License tagging for Image:FCCSeal.png[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:FCCSeal.png. Wikipedia gets hundreds of images uploaded every day, and in order to verify that the images can be legally used on Wikipedia, the source and copyright status must be indicated. Images need to have an image tag applied to the image description page indicating the copyright status of the image. This uniform and easy-to-understand method of indicating the license status allows potential re-users of the images to know what they are allowed to do with the images.

Peoplandard[edit]

The article Peoplandard has been speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This was done because the article seemed to be about a person, group of people, band, club, company, or web content, but it did not indicate how or why the subject is notable, that is, why an article about that subject should be included in Wikipedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, articles that do not assert notability may be deleted at any time. Yup. Axlq is quite correct. The relevant guidline is WP:WEB. If it's met, then the article probably shouldn't be deleted. If it isn't, then it probably will be, it it hasn't been already --Bfigura (talk) 21:13, 1 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]
OK, I've read Wikipedia:Criteria for speedy deletion as I've written the first line. If you talk about reliability, maybe this site isn't enough. Do you think there is any site of web 2.0 which is really reliable?--Washio 21:33, 1 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]
The question isn't only is it reliable. It's is it notable? So if you can find reliable independent sources (ie, sources that meet WP:RS) which discuss the topic of the article, then that would be a step forward in proving notability. But in general, Web 2.0 sites can be notable, but they aren't considered reliable sources. (So, we can have an article about Slashdot if we can prove they're notable, but we can't cite Slashdot as a source). Does that make sense? PS: I'm moving this discussion to your talk page in case this page is deleted (which it probably will be shortly, since it's a talk page for a non-existent article). This is the second issue of WikiProject Germany's newsletter. The newsletter is intended to help all members of the project to keep up with new developments and coordinate new collaborative efforts. If you think anything should be featured in the next issue, please leave a note at the Newsdesk

Other areas where you can help
  • Assessment requests: Some open Requests for assessment need to be answered. To see new assessment requests as they come in, you can watchlist the assessment page.
  • More task forces and subprojects: As this WikiProject covers a very large topic area, it is helpful to add more task forces that focus on specific aspects of Germany. Currently, we have a Mainz task force, a Munich subproject and some joint task forces with other WikiProjects. Any project member is invited to start a new task force. Suggestions for possible topics:
    • Transportation in Germany
    • German politics (the political system of Germany and the biographies of its politicians)
    • German Democratic Republic

Be creative! If you have an idea, just suggest it on the project talk page (don't forget to watchlist it).

  • Cities and municipalities task force

The task force dedicated to creating and improving articles on all German cities and municipalities is happy to announce that there are now (at least) stub articles for all municipalities of Germany. Now the task force is looking for help in fleshing these out a little bit. The current phase of activity for the task force is to copy in infoboxes from the articles in German Wikipedia. If you want to help, even just for a few articles, look at the instructions and links here

  • Article Assessment:

There are now way over 26.000 articles tagged as part of our Wikiproject and many still need either an importance or a quality assessment. Also there are many more out there that do need to be tagged like approx 8000 municipalities. Image:Ratanakiri topography.svg[edit]

Thanks for your help making this image! One question: how did you decide what the colors would be? Calliopejen1 (talk) 12:26, 16 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

The darker colors indicate the higher altitude. As reference, I used terrain maps at maps.google.com. However, I did neither copy nor automatically traced the map, but redrew exclusively the topographical information. Comparing to the map of cambodia available at Cambodia journey/Places To Go, the yellow area is up to about 150 m, the light green area up to about 200m and the dark green part up to about 600m above the sea level. The colors don't meet the Wikimedia standard yet and therefore you could change it.--Demoeconomist (talk) 16:37, 17 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Europe 10,000 Challenge invite[edit]

Hi. The Wikipedia:WikiProject Europe/The 10,000 Challenge has recently started, based on the UK/Ireland Wikipedia:The 10,000 Challenge. The idea is not to record every minor edit, but to create a momentum to motivate editors to produce good content improvements and creations and inspire people to work on more countries than they might otherwise work on. There's also the possibility of establishing smaller country or regional challenges for places like Germany, Italy, the Benelux countries, Iberian Peninsula, Romania, Slovenia etc, much like Wikipedia:The 1000 Challenge (Nordic). For this to really work we need diversity and exciting content and editors from a broad range of countries regularly contributing. If you would like to see masses of articles being improved for Europe and your specialist country like Wikipedia:WikiProject Africa/The Africa Destubathon, sign up today and once the challenge starts a contest can be organized. This is a way we can target every country of Europe, and steadily vastly improve the encyclopedia. We need numbers to make this work so consider signing up as a participant and also sign under any country sub challenge on the page that you might contribute to!
