AfD forum; it's a great way to perfect your skills in dealing with difficult people. Plus, some of the most interesting page seem to come there-- sometimes the topic is intriguing, and sometimes it's just a case of an incredibly bad article. Best wishes. hi[edit]

I meant to reply earlier, sorry. I am not really worried about Comradesandalio in general; even though it looks like a lot of his articles get deleted, he's done some good stuff too. At any rate I don't like the idea of one person following a user around, checking on every edit, to make sure he isn't violating the rules. If he sees one user antagonizing him all the time, it would like a personal vendetta; if it's many different people, it becomes a lot harder for him to ignore. This article sucks and is in need of attention.

Please improve it in any way you see fit.

Thank you for voting keep on this article, but could you delete "What a poorly written article" from your comment? That's biting the new user who has written the article and who is seeing the comments at this AfD. I'm cleaning up and sourcing the article right now, so it's going to look better. As American as Apple pie[edit]

If you had taken me up on my offer to initiate mergers and acquisitions, you would have seen that the appropriate action to take on the apfelstrudel article is a merge to the strudel article where it belongs. If kept separate, the apfel strudel article should probably be moved to apple strudel, as Badagnani has suggested on the article talk page. So much to learn my young padwan, so much to learn. ChildofMidnight (talk) 19:11, 16 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

But I don't agree! Apfelstrudel is apfelstrudel! That is, I think the term can stand, and I think it's specific enough to warrant its own article. (And don't you mean, "thanks for cleaning up that mess"???) If you're so convinced, go ahead and merge! (I just did a couple of em--care to check them for correctness?) BTW, I'm hungry. Apple pie, of course, is Dutch, no matter what anyone says. You know what, I'm going to bake a cake this weekend. When's your birthday? I'll send you a picture of the cake. Drmies (talk) 19:16, 16 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Your anarchist tendencies are showing. And by anarchist, of course, I mean socialist libertarian. We invented apples. ChildofMidnight (talk) 20:20, 16 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Darn! Really? Well, I'll have you know that "strudel" is really a Dutch word. OK? Drmies (talk) 20:28, 16 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

The apple article says the tree is native to central Asia. "As Uzbekhistanian as Apple pie?" Hmmm... Did you see the rhyme I posted? Pretty awesome! What's the difference between a cobbler and a pie? And why haven't you voiced support for my efforts to give the poppy seed the love and respect it deserves? I would look at the merges you did, but I just ate... ChildofMidnight (talk) 23:40, 16 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I'm not sure you are qualified to handle this elite American food dish. The techniques involved in preparing it are highly specialized. Did you watch the youtube video of how to make it? That might help and will inspire awe. Also, if you look on the discussion page you'll find another editor strongly objected to the assertion that any chef would ever make this dish. :) If you think you can handle it though, which seems unlikely, you may also be interested in glorified rice. I started the poppy seed article. Unfortunately I apparently tried to include a blacklisted spam link at one point, so I got an error message and that entire edit was lost. Fucking wikipedia. ChildofMidnight (talk) 03:07, 17 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Your little bit about Obama being a seven-layer salad fan is a bit of a stretch from what the source says I'm afraid... Speaking of Hawaiian spam lovers, it turns out every European country has their own poppy seed roll. How's my girl doing? Her article has been getting some interest lately too. Coincidence? I get marriage proposals all the time. ;) ChildofMidnight (talk) 04:09, 17 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Is there any way to make the template put the author's name in a normal order? I'm a revolutionary who believes we don't need to follow principles based on the dewey decimal system and card catalog era when we live in an internet age. First name first, last name last. I have spoken. My other concern is that those cites are very long and make editing hard. But everyone else is always pushing for them. What are the advantages? What did you say you did again that you like more formal citations? Book worm / nerd? Did you see my great photos I added today! I took them down at the pier. I looked for you... ChildofMidnight (talk) 03:16, 18 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Hey Child, I like the 'long' templates because it allows you to neatly organize lots of information; the formatting also forces you to standardize, so that bibliographies in different articles look comparable. And some entries have a ton of information--look at some of the "cite article" entries in the Le Menagier De Paris article: they're chockfull of info; the same goes for scientific journals. Editing is a bit of a problem, perhaps, but you get used to it, and you could delete all the line breaks, and then your 'edit screen' looks almost normal again. And I'm totally with you on the first/last name thing, if only because I'm a Dutch calvinist--doing it your (and my) way eliminates a comma for each citation, and it looks a lot better.
Look at what I did to McGee in Poppy seed. It's cheating a bit, but then, these citations aren't part of a database, so big deal. Like it? I might use it myself. But there are sticklers here on WP who don't like that. Ha, big deal!
Where's the photos? Drmies (talk) 03:27, 18 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Check out the gummies article. Also, I put one on the Simpsons page, but some yahoo keeps deleting it. I notice it does need a caption. What was this cake you made? Peach something? Sorry, but sometimes I get overwhelmed with my watchilist and trying to prevent anarchism from being redefined as libertarian. Isn't that how Stalin came to power? At least you're with me on the naming convention. Si nosotros podemos! I'll have to have a look at McGee, but those templates are mostly beyond my comprehension. If someone includes the author title and a date, I'm over the moon. :) If there's a page number, i have a new hero. What are you and the kiddos up to this weekend? I enjoyed your story about skating in Dutchland. Sounds very nice. And I hear many of the milkmaids are excellent skaters! Bulbs don't do so well in the south do they? What kind of flowers do you have down there? Fletch was on the other night, so I thought of you. ChildofMidnight (talk) 05:07, 18 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Drmies Auntie?
Aren't you supposed to be making Poffert and Bossche bols? Is Hyranemous (sic) Bosch from the Netherlands? The lady's head gear look familiar from my art history classes.
You know being from New York I know a lot about Dutchland. I grew up near Van Cordtland (sp?) Park, and Harlem, and van Damiens land maybe, but I forget what that is. What was New York called when it was Dutch?
Well, Bossche bollen are from Den Bosch...wrong part of the country. There's a hypothetical Mason-Dixon line running through the country. Poffertjes are delicious, and kids especially love them, but you need a poffertjespan. Maybe I'll bring some from the motherland next time. Oh, your Simpsons photo is great (even if not so encyclopedic...). I corrected a little slip in the gummies article. Van Diemen's land? I don't know now New York worked, really--it wasn't exclusively Dutch, I think. A recent book, The Island at the Center of the World, has a lot to say on the topic, but I never finished reading it. I think that Albany (perhaps?) was a bigger "Dutch" town. There's a lot of apparently never-translated Dutch history still; one of my American lit professors at Alabama suggested I follow that as a career... Oh, Dutch bulbs do pretty well here, but I'm no expert on flowers (even though peeling bulbs was a summer job for me for three or four years--or maybe that's why).
So you know about the Droste effect, I gather? And I assume you know about Dutched chocolate? I grew up in the Zaanstreek, which had a couple of chocolate factories and a whole lot of other industry--it is said[weasel words] that one could find one's way through town blind-folded and never get lost. (I rode my bike with my eyes closed one time, and have the fake front teeth to show for it.) Later! Drmies (talk) 05:30, 18 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Oops, Van Diemen's Land was Tasmania and New York was New Amsterdam. Spuyten Duyvil was nearby too. I still don't think bulbs do well in the south. They need to store energy over the winter. The Droste and the related French term that I already forgot are interesting. The Dutch have some crazy stuff going on. What's with all the placid niceness on the surface and the crazy headgear and wacky paintings? What food do you miss the most? Have a great rest of your weekend. Article Deleted[edit]

Hello Drmies,

Thanks for the attempt to clean up the article, but apparently it was deleted so I didn't get the chance to see the changes made. It was never "up for editing" but "up for deletion", so that's that then. Off course you're all just doing your best to maintain WP, more power to ya!(Knytil (talk) 08:26, 18 January 2009 (UTC))[reply]

sounds great, thanks. (Knytil (talk) 19:11, 18 January 2009 (UTC))[reply]

AFD discussion[edit]

Previously, you participated in an AFD discussion about the Lists of solo piano pieces article. I have renominated this article and its sub-articles for deletion; please join the discussion if you have time. Thank you. Timneu22 (talk) 16:01, 18 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I have rewritten this article and fully cited it. I hope you can read over it and share your thoughts. • Freechild'sup? 15:59, 19 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I'm pretty surprised people are trying to delete that article instead of fixing it. Here's some inspiration: Eddie Murphy Black President comedy routine [11], [12], Gilbert Arenas Black President Shoe [13], Richard Pryor black president[14], Black president Bush [15] and of course there was George Clinton's push to paint the White House Black [16]. ChildofMidnight (talk) 18:18, 19 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Sure, but calling it something specific, as a title of an encyclopedic article, is not easy; the first version's vague title was never clarified in the article. The revision, that's an entirely different matter, and your comments may well find a place in the new and improved article--have you stuck them in yet? BTW, I just added a brief note to poppy seed; I hope you approve! Drmies (talk) 18:28, 19 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]
The poor guy hasn't even been inaugurated and already Drmies is trying to do away with the Black president (United States). Tsk tsk. What did you make of Eddie and Richard's take? I'm still rooting for Condi. NEO-CON baby!!! Cypress Hill could be the first presidential duo, or trio or whatever... ChildofMidnight (talk) 21:15, 19 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Did you forget about Dre?[edit]

I'm not such a big N.W.A. fan, but it worked as an acronym... Easy E is aight, but Ice Cube is a punk and an atrocious actor. Dre [17] is pretty cool though, but he's no Flava Flav. I presume you have respect for your fellow Dr.? I'm deeply offended that you didn't recognize the huge encyclopedic value of my random Simpsons photo. But time heals all wounds. There is some good information on poppy seeds in the opium poppy article, I think some in the poppy article, and also in the new article. Bongo was pushing for a merge I do believe. What is the plan? ChildofMidnight (talk) 20:02, 19 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

And I'm still loco enough to choke you to death with a charleston chew...
Your changes to the poppy seed article look fine. Are you sure they didn't continue to use the oil into the early twentieth century for paints and such? I'm thinking of doing the trim in poppy seed blue... ChildofMidnight (talk) 20:09, 19 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Hey, I like Ice Cube--got two letters for you, "US." I have no feelings about Dr. Dre, either way. Bongo may well have a point, but I don't have a plan for poppy seed--I'm jes' trying to help you beef up the article...and I don't know that they continued to use it for paint, but there seems to be no source to back such a claim up. If you want that paint, you'll have to make it yourself! Later! (Oh, I never made that cake this weekend, though I did cook up some delicious nun's puffs, very eggy popovers.) Drmies (talk) 20:18, 19 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Nun's puffs? Interesting. You're quite the baker! I'm more of a toaster oven fan. ChildofMidnight (talk) 00:14, 20 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Meet Katrina Darrell, the American Idol bikini girl...[edit]

Hell... I never met her but apparently she lives about 12 miles from my home. Gotta do what I can for the homegirl. There's lots out there on her to satisfy WP:GNG... and digging to fight the soon-to-be One Event argument. Schmidt, MICHAEL Q. 20:19, 19 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Haha, in a way I hope you fail, just cause I don't like her! But as always, good luck and power to you. Maybe you should go hook up with her (isn't that what the kids call it these days?), and put the pictures on WP:Commons. Drmies (talk) 20:22, 19 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]
She seems quite "notable" to me. ;) ChildofMidnight (talk) 21:10, 19 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]
And about removing American Idol from the filmology... including tv and film in one section is acceptable per MOS for personalities who have done both, as in Kelsey Grammer#Filmography. It ain't a rule, because it is sometimes prudent for those with longer careers in both media to have them seperate, as in Carol Burnett#Work... but it is ascceptable. And heck... her article may be deleted yet.  ;) Schmidt, MICHAEL Q. 06:24, 20 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]
And not wishing to make you cringe, When you removed http://www.mykatrinadarrell.com diff as a source because it was "personal website" (which actually is allowed sometimes if the informations being sourced to it are simply non contentious facts and not used to source notability), you might have missed to teeny print at the bottom of the site's page which reads "This Website is not officially authorized by Katrina Darell or American Idol. This Website is in no way affiliated to either individual or entity", which kinda makes it seem like its not her personal site. So far, that EL is the only one which verifies her mixed heritage, her cert in radio prouction, and her family bonds... and none of those has anything to do with he questioned notability, but only act to round out the article. What thinkest thou? Schmidt, MICHAEL Q. 06:41, 20 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Use of cite templates[edit]

Hi Doctor

Wondering why you decided to abandon the normal usage for the cite templates in Poppy seed. While you might prefer the way they look this way, to the extent that the citations ever are culled for database or global reference lists, putting the names in the wrong fields will thwart such an effort.

Just curious, Bongomatic 01:57, 20 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Hey Bongo, looks is precisely it--it's CoM's little article and that's how he wants it. I like it much better myself too, though I usually don't do it like that. This is the first time that I hear about database connections; I might be swayed by that kind of an argument, if you tell me more! Drmies (talk) 03:43, 20 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Nothing more to tell . . . It just seems to me that if over time people move to cite templates, there would be the ability to create bibliographies, etc., which would be useful. Right now data in WP is highly unstructured, but there are little hooks that might allow that to change over time. Just a pipe dream of mine. Bongomatic 03:52, 20 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Hey, I'm with you, really. (And I'm not just speaking as a guy with a 1000+ entry database that I'm trying to get published.) I don't understand, for instance, why we have two templates for everything--e.g., a 'cite web' template and a 'citation' template. Or why we have so many options in the first place--why not mandate MLA, APA, and some medical style, to keep it simple. (Also, I don't understand "authorlink.") But right now, I'm trying to be a good boy by using them as often as possible, and adapting when I see fit--for poppy seed just for looks, but sometimes by using text that precedes the template, because for some inexplicable reason we can't cite "book from an edited collection--see note 11 in Le Menagier De Paris, for instance. You know, if WP would ever be culled, the mess would be unforeseeable...just look at how vandals like CoM give references..."PDF, article is halfway down the document"--DUDE, the pages were numbered! Take care, Drmies (talk) 03:59, 20 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Don't give in to their backwards 19th century thinking Drmies! I'm going to get you a WWARD bracelet.
Also, I'd like to take this opportunity to let you both know the good news! Once Bongo is done merging the poppy seed information from the opium poppy article, we can begin our new project: seed head or seed pod (take your pick). I know it's not the hard science that Drmies usually work on, but I thought we'd ease ourselves in. ChildofMidnight (talk) 02:23, 20 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]
I was wondering where the 'no narcotic properties' was going to go, with its 50,000 references from medical and scientific journals. I was not looking forward to having to write that. Drmies (talk) 03:43, 20 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]
I saw that nonsense you put about Dutch poppy seeds being the best. You and the author of that book must have been high (which as is quite common in your part of the woods as I understand it), when you came up with that craziness. Poppy seeds from Holland taste like dog poop. :) There. I feel much better now. You oughta taste the ones from Brooklyn! Haagen Dazs is good too, that's right, from NYC!!! Hard core will never die! ChildofMidnight (talk) 05:07, 20 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]
What, you channeling Biohazard now? I left a note in all-caps for you at the AfD for your honey. And for pooing on the Joy of Cooking, I'm going to write WP:CoMisaJERK. Drmies (talk) 05:12, 20 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Themis Music[edit]

Hey there, and happy new year and all that. Slightly strange article that I was wondering whether you'd have a look at for me... Themis music. It's been deleted before owing to being inherently non-notable; the page is a pure vanity piece. I tagged it for notability, which led to continual reverting by an anon; not wanting to edit war, I took it to the talk page, and as you can see (after vandalism of my userpage) got a somewhat, um, colourful response :) Any chance you could have a look for me and offer a second opinion? If I'm missing some aspect of WP:MUSIC that they pass, fair enough. I just thought I'd ask someone else to have a bit of a gander, lest I incur the wrath of the Canadian Wiccans :) Blackmetalbaz (talk) 14:16, 20 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Baz, I had a look at the article, and looked at all the sources. The most notable of them all is that Toronto Music Scene thing--and that's still a blog. So I restored the notability tag, and let the wrath fall where it may. I don't think you missed anything; I certainly can't find anything (in Google and in Google News). Drmies (talk) 05:20, 21 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Feel free to take it to AfD. Blackmetalbaz (talk) 13:53, 28 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]
The Wicca music article is also basically vanityspamcruft, taken to AfD over Xmas when few people were looking at it. I disadvise merge. Themis music should almost certainly be deleted, and the Wicca music article probably should be as well, although there may be material out there to create an article, provided that it's not just based around two bands (Themis and Chalice and Blade do not a genre make). Blackmetalbaz (talk) 17:18, 28 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Fun and games. The Themis Music page has been recreated. Tagged for speedy. Blackmetalbaz (talk) 14:48, 18 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]
And again, this time (same material, of course) under the guise of Themis (music). I'm not actually sure what procedure is in this case... I believe the previous iterations were salted, but could be wrong. Is it possible (or indeed appropriate) to pursue a block on specific accounts? I'm unsure, having never been in this situation before. The article has been recreated six or seven times under slightly different names over the last week. Thoughts? Blackmetalbaz (talk) 00:52, 26 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Dr. Deletion[edit]

You seem to have become quite a deletionist of late. Frankly, I'm worried you're not getting enough sleep. Also, make sure to excercise. Running, for example, is a wonderful cardiovascular work-out and I hear they have notable All Comers Track meets. Are you serious that you don't think Vatican conspiracy theories is a notable topic? ChildofMidnight (talk) 19:23, 20 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Oh, I am SO not getting enough sleep--Rosie was up, crying, at 1 this morning...and I do hate running! (Split shins (?) and all.) Yes, I am quite serious about that Vatican thing. Not that I don't believe in Vatican conspiracies or theories thereof--but this article is just the pits and should be scrapped, and then we'll realize that the notable ones are well-covered in other articles (like the example I gave in the AfD discussion.). OK, back to work! Real work this time... :( Drmies (talk) 19:34, 20 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]
BTW, deletionist? the guy who "saved" Floortje Smit? and Andocs? and Micki Free? Ha! See also Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Timeline of modern Muslim scientists and engineers--you might also be interested in that AfD. Drmies (talk) 19:35, 20 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I noticed that two or three keeps and deletes were robotic, too, but these were done half a day before I sent Wikipedia:Canvassing#Friendly_notices to users who have demonstrably a record of participating in the discussion on 'Islamic' inventions, so keep me out of this, will you. Thanks.

On a second look, User:YellowMonkey was on my talk page (one example), because we both were participating in a discussion on the topic at the timee. Next time first read the relevant talkpages, before you vocally blame me behind my back. Poor class. Gun Powder Ma (talk) 16:26, 21 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Gun Powder, I'm sorry you're having this problem with Drmies. I've been trying to straighten him out for some time now. He's an enormous troublemaker for sure. ChildofMidnight (talk) 17:07, 21 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks, Quisling! Drmies (talk) 17:09, 21 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Youch. Nap time for you my friend. That palace article was new so that's why I threw it your way. What's shaking? ChildofMidnight (talk) 18:18, 21 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Kerststol‎[edit]

Hi, will you take a look at this new article? Kerststol‎; just to be sure that I am not making any mistakes. Complete it with anything you think is missing.

thanks

No wonder there aren't more Dutch restaurants... ahahahhahaha!!! No just kidding. But seriousy, why aren't there more Dutch restaurants? And if there were, what would they serve? Also, is Little Debbie Dutch? Because that girl can cook! ChildofMidnight (talk) 19:46, 21 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks, big smile, hope the cake is as Dutch as possible. :) Warrington (talk) 19:53, 21 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Speaking of Dutchlandia, user:Cameron noted on Warrington's page that he recently created Residences of the Danish monarch and Schackenborg Castle, in case you want to have a look. Personally, I think there are more important subjects on Wikipedia (poppy seed, Vatican conspiracies, and bikini clad reality television contestants for example), but to each their own. ChildofMidnight (talk) 20:21, 21 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

No, no more edit wars, thank you very much, it was enough with the Big Strudel War. That was exactly the point to check about the right and typical Dutch ingredients, if hazelnut is wrong, than kill it.

About the almond paste I already got one, made me almond pastenostalgic too... Warrington (talk) 21:44, 21 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

My sources can be wrong!! They are in English, my Dutch is not sooo good so I can check them competely in Dutch. It can be some kind of non Dutch, degenerated , who knows what Kerststol‎, like olive oil Apple strudel. And ChildofMidnight. I am drowning you in poppy seed recipes and you didn’t eeven said thanks. Change my mind, I not marrying you any more.

Correcting the record[edit]

thumb|100px|left|Frank's Red Hot Original Cayenne Pepper Sauce 12oz, and no Xantham gum filler like that crap sold by competitors thumb|150px|A 12 oz. bottle of Texas Pete hot sauce. Red hot doesn't have any xantham gum. I checked. Please refactor your abusive comments about this wonderful condiment. 22:08, 21 January 2009 (UTC)

This abusive comment was probably left by a troublemaker. I will investigate. Signed, a Texas Pete fan.
Darn it, Texas Pete does contain xanthan gum. Signed, a former Texas Pete fan.
What's wrong with xanthan gum? Bongomatic 00:10, 22 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Apparently nothing. Drmies seems to have a real taste for it, witness his choice of hot sauce. As for me I prefer ingredients that weren't developed in a lab. But to each their own. :) ChildofMidnight (talk) 00:16, 22 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Note the word "former" (see above, blind man). For dinner, we had rice and beans and chicken, and I have to admit we had Texas Pete--in part because I can't throw away a nearly full bottle (of one quart). To each their own, sure--but no rice and beans for Elisabeth, and how the hot sauce went down with Rosie, we'll see tomorrow. Drmies (talk) 00:50, 22 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

At least in the future you won't have to worry, Frank's original is quite mild. Is this an article you're interested in World Day of the Sick? It's new anyway... If not you can always tackle the China Sex Culture Museum, also new. I'm ready to put this one Technochrist up for deletion, okay? Or should I let Bongo do it? Also, I notcied that the xantham gum article says "Some people are allergic to xanthan gum, with symptoms of intestinal gripes, diarrhea, temporary high blood pressure, and migraine headaches. (Citation needed)," which might explain why you haven't been feeling more chipper. ChildofMidnight (talk) 01:56, 22 January 2009 (UTC) And just in case I've been a little hard on you, here a treat: Iron Maiden: Flight 666. ChildofMidnight (talk) 02:19, 22 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

First the poppy seed and now this [18]? So Iron Maiden isn't the real thing any more? Maybe they can add David Lee Roth? Or Flava Flav? ChildofMidnight (talk) 18:53, 22 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

A Cincinnati chili 4-way with onions and oyster crackers.
Now you're trying to do away with sausage bread? What's next? How far will your destructive campaign go? What about spaghetti red, cincinnati chili, pizza burgers and seven-layer salad? Is glorified rice safe? ChildofMidnight (talk) 17:02, 23 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]
You know I only want to delete things I don't like, haha. Hey man, I'm just a committee member. Once I wrote an incredibly filthy limerick about Cincy chili (Skyline, of course), so I'm sort of attached to it. And that's a landmark dish, right? But did you read the sausage bread article? It's not even clear what it is! Alrigh, back to Dante, or work. Later! Drmies (talk) 18:07, 23 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]
I think we both know what sausage bread is: another fine production of American ingenuity. Speaking of which, I'm dedicating my newest article on Wiel Arets to you. The truth will get out[edit]

The pope grants private audiences as well as public ones. Here the Canons Regular of the Holy Cross from Uden (Netherlands) are received by Pope Pius XII. We can only wonder what conspiracies may have been developed behind closed doors...

Closed as keep my friend. Your efforts to silence the crusade campaign to reveal the truth has failed. Your involvement in the New World Order, mafia ties, communications with aliens, and promotion of the pagan religion of Babylon will soon be exposed for all to see!!! ChildofMidnight (talk) 16:41, 23 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Hey, the aliens texted me, but I never responded! Don't think you can pin that on me! (PS--See the guy all the way on the left, with the glasses? That's my uncle!) (PPS--why not admire my fine rewriting and template-based sourcing of the first conspiracy at Vatican conspiracy theories. Signed, your Knight Template.) Drmies (talk) 18:41, 23 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Oh, I dispute the statement that Heerlen and Uden are in the Netherlands. Drmies (talk) 18:47, 23 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Your belligerent attitude has forced me to create Kees Christiaanse, whose Dutchiness is indisputable. I am a great admirer of your work Mies, Dr., it's your politics that concerns me. ChildofMidnight (talk) 19:06, 23 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Have at it. We can put it up at DYK after a bit and if you can dig up a photo that would be fantastic. ChildofMidnight (talk) 19:33, 23 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Oh and make sure we're not duplicating another article. But I looked and couldn't find one and if one turns up I suppose we can always merge. ChildofMidnight (talk) 19:34, 23 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Cool. Glad you like him. All it took was finding a Dutch socialist urban planner. :) I hear he supports basic income too! It's about time we took a break from the AfD sewer don't you think?

And I have more tricks up my sleeve by the way. Have a google news search for West 8 and Adrian Geuze who has "almost single handedly reestablished landscape on the agenda of Dutch urbanism and is now taking his influence global with projects in the US and across Europe". And he doesn't build austere apartment blocks for the middle classes yo. Dutch contemporary here we come! ;) ChildofMidnight (talk) 20:00, 23 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Actually my opinion of the Keester is improving as I see more of his work, although he does have some brutalist tendencies. Apparently he never read any Ayn Rand. :( See [20] and [21], and (I think this is his) [22] and [23] and there are some interior shots too I think. Or you can browse for yourself through the general flikr category of his work: [24]. Badagnani might be willing to get some photos and would certainly explain to you how he does it. I don't like communicating with other humanoids I don't know and mostly I can't be bothered setting up a new e-mail account that isn't revealing of my secret identity (Muahaahahahahah).ChildofMidnight (talk) 20:12, 23 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Here's the man himself [25], [26] showing a bit of glitz, and here's one that's kind of fun [27]. A detail shot or interior would be good too. But check out this stream of my main man Geuze's work: [28]. Now that's what I'm talking about. :) ChildofMidnight (talk) 20:52, 23 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]
One other thought, have you checked the Dutch and German wikipedias? No sense reinventing the wheel... ChildofMidnight (talk) 20:19, 23 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Mies, Dr., could you please go ahead and create the West 8 article with a short bit and an under-construction template? Did you get a chance to look at their work? I'd like to get to work on the article, but I don't want to be accused of collaborationism with Dutch imperial powers. Seriously, I want you to get credit as the creator. I think it's cool that there are some wonderful Dutch architects. As you know, now that you're a red-blooded American, we are a nationalistic flag waving people and we expect others to take the same pride in their fellow peeps. By the way, the Dutch Wikipedia site doesn't seem to have Kees on it, so I think you should translate it over there. And could you double check if there's anything there on West 8 or Adrian Geuze. And finally, I put some links to stuff at the top of my use page. Like on guy on Flikr has a whole set of Dutch architectural photos and they are partially free licensed, so he might be willing to hook us up. I think architecture articles without photos are pretty daft. Party on. If you're busy no worres. Have a great weekend. ChildofMidnight (talk) 02:02, 24 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Troll (John Bauer.

I suspect that this Gigantes (Greek Dish) and this Gigandes plaki are exactely the same thing. What do you think?

Warrington (talk) 22:01, 24 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Encouraged by your friendly advices i merged the two. sounds like a nice dish. The name came from the monsters of human appearance but prodigious size and strength. Such beings, derived from one of the most famed examples: the gigantes of Greek mythology. Gigantic peoples are featured as primeval creatures associated with chaos and they are frequently in conflict with the gods. However, in some more recent portrayals, like those of Roald Dahl, some giants are both intelligent and friendly.

Warrington (talk) 17:23, 26 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Dr Mies, well done.

DYK for Poppy seed[edit]

Updated DYK query On January 25, 2009, Did you know? was updated with a fact from the article Poppy seed, which you created or substantially expanded. If you know of another interesting fact from a recently created article, then please suggest it on the Did you know? talk page.

Dravecky (talk) 00:01, 25 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I guess they give credit these days to just about anybody who tags along on an article. What is "vanille vla"? The strand was a bit chilly, but it was nice to get outside. I've been a bit sick since the inauguration... :) which I'm sure is just a coincidence, and actually it started with my housemate leaving a bunch of windows open overnight and my waking up shivering. I certainly don't want to point any fingers at El Presidente. After all he has a big economic stimulus package for health care. Have a great weekend. A subject of interest?[edit]

<*My friend Rob knows exactly how this feels.>

I have great news! I discovered that this is called sapodilla Spondias (hog plum). So we won't have to have a big discussion about you know what. It sounds like you're cooking up a storm! I checked out those Dutch buns you linked, they look good. Just think about the excitement when you introduce them to cornbread and pecan pie. Mies, Dr.'s American BBQ house. I noticed the lack of sourcing in Dutch wikipedia, and I also thought some of the language wasn't strictly encyclopedic. I'm amazed they would try to delete West 8, but I wonder if it isn't the syndrome of attacking a noob. It seems to be a passion at Wikipedia. The only thing I can think of is that they see this new editor put up a well referenced article and assume it's a conflict of interest and that you must be stopped immediately. I think it would be fun to have it go to AfD. Are the sources you used all in English or did you include some Dutch ones? Maybe the person doesn't even realize it is Dutch landscape architecture firm? I missed hanging out with you over the weekend, but I tried to party hearty just the same. I got some giant Andean pop corn... so I'll let you know how that turns out. ChildofMidnight (talk) 16:21, 26 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]
The tributes to El Presidente are starting: 29. Pay tribute! ;) ChildofMidnight (talk) 16:46, 26 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Wow. A bit soon even for my taste, esp. since we got nothing named for Karl Marx in the entire state. Oh, I'm involved in edit-warring, for the first time! Check Mark Gottfried. I would think it exciting, but it's really just silly. (You'll see from the formatting of the sources that that's all my handiwork--except for the fansite). ;) Drmies (talk) 16:54, 26 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]
What exactly does the "my friend rob knows exactly how this feels" comment mean? Do I want to know... Hmmmm... You and Rob are very close I take it? ChildofMidnight (talk) 20:46, 27 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]
I get it, you inserted a sarcastic comment. I'm feeling better already. Still a bit slow though. ChildofMidnight (talk) 20:47, 27 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

News, art and architecture, American salads[edit]

Your friend Kristen or Kirsten is having some issues... Also some Dutchmen were jibber jabbering and it was reported on ANI, if you want to check it out. We yanks don't like peeps speaking in vernacular tongues instead of using our international language (and now I'm not talking about love). :) Also check out Fashion Architecture Taste (FAT). And have you seen my masterwork that is the Snickers salad article? Health food! I hope you don't mind that I started the FAT article without you, but you did so much on the last one, I frankly felt a little bad. Also check out their website, they have some images (mostly of the designs) of their work. Pretty fun stuff. ChildofMidnight (talk) 20:44, 27 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Hey, I saw your snickers salad the other day--dude, that is gross. Listen, I really appreciate you bringing me in on those articles, so start them all you will. I have no Wiki ambitions (couldn't even get a guy banned for 3RR anyway...), so no worries. But I'll have a look. I'm still working on that discography, great fun, and (again, or still) it's almost done. I'm very pleased with it. Where's the ANI thread? I'll have a look before I go to the grocery store. Good to hear from you again! Drmies (talk) 21:33, 27 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

What do you make of this article? ChildofMidnight (talk) 03:14, 28 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks! And I think it's not so good (to put it mildly) and have left my comments. What do you think? I've been working on Dante and his Divine Comedy in popular culture--what a crap list that was, but there's some promise there. First one must chop dead wood (see Inferno, canto 1--the wood of error)! I always enjoy that. You been architecting or fooding? I saw that conch picture, fantastic. Later! Drmies (talk) 04:25, 28 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]
I don't know what to make of that article. But I hate to delete stuff like that if there's a way to make it useful. The FAT article was actually a recreation of a deleted article, so I had to ask an Admin to show me what was there previously in order to see it. That's why a redirect or merge is so much better. The Dante article sounds fun. I saw the religious statue illustrating the page, but I'm too tired to read the article. I couldn't find Kees in the Dutch Wikipedia. Did they delete him? Were you disappointed with the downfall of the Muslim science timeline? It was a recipe for trouble, but a timeline is quite useful, I think, for an encyclopedia. But the objections had some validity too, so here we are. I just spun out the first two entries in the black president list from the old article that was deleted. Once I'm awake again I'm going to see if I can't rustle up some architecture photos... ChildofMidnight (talk) 06:22, 28 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Spray cans of processed Easy Cheese, that the Dutch (and Canadian) people wish they had access to.

Speaking of fat, Kelapstick thinks the encyclopedia should include Chicken Fried Chicken. The recipe notes, "Be sure to make this with cream gravy," so it sounds like another fine American recipe. Since it's a virus that causes us to be fat [30], there's not much we can do but enjoy the good things in life. ChildofMidnight (talk) 18:27, 28 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

It's actually described at Chicken fried steak#Variants. I made a redirect for Chicken fried chicken per WP:NC#Lowercase but will add more, too. Bongomatic 18:36, 28 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]
I'm happy with that. Makes the link blue, provides the information. I don't see a need for a separate article. But what about deep fried chocolate cream pineapple pie? ChildofMidnight (talk) 20:22, 28 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Had to enter a comment about the canned cheese. One of my favorite things about living in the US is canned cheese, when we would travel south of the border we would always bring a horde of canned cheese back to Canada.--kelapstick (talk) 23:02, 29 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Done and done. Will never see an AfD. Now think of a nice DYK hook. Schmidt, MICHAEL Q. 22:14, 29 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

DYK for "Did you know...?" Gets a Main Page blurb about an interesting subject. I suggest

"Did you know... that the Arliss Howard film Big Bad Love was based upon the Larry Brown collection of stories by the same name?"

How about:

"Did you know... that the Arliss Howard film Big Bad Love about an alcoholic, Vietnam veteran, and struggling writer was based upon the Larry Brown collection of stories?" ChildofMidnight (talk) 22:31, 29 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Keep your eyes on http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Template_talk:Did_you_know#Articles_created.2Fexpanded_on_January_29

Hows about:

Did you know...that the New York Times review of the movie Big Bad Love described it as "a self-indulgent celebration of self-indulgence"?
Unfortunately you need to register for the NYT online, which I think is against the DYK rules for verifiability of hooks...Sorry to butt in, but I like making DYK hooks.--kelapstick (talk) 22:59, 29 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Hey MQS, see what we started? Or you, really? And I have to say that Child's hook is purty good. Kelapstick's is nice to, and it makes me want to see the movie, haha. Thanks for chiming in, folks! Drmies (talk) 23:26, 29 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Dutchian[edit]

I thought Spreek je moerstaal meant "hold the mayo". ChildofMidnight (talk) 22:20, 29 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Really, why would anyone in their right mind ever say that? Drmies (talk) 23:27, 29 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]
In case you're wondering I'm eating fried crispy anchovies from Thailand right now. They're pretty good, a little fishy, and both too sweet and too spicy at the same time. There's another kind I have that's out of this world though, with lemongrass. I take it you didn't like the rogues gallery... :) Sorry about that. ChildofMidnight (talk) 01:33, 30 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Oh and speaking of the flu, did you see the article explaining that I'm not fat because I keep eating these cookies, but that it's a virus? What a relief. ChildofMidnight (talk) 01:34, 30 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Your wife's whipping up some hotdish and snickers salad? Don't forget the dessert bars. ChildofMidnight (talk) 01:38, 30 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]
If you're into Cuisine Americana these days, but still like things that aren't too disgusting, check out the NYT ref I just added to Macaroni and cheese. Bongomatic 02:27, 30 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]
  • Haha, that's a great article. True, evaporated milk is "delightfully trashy." But American cheese, no, I'll never go there (our daughter calls it "Sippy cheese"--she calls herself Sippy--cause I buy it just for her). And I do like a white sauce, as long as it's drowned in cheese: cheddar (or colby jack, even better), parmesan, and sometimes Harvati. So I make a bechamel with a ton of cheese, and that tastes better to my non-American palate than the easier stove top version, though I really like that with a bag of frozen vegetables cooked with the pasta, and lots of hot sauce. Yummy! Long live America! Drmies (talk) 04:08, 30 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Woohooo fried anchovies? That sounds really, really interesting. Once, when my wife and I were just dating, I made her some tomato sauce with anchovies (you know, dissolved into the olive oil...) and after she ate it with relish I told her what was in it. Ha! And she still married me, though after much scolding. I did read that article--did it say you were fat? Yeah, a virus...and kids can't learn because of all kinds of disorders... Well. One can always eat less. We had taco soup tonight, can't say I much care for it, but American it is. Oh Bongo, Alton Brown has a really nice recipe for "stove-top" mac and cheese, with evaporated milk and mustard powder--and lots o' hot sauce. I'll check out that link, thanks. And Child, no, I didn't care for that gallery much; there's rich old white guys on both sides and I don't care for most of them very much (but I left you a note in the edit summary ;)). Thanks for the thought anyway! Later kids! BTW, "cocksmoker," I still am trying to wrap my head around it... Drmies (talk) 03:54, 30 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Maybe there's a version of Bacon Explosion that uses horse cock (perhaps you can blue-ify the redlink) instead of sausage. Bongomatic 04:02, 30 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Is it just me or does one of your boobies look a little under the weather? Just sayin'. I saw this photo and thought of you [31]. ChildofMidnight (talk) 04:13, 30 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Yeah, nice little dish there! You're right, the recent booby does look a bit sad--I think s/he is looking with envy at the other booby's nice blue feet. Oh, the pork yesterday was very tasty, though a bit weird for my taste: I know about mole and all, but pork butt in the slow cooker with salsa and cocoa powder, that takes a little getting used to. But I really enjoy pulling the pork. C'mon by, I'll fix y'all a plate, and we still have some beers too. Drmies (talk) 04:20, 30 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

real-world notability[edit]

Hey Mac, I have a question for you, I hope you have (time for) an answer. I'm looking at Atom Eve. Does that article satisfy WP:Fiction? It has one not-primary source, mentioned in note 11, The Official Handbook of the Invincible Universe. Does that count as real-world information in the sense of wp:fiction? thanks, Drmies (talk) 17:59, 30 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

  • I'm afraid I don't know enough about the subject to make a well-educated decision. The reference surely counts as reliable and in the way the current Fiction guideline looks, it's probably independent too. But that's about all I can establish. Whether the character is notable depends on whether she's a main character or an incidental one. Either way, the plot summary probably needs some reduction. I nominated Kees Christiaanse so if you have a change to expand it slightly that would be awesome. I'm going to try to rustle up some photos. I also nominated West 8. And now I'm going to go do FAT and Dessert bars which are somewhat related, unless you believe in science in which case it's just a virus. ChildofMidnight (talk) 01:41, 31 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

There are a lot of articles about Kees, but they are mostly in D(e)utschian. What do you have against Wiel? ChildofMidnight (talk) 03:53, 31 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Against Wiel? Nothing! Well, he's from the wrong part of the country, that's all. Did you put that article up in the mainspace? You know that was a very, very rough translation. Yes, there are a lot of articles about KC (and the Sunshine band, which I think was playing in Dubai, where they can make it snow indoors), and I added a couple of things to the article. Have a look; I thought that tree thing (oh, I remember, I need to add something) might make for a hook. OK, back to it. Drmies (talk) 04:14, 31 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]
You think I let the Netherlanders write my copy? Heck no! Hey I couldn't find Kees on there a while back. Did they delete him. I need to expand Wiel and I'll see if the Dutchpersons (pc) have anything to add. Of course none of it is cited... Did you translate West 8 over there? You're their top contributor!!! ChildofMidnight (talk) 05:23, 31 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]
I can't say enough about 'our' WP here...their AfD discussions aren't discussions. Some admin slaps some article with a tag, sends it off to AfD rightaway, where it seems like it just ripens for two weeks before deletion. The nominator responded to me once, only once, to say that he wasn't "threatening" deletion--well, he nominated the article for it! I've made changes twice since then, and told him/her about it, but no response. Pfff.
No, no KC is there. Doesn't look like it's been deleted. There's a page for Geuze, to be sure. The Wiel Arets article, I translated word for word, leaving out only one address. There's no sources there. Eh...did you not include any of the material I translated for you, above? You should really include the Kubus and Rietveld awards, that's instant notability, haha. When I have some time I'll have a look around in the Dutch papers, if you like. Oh, I also love the glass brick. Drmies (talk) 05:33, 31 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]
What's the glass brick? I didn't need sources for Wiel. Not yet anyway. I jsut stopped work since you abandoned him. Poor guy. Oh crap, I found a source with Kees's middle name, but I forgot to note it. I thought that was cool. :) ChildofMidnight (talk) 05:45, 31 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Sorry about this, but I added additional songs to an AFD you commented on. In the interest of being fair, you may want to review the AFD again. Sorry about that. --Omarcheeseboro (talk) 21:36, 31 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Dinner[edit]

Dr Mies, you are wery Dutch. We would need RELIABLE sources about what on earth the Dutch eat at their Cristmas dinner, there is an edit war in the Dutch cuisine... Never thougt this will be a problem... Please help out a little... Warrington (talk) 11:20, 1 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Yes please provide such references. At the moment I am being resisted for trying to remove "duck" and "glazed ham" as the traditional Dutch Christmas dinner. Arnoutf (talk) 11:46, 1 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]
As well you ought (well, maybe remove the word "glazed"). See http://www.articlesbase.com/culture-articles/christmas-dinner-around-the-world-606243.html. Bongomatic 14:14, 1 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Haha, Christmas dinner? 'Tis a new-fangled thing. I'd love to get on it, but it won't be instantly... (And duck and ham are NOT traditional, if anything at all is traditional there...Arnout, je hebt gelijk.) Drmies (talk) 15:05, 1 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]
  • Hi Arnout, the ham is gone. Drmies (talk) 21:20, 1 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

You are Mies the Angel. Do you think we should write: Every Dutch would like to eat game at Christmas, but they never dare...?? :)

CoM defendae bravely the rest of it.

Warrington (talk) 23:22, 1 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Indeed it's not glazed ham that's traditional, but ham hocks, collard greens and black eyed peas. Sweet tea is gaining in popularity all the time. And cornbread, well, that's a Dutch specialty! Did you know that pulling the cover over someone's head after you've farted is called "Dutch oven" here? Classy!ChildofMidnight (talk) 07:03, 2 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]
An oven-roasted brine-soaked turkey.

Yes, I did know that--I had a disgusting neighbor in Asheville a few years ago who taught me all kinds of dirty expressions, including "snail trails." Cornbread, that just ain't never going to take off. Corn is for the animals! Did I tell you yet how great The Joy of Cooking is? They have recipes for some mean, mean spice rubs and pastes--the whole house still reeks of it. Delicious! Drmies (talk) 15:37, 2 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

AHA! So it may be turkey for the Dutch anyway? Warrington (talk) 21:47, 2 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

About journals...[edit]

Hi again Drmies!

I wanted to take up that tangent from Wikipedia:Articles_for_deletion/Journal_of_Trading about a new guideline for specialist publications, e.g. trade publications and academic journals. I think we agree that there should be a presumption to keep any specialist publication or journal that shows up on google books... and I notice that there's already a WikiProject about them where we could go to seek support for the idea.

Any thoughts?--S Marshall Talk/Cont 15:38, 3 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Dravecky (talk) 14:32, 6 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

The article has begun to get some sourcing and seems to be able to be properly encyclopdic for Wiki. However, I am not asking you to change your vote... as you will or won't depending on what you see going on. I just wanted to ask your opinion of it being nommed only 6 minutes after it was created. I am not on new page patrol... maybe I'd be too forgiving of initial efforts and send an author a note detailing what his article needed in order to be accepted... but is 6 minutes the average expected life expectancy? Best, Schmidt, MICHAEL Q. 06:17, 7 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

  • Hi Michael, I did in fact change my vote. Good work has been to the article, to the extent that I can see it's an article. As for that quick nomination, that's not something I often look at. "New page patrol," I imagine, means running some sort of bot--I don't know about those things and don't do them. Sure, it was quick, but then, I've been taught (in school and by ChildofMidnight, among others) to not create a new page without establishing some sort of notability and throwing in a couple of sources. And of course I'm much more of a deletionist than you are...comes with the territory, it's my job, in a way. I myself wouldn't nominate something so quickly; if I nominate anything I look through the history first and then tag it, if needs be--we have plenty of tags available. So I'm in the middle, I guess; sure, I'd give the article a chance, but once it's brought up at AfD, where there is a lot to wade through, I don't always look carefully at the history--I take things as they are, perhaps to a fault sometimes. I don't mind changing my vote though, as you've noticed a couple of times. Thanks for the good work, and for keeping me posted! Drmies (talk) 18:24, 7 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]
  • The vote change was not the reason for my visit, because even though we have bumped heads a few times at AfD, I have a tremendous respect for your process. And I don't know about bots, but WP:NPP is a wealth of information. It just seemed that 6 minutes was a tad premature, even for them (chuckle). Someone must have beem patroling from the top down and not the bottom up. Are you a member of WP:ARS? Quite a satisfying place when it comes to improving wiki. Best, Schmidt, MICHAEL Q. 19:56, 7 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]
No, I know, but the article substantiated a change anyway, thanks to you. I still like the random search. Yes, 6 minutes is a bit premature, I think. Oh, now I see what ARS is--just the thing for you, the Immaculate Rescuer! And BTW, I really admire your work too, and I hope you'll keep doing it. Take care! Follow-up to bacon explosion?[edit]

Tomboy's chili-cheesburger. Yummm!

Man that looks good... needs some mayonnaise though... Oh, the final word on the bacon explosion is that it ain't happening. My wife won't let me, simply put, and I don't think I have the gumption to overrule here on this one. One of her problems, I think, was that she couldn't imagine eating it... Hey, did you see my latest project, Stac an Armin? I want to go to there... Drmies (talk) 03:07, 8 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

There is pickle, onion and mustard in there. You don't put mayo on something that beautiful silly boy! I'm with your wife, the bacon explosion is gross. I have seen those rocky points sticking out of the ocean. That's considered a good building site in the Netherlands, if I'm not mistaken. I hope you're enjoying your weekend. Did you see the link I posted to the European art project I linked a while back? Is there an article on it? Great stuff. :) ChildofMidnight (talk) 03:40, 8 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Questions???[edit]

Needs more Penguin?

I have some questions. First of all, when you say, "reportedly they ate porridge with penguin there" does that mean they were eating the porridge WITH the penguins? Like together? Or that there was penguin in the porridge? I thought porridge was vegetarian? And then when you say, "I bow to your immensity, oh CoM..." is that a fat joke? Because it's been cold here (relatively) but I'm going to try to start exercising again soon...

Did you see the chicken fried bacon info on my talk page?

And finally, I was a little confused on the small pox thing. Did they put the people on the island to keep them from getting small pox or because they had small pox? Do we know? Party on. ChildofMidnight (talk) 08:07, 9 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Hey Child! First of all, thanks for your help with the article. Esp. the lead is better. No, I did not see any chicken fried bacon anywhere, and I'm not sure I want to look for it. And yes that was a joke, and no it wasn't: yes it was cause you claimed run-ons, and no cause you did such a nice job. But it was not a FAT joke, no. Ha, cold? We grilled, outside, yesterday! It was in the 70s. (We had sausage and some chicken; tonight I'm grilling steak and slow-cooking/smoking a fat chunk of pork.)
Yes, they ate porridge with all kinds of birds in it. It's all they had, basically. The article mentioned "corn," and I assume that's corn as we know it, though in older English corn is sometimes a more generic word. Food? Check out [33], p. 146/47. I don't remember right now where I read the penguin/porridge note (and it might have been another bird...), but I'll see. Maybe there's an article there? Again, thanks for your help, and when I'm pulling pork tonight I'll spare you a nice crunchy bit. Drmies (talk) 15:29, 9 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Nice job on the CFB. Another important subject that needed to be covered. I like the greasy (fatty?) pulled pork strands, so you can keep the crispy bits! What about the people on the stack who got stuck during the pox outbreak. Do we know why they were there? Were they sick? ChildofMidnight (talk) 17:51, 9 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Hey CoM, the pox--it's simple, really, and I thought I'd covered it: because of the outbreak the folks back at the ranch couldn't equip a boat to get the ones stranded on the Stac. So, the outbreak was before they left, and prevented their return. Oh, I looked at the edits I so carelessly erased and worked the one back in; the other (the Squire sentence) was already redone. So sorry, and thanks! Drmies (talk) 18:28, 9 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I LOVE teamwork, esp. if the other guy (i.e., you) does the heavy lifting! and was the hook not Child's? Drmies (talk) 18:29, 9 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Sounds great. And I'm envious of the weather you've been having and your big suburban backyard. Now that I've been spoiled by the weather out here in So. Cal., this rainy season we've had is brutal. I'm holed up here wearing a winter hat for heaven's sake. And what's up with paper bags being bad for the environment 10 years ago, but now the plastic ones are bad and everyone is switching to paper and outlawing the plastic kind? And it was getting cooler in the 70s and we were headed for another ice age, and then it was global warming, and now it's snowing in Britain and glaciers are reforming? What's the story? Is bacon good for me or not? ChildofMidnight (talk) 04:11, 10 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I forgot to tell you that it'll be 76 here tomorrow. Man that BBQ is smelling good--love apple cider. OK, here's the thing--plastic is made out of oil, that's bad. Paper is made out of trees, that's bad too (AL is like 70% trees, all monoculture, all that land owned by lumber companies who don't pay property taxes. And paper mills f***ing stink; we have one ten miles away that I can smell if the wind is bad.) Don't play that "oooh it's all bad, so let's not change anything" game: just stop using these bags, both kinds! And global warming is real, and it's man-made, that's science. Right! Hey, bacon is probably terrible for you (and twice so for me) but it taste good, and happiness is important too...are you asking this because you had a look at your "honor page"? Drmies (talk) 04:16, 10 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]
BTW, a winter hat in SoCal--that's pretty funny! Since rare, no doubt. Hey, make yourself a bacon flambée! Drmies (talk) 04:20, 10 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]
I haven't checked my "honors" page, but will do so pronto. What makes you think the timber companies don't pay property taxes? Are you confusing them with government whose lands make up half of most states out here on the west coast? And I thought trees grew back? What's the alternative? You're not a cave man are you? I hope you haven't fallen under the spell of propaganda over at the "hydrogen economy" page. Just how much faster do trees grow at higher CO2 levels? And what's so bad about warming things up in Russia and Canada? There's a lot of wasted space up that way that would like nice with ferns and coconut palms. ChildofMidnight (talk) 04:25, 10 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Before those trees start producing coconuts my homeland will be under a couple of feet of water. Hey, you must not know me very well: I believe property is theft! Drmies (talk) 04:28, 10 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]
I thought you were more of an outside the box thinker. I'm confident that Rem Koolhaas, Wiel Arets, West 8 and (possibly) Kees Christiaanse will be able to work wonders with pontoons. Floating cities!!! ChildofMidnight (talk) 18:54, 10 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Hope you don't mind Doc but I changed the barnstar to the actual (newly created) "Bacon Barnstar" on the honors page...--kelapstick (talk) 19:25, 10 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

We used to get mail order Flying Pig ribs with this fabulous yellow barbecue sauce. Very tangy and piquant, spicey I guess. Hard to describe. I stopped by to let you know that your share of the oil revenues went here: Iraqi governorate elections, 2009. I'm sure you agree that allowing the Iraqi people to control their own destiny and to choose their leaders as we do in the U.S. and in Europe is money well spent. The 1 trillion dollar boondoggle pork package coming out of Congress is a completely different story. Enjoy your pork. I'm happy that you and you lovely wife and daughters get to party together. • Wow, my first star...I feel slightly humbled...does this mean you need me to do ref templates somewhere? Thanks! Drmies (talk) 02:30, 11 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]
You deserve a bigger accolade. But I couldn't bring myself to do more in recognizing your many contributions. So this will have to do. I do not need you to do templates. Haha, you're stingy! Listen, I appreciate it. Ha, we're watching this mother of 13 on TV, what a.. well, never mind. Rosie and Elisabeth are both asleep, so all is well. There's nothing big at AfD, though I just remembered there was a mine in Nevada a week or two ago--I didn't know at the time kelapstick was into mining. No, I'm still sourcing a couple of things, like barbecue sauce and Dante and his Divine Comedy in popular culture--and that latter one is a drag, esp. the computer games. Sheesh. I'm almost done with Kronos Quartet discography; all I need to do is add a couple dozen of their contributions to other albums and then it's done. I'm not nominating it for anything; I'm still bummed out about Miracle of the roses. And I'm trying to work on all the islands of St Kilda--there also, thanks for your help. The issue of whether you can just dip is a big one. See the article's talk page. The only photo I could find is of the bacon dipping in chocolate variety, but it doesn't really strike me as true chocolate covered bacon (It's not covered entirely, the chocolate is in soft liquid form, and the accoutrements aren't added). So we have a BIG problem. :) You missed the excitement of my creating an article, having it speedied, K-stick putting a hold-on tag on it, having the speedy nom removed, having it AfDed, have the AfD speedily closed, in 17 minutes. Beat that! What's for dinner? I just had a sunny side up egg sandwich, a salad with sliced radish and Japanese sesame dressing, a California ruby red grapefruit, and some Pepperidge Farms cookies. ChildofMidnight (talk) 03:53, 14 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Hey, I haven't looked at the talk page yet. Look at the article: I just added two refs (well, 'refs'), one from 2005 and one more recent, and both (stoned college kids, no doubt) simply melted chocolate. I think a ganache ought to be the way to go. Well, tomorrow is Saturday, and often I make bacon and biscuits... I may cook some extra rashers! I did follow the excitement a bit, and it is my honor and privilege to extend to you a Laurel and Hardy handshake. Oh, I've been AfDing too--look at .22 Cheetah. Yes, a bullet. Aren't you proud of me? Dinner was simple--hash with potatoes, leftover grilled sausage, bacon, leftover grilled chicken, onions, bell pepper. Elisabeth got to cut the bell pepper with her own knife (from Sinterklaas), and she did real good for a 3-year old. Oh, we had a baby shower at work today, and we're all wiped out...Don't let a kid miss a nap! Drmies (talk) 04:06, 14 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Drmies: I was hoping I could get you to take another look at Tariq Farid and amend your comments on the article's AFD discussion. Since the time you saw it, another editor has been made considerable efforts to clean it up and bring it up to standards.

Thanks, and I love the boobies.

Quite scandalous. Is there someone who has one? or Can anyone get a new one?

Additional question

what's the horse name? Amerigo or Laura Financinga?

http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Sinterklaas&curid=520006&diff=270406815&oldid=270375571

Sinterklaas traditionally rides a white horse. In the Netherlands this horse goes by the name Amerigo or Laura Financinga, while in Belgium the horse is either nameless or is called "Slecht weer vandaag," literally "bad weather today."

Warrington (talk) 10:26, 13 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

  • Hey Warrington, I saw that! That's terrible! I looked at the bot's page, and at the image file, and I don't know what the problem is. Maybe Scapler can help? Doesn't he help ChildofM out with images? As for the horse of Sinterklaas, I honestly don't know. That Belgian name supposedly comes from a TV show, but I'm not Belgian, and the remark is entirely unreferenced. As far as I know, the horse is called "the horse of Sinterklaas"... Drmies (talk) 15:17, 13 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Traveller and Robert E. Lee
Robert E. Lee also rode a white horse (Traveller) didn't he? Coincidence? ChildofMidnight (talk) 20:11, 13 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]
  • Nice hor~sey, is she called Laura Financinga? Warrington (talk) 21:12, 13 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Nice picture--if you don't mind, I'll keep quiet on the topic. The editorial page of our local newspaper sees these discussions constantly, on who the greatest hero is; in my county, MLK day is also RELee day--about as embarrassing as it gets, if you're even a bit like me, that is. I tell you what, none of my daughters will go to Robert E. Lee High School or Jefferson Davis. Drmies (talk) 21:15, 13 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Is MLK day Lee's birthday or something? The day he died? That seems over the top. I do think that it's important to keep historical figures in context. He was a general and a noble, as best I can tell, man. I think most reasonable people agree he fought on the wrong side. That being said, all humans make mistakes, and while this is certainly part of his story it isn't his only defining characteristic. I would also point out that Marx's ideas as applied have resulted in incredible suffering and millions of deaths, the Noble prize was created in part to atone for the destructive uses of dynamite, Darwin's ideas have been used repeatedly to justify genocide, and Einstein helped bring about nuclear weapons that threaten to wipe out life as we know it. So we all have good and bad points, MLK included. Wasn't he unfaithful to his wife? ChildofMidnight (talk) 22:17, 13 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

300px|thumb|left|Idefix

I think down here it was either both get a day or neither. And to think that he preached a block away from where my wife works. Of course, the Civil War started right here in town. Now, as for Lee's nobility, sure--and there's a great essay, "Grant and Lee: A Study in Contrasts" (can't think of the author right now). But you said "most reasonable people agree he fought on the wrong side," well, I got news for you: this is the South. Most people don't agree on that at all. And leave Marx alone, will you--or Jenny will get upset. Drmies (talk) 22:31, 13 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

A very wise decision. Left a message to Scapler, and Dogmatix the picture is back again!!! A good advice and a good job. I also put a citation needed on that Financinga-Amerigo thing.

Most definitely Idefix! This Scapler is a scary guy. He left terribly horrific messages on my talk page. I am so scared won't be able to talk any more, only say things like this:

Beware the Jabberwock, my son! The jaws that bite, the claws that catch! Beware the Jubjub bird, and shun The frumious Bandersnatch!"

Who is Jenny? I do think it's interesting that a president who was unable to keep the country united and presided over the first and only civil war in our history that cost hundreds of thousands of lives is as celebrated as he is. Of course south was ravaged and its not really clear how much the plight of former slaves really improved is it? I'm not arguing against ending slavery of course, but was that the only way? The right way? I'm just asking. I hope that's allowed (I know it's not here on Wikipedia, but I'm doing it anyway). But perhaps the conclusion is that his only choice was to let the country be divided (which doesn't seem so bad to me) and to allow the south to remain an area of slave holding (for how long? was there another way to end it?)? I don't have all the answers, but the more I've thought about it the less impressed I am. The handling of the war effort was a disaster as well, as I udnerstand it. I think it's an interesting subject anyway. I find it's touchy to discuss it civilly because it's so tied up (legitimately) with the issue of slavery which is obviously unconscienable. If indentured servitude and grotesque oppression is worth going to war over, I wonder why Europe isn't with us when we start them and why there isn't more of a push to deal with North Korea and Myanmar (Burma)? If you have a chance let me know Dr., will you? Gracias. ChildofMidnight (talk) 04:03, 14 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Jenny was Marx's wife. Supposedly they have a very happy love-life. You blame Lincoln for not keeping the country united? That's not how most historians see it...the country was breaking up anyway. I'm a diehard abolitionist, and I consider L. one of the (three or four) greatest Americans ever, and the Gettysburg Address one of the greatest speeches ever (I like Lincoln at Gettysburg: The Words That Remade America, for instance). He considered the Union to be indivisible, and so secession was not an option (needless to say, he wasn't the only one). And sure, I'll bite--for me it's inextricably bound up with slavery, which had been going on for far too long. But also, do not forget what the Fugitive Slave Law of 1850 did, morally (see chapter 9 of Uncle Tom's Cabin, "In Which It Appears That a Senator Is But a Man") and legally, for all states in the Union. Now I'll grant you that the liberation of other peoples (when done honestly--not like last time...) is pretty much the same thing. Myanmar is unconscionable, no doubt about it, and I wonder about that too--maybe the memory of Vietnam is too much alive. North Korea is a horror house. I don't know; maybe these things are worth going to war over, but I try to be a pacifist. Now, for another depressing note, The Joy of Cooking does not have a separate entry for bacon--that's sad. Hey, did you see Lake of No Return? That's Myanmar also, but look at the article (not all of it is my writing) and the sources: India seems to treat it as if its theirs. Alright, that's enough soapboxing from me. Later! (PS Your fault: I had some huevos rancheros for lunch: delicious!) Drmies (talk) 04:43, 14 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Wuuh- I left a new message to Scapler. Hopefully he will not revard me with more vampires...

Internationally, the most renowned Swedish Swedish meal is Köttbullar, Swedish meatballs. Meatballs, really????? let me know about the international gossip Warrington (talk) 10:33, 16 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Sweden's national dish (fish)?
Smorgasbord includes a variety of foods. I would say meatballs are the most famous Swedish food. Gravlox is pretty good stuff, but it is perhaps shared with other countries? Meatballs are widespread too actually. What about Swedish Fish? Also, please make sure to use the international language. No one should be forced to learn foreign languages against their will. :) Ignorance c'est bliss. ChildofMidnight (talk) 21:06, 16 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

(for those less knowlegable=for a Flying Dutch)

Meatballs? But meatballs are no big deal, actually. Everybody has meatballs, almost all countries in the world, from China to Indonesia, that is not typically Swedish at all, they did not invented it, it is international. The Swedis meatballs are neatballs, slightyly smaller, but still meatballs... It is like saying Argentina (let’s say) is renowned for hot dogs.

Than gravlax is a much better choise, that is at least Scandinavian. Do Dutch eat crisp bread?

Warrington (talk) 09:47, 17 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

  • Sure, but Swedish meatballs are somewhat specific, and quite different from others, and in the US, they are something of a thing, instead of, for instance, Dutch meatballs. Yes, the Dutch eat crisp bread (and they sell it here at Publix, fortunately--my daughter loves it), which we call knackebrod, made by Wasa and Ryvita (I like Wasa best). Hey, my Swedish sucks, though I did try this morning: there's a little girl at my daughter's school whose mom is Swedish. But she was way too shy to respond to my basic questions--vad heter du? Jag heter M...., etc. I'm totally out of practice! Drmies (talk) 15:17, 17 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

:)))more candy[edit]

Traditional brown rock sugar.

  • Are they, something of a thing and different from others, in what way are they different ? Och:Vad heter du? Jag heter den sjuhövdade draken...

There is no Dutch knackebrod-eating mentioned in the article...Warrington (talk) 16:05, 17 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

    • OK, you got me--I can't figure out what sjuhövdade means. Hmmm, kandijsuiker...that was a treat when I was young. How are Swedish meatballs different? From what? The Dutch balls? Dutch meatballs are bigger--one ball, one serving, tennisball size. Also, Dutch balls are usually "half and half," that is, half pork and half beef, so they're not as soft as the Swedish ones, and of course they are served very differently. Alton Brown makes Swedish (or Scandinavian, I guess) meatballs on one of his episodes; they look very tasty. I've only had them once or twice--my Swedish teacher in college threw us all a party one time. Muy delicioso. Drmies (talk) 23:15, 17 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]
I'm pretty sure Drmies is saying the Dutch have bigger ones than the Swedes. Warrington, would you like to respond? Also, my latest quest is to have Michael Jackson decertified as a businessman in the lead sentence. This stems of course from my efforts to have Tina referred to as an icon. So you see it's all connected. ChildofMidnight (talk) 00:12, 18 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Sure they are small, (golfball-tennisball) but do they taste different? Can't get this Swedish meatball fame-thing. Who is to blame? IKEA?

Love kandijsuiker, I prefere that to baconchocolate. At least one sweet without trouble.

Ahm, sjuhövdad, that might be a bit tricky, but use common your dragon knowlege, sju=seven ... well? Seven +... dragon .. makes ?

A dragon with seven heads!

Is it kandijsuiker in this bread, http://www.worldcook.net/Cooking/Bread/BR-FriesianSugarBread.htm they are http://www.worldcook.net/Cooking/Bread/BR-FriesianSugarBread.htm talk about sugar lumps.Warrington (talk) 23:55, 17 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

The way I see it (I'll come to the defense of the bacon explosion), the question here is, how notable is this Blogger? Another thing, does this comment really deserve its own section? Isn't a sentence enough? Drmies (talk) 04:26, 18 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Here goes the usual whitewash. First you take out Barack Obama's having been raised in Pakistani terror camps, then Karl Rove's fondness for Joseph Goebels, and now this. Where will it end??? ChildofMidnight (talk) 04:43, 18 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Since I often confuse Danish and Dutch, I thought you might want to help Schmidty who has been asked to work on Danish International Logistical Center. Seems a fascinating subject. Who knew the Europeans had active military units? I thought they just did the occasional parade. ChildofMidnight (talk) 04:55, 18 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Wait--I thought I started that rumor about Karl Rove! I'm confused. I don't know much about military units. Europeans generally don't care that much, I think. Give us a few centuries to get back into that militaristic frame of mind that some other countries display so gloriously. Maybe the Danish army can start recruiting in Dutch socializing machines? Drmies (talk) 05:04, 18 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]
The Dutch prime minister is visiting the American president. At some point after dinner the president asks: "Do you have any hobbies?" The prime minister thinks for a moment and says, "Yes, I fok horses". "Pardon?" "Yes, paarden."

Lapwing[edit]

Well, you have the same long passage at Northern Lapwing, where it might be appropriate, and on the lapwing page where it probably isn't. I can see that the two pages can be confused, but wouldn't a pointer from the lapwing page to the correct Northern Lapwing page be adequate, instead of repeating the whole Ovidian saga twice? jimfbleak (talk) 20:03, 18 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Witghout having looked at either article, I agree with Jimfbleak. And I want it noted that these articles are for the birds.
I'm confident I can draw you into more exciting fare. What's your take on Odious Mortem? Michael Wines? Barack Obama's first 100 days in office? Only kidding, I like birds. They look a bit like Killdeers to me, only smaller.
One of the sources in the Dutch oven (practical joke) aricle has all kinds of saying using the word "Dutch". Some of them were funny, others just interesting. I wonder where they came from? Anyway, have fun. ChildofMidnight (talk) 21:14, 18 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Wait, not a killdeer. What are those birds that eat carrion on the road in Colorado? Anyone??? Hey, the citation for the marijuana related meaning of Dutch oven isn't very good. Should that part just be taken out? I couldn't find it mentioned in any reliable sources. I don't want to encourage that type of behavior or spread a meaning that isn't well established. What's shaking? I knew you didn't speak Swedish, but I thought it would be funny to suggest you be the one to translate. Those Swedish candy sticks are cool. Should it be its own article? I could see a merge, but candy cane is really a specific thing and so it doesn't seem like a good umbrella for these other candy types. So I guess I think they should each have their own article and be linked to one another with see alsos and what not. ChildofMidnight (talk) 21:32, 18 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Sorry, I'm lapwinging, so I'll be quick: I already removed that dope reference. And I got your joke, of course. I'll get back to you on the candy canes. ;) Drmies (talk) 21:35, 18 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Reminds me of my step-mother. I found a source that says Dutch slang terms originated during the Anglo-Dutch War in the 1740s (as I recall). Is this true? How fun. No one knows the bird I'm talking about that eats carrion??? Obviously y'all aren't ornithologists. ChildofMidnight (talk) 23:32, 18 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Eh...we have turkey buzzards here...Drmies (talk) 00:45, 19 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

The carrion eater is likely to be Turkey Vulture. Yes, it just needs referral from the two lapwing article to the longer Hoopoe section. There's nothing wrong with a culture/art section, and I normally have one in my FAs, for example I'm working on Tree Sparrow at the moment, and I've put in a section about Hokusai and Hirosige's depictions. It's just a matter of avoiding long repeated sections of text when a short referral from two of the articles to the most relevant one will satisfy the seeker after knowledge. I've added In Europe, "lapwing" often refers specifically to the Northern Lapwing, as the only member of this group to occur in most of the continent. to the lapwing article to reduce confusion. jimfbleak (talk) 07:14, 19 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I think I was thinking of a magpie, but it doesn't look anything like that bird. Isn't there a shorebird with a little thing on its head like that? Or those little birds that run around, a sage grouse of some sort, that look a bit like that? Perhaps not. Anyway, I have more important subjects to work on like Tina Turner's iconic status and the fight to decertify MJ from being referred to as a businessman. ChildofMidnight (talk) 20:00, 19 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Yes, shortbread, that's probably most like it. I'll take Warrington's word for the origin; they are associated with Amsterdam, that's a fact. On a related note, I'm wikirelaxing, since my folks are here, so when I'm absent, I'm probably eating cheese: they brought a ton, incl. two pounds of Beemster cheese, three pounds of edammer, and a pound of cumin cheese... Drmies (talk) 01:23, 22 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Oh of course, Enkhuizen! That Lotus site is quite right, I totally forgot. How could I? My brother lives there! Drmies (talk) 05:25, 22 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Enjoy. Best to your folks. Party on. ChildofMidnight (talk) 09:04, 22 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Gosh, I have to buy some cheese, imediately!!!!!!! ...this sounds delicious.

Fascism article[edit]

I wonder if you could look at Fascism#Political spectrum. The introductory sentence of this section is not supported by the footnotes, and much of the section is devoted to "left-wing fascism", which is not described elsewhere in the article. There has been discussion, but it has not been resolved. The Four Deuces (talk) 05:44, 21 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you. I appreciate the time you have taken to look at this. The Four Deuces (talk) 03:47, 22 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Little context in DeepPeep[edit]

Hello, this is a message from an automated bot. A tag has been placed on DeepPeep, by another Wikipedia user, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. Birds as food?[edit]

I have nothing against chicken, duck or even ostrich, but I can't help noticing that ever since working on that article on a remote island and its residents who survived on bird porridge, you've been a bit distracted... And now you want boobies instead of a nice plate of cheese and crackers? So yes, I'm a little worried. How about this wording for A.R.s introduction [40]? ChildofMidnight (talk) 03:26, 24 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Ha, yes. I've had a presentation to take care of at a conference, now my parents are here, visiting. And I had to play Scrabble tonight--lost to my mom :(--but I did manage to create an article, get it speedied (cause I had to take my parents to a bank midway through) and recreated it: DeepPeep. Things are busy around the house! The cheese plate was nice, I told you, but these boobies were so cute! Oh, I have a job too, haha. As for the Rand introduction, well, like I said before, I'm staying out of that one. Now you've been doing a lot of good work. Did you see the new photo at chocolate covered bacon? Drmies (talk) 04:14, 24 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Not as artful as Kelapstick's moody shadowed work, but fairly encyclopedic. I notice the criticism section for that article has been removed. "hear no evil". :) ChildofMidnight (talk) 04:35, 24 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Hey, you're missing the important point: I made it! and ate it! and got my wife and my mom to eat some too! As for kelapstick, they're a hard act to follow. Drmies (talk) 04:43, 24 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]
That is AWESOME!!! How is it? We had brown-sugar-glazed bacon (a winner every time) at a party over the weekend. Hadn't thought of writing an article but now the gears are turning . . . .Bongomatic 05:12, 24 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]
I actually knew you made it and I admired it with a large smile when I saw it. But I guess I'm no good at giving out accolades. I'm not even good at getting them. But it was a fine looking preparation and a job well done on a very nice photograph. Did your parents get to try them? I bet they can't wait for your Bacon explosion!!! Good times at the Mies, Dr. household. ChildofMidnight (talk) 05:29, 24 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Haha, I know you knew, I just wanted to hear it, I guess. Thanks! Yes, they both tried some and they won't be making it themselves, although they didn't hate it. Keep in mind, they're ordinary Dutch folk, and "wat de boer niet kent dat vreet ie niet!" ('what the farmer don't know he don't eat'). They're on their way to the FL beach today. No one here is waiting on a bacon explosion, haha. Including me. I think you should make one, some fancy west-coast version, with signage and all. Hey, I think you did really nice work on all those architecture articles.
Today I'm teaching Marie de France, which is tons of fun. Also, I finally completed my de:Lexikon des Mittelalters, so I'll be making biographical entries of very dead people. Have a great day! Drmies (talk) 15:21, 24 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I've determined that Marie de France was a late 19th Century hoax. ChildofMidnight (talk) 07:28, 25 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I enjoyed the Middle Ages encyclopedia thingy article, and I think the Middle Ages happened. ChildofMidnight (talk) 17:18, 25 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Hey, that's a start! You know, it sucks if you're like me and want to do the templates and all. I first had to get all the articles with reviews, and then I had to write another stub for that one journal so I could wikilink it. <sigh> Thanks, though, on behalf of the Middle Ages also! Drmies (talk) 17:20, 25 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

What does "non-confessional" articles mean? No Catholics allowed? I didn't see a template. Are you hallucinating? ChildofMidnight (talk) 17:40, 25 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Haha, look it up in Wiktionary. No, the templates are simply the ref templates. I'm thinking about making one for that Lexikon, when I start pumping those 36,000+ articles into Wikipedia. Hey, I left a bacon note on Bongo's talk page; maybe you're interested too! Drmies (talk) 18:03, 25 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]
I think various preparations of bacon can be covered on the bacon page. But I may be ready to work on another bacon dish in a few days. ChildofMidnight (talk) 23:07, 25 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Here's an article. ChildofMidnight (talk) 19:02, 25 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I feel a cold emptiness here, like something is missing. Voices silenced. Brrrrrrrrr... ChildofMidnight (talk) 18:12, 26 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Haha, I wanted to play nice. The editor responsible for this article has produced hundreds of 'em. I've been working on dirty french stories. You? Drmies (talk) 18:14, 26 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Following various dramatica related to the project. :) Interesting stuff. Utterly meaningless, time wasting, but intersting. ChildofMidnight (talk) 20:43, 26 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Is this something you gents know something about: Strangerfestival? ChildofMidnight (talk) 01:54, 27 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for pointing that out! There were some issues there, and I have made a few edits. Drmies (talk) 02:14, 27 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]
You would make a terrible mohel. ChildofMidnight (talk) 02:25, 27 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Are you following me? We have company--I wish they would stop coughing... Drmies (talk) 03:15, 27 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Sick people should be put on an island. Unless it's me who's sick. And in that case I should be coddled and fed homemade cooking of my choice. ChildofMidnight (talk) 04:37, 27 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

WAIT!!! I was just about to fix all those citations. Okay, maybe not. Speaking of sick people. Are the folks still in FL? What is the connection between you and MacGyver? Many mysteries. Many. ChildofMidnight (talk) 05:50, 27 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Oh gosh! I just noticed that this comment makes it seem like I might have been talking about your parents as sick people, but I meant me. Sorry about that. That's the problem with stream of consiousness writing I guess. ChildofMidnight (talk) 01:18, 28 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Hey, I just beat you to it, that's all. Maybe not! As it turns out, everyone at the house is a bit sick, except for me, and I'm the only mammal that actually has to go to work... I'm actually bailing out on a dinner party with my colleagues and boss tonight--and my boss tells me he ordered ribs from this place. :( Haha, tornado sirens are going off all the time here; what an exciting time to be alive. MGM? He's Dutch, like me, and I turn to him for administrative advice, so to speak. We're very much different, though, since I don't like Efteling, for instance. As for home cooking, I think tonight we'll have some pilaf and maybe a fish. Will that suit you? Drmies (talk) 20:44, 27 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]
I'll be at your boss's place for the ribs, thanks. Tornados and sick people? Blue skies here. I better go enjoy it for you. I figure you more for the Strangerfestival (although I can't remember what it's about) than amusement parks. Except of course Disney World. That's the real deal. Mickey and all. Warrington's latest kerfluffle (as opposed to Kerfuffle) involves timelines and pretzels if you want to have a look. Although as I recall you're a great fan of timelines, so perhaps you're biased. Diaramas are fun too, but not diarhea. What? ChildofMidnight (talk) 21:30, 27 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Hmmm. I'm not a great fan of timelines, not in this case anyway. Sorry W.--but thanks for the egg! Drmies (talk) 21:40, 27 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

What to do in that case:
