Ages and ages ago i said i was going to give you a link to an interview which suggested notobility but i think it was never published. I still think the band is notable for inclusion on wikipedia, and i think there is webpages that will show this. They have toured in Europe and have recorded and album in Baltimore with a major recording studio and are due to play south by southwest festival, anyway these are some links.[1], [2](lenghthy interview), [3] Andrew22k (talk) 23:26, 3 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Speedy deletion of Bolsover local elections[edit]

Thank you for experimenting with Wikipedia. Your test worked, and the page that you created has been or soon will be deleted. Please use the sandbox for any other tests you want to do. Take a look at the welcome page if you would like to learn more about contributing to our encyclopedia.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}} to the top of the page that has been nominated for deletion (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on the talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the page meets the criterion it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the page that would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Lastly, please note that if the page does get deleted, you can contact one of these admins to request that they userfy the page or have a copy emailed to you. Regarding recent speedy deletions[edit]

Hi, I noticed that you deleted Jonathan ieslin and Michael lulko per G10. I had tagged them A7 and G3. Would you consider my tags erroneous, or just cases where the articles met multiple criteria? If the latter, do you feel that G10 should take precedence over A7 even if the BLP is not entirely negative? Thanks in advance. decltype (talk) 09:10, 16 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

SIEF[edit]

Hi

thanks for getting back to me. I suppose the second deletion was for the same reason as the first? (I've only today seen your response of mid-February...) What constitutes a reliable secondary source? Does it have to be a web link, or will references to some old-fashioned print sources suffice? As for web links, there is one to the SIEF homepage, which should serve to establish the bona fides of the association.

A couple more questions, while I'm here ...

It seems from my experience this far that unless one launches an entire edifice with cross-links to other topics, there is a risk that the entry will jo-jo up and down for some time, especially if - as in my case - the author only has time to check it every few days or sometimes even weeks. Would you recommend that we design a complex entry in its entirety first and then up-load it (in the hope it might survive)?

Also, a minor point: How do I set the name of the organisation in caps (SIEF, rather than Sief as at present)?

Thanks for our help. --Derbaer (talk) 15:34, 16 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Greetings. I am a member of the Bot Approvals Group, and I am very interested in making sure that bots only run with community approval, in ways that are positive to Wikipedia. I read your thoughtful oppose !vote at the RFC, and I wanted to let you know about some safeguards that I can assure you would be in place, should this bot be approved.

First of all, I am adamant that no one should get "jumped on" for adding a link to the exclusion list. I'll be watching the ensuing discussion carefully, and if someone starts to harass people who make good-faith additions to the exclusion list, even when there is disagreement, I won't put up with that. There's been enough bad feeling generated already over this relatively minor issue, and civility is going to be required. I also wanted to let you know that if someone adds {{nobots}} to an article, this bot will not edit it. That could be a way to exclude an article without using the date exclusion list. Also, this bot would not be approved to run multiple times, obviating any revert wars. If a human and a bot disagree about formatting issues, the human is always right. (If a human and a human disagree later, that's a separate issue.) So no one should be made to feel that this (or any) bot's edits are certified as more valid than a person's individual choice in an article.

I don't know if this changes your mind about the bot idea, but either way, I just wanted to reassure you about what will or will not happen if this bot is ever approved. All the best, – Quadell (talk) 20:20, 29 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

...for the quick work. IronDuke 17:16, 18 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Hi. I see you removed a speedy tag on this article. Just a few points:

  • It was created by user:Satoru which suggests to me it is a self published article.
  • The only ref is about company that he started which had 2 employees and went out of business 8 years ago.
  • I googled latino impact magazine [5] and this is all the came up and 100 Latinos on the move [6]

I'm still thinking that notability hasn't been asserted and there may be other issues but I'm open to interpretation GainLine 19:16, 18 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

The article quite probably fails the notability guidelines, however all that is required to avoid being speedy deleted is an assertion of importance or significance. The claim to being one of "100 latinos on the move" is a claim to significance and the list is almost certainly not a hoax[7]. A nomination for proposed deletion (or AFD if necessary) would be the correct forum for deleting the article which I agree is almost certainly not notable and the above claim would certainly not be enough to avoid deletion there. Davewild (talk) 19:29, 18 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks. Didnt think it was hoax just clutching at straws on notability. I'll prod it but will probably have to go to AFD. Cheers for the input GainLine 19:31, 18 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you! I wonder if User:TankTrivia needs a word in his or her shell-like about correct use of speedy deletion. It's worrying that he/she thought it a suitable candidate. Jasper33 (talk) 11:54, 19 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

recently created[edit]

Hi, Davewild. Thanks for the clarification in the summary of this edit. I hadn't noticed, until today, that that criterion could only be applied to recently crated redirects. I don't understand, though, why does the recency make a difference here. Could you briefly explain me that? Thanks, Waldir talk 22:30, 19 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

There was a recent discussion of this criteria on the policy page that probably explains it better than I could - Wikipedia talk:Criteria for speedy deletion/Archive 36#R3 - why only recent?. Basically from my reading the rationale was that people felt that older redirects should go through RFD as speedy should be kept to limited cases, although there were others who felt the wording should be removed. Davewild (talk) 07:43, 20 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks, reading that was rather enlightening. Lots of good points presented there. Especially Rossami's "offline links" argument got me thinking. And even though they tend to be more careful in print media, the linkrot argument is also worthwile. Still, I don't think this is the case, so I'll take that specific redirect to RfD. Cheers, Waldir talk 12:10, 20 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

You have removed the speedy tag on Leila Khatami article. Do you know something about her that makes her special? (If so, let other people know) I am an Iranian. Even in Iran nobody knows her. (Except her family!!!) The Article is a propaganda and should be removed as soon as possible. Bardia666 (talk) 13:38, 20 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I removed the speedy tag because speedy deletion is only for the most obvious and blatant cases. This article had had a speedy tag removed before back in 2007 by another administrator who felt there was an assertion of importance. Also as daughter of a former president and a research mathematician there is a possibility that there could be coverage to meet the notability guideline and they are enough of an assertion of significance that I feel it should go to AFD if the article is going to be deleted. You are welcome to nominate the article at Wikipedia:Articles for Deletion if you feel the article should be deleted. Davewild (talk) 15:05, 20 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

You have removed the speedy tag on Jim Howard, Jr. article. Is there something significant about this living person that makes this autobiography wiki worthy? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 72.189.134.114 (talkcontribs)

There was enough in the article to just about qualify as an assertion of significance in my view. Speedy deletion is only for the most blatant cases and combined with a google search that showed there might be some coverage in reliable sources gave me the view that the article should go through Wikipedia:Articles for Deletion if it should be deleted. I note another admin has come to the same conclusion as well. If you feel it should be deleted you are welcome to nominate it for AFD. Davewild (talk) 06:58, 22 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Deletion of Paola Rey (pornographic actress)[edit]

I was just reviewing articles tagged for speedy deletion, and I reached a different conclusion from you about Paola Rey (pornographic actress). WP:G12 says: "[...] where there is no non-infringing content on the page worth saving." That article had an infobox, references, and categories. That said, It didn't look like the article meets WP:PORNSTAR, so I don't feel too strongly about it. — Sebastian 07:10, 24 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

You are quite right my mistake, I have restored the article and removed the copyviolating material. Davewild (talk) 07:14, 24 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Cool, thanks! That's what I was trying to do, when we got an edit conflict. — Sebastian 07:23, 24 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

West Lancashire Elections 2008[edit]

Thanks for the link. But sadly that does not help me as it does not show the results for North Meols parish council for some reason (it shows the results for all the other parish councils but not North Meols, werid). Which is what I really want. Thanks for you help though. 93gregsonl2 (talk) 22:02, 11 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

But it does not matter as I will use the 2007 results for North Meols. 93gregsonl2 (talk) 22:05, 11 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

IP vandalism[edit]

Hi. Some IPs have deleted the ressorced parts of the article Taraneh Javanbakht. Please protect this article against the IP vandalism. thank you for your consideration. Zohairani (talk) 21:19, 14 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, semi-protection is only used on pages which are subject to "heavy and continued vandalism". Considering there has only been one edit by an unregistered user since August, which was not vandalism but a misunderstanding of the policy over foreign languages sources, I cannot see that this criteria is met. I also note that the last edit in August by an unregistered user was a constructive addition of a userbox and categories. If there is continuing vandalism in the future then you can request protection of a page at Wikipedia:Requests for page protection where other admins can usually act quickly on a request. ArbCom Election RFC courtesy notice[edit]

A request for comment that may interest you is currently in progress at Wikipedia:Requests for comment/Arbitration Committee 2. If you have already participated, then please disregard this notice and my apologies. Manning (talk) 08:23, 1 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]
You received this message because you participated in the earlier ArbCom secret ballot RFC.

I notice that you added some questions to this page. You might have missed the instruction stating that users are limited to asking a single question. In consideration of this, and of the huge burden on candidates to answer questions, please consider removing all but one question from your submission. Stifle (talk) 10:14, 2 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Davewild, could I second this request by Stifle? In a few days' time, I think the organisers of the election will be pressing home the one-question rule. Tony (talk) 09:15, 6 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Catbus AfD[edit]

Hi. I noticed your close of WP:Articles for deletion/Catbus. I agree with your closing statement's consideration of merging. Some editors consider merge equivalent to keep and see a unanimous keep there, perhaps even a speedy keep, which is hinted at in WP:AfD and mergers#AfD outcomes. I've been thinking about writing an essay AfD keep variants describing nuances between keep and delete – would you have any interest in that? Thanks. Flatscan (talk) 03:41, 10 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]

question[edit]

While reading comments that somebody else wrote in an AFD about an Army major: Delete. Single event of an not otherwise newsworthy subject. Remember, no consensus = default to delete. Cla68 (talk) 04:27, 10 November 2009 (UTC)

But you wrote this:

The result was No Consensus defaulting to Keep. There is no consensus that I can see between those who think the list is inherently POV and unmaintainable, and those who think the issues with the list can be solved and that it is a valid topic for a list. I encourage those who think it should be kept (and others of course!) to discuss on the talk page ways to improve the list. Davewild (talk) 11:38, 23 March 2008 (UTC)

Digirami edits on River Plate article[edit]

Hi!, I am truly sorry for the "vandalism" you have remarked on my actions, but this has a reason. The user I've commented has being changing River Plate article several times by adding an ignominous defeat against Liga (7-0), in the historical section of that article. I must remark that I've been the only one (unitl now) editing that article, and this guy is adding that piece of information as a matter of making fun on someone. I really dislike about this attitudes. I have talked to him, warning about this, but he didn't put down his attitude, so I decided to go on editing his own page.

Try to talk to him, because this situation is running out of my patience.

--VH1982 (talk) 17:51, 25 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Reference your comment on my talk page. You need to stop your edits such as this one immediately and discuss the article civilly on the talk page. Every article is open to editing by anyone and where there is disagreement over the content this should be discussed not edit warred over. If you cannot reach agreement after a civil discussion you can consider Wikipedia:Dispute resolution such as requesting a third opinion. I notice Digirami has started a discussion here which you should consider joining and will get informed editors involved. Davewild (talk) 20:13, 25 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Onboarding article - keeping[edit]

Appreciate your closing the deletion conversation on the article on "Onboarding". It seemed like a valid discussion in which people on both sides of the question made some very good points. I certainly learned a lot about how the Wikipedia community works. Gbradt (talk) 11:14, 27 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]
