License tagging for Image:Liverpool St Nicholas.jpg[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:Liverpool St Nicholas.jpg. Wikipedia gets hundreds of images uploaded every day, and in order to verify that the images can be legally used on Wikipedia, the source and copyright status must be indicated. Images need to have an image tag applied to the image description page indicating the copyright status of the image. This uniform and easy-to-understand method of indicating the license status allows potential re-users of the images to know what they are allowed to do with the images.

For more information on using images, see the following pages:

Unfortunately, advertising is not a criteria for speedy deletion. Please take a moment to review WP:CSD. IceKarma 02:39, 27 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

You can:
 • Try to write a non-advertisement NPOV article;
 • Take it to WP:PROD;
 • Take it to WP:AfD.

When using template tags on talk pages, don't forget to substitute with text by adding subst: to the template tag. For example, use instead of test. This reduces server load and prevents accidental blanking of the template. - CobaltBlueTony 18:13, 28 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Speedy deletion vs AfD vs Prod[edit]

Hi David!

There's probably some useful things you might like to know about deletion on Wikipedia, as you are currently flooding AfD with dozens of articles best dealt with in other ways.

Wikipedia has three levels of delete process.

 1. For certain articles that are obviously and clearly not for Wikipedia, there's Speedy Deletion. If you look at WP:CSD, you'll find a list of reasons articles can be speedily deleted by an admin. If you're sure an article fits one of those reasons, put one of the db tags on it and it goes into a category that admins can see. It will generally be deleted in a few minutes.
 2. For articles that are obviously and clearly not for Wikipedia but don't fit with one of the Speedy Delete criteria, there's PROD. This is a slow-motion speedy delete that gives others the chance to object, clean the article up or agree. See WP:PROD for details of how to PROD an article.
 3. For everything else, there's the slow, time-consuming and devisive AfD process. Use that if the other two aren't appropriate.

As long as you use good judgement and don't tag articles for a speedy delete that don't fit the criteria, and keep your cool if an author dePRODs an article without giving a reason, you'll find these are much better ways of proceeding.

Hope this helps. ЯEDVERS 19:49, 29 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Image:David Humphreys.jpg[edit]

I recognize that you put substantial creative work into making this image, but I am deleting this image for a number of reasons:

 1. The use of the Nike logo in this context is in the form of parody. While such use is allowed, it is allowed only under terms of fair use. Wikipedia policy prohibits the use of fair use images outside of the main article namespace. Since this image would never be used in the main article namespace, its presence here is not permissible under our policies. Please see Wikipedia:Fair use criteria for further information on this, in particular item #9.
 2. The image of Cristiano Ronaldo as a portion of this image is unsourced and its copyright status is unclear.
 3. The image of the shirtless person as a portion of this image is unsourced and its copyright status is unclear.

While the second and third items are not direct reasons to speedy delete an image, the first reason is. If you can provide a source for items 2 and 3 with a verifiable free use copyright license, and remove the Nike logo from the image, you are welcome to re-upload the image. If you have questions about this, please feel free to ask. Thanks, --Durin 14:19, 7 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

using templates[edit]

I've been stub-sorting and I noticed a number of things that look like this:

 1. <div class="messagebox cleanup">Some of the information in this {} has not been verified and might not be reliable. It should be checked for inaccuracies and modified as needed, citing sources.</div>
 2. <div class="notice metadata" id="stub">This article is a stub. You can help Wikipedia by <span class="plainlinks">[ expanding it]</span>. </div>
 3. <div class="messagebox cleanup metadata"> This article belongs in one or more categories. Please categorize this article to list it with similar topics.</div>

I checked your contributions and I noticed that you've adding these things to a number of articles. I don't know if you know this, but instead of copying the code for a template, you can just type the template name within curly braces. Using the above as examples, the correct usage would be:

 1. verify
 2. stub
 3. uncat

Tell me about it: one user came to my talk page just to remove an image, which was fair enough as you're not supposed to use fair use images on your user page, but the user just removed it with a blunt edit summary whilst the guidelines allowed for a polite request to remove it. Explaining Northumbria (et al)[edit]

I am dubious as to the necessity of explaining where Northumbria is/was, not least because if it's done once it should be done everywhere, and that is a huge amount of work to little end. It's not simply kings of Northumbria, no doubt the same would need to be done for all Anglo-Saxon kings, and (I am quite sure) early Irish ones, the Pictish ones, the Dál Riata ones (which currently contain the POV and inaccurate "modern western Scotland" as a pointer) and many British and Welsh ones. ("Cadwallon ap Cadfan (died 634[1]) was the King of Gwynedd ..."; "Flann Sinna ... was the king of Mide ..."; and so on). Angus McLellan (Talk) 17:23, 21 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Merging David L Cook and David Cook[edit]

David, thank you for your request to merge these two articles. Unfortunatley we do not know who wrote the first one David Cook (Musician) and it contains a great deal of information to us that is really uncalled for in this venue. If you could please help us to fix this or even get rid of the other article we would appreciate it. We are not Wiki savy so our office is not sure as to how to do these edits without causing more of a problem. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Pa-Bocce[edit]

Why do you insist on this article being removed. I did not invent the game, I do not know who did or when, but I do know alot of people at my school play and enjoy it. Some of us are planning a tournament amonst the students to raise money for the various charities it supports. I agree it is a poor article and needs work, perhaps you could help me improve it rather than remove it. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 74.65.39.243 (talkcontribs) 03:42, 7 August 2006
My response posted on 74.65.39.243's talk page ...

I don't insist that this article is removed, if you check the page history, you will find that it is a different user who added the "proposed deletion" tag. I added the tag that proposes merging into the Bocce article. I have reverted your removal of the "proposed deletion" tag, because simply deleting the tag is not the correct way to do things. DavidHumphreysSPEAK TO MEABOUTTHE THINGS I MESSED UP02:57, 7 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I apoligize for my mistake about the deletion tag. And I would like to know why what I did is "not the way to do things." The tag states "You may remove this message if you improve the article, or if you otherwise object to deletion of the article for any reason. To avoid confusion, it helps to explain why you object to the deletion, either in the edit summary or on the talk page." I otherwise object to the deletion and stated why on the talk page. If I am mistaken I am sorry, I am new to Wikipedia and would like to know what I can do to help preserve the article. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 74.65.39.243 (talkcontribs) 04:07, 7 August 2006

No problems about the misunderstanding :) The "way to do it" is to improve the article first, in this particular case, it would be to slightly expand the article, (eg, giving examples of where it is played etc etc) and by providing references (eg, links to websites that mention it, or notes of newspaper articles written about it etc) DavidHumphreysSPEAK TO MEABOUTTHE THINGS I MESSED UP03:14, 7 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Well the way I understand it, deleted articles cannot be recreated for some time. Is there anyway I can volentaraly remove the article while I conduct research and repost it when I can create a better article? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 74.65.39.243 (talkcontribs)

See this page, it's a good place to start. And David Humphreys, if any user contests a prod, even the original author, you shouldn't re-insert the prod. Instead, contested prods should be taken to AFD. Isopropyl 04:06, 7 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Fair use rationale for Image:Windowbs1949.jpg[edit]

Thanks for uploading or contributing to Image:Windowbs1949.jpg. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is not a suitable explanation or rationale as to why each specific use in Wikipedia constitutes fair use. Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Disputed fair use rationale for Image:45 Dip The Acid Lounge.jpg}[edit]

Thank you for uploading Image:45 Dip The Acid Lounge.jpg. However, there is a concern that the rationale provided for using this image under "fair use" may not meet the criteria required by Wikipedia:Non-free content. This can be corrected by going to the image description page and add or clarify the reason why the image qualifies for fair use. In particular, for each page the image is used on, the image must have an explanation linking to that page which explains why it needs to be used on that page. Can you please check:

 • That there is a non-free use rationale on the image's escription page for each article the image is used in.
 • That every article it is used on is linked to from its description page.

Please be aware that a fair use rationale is not the same as an image copyright tag; descriptions for images used under the fair use policy require both a copyright tag and a fair use rationale.

If it is determined that the image does not qualify under fair use, it might be deleted by adminstrator within a few days in accordance with our criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions, please ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thank you. NOTE: once you correct this, please remove the tag from the image's page. Image copyright problem with Image:Cain's Brewery, Liverpool, UK.jpg[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:Cain's Brewery, Liverpool, UK.jpg. The image has been identified as not specifying the copyright status of the image, which is required by Wikipedia's policy on images. Even if you created the image yourself, you still need to release it so Wikipedia can use it. If you don't indicate the copyright status of the image on the image's description page, using an appropriate copyright tag, it may be deleted some time in the next seven days. If you made this image yourself, you can use copyright tags like PD-self (to release all rights), CC-by-sa-3.0 (to require that you be credited), or any tag here - just go to the image, click edit, and add one of those. If you have uploaded other images, please verify that you have provided copyright information for them as well.

For more information on using images, see the following pages:

This is an automated notice by STBotI. For assistance on the image use policy, see Wikipedia:Media copyright questions. NOTE: once you correct this, please remove the tag from the image's page. STBotI (talk) 19:44, 18 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Proposed deletion of Tilllate[edit]

A proposed deletion template has been added to the article Tilllate, suggesting that it be deleted according to the proposed deletion process. All contributions are appreciated, but this article may not satisfy Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and the deletion notice should explain why (see also "What Wikipedia is not" and Wikipedia's deletion policy). You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the dated prod notice, but please explain why you disagree with the proposed deletion in your edit summary or on its talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised because even though removing the deletion notice will prevent deletion through the proposed deletion process, the article may still be deleted if it matches any of the speedy deletion criteria or it can be sent to Articles for Deletion, where it may be deleted if consensus to delete is reached. Orphaned non-free media (File:For The Love Of It.jpg)[edit]

Thanks for uploading File:For The Love Of It.jpg. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'file' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "File" from the dropdown box. Note that all non-free media not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. Hazard-Bot (talk) 04:08, 8 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Notification of automated file description generation[edit]

Your upload of File:Catherine Street Liverpool.JPG or contribution to its description is noted, and thanks (even if belatedly) for your contribution. In order to help make better use of the media, an attempt has been made by an automated process to identify and add certain information to the media's description page.

This notification is placed on your talk page because a bot has identified you either as the uploader of the file, or as a contributor to its metadata. It would be appreciated if you could carefully review the information the bot added. To opt out of these notifications, please follow the instructions here. Thanks!
