Ordering[edit]

The default order of the list is by

  1. counry
  2. province/state
  3. city
  4. organisation
  5. type
  6. number

Scope[edit]

The scope of this article may be excessive and difficult to manage. It might make more sense to limit the list to councils and notable troops.

It would also be easier for Girl Scout and Boy Scout insiders with data at their fingertips to maintain. --Unicorn Tapestry {say} 00:51, 8 September 2014 (UTC)[reply]

I have drastically reduced the list just now, to cover just units that seem notable. Any scouting unit that is individually wikipedia-notable, i.e. has its own wikipedia article, should be included. And others that have some importance established by sources should be included. This is to help preserve the list from being deleted in ongoing AFD aimed at deleting it.... I think the list-article is useful and should be kept; it just should not be an exhaustive directory-type list of mostly not-notable-at-all items, IMHO. --doncram 21:57, 21 September 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Lead[edit]

I was going to change the lead to start with "This is a list of notable Scouting, Guiding and Scout-like local units." But it is so USA centric at the moement that it needs a complete rework. An we capitalize Scouting and Guiding in this context. --  Gadget850 talk 22:49, 21 September 2014 (UTC)[reply]

I adjusted the lede per your suggestion, and the list includes more non-U.S. entries now. Thanks. Please do feel free to edit the lede further. --doncram 16:55, 25 September 2014 (UTC)[reply]

The future[edit]

If this article is ever going to be moved back into main space, I think two things (at least) have to be addressed. First, we need to be quite clear about the inclusion criteria. Second, we need to change the title. It must take into account the US situation where Troops and Packs are quite independent units and also the more common situation where Troops, Packs, Rover Crews, Venture Units, etc. are just parts of a Scout Group. It must also be inclusive of Girl Guide and Girl Scout units. Personally I am not sure that this article is worth the bother of getting right, but others may disagree. It should certainly be discussed on the Scouting Project rather than just here. --Bduke (Discussion) 08:12, 3 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]
