Revert Manually

Hi, I was just going through one of my new Wikipedia pages my parents help me build on my favorite fashion designer Michael Kuluva. We all saw that you flagged the post for not having any citations or references to the article, however it was a mistake to press publish when we were not finished yesterday. We have had some immediate help since then and have re-done our page for the fashion designer including more than 9 reputable references. If you could please manually revert your request to get the page deleted, that would be great. Thank you very much. - Serena S. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 66.214.129.6 (talkcontribs) 07:38, 9 October 2012‎

ARTICLE PREVIOUSLY DECLINED still not approved

Hi Dori

Thanks for getting back to me quite a while ago. Its my first chance to follow up. The subject of my article Eric Daman, is an Emmy award winning costume designer. I would think that woul dbe enough to be considered notable, but in addition I have included about 50 references detailing Daman's notability. His name appears on Wikipedia about 50 times also. I am perplexed as to why this article is not suitable for wikipedia.

here is a link to my sandbox with the article http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User:Ericdamanstyle/sandbox

Thanks for your assistance! Brian Lee Boyce Ericdamanstyle (talk) 21:17, 9 October 2012 (UTC)

Hi

Hi DoriSmith, I'm glad to talk to you, please I request to you to undo your edit of gastronomy of Trujillo. I've seen you have redirect to peruvian cousine. It's not the same topic. First is gastronomy of one city (Trujillo) and second is gastronomy of a country (Peru) Thank you so much.--Twicettowns (talk) 23:18, 12 October 2012 (UTC)

If you take a look at Peruvian cuisine, you'll see that it contains quite a bit of information about regional food as well as national. The info in your Trujillo articles would fit into Peruvian cuisine quite well, imo. DoriTalkContribs 23:23, 12 October 2012 (UTC)
Yes but having its own article is the posibility to get a wide article with more informtion and not to load so much peruvian article. Please I request to undo your edit.--Twicettowns (talk) 23:25, 12 October 2012 (UTC)
I recommend instead that you try adding it to Peruvian cuisine and seeing how it looks—the original wasn't that lengthy (imo). DoriTalkContribs 23:28, 12 October 2012 (UTC)

Hello, could oyu please explain why you redirected my page "USB to serial converter" to "Universal Serial Bus"? These are two completely different things. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Dmlmax (talkcontribs) 03:47, 14 October 2012 (UTC)

You added this as two separate questions, but let me cover the second one first: I don't know anything about a USB to serial converter article, and your contributions history doesn't show that you've worked on one.
So far as the Usb to serial adapter article goes, I redirected it to Universal Serial Bus for the same reason that USB adapter redirects there: the USB page covers adapters fairly thoroughly. If you have information that isn't already included in that page, please feel free to add it there. DoriTalkContribs 04:10, 14 October 2012 (UTC)

Page Curation newsletter - closing up!

Hey all :).

We're (very shortly) closing down this development cycle for Page Curation. It's genuinely been a pleasure to talk with you all and build software that is so close to my own heart, and also so effective. The current backlog is 9 days, and I've never seen it that low before.

However! Closing up shop does not mean not making any improvements. First-off, this is your last chance to give us a poke about unresolved bugs or report new ones on the talkpage. If something's going wrong, we want to know about it :). Second, we'll hopefully be taking another pass over the software next year. If you've got ideas for features Page Curation doesn't currently have, stick them here.

Again, it's been an honour. Thanks :). Okeyes (WMF) (talk) 12:11, 17 October 2012 (UTC)

WP:PROD is lowest level Deletion, can be removed by anyone. WP:CSD only by Admins

Dear Dori: was not putting another WP:PROD on Binders full of Women; if that had been the case, your comment would have made perfect sense. WP:CSD an entirely separate and Admin-only criterion. --Anonymous209.6 (talk) 04:19, 18 October 2012 (UTC)

The only person who can't remove a CSD is the creator of the original article. Outside of that, it's fair game. Note that Wikipedia:Criteria for speedy deletion says,

The creator of a page may not remove a speedy deletion tag from it. Only an editor who is not the creator of a page may do so.

Also, note that the history of Binders full of women included a statement regarding the earlier PROD,

It has enough coverage as an internet meme to reach WP:N. If it is going to be deleted, it should go through the AfD process.

The same absolutely applies regarding CSD as well. If you still have a problem with the article, take it to AFD. DoriTalkContribs 04:29, 18 October 2012 (UTC)

Dori, you are of course correct that anyone butthe creator can validly remove a CSD tag. But what i came here to mention is that, while I rather doubt that Jun Xia is notable enough to pass WP:PROF, he does pass speedy A7. Even a Associate professorship at a university like Beijing is a claim to importance. I gave the author some advice--I suggest you give him a few days to improve the article before listing it for deletion. DGG ( talk ) 01:48, 19 October 2012 (UTC)

Proposed deletion of my self-published book (Panama Editor)

Thanks… — Preceding unsigned comment added by Lordsereno (talkcontribs) 22:14, 19 October 2012 (UTC)

It's not so much that self-published books are considered non-notable, more that they aren't considered notable just because they've been published at all. I suggest that you read WP:NBOOK. DoriTalkContribs 03:40, 21 October 2012 (UTC)

A lot has been added to this since you tagged it, so I have declined the speedy as I think it now passes the low bar pf A7. Consider AfD. Regards, JohnCD (talk) 09:04, 21 October 2012 (UTC)

Dear Madam,

A few months ago, I added our gallery name, links, exhibitions on Liu Bolin Wikipedia page but you have deleted our contribution. http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Liu_Bolin&action=history

We are now representing Liu Bolin for more than 5 years now, organizing exhibitions selling his work in Europe and China. We could say that we are his main gallery in Europe as Eli Klein in the USA.

So, please, could you explain me why you have deleted our contribution?

Thank you

Best regards,

hello why did you deleted Tropical Depression 01W (2011)‎ article — Preceding unsigned comment added by Unogarcia (talkcontribs) 04:14, 29 October 2012 (UTC)

I didn't delete Tropical Depression 01W (2011)‎; I redirected it to 2011 Pacific typhoon season#Tropical Depression 01W. That's because the contents of the former were copied and pasted from the latter, such that the two had identical information. In that case, it made sense to leave the old existing article as it was and redirect the new article to the old. DoriTalkContribs 04:28, 29 October 2012 (UTC)
what if i make it again and use different words, are you nat going to delete that? And by the way why did you not redirect this article User:Unogarcia/Tropical depression 01w(2012)and User:Unogarcia/Tropical depression 01w (2011) while those article without User:Unogarcia/ was redirected? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Unogarcia (talkcontribs) 08:03, 29 October 2012 (UTC)
I haven't deleted anything, and I don't plan to, so please stop accusing me of that. And I wasn't interested in the pages in your userspace because those aren't Wikipedia articles. DoriTalkContribs 03:59, 30 October 2012 (UTC)
why do you keep redirecting my articles my three articles are all redirected. i did it for many hours then it will be redirected? come on, i just move my User article to a real article then it was redirected while my User article is not redirected
Because—as I wrote above—the pages in your user space are not articles. You can put almost anything you want to there, and no one will care. Once it's a mainspace article, though, people care very much what it contains. DoriTalkContribs 05:39, 31 October 2012 (UTC)

WPS&B deletion

Hi,

I'd only just started the page, and so hadn't expanded it fully/at all. I sent a request for the page to be reinstated, but thought to write here.

Large publishers have pages, why not small ones?

There is a list of dead small presses, why not live ones? With easily accessible, neutral information on their publication history, background and specialisation?

Astra.per (talk) 01:28, 31 October 2012 (UTC)

How does the company meet WP:CORP and/or WP:GNG?

IIRC, the company wasn't set to publish its first book until next month, so it's unlikely to have received much in the way of publicity yet. And if there are no verifiable and reliable independent third party sources with significant coverage on a topic, then there's nothing to use as a basis for an article. DoriTalkContribs 01:42, 31 October 2012 (UTC)

Well now it has a deleted wikipedia page as first entry on google, so I'm sure that won't hamper their launch in 12 days at all. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Astra.per (talkcontribs) 18:17, 31 October 2012 (UTC)

Don't BLP-prod hoaxes and vandalism

Be careful not to blpprod hoaxes and vandalism. This often prevents them from being addressed through CSD as they should be. Gigs (talk) 01:22, 1 November 2012 (UTC)

You didn't say which article you're referring to, so I can't go back and check—but my guess is that I added the BLP-PROD because I didn't think that it was a hoax/vandalism. I've got no problem with CSD-ing things when I come across stuff that's clearly crap. DoriTalkContribs 20:36, 1 November 2012 (UTC)

I removed the BLPPROD from George Ant as there were two references, albeit unreliable, present in the article when the BLPPROD was applied. I did add a regular Prod to the article as I was unable to find any refs. Bgwhite (talk) 05:48, 1 November 2012 (UTC)

Sorry, confused here—you say there were two references, but then you PROD'd it for having no references. DoriTalkContribs 20:36, 1 November 2012 (UTC)
It is confusing. To apply a BLPPROD, there has to be *no* references whatsoever, reliable or unreliable. People get confused with that all the time, including a bureaucrat and two admins last month.
I applied the Prod because there were no reliable refs.
Whoever is writing the article removed the Prod. There still is no reliable refs that talk about Ant. The one from Bizznews is an interview. I think the article is destined for AfD. You found the article first, so do you want to do the AfD? Bgwhite (talk) 20:47, 1 November 2012 (UTC)

THE DESIREE speedy deletion

Hey DoriSmith, I saw that you tagged THE DESIREE for speedy deletion under the A7 criterion. When you tag an article for speedy deletion using Twinkle and you didn't access the article from new pages log, it doesn't mark it as patrolled. If possible in the future, can you mark the article as patrolled when you tag it for speedy deletion? Thanks and keep up the good CSD work. -- Luke (Talk) 01:11, 8 November 2012 (UTC)

Joëlle Morosoli

Hi, I saw that you put a banner for deletion on the Morosoli article, claiming that it has no references. But there is a whole section of bibliography, with numerous articles written on that artist. Isn't it sufficent? Beside, the article is a translation of the one I made in french that have no legiblity concern. Could you indicate me what is missing? Yours truly --Guerinf (talk) 22:30, 8 November 2012 (UTC)

What's allowed on fr.wiki doesn't necessarily work on en.wiki, and vice versa, as each has their own rules. What's primarily missing from Joëlle Morosoli is footnotes—for any given piece of information on that page, where can it be found in which reliable source? Add thorough footnotes, and I'll be happy to remove the {{prod-blp}} DoriTalkContribs 03:06, 9 November 2012 (UTC)
Ok, if I undestand well, it needs a link between the article and the sources mentionned in the bibliography. I will add footnotes during the coming week. Please do not remove the article until I ask you to check if everything is okay. Still, I am surprised of that. In french, there is a commitee to decide if a page should be remove or not. Everybody is invited to give an opinion. It is not the same in english? Beside, Mme Morosoli is a well-known artist in Quebec. She surely deserves an article, even on the english wiki? Thanks. Guerinf (talk) 14:55, 9 November 2012 (UTC)
I have added three references to the text. I am waiting for a few others form the artist herself. Is it correct for the legimity or the article? Thanks--Guerinf (talk) 17:09, 12 November 2012 (UTC)
The article still needs a great deal of work, but I've removed the prod-BLP notice. I've added a few cleanup tags to give you an idea of what kind of work is still required to improve the page. DoriTalkContribs 05:31, 13 November 2012 (UTC)

LencaOromo (talk) 02:06, 9 November 2012 (UTC)

Tagged for deletion: TalentsFromIndia

Hello DoriSmith. I just wanted to let you know, that I saw you tagged TalentsFromIndia for speedy deletion for the reason "That's actually only a moderate-sized company (the larger ones are in the thousands)". I am a great fan of this company & as it is Indore, India based company. The number of employees its having is really big & notable for the place it belongs to. You can see other similar companies too which belongs to Indore like InfoBeans. I have updated some references too. Please have a look & don't delete it please. Its a humble request from my side. Actually, that wasn't the reason I tagged it for CSD (no claim of significance + pure advertisement) or for prod (Unsourced article about non-notable company. Pure advertising; peacock claims have no references.) You removed the latter, so I've now tagged it for deletion (Unremarkable subsidiary. Ya feel so good CSD

Hey there. You tagged the above article as a G1, but judging from the attached Youtube link, it seems like it's a Korean meme, and thus falls under A7. I've changed it to be so. Am i correct? Buggie111 (talk) 04:02, 13 November 2012 (UTC)

Six of one, half dozen of another in my opinion. Either way, Ya feel so good was deletable, and it's now history. DoriTalkContribs 05:39, 13 November 2012 (UTC)

Speedy deletion contested: TalentsFromIndia

Hello DoriSmith. I am just letting you know that I contested the speedy deletion of TalentsFromIndia, a page you tagged for speedy deletion, because of the following concern: A7: Makes a claim of significance: "the largest web development and web design team in India, having a strength of 100+ engineers and designers". Thank you. —Theopolisme 01:50, 10 November 2012 (UTC)

That's actually only a moderate-sized company (the larger ones are in the thousands). I'll take it to Prod. DoriTalkContribs 01:52, 10 November 2012 (UTC)
Sure, sounds fine. —Theopolisme 01:53, 10 November 2012 (UTC)
Hello Dori..please don't delete this page...its a humble request. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Abhishekjain.ims (talkcontribs) 05:49, 13 November 2012 (UTC)
I don't have any say on whether it's deleted or not; it's now listed at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/TalentsFromIndia. As I said below, please feel free to add your opinion there. DoriTalkContribs 05:53, 13 November 2012 (UTC)
Hello Dori, now please check the article TalentsFromIndia as I have updated more video references. kindly remove the flag "article for deletion"
As I said elsewhere here, at least once, "I don't have any say on whether it's deleted or not; it's now listed at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/TalentsFromIndia.". DoriTalkContribs 04:03, 14 November 2012 (UTC)

Footballer page

I don't understand. I tried to create a page for the young footballer. What's wrong please? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 84.205.231.44 (talk) 11:58, 13 November 2012 (UTC)

You didn't give me any information to go on (the name of the page or the account used to create it, for instance), so I can't be of much help. Other than that, I suggest you read WP:NFOOTBALL, as that might be useful. DoriTalkContribs 04:03, 14 November 2012 (UTC)

RfA

Hi Dori. I've been running an automated search through Category:Wikipedia administrator hopefuls for potential admin candidates and your name popped up as someone who appears to have all of the qualifications to be an admin. Do you still have any interest in running? If so, do you believe there are any reasons that editors would oppose you at RfA?

If this is something you're still interested in, I'd be willing to go through your contributions in more detail, and (assuming there are no major stumbling blocks) nominate you for adminship. Let me know if you're interested. ‑Scottywong| speak _ 01:04, 13 November 2012 (UTC)

It's an honor just to be asked, so thank you very much!

I don't know of any reason I'd be opposed, but that doesn't seem to stop some from opposing anyhow (I spend too much of my time having articles deleted, I don't have any GAs or FAs, insufficient RPPs, WP:WhoKnowsWhatElse…).

Yes, I'd like you to go through my contributions in detail—but feel free to make it very low priority, 'cause I'm fairly busy for the next few weeks.

And again, thanks! DoriTalkContribs 06:04, 13 November 2012 (UTC)

Ok, will do. I'll be in touch in a few days. ‑Scottywong| gossip _ 06:13, 13 November 2012 (UTC)

Ok, so I've taken a look at your contributions in more detail. Personally, I would support your RfA. However, I'm familiar enough with RfA to know that you would get some opposition, mainly because your contributions lack any significant content creation. You mainly do more gnomish tasks rather than writing new articles from scratch. Most admins (including myself) perform mostly gnomish maintenance tasks as well. However, many voters at RfA need to have confidence that a candidate understands the content creation process, can tell good content from bad content, has an appreciation for the amount of work that goes into content creation, and is sympathetic to the frustrations inherent in disagreements regarding content.

To date, you've created 10 articles. 7 of them are disambiguation pages. Of the remaining 3, Extreme Reality is unreferenced (and your only contribution to it was the initial page move that created it); Madrona Manor is actually a decent short article (arguably C-class) that recently failed a (somewhat premature) GA nomination; and List of serving utensils is a short list article. As for the articles that you didn't create but made a lot of edits to, more of the edits tend to be reverting vandals than developing content.

I think that if you had a solid GA under your belt, you'd have a very good chance of passing an RfA. If you went to RfA now, you'd probably have about a 50/50 chance, and things could turn ugly. Do you think there is anything more to be written about Madrona Manor? If that article could be fleshed out and expanded, that would probably be your easiest path to a GA.

If my assessment is wrong, please don't hesitate to tell me. I certainly didn't look at every one of your 20,000+ edits, so I could have easily missed something. I hope you don't mind me analyzing your contributions on your talk page in such a brutally honest way (please let me know if you do). Let me know your thoughts on what I've said when you get a chance. Cheers. ‑Scottywong| chat _ 23:23, 14 November 2012 (UTC)

Okay, this was the same as my initial gut reaction when you first mentioned it, so it sounds like I have a realistic opinion (otoh, I've since received two PMs offering to co-nom, so there is that…).

Yes, I have plans (and a solid source) to take Madrona Manor up to a GA—I just need to find the time that it needs and deserves to do so. Another article where I'm proud of my work is Tom Luckey, although that needs some updating as well since he recently passed away. I didn't create it, but I'd guess about 90% of it is my work. Those are my two DYKs.

Okay if I drop you a line when I think I'm in good stead? Warning: it may take a while. DoriTalkContribs 01:55, 15 November 2012 (UTC)

To be clear, I'd be happy to nom/co-nom now; I just think you'd have a much better chance after getting an article to GA. And if you fail your first RfA, it will be a minimum of 6-12 months before you can realistically try again. Also, if you've received other offers for nomination and you'd prefer to go with them, please don't hesitate to tell me, I promise I won't be upset. This is about you successfully getting through RfA, not about me successfully nominating someone. ‑Scottywong| squeal _ 15:21, 15 November 2012 (UTC)
I don't feel like there's any need to hurry, so I'm happy to wait until we agree the odds are better. DoriTalkContribs 08:35, 19 November 2012 (UTC)
