Edit regarding to fictional religions
Hey, I honestly don't get it why you have to revert my edit regarding to a fictional religion that also acts as a parody in Watch Dogs 2. Not to start a war but still, its a parody of Scientology, but I don't get your statement on why my edit has "no evidence that the religion itself has real-world significance" 20chances (talk) 06:39, 10 December 2021 (UTC)
- Because you didn't provide any evidence that the fictional religion has gained any real-world attention. There's no significant discussion at Watch Dogs 2 and the religion doesn't have an article of its own and you didn't provide any sources when you added it to the list. This is discussed at WP:LISTCRITERIA. "As Wikipedia is an encyclopedia and not a directory, repository of links, or means of promotion, and should not contain indiscriminate lists, only certain types of lists should be exhaustive. Criteria for inclusion should factor in encyclopedic and topical relevance, not just verifiable existence." December 2021
Hey, I changed the page for Walt Disney Records: The Legacy Collection back to what I originally had, only with sources this time. I was wondering, though: I have credible sources proving Jodi Benson sang the actual reprise, since that is how it is listed on all streaming services. However, I was unsure with how to cite an accurate source for the fact that it was miscredited on the cd itself. I currently have a listing of the cd on Discogs, where all the notes are taken from the cd itself of course. This is a credible source, but then again, that is still not concrete proof. Concrete proof would be to provide a picture of the inside of the cd as a source, which is possible, but then I would have to use random websites, which aren't exactly credible sources. So my question boils down to: Do I go for a credible source, that is less concrete? Or do I go for a concrete source that is less credible? --> RuuBjAh (talk) 00:10, 30 December 2021 (UTC)
- You're kind of catching me at a bad time for questions like this, in that this is just a stressful week on my end...however, Discogs appears to not be a reliable source per this discussion and its listing here. I think ideally you should find a source that discusses the miscrediting. Pictures aren't reliable as they're easily manipulated. I have never had a "talk" so excuse me if I'm not writing in the right place.
Regarding the attempt(s) I've made regarding cover version, I was unaware of the wikipedia not being considered a reliable source - but I suppose it makes sense. My motive, for what it's worth, was trying to highlight a recent, but apparently obscure version, and bring it to the fore after I happened across it. My understanding of 2.3 of the guideline was that discogs and/or allmusic would meet the criteria of reliable.
As far as notability, the only published mentions of it I found were in two blog post type reviews. I believe it is noteworthy due to its samba approach and horn section, but that's just one guys opinion. The logic gets a little circular, in that one would first need to know of the performer to stumble across her rendition of the song (as I did), but with the song being much more likely to be searched, an inclusion of the unusual cover could lead reader to seek out the other artist.
I have no vested interest in either. It just caught my ear as unusual, and again noteworthy (at least to me).

- With regards to cover songs and "in popular culture" items, as discussed at WP:SONGCOVER and WP:IPCV respectively, we impose an additional requirement that sources which are provided must demonstrate not only that the cover or IPC item exists, but also that it gained some level of significance/attention from third-party sources. One primary reason for this is to avoid bloating articles with irrelevant references. If I sing a song that ends up on an album, that doesn't automatically make my cover of it significant, especially if hundreds of other people have covered the same song. Hence we need my cover to be significant enough that an RS takes notice of it.

Question
Regarding your ANI post; why wouldn't an IP user be aware of messages posted to their talk page if their edits are mobile web edits? (I'm asking here so as not to derail the ANI.) Thanks - wolf 21:13, 21 January 2022 (UTC)
- I think there's been issues in the past with mobile editors not getting Talk page notifications? I could be getting my terminology/methodologies wrong, and you're welcome to correct me if so, but I'm thinking of The Tragic Case of CejeroC (talk · contribs) for instance. - Thanks for the reply, and the link... it was an interesting read. I, like Cullen328, do most of my edits via smartphone using the desktop site because, I, like Cullen328, think that the WP App for Android sucks. That said, I didn't realize that there was any kind of notification issue with talk pages via the App. That could be useful information going forward. Cheers - wolf 03:45, 22 January 2022 (UTC)
- It's an unfortunate situation, because I hate the idea of blocking potentially productive editors solely because they're not reading notifications they don't even know they have, but at the same time, if they're engaging in disruptive edits and aren't checking their Talk page, there doesn't seem to be a lot of other options available to try to flag them down. - Well, they can't be completely ignorant of talk pages. There's links for talk pages on every article and user page, and when issues arise, there are often edit summaries such as; "go to the talk page", or "as per the talk page", etc. All that said, I will add on a side note that I checked my app after my last comment here (I have it, just don't use it), it turns out I was still logged in and there was a red notification ball at the top corner with the digit "2" inside to indicate the most recent two pings I had received... so, maybe it works for some and not others, or only works some of the time, or depends on the type of notification, or works for registered accounts and not IPs, or only works for me cuz I'm special, or... who knows? Anyway, I closed the app down and don't plan to use it again anytime soon. Cheers. - wolf 08:24, 22 January 2022 (UTC)
