Kaweah Peaks Ridge

I am afraid that the picture does not depict the Kaweah Peaks Ridge, for the most part anyways. I am very certain about that. It is a view of a section of the Great Western Divide as seen from the High Sierra Trail about 1 mile east of the Mehrten Creek crossing. From this place, the Kaweah Peaks Ridge is located behind the Great Western Divide. Only on the far left the Black Kaweah (13765') is visible and just to the right, barely visible, is the Red Kaweah with its two peaks. The remaining peaks belong to the Great Western Divide. From the left: Eagle Scout Peak (12040') appearing just a tiny bit higher than the Black Kaweah. The next three peaks are unnamed. In the center of the picture is Lippincott Mountain (12265') and the prominent peak on the right side is Mt. Eisen (12160').Theschenks 10:36, 12 February 2007 (UTC)

Safari Club

Au contraire! It is one of the last "real Oregon places", very old school :) In any case, the bar is still open but the nightclub and restaurant are a Chinese restaurant. The window containing the taxidemery specimens (including the claimed world record tiger bagged in India in 1967) are still there. Certainly it has the air of a ruin. Article Licensing

Hi, I've started a drive to get users to multi-license all of their contributions that they've made to either (1) all U.S. state, county, and city articles or (2) all articles, using the Creative Commons Attribution-Share Alike (CC-by-sa) v1.0 and v2.0 Licenses or into the public domain if they prefer. The CC-by-sa license is a true free documentation license that is similar to Wikipedia's license, the GFDL, but it allows other projects, such as WikiTravel, to use our articles. Since you are among the top 1000 Wikipedians by edits, I was wondering if you would be willing to multi-license all of your contributions or at minimum those on the geographic articles. Over 90% of people asked have agreed. For More Information:

To allow us to track those users who muli-license their contributions, many users copy and paste the "{{DualLicenseWithCC-BySA-Dual}}" template into their user page, but there are other options at Template messages/User namespace. The following examples could also copied and pasted into your user page:

Oppenheimer photo

There's no way you would have known, don't worry about it. LANL didn't label its source at all and unless I knew otherwise I would too have assumed it was a Los Alamos-owned picture. I only knew it wasn't because I once tried to secure rights for it a long time ago for a project I was working on and realized that it was a wire-press photo and thus owned by Corbis, who charges extortive licensing fees on historical photographs of that sort. You asked: What is the significance of Dzikie Pola to this article? And Winnetou lives underneath Karl May. Let me reply and explain why I insist they should be there: Dzikie Pola form a kind of 'Wild East' of the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth, and so are an interesting 'see also', mostly unknown to English reader (who have likely never heard of PLC either, so no suprise here). As for Winnetou, he is more widely known then Karol May. Crystal power/healing

Hi Dino; Crystal healing is one type of crystal power, and crystal power was two sentences long before the merge. Nothing is gained by having separate articles (now they're just duplicates of each other); I'll make a sub heading called "Crystal healing" in the crystal power article. Hello / Apology for detailed encounter with a "skeptic"

You say we have similar goals ? The reason I may be a little testy is that the skeptics I and others have ran into were abusive, even offensive. I know you are not that kind at all. One I ran into told me to," Shut that fucking shit the fucking hell up or they'll lock your fucking ass up in a damn loony bin. I don't want to hear that damn shit." In a UFO incident I came accross, a commercial pilot was asked to look at a UFO, he said that,"We don't report that shit. Good way to lose my damn job." Why are people like that ? I too am skeptical of certain matters as well, incl. psychics. I grew up with the "Seeing is believing" family value myself. As stated, I know you're not the kind to go out and insult people at all. I have been caught between skeptics and believers. I have yet to see a psychic, other than what has been advertised in the media, such as "Let Sister Valdees cure your LOVE problems." or "Let White Witch Sistro cure your money problems." I've seen UFOs myself, encountered aliens, along with trigger happy neighbors myself, been around ghosts, incl. one that was a pipe smoker. We (my family) verified who the pipe smoking ghost was. I have yet to see a chupacabra, a Bigfoot (Did have a smelly encounter, but did not see a bigfoot.), vampire, a angel, a demon, other strange matter. I did investigate the famous and not so famous paranormal matters, when NOT hunting for gold, meteorites, fossils, other precious metals. I did not mean to offend you at all, and I'm humbly apologising if I have done so. I have had some really bad experiences with both skeptics and believers. One of the former threatened me, while one of the latter reported that IF there is alien contact, the planet will erupt into rebellion and pointed out the existence of private armies a.k.a. thunder eggs

Hey, Just to say hi, thanks for all the articles and everything else on wikipedia. I added a space to "thunder egg" on the wiki page for them, as I had tried to do a search for "thunder egg" and didn't come up with anything, then googled it, and found "thunderegg". As I'm not a guru at wikipedia, the space worked. I'm sure there's a better way, but at least now it can be found by searching with or without a space in between.

Edgar Cayce

Some kid administrator (he's 16 years old) added the Dr. Little reference; I made sure that Little was Cayce-connected. This is a problem I had with certain people for a long time. They're one-sided; they won't do any serious research beyond their own b.s.; they just have to trust the word of a psychic when this same psychic couldn't even pull the winning lotto number out of a hat, much less any psychic. Dino, thanks so much for your kind and thoughtful response! No worries on the quick editing, there's no way you could have known about that ArbCom decision.. I'm with ya, man. It's a perplexing question as to why, with so little hard evidence, people still believe in spirits, psychic powers, mediums, mind-readers and the like... I think it's the desire to believe there's something more than what they can see and feel, perhaps to hold off the fear of dying and being no more...just ending.
It can be a scary thing, that big unknown awaiting us...and, as with all the unknowns, and how mankind has handled them (Zeus throwing lightning bolts, Thor the thundergod making thunder, fear of black cats crossing paths...), they handle that fear of the unknown by creating or believing in worlds beyond this world. And in those worlds...psychics exist.... I dunno. I respect all viewpoints..and just try to be neutral and learn what I can.

Psychic category

Hi dino,

I've been reading your conversation with Dreadstar. You're right about the dreadful stuff that goes on- religion seems to be a holdover from our hunter-gatherer past when tribal cohesion was highly adaptive, and thinking for one's self was death. But anyway, I think it is better to just call things what they are culturally called, and then make sure that we explain the controversy in the articles, such as Psychic. Otherwise what it sounds like is that we are sneering right off the bat, and that means the articles simply can't be neutral. See this also.

You were a bit confusing on the licensing with this image. In the description you released under the GDFL while the tag was releasing the image into the public domain. I changed the tag to the more restrictive of the two (GDFL). If you really did intend to release into the public domain, you might want to change your description (and change the tag back). Wikipedia gets thousands of images uploaded every day, and in order to verify that the images can be legally used on Wikipedia, the source and copyright status must be indicated. Images need to have an image tag applied to the image description page indicating the copyright status of the image. This uniform and easy-to-understand method of indicating the license status allows potential re-users of the images to know what they are allowed to do with the images.

Fair use rationale for Image:Lake_chagan.jpg

Thanks for uploading or contributing to Image:Lake_chagan.jpg. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in Wikipedia articles constitutes fair use. Hello. I noticed that your addition [2] to the Eighth Wonder of the World article is unsourced. In order to keep the article from spiraling out of control with WP:OR, several of us have it on our watchlists and generally trim un-sourced additions on sight. Derivative

Thank you for the new Image:Graph of sliding derivative line.gif. I have two requests. First, would it be possible to post the image source code on the image page, it is in the spirit of Wikipedia and may help other people understand how you made the image. Moved image

Crucifixion eclipse

You should consider editing your recent contribution to Crucifixion eclipse. An examination of the literature about New England's Dark Day indicates it was attributed to obscurration by clouds of smoke and/or dust. Various publications have not associated it with solar eclipses. The variety of documents examined by F. R. Stephenson about the June 3, 1239 darkness explicitly refer to the darkening of the solar disk in a manner not attributable to obscurration by clouds. Your contribution to this would be appropriate if it had cited references that had described the darkening of the solar disk. Speedy deletion of Image:Cockaigne small.jpg

A tag has been placed on Image:Cockaigne small.jpg requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. Reversing Gehenna Edit?

Why have you reverse my edit of the count of the number of times Gehenna is referred to in the synoptic Gospels? This is not a matter up for dispute, even the source linked for the prior count of 12 lists 11 instances occuring in the synoptic Gospels. The additional reference occurs in the Epistle of James. If you would like to change it to reflect the 12 occurrences in the whole of the New Testament that is fine, but so long as it refers to the "synoptic Gospels" and on the lips of Jesus himself the count is 11. Hi Dino... Regarding the File:Three facts for trisecting angles.svg shown at right, the fact that should appear as a + b + c = 180° appears (at least on my computer) as a +  +  = 180°bc. MSU Interview

Dear Dino,


My name is Jonathan Obar user:Jaobar, I'm a professor in the College of Communication Arts and Sciences at Michigan State University and a Teaching Fellow with the Wikimedia Foundation's Education Program. This semester I've been running a little experiment at MSU, a class where we teach students about becoming Wikipedia administrators. Not a lot is known about your community, and our students (who are fascinated by wiki-culture by the way!) want to learn how you do what you do, and why you do it. A while back I proposed this idea (the class) to the community HERE, were it was met mainly with positive feedback. Anyhow, I'd like my students to speak with a few administrators to get a sense of admin experiences, training, motivations, likes, dislikes, etc. We were wondering if you'd be interested in speaking with one of our students.


So a few things about the interviews:

  • Interviews will last between 15 and 30 minutes.
  • Interviews can be conducted over skype (preferred), IRC or email. (You choose the form of communication based upon your comfort level, time, etc.)
  • All interviews will be completely anonymous, meaning that you (real name and/or pseudonym) will never be identified in any of our materials, unless you give the interviewer permission to do so.
  • All interviews will be completely voluntary. You are under no obligation to say yes to an interview, and can say no and stop or leave the interview at any time.
  • The entire interview process is being overseen by MSU's institutional review board (ethics review). This means that all questions have been approved by the university and all students have been trained how to conduct interviews ethically and properly.


Bottom line is that we really need your help, and would really appreciate the opportunity to speak with you. Opinion needed on a possible vandalism case

I need an opinion on a possible vandalism case. Here A sourced statement was deleted where WP:BLPCRIME was stated was an issue. This part was ok since a user was taking issue with a policy problem with the article. In fact I agreed that part of it did apply. At this point partly reverted and kept the part that didn't apply. That edit is shown here. This is the part that I take issue with. I put in a sourced statement which was deleted on multiple occasions within a span of several minutes and still claiming WP:BLPCRIME. This, this and this I perceived as vandalism. I added a sourced statement and used quotation marks showing that I'm not the one using it and I stated who is using it. I gave User:Ianmacm a level 1 vandalism template due to my perception that it was vandalism. I don't think there should be anymore issues related to WP:BLPCRIME.
