Thank you[edit]

Hey DT, thank you for the bears and for the reminder of my 500-day anniversary, which I wouldn't have known about otherwise. It was very much appreciated. Cheers, SlimVirgin (talk) 04:29, 30 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Wiki is free[edit]

Hi DT,

You don't need to eavesdrop on our conversation. If I had anything personal to say, I would have used E-mail. Anything on wikipedia is free for all to see and discuss. BTW do you think its worth posting in Indian Notice-board.

I had one more doubt. In the IIT article, at a lot of places I am requiring citations from the same source. What is the best way to do this?

-Ambuj Saxena (talk) 08:26, 30 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Haha. Yeah, always feel free to post such things on Indian Notice-board. It's meant for things like these. For sources in the IIT article, if you are convinced that there's no reason the source will be biased, go ahead and use it as much as you want. Meanwhile, keep trying to find more sources, since it's always better to work from a broad base of sources. deeptrivia (talk) 12:59, 30 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]
I meant something else. I wanted to say that I have included details from same source at various places in the article. Since we are expected to cite our sources wherever necessary, should I site the same reference repeatedly or is there an alternative. -Ambuj Saxena (talk) 13:50, 30 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Let me also call you DT - hi DT ! --Bhadani 15:26, 30 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Hi DT, see what I have created! Wages of wasting your creativity on the free-license WP!! Regards, ImpuMozhi 03:38, 3 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Point taken...and I see you have the same problem on this talk-page as I have on mine -- two templates together don't allow for "float". Do you understand what I mean? Can you help? Regards, ImpuMozhi 05:11, 3 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]
You have two templates on your talk-page, so the ToC box (or any other text) will not float to the top. They will float up one template, but not two. If you use one template, that problem is not there, and you will not have white space on the top. I was wondering if there is any way this problem can be solved. Thanks[edit]

Thanks for your support ji, it means a lot to me. there is far too little goodwill here, but I am not sure if it is worth it if every attemot I make to salvage a new excited goodwilled user is countered my malicious people. A good exmaple is [[1] -- a highly talented person comes here and wants to contribute, and lets us in on a burgeoning article that he has in mind. He makes a good start, and I try to mentor him and give him advice for improvement. Never mind that I am 15 and he is probably 50. I try. On thos rare occasion, I defend hom successfully and the article stays, but the user leaves. Leaving the article in a pitiful state. An expert in his field leaves due to rudeness and hostility to his actions of being bold which we advised him to do, so what do we do now? Linux is quite an important topic in IT these days, and his distro may have had many unique qualities that we will never know of since he is now gone.

I realize this is human nature, but someone new either needs to be told the rules, and who gets to break which ones or needs to be told that until you have over a thousand edits, you are just not "in". That's the way it seems to me. I was off of school a lot of this month so had a lot of time on my hands. I do not see it as being worth it in the future. I wil check my messages, but if you see any of my main topics that interest you, please feel free to take them on. In particular, I would like to see Prostitution in India, Adela Florence Nicholson and Satyananda Stokes I would like to see worked on. Those were some of my main interests when I came here, but I kind of got addicted along the way. I am not sure I have the expertise or tolerance to continue for now. Maybe later. Thanks again. RfA Results and Thanks[edit]

Deeptrivia/Archive10, thank you for supporting me in my recent RfA. Although it did not succeed as no consensus was declared (final: 65/29/7), I know that there is always an opportunity to request adminship again. If and when that day comes, I hope you will once again support me. If at any time I make any mistakes or if you would like to comment on my contributions to Wikipedia, you are more than welcome to do so. Regardless of your religious, cultural, and personal beliefs, I pray that whatever and whoever motivates you in life continues to guide you on the most righteous path.

Zakir Naik[edit]

Dear DT, thanks for your note re this article. There only seems to be one anon editor, and I suspect that he is "Monotheist" just forgetting to log in. So semi-protection would just force him to log in. He and Wallah96 would then have enough reverts to keep the article permanently in a Naik-worshipping state. What the article really needs is more sensible editors, Muslim or non-Muslim. An educated Muslim would NOT be happy with many of the things that Naik says. He makes Islam look bad the way Jack Chick makes Christians look bad. I'm trying to think of a Buddhist example, and failing, but I'm sure there's one to be had. IIT article[edit]

Hi DT,

I have put up Peer Review request for IIT article but got very few reviews. Is the article bad or there are other reasons? -Ambuj Saxena (talk) 16:44, 31 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Request at the notice board has been made, but nobody responded. It was earlier sent to FA review by an anonymous IP. It was a joke and everybody gave a stern "no". I will anyway have to wait for one month before nominating it again as otherwise people will take it as bad manners. -Ambuj Saxena (talk) 17:03, 31 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Sanskrit from French Wiki[edit]

Bonjour Deeptrivia! Sanskrit is a FA on the French Wiki and the English one is close to becoming one. Can you read through the French article and find out if there is any worthwhile information to translate because generally FA in other languages are not up to the same standard as here. It would be a great help! Thanks --GizzaChat © 02:44, 2 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

al-Karkhi[edit]

Can you please have a look at this: al-Karkhi. The user ManiF, is deleting information from the main article that point to his arab origin and that is backed by authoritive sources. Thank You. Jidan 06:01, 4 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

al-Karaji is a Persian scientist from Karaj, situated 20 km west of Tehran. User:Jidan is trying to make him an Arab by quoting obscure Arab or online sources [2], while the majority of encyclopedias refer to him as Persian, born in Karaj, Persia as his name suggests. --ManiF 06:10, 4 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, I've replied on my talk page: Sukh | ਸੁਖ | Talk 19:02, 4 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Is it time yet?[edit]

Hi DT,

To me now, the article on IIT seems complete and perfect. But that's the way children appear to the mothers(wink). Do you think it will be a serious candidate for FA? Or more improvements are needed? -Ambuj Saxena (talk) 16:47, 5 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I think you have a valid point there. My end-sems start on 24th April, so I will be not be on wikipedia starting 16th. I will be coming back only after 9th May (considering I can keep myself away; but I can't make any commitments as of now). This means that either we start the FAC process now (and end it before 16th) or wait another month. I will have a look at the lead section again. Thanks for your response. -Ambuj Saxena (talk) 05:50, 6 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Per Nichalp's request, I have decided to wait for some more time before nominating it. Now, it will go for FAC only in May. -Ambuj Saxena (talk) 05:59, 7 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]
The content material isn't too bad. But to make it featured on the English wikipedia it needs to have pristine spelling and grammar. Needs quite a bit of copyediting yet to achieve native-like english grammar. Ansell 08:41, 7 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Valley of the Saints[edit]

Thanks for the excellent work on Valley of Saints. I very much appreciate it. I've become too frustrated to be an active editor anymore, but I do check in from time to time. After getting very depressed at how Aurangzeb has become one of the most POV articles in WP, I happened to check in Ziyaret for a poor man's web Haj, and saw the new reference for the first time. Also enjoyed your external links, which I had not seen before. I built a redirect from Valley of the Saints.

I wonder if there is a different name for the saint there whose dargah I have visited often. I know him as 'Katar Husseini'. A friend of mine is a Sufi of his lineage. As with most names in the area, spelling accuracy is difficult.

I very much appreciate and envy your enthusiasm and dedication.--Nemonoman 14:57, 8 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

You would love this...[edit]

Hi,

Have a look at this. Just start reading from the education section onwards. This guy has just copied the text from IIT's article and put it up on NIT's article by replacing IIT by NIT. At some places, he has even forgotton to replace the NIT by IIT. I couldn't stop laughing for full two minutes after seeing this. Even more so because 90% of that text was written by me for the IIT article.

VandalProof 1.1 is Now Available For Download[edit]

Happy Easter to all of you, and I hope that this version may fix your current problems and perhaps provide you with a few useful new tools. You can download version 1.1 at User:AmiDaniel/VandalProof. Let me warn you, however, to please be extremely careful when using the new Rollback All Contributions feature, as, aside from the excessive server lag it would cause if everyone began using it at once, it could seriously aggitate several editors to have their contributions reverted. If you would like to experiment with it, though, I'd be more than happy to use my many sockpuppets to create some "vandalism" for you to revert. If you have any problems downloading, installing, or otherwise, please tell me about them at User:AmiDaniel/VP/Bugs and I will do my best to help you. Thanks. Iranian Azerbaijan[edit]

Hi there,

I just wanted to let you know that user, khoikhoi (MOD) keeps including the very offensive term, "south azerbaijan" on the Iranian Azerbaijan page. We should not let him post this propoganda and false information. That term has no place in an encycolpedia article. It is not relevent to the content. What a few seperatists call that region should not be shown here. If we dont stop this, people will start including the "a#abian gulf" as an alternate name on the Persian gulf page.

Checkin in[edit]

Hi, checking in to see how you are doing a while after your perhaps stressful experience on RfA. I see you're officially on Wikibreak, so take care of what you need to and return ready to go. Or as a true addict, just keep up the good work. - Taxman Talk 04:25, 29 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I keep on noticing your contributions here and there and everytime feel that you have returned from the break, only to find that they were one-off edits made by you (A clear sign that you can't forget wikipedia easily). Anyway, do come back soon. -Ambuj Saxena (talk) 05:00, 29 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Image of Rumi[edit]

Hello Deeptrivia-- I have listed an image of yours for deletion: the one of Rumi with a spirit of some sort hovering over him. I suppose the spirit is meant to depict God. As you know, in Islam images of God are "not done". There are some other pictures of Rumi on his page by the same artist, all of which are very nice and helpful; I just think it would be better if this particular one was left out. With kind regards, Jacob 13:30, 2 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Portal:India/Selected article removal candidates[edit]

Hi! The template for Portal:India/Selected article removal candidates was not made, and I tried to make it. However, the result Template:Pisarc is not ok. It is not functioning perfectly as can be seen in the talk pages where this has been put, for example, Talk:Raja Ravi Varma and Talk:Cheese. See that the template shows the name of the article once again at the end! I have already contacted Nichalp (talk · contribs) in this regard. You can also help to resolve this technical matter.

Many articles in Portal:India/Selected articles deserve to be delisted as they are either not india related or do not meet the criteria. It seems from the list as if many articles were NOT chosen by going through the prescribed procedure, rather chosen somewhat indiscriminately. Please see. Regards.--Dwaipayan (talk) 10:54, 4 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]
