Douglas MacArthur[edit]

Thanks for your assistance with Douglas MacArthur. Perhaps you could leave your thoughts on Wikipedia:Featured article candidates/Douglas MacArthur/archive1. Thanks! Hawkeye7 (talk) 21:04, 4 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you, Hawkeye7. You have done a great deal of hard work on this excellent article on a very complex and important American figure. I really would like to see this article as a FA, but there appears to be a growing consensus that the article is too detailed. Seems to me we have little choice but to strip the article down a little, or it will be denied.
This is the first time I have involved myself with a FA nomination, and you can see that I have only been nipping at the edges a little here and there. I wish to proceed with great caution, as I do not want to inadvertently do anything that might hinder the article's acceptance. So if it's OK with you, for now I would like to work a little behind the scenes.
I have taken the liberty of condensing the "World War I" section of the article (from 13,892 bytes down to 10,733 bytes), but I have done this on a userpage I created as a sandbox, because I do not want to destabilize the article in any way without first reaching some sort of consensus. As you have clearly invested the greatest amount of time and effort in this article, I really do not want to significantly reduce the content without your input. Please check User:DiverDave/MacArthur rewrite, and give me your thoughts when you get a chance. If you think I am on the right track, I can try to do the same thing with some of the other sections, with an eye to bringing the overall article length down to an "acceptable" level, whatever that means. Let me know how else I can help! DiverDave (talk) 14:49, 5 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks Dave. I have incorporated your changes. The main changes was a drastic cut to MacArthur's most famous battle, at Châttillon. Hawkeye7 (talk) 20:59, 5 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]
You made a mistake. The Seventh Fleet was not part of Nimitz' Pacific Fleet; it was part of King's US Fleet. At least until July 1945. I'll create an article on VII Amphibious Force. Hawkeye7 (talk) 05:49, 7 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you for your attention to detail, and for catching my error, Hawkeye7. I will review this in detail, as well as all other edits I have made. This is more than a little embarrassing for me. I really should know better, given that I spent 15 years on active duty with the U.S. Navy.... I really appreciate your allowing me to collaborate with you on this project, and I hope to see this article reach FA status very soon. DiverDave (talk) 11:32, 7 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

This is an automated message from CorenSearchBot. I have performed a search with the contents of Mount Storegutt, and it appears to be very similar to another Wikipedia page: Wikipedia:WikiProject Missing encyclopedic articles/Antarctica/S7. It is possible that you have accidentally duplicated contents, or made an error while creating the page— you might want to look at the pages and see if that is the case. If you are intentionally trying to rename an article, please see Help:Moving a page for instructions on how to do this without copying and pasting. If you are trying to move or copy content from one article to a different one, please see Wikipedia:Copying within Wikipedia and be sure you have acknowledged the duplication of material in an edit summary to preserve attribution history.

This message was placed automatically, and it is possible that the bot found similarity where none actually exists. If that is the case, you can remove the tag from the article and it would be appreciated if you could drop a note on the maintainer's talk page. CorenSearchBot (talk) 21:15, 2 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

DYK[edit]

Please look at T:DYK/Q4 and think quickly - you can't have same hook and same picture twice, thus this queue interferes with your multi-glacier hook. There are two easy solutions - remove that hook from Q4 (which I can do) or find another hook for the T:TDYK glaciers. There is one hour left to the launch of queue 4. Materialscientist (talk) 04:57, 7 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for the heads-up, Materialscientist. Sorry, but I cannot think of an interesting new hook for the 12-banger on such short notice. If only one of these two hooks can be approved, I would have to choose the 12-glacier hook I have just submitted. I do not know how to remove the current hook from the queue, so I would greatly appreciate your assistance in this matter. Respectfully, DiverDave (talk) 05:11, 7 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]
I am going to return your hook from queue 4 to T:TDYK and replace it with another one there. This will leave us some time. Best option is usually to combine all those nominations under one hook; or, if possible, split them with 2 or more different hooks. Materialscientist (talk) 05:19, 7 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Can I add Baudissin Glacier and Challenger Glacier to the 12-glacier hook to make a 14-article hook? All of these glaciers are located on Heard Island, and all are indeed currently in negative mass balance. The reason I had split them out originally is because those two articles were created on 30 May, and were getting a little stale for DYK. DiverDave (talk) 05:36, 7 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]
As exception, yes, but see comment by hamiltonstone below. Materialscientist (talk) 05:39, 7 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]
I am on it; fixing the articles now. Thank you very much, and I am in your eternal debt! DiverDave (talk) 05:43, 7 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Your multiglacier hook at DYK[edit]

...well, not so much the hook, which i think is fone, and all the articles met the 1500 character benchmark etc, but i really don't think you should have those huge tables of species in there. They are not spcies associated with the glacier - the area in which they are found must cover the whole of Heard Island and probably more besides. Just delete them. Species recorded in the article should be associated with the specific feature of which the article is the subject. Also, I don't think those sentences you have in some of the glacier articles, about there being no species within 1 degree, are accurate. When I clicked through the little fauna link at the bottom of the greographic names page, it came up with a list. hamiltonstone (talk) 05:01, 7 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

You are correct on both counts, Hamiltonstone. I very much appreciate your attention to detail. Truth is, I am still working furiously on all of these articles. The flora/fauna are indeed associated with all of Heard Island. My original intent was to add the flora/fauna wikitable to each of the articles. What I think I should do (give me some time, as I have to take care of my real job for the next 16 hours or so) is delete the wikitables from all of the articles, and instead probably create a new article entitled Flora and fauna of Heard Island. I can then add the or template to each of the glacier articles if need be. Does this sound like a reasonable approach? Regards, DiverDave (talk) 05:26, 7 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, though once you've tidied the glacier articles up short-term, have a look at WP:EMBED before you get too far with Flora and fauna of Heard Island - it might also need to be List of flora and fauna of Heard Island. CHeers, hamiltonstone (talk) 05:34, 7 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Reviewer granted[edit]

Hello. Your account has been granted the "reviewer" userright, allowing you to review other users' edits on certain flagged pages. Pending changes, also known as flagged protection, will be commencing a two-month trial at approximately 23:00, 2010 June 15 (UTC).

Reviewers can review edits made by users who are not autoconfirmed to articles placed under flagged protection. Flagged protection is applied to only a small number of articles, similarly to how semi-protection is applied but in a more controlled way for the trial.

When reviewing, edits should be accepted if they are not obvious vandalism or BLP violations, and not clearly problematic in light of the reason given for protection (see Wikipedia:Reviewing process). More detailed documentation and guidelines can be found here.

If you do not want this userright, you may ask any administrator to remove it for you at any time. –xenotalk 04:30, 16 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, I passed the article but overlooked the two [citation needed] tags. Can you find sources for them easily? Casliber (talk · contribs) 21:34, 26 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]
