Colours in member lists[edit]

Basically, the problem is that we've got hundreds of member lists articles across the Australian parliaments, and people come along and decide to fiddle with the appearance of just a few of them, and when that happens, over the space of years, to lots of lists in lots of different ways, it creates what winds up looking like a complete dogs breakfast, and creates a bit of a nightmare for other editors to try and keep them even vaguely consistent (within a series of lists for a state parliament as well as across the other states).

I don't have particularly strong opinions about whether or not member lists should have colours, but if there's going to be a broader rollout it probably warrants both having a discussion about it (WT:AUSPOL is probably the place to find interested people) as well as committing to actually doing the other hundreds of lists in some kind of organised way, and not just changing one or two here and there. I had intended to work through all the Australian state ones just to make them consistent. I had started with WA today working from most recent to oldest, as most recent seem to be the ones most used, and West to East is kind of my left to right of working through topics sometimes. However if its better to first discuss at WT:AUSPOL I can raise a discussion there first, no worries. I did freak out getting part the way through today and having them reverted so quickly, I was worried I had really stuffed the lists. Dauwenkust (talk) 07:06, 5 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Nah, no worries - I'm just wary of someone new to the project diving in and reformatting just a couple of lists without much sign that they're intending to finish the job, because it's a great way for people to make a mess (and it's happened a bunch in the past). If you're willing to change them all (particularly in the series of lists) and other people are okay with it, I'm not too fussed. I do think the NSW solution for party changers looks dreadful (with the random colour boxes out on the other side), and it'd be good to at least come up with a better solution for that. Hello! Voting in the 2023 Arbitration Committee elections is now open until 23:59 (UTC) on Monday, 11 December 2023. All eligible users are allowed to vote. Users with alternate accounts may only vote once.

The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to impose binding solutions to disputes between editors, primarily for serious conduct disputes the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the authority to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail.
