Denny Demarchi[edit]

I have removed the speedy deletion tag from this article, although it still needs to be "wikified." I'm substituting some links that you might find helpful as you construct your first article.

In the future, it would probably be best you use your sandbox until the article is in a more complete form. Working line by line is not recommended.--digitalmischief (talk) 07:05, 13 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

License tagging for File:Sheriff album coverart.jpg[edit]

Thanks for uploading File:Sheriff album coverart.jpg. You don't seem to have indicated the license status of the image. Wikipedia uses a set of image copyright tags to indicate this information; to add a tag to the image, select the appropriate tag from this list, click on this link, then click "Edit this page" and add the tag to the image's description. If there doesn't seem to be a suitable tag, the image is probably not appropriate for use on Wikipedia.

For help in choosing the correct tag, or for any other questions, leave a message on Wikipedia:Media copyright questions. Thank you for your cooperation. --ImageTaggingBot (talk) 00:07, 17 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Help![edit]

Hi! You seem to know a bit about ALIAS, so maybe you can help me?

I've been trying to work out Who's who in this picture, but I'm frustrated (and a little embarassed!) that I can't!!

Candidates:

  • Freddy Curci - lead vocals
  • Steve DeMarchi - guitar
  • Roger Fisher - guitar
  • Steve Fossen - bass
  • Mike DeRosier - drums

My (corrected) guesses:

  • back-left: Fossen Fisher
  • back-centre: DeRosier
  • back: right: Fisher Fossen
  • front left: Curci
  • front right: DeMarchi

If I'm wrong, please correct File:CanSAAAAYY.jpg and Alias (band) as quickly as possible!

Cheers, Pdfpdf (talk) 11:25, 4 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks PDFpdf, for working on improving this article. You got them mostly correct except for Steve Fossen in back-right and Roger Fisher is back-left.Daphne80smusic (talk) 07:42, 7 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks! Pdfpdf (talk) 07:59, 7 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]
(If Meatloaf can make millions by singing "two out of three ain't bad", and given that in this situation four out of five is not possible, how does three out of five rate? rhetorical question)
More help please. In this picture, top left: Fisher, bottom right: Fossen? Thanks, Pdfpdf (talk) 10:41, 8 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Bottom left: Roger Fisher. bottom right is Fossen.Daphne80smusic (talk) 00:15, 9 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Image copyright problem with File:Alias cover art.jpg[edit]

Thanks for uploading File:Alias cover art.jpg. You've indicated that the image is being used under a claim of fair use, but you have not provided an adequate explanation for why it meets Wikipedia's requirements for such images. In particular, for each page the image is used on, the image must have an explanation linking to that page which explains why it needs to be used on that page. Can you please check

  • That there is a non-free use rationale on the image's description page for each article the image is used in.
  • That every article it is used on is linked to from its description page.

This is an automated notice by FairuseBot. For assistance on the image use policy, see Wikipedia:Media copyright questions. --FairuseBot (talk) 04:38, 7 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I think (hope?) I've fixed this problem. Cheers, Pdfpdf (talk) 05:01, 7 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Woo hoo! You've created a page for it! Great stuff!!
A few comments:

  • "Never Say Never (Alias album)" is probably a better name for the page.
  • The text of the article reads like it has been copied from a press release, which would make it a copyright violation, which is a big no-no, (unless you do inline quotes of the source(s)).
  • Unrelated, but note that the non-free-use-license of an album cover means the cover can ONLY be used on the page of the album. For example, the license does NOT allow you to put the image on the Alias (band) page.

Well done, and keep up the good work! Cheers, Pdfpdf (talk) 12:42, 7 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

P.S. Do you have any interest in the ex-Heart (band) guys, or is your interest limited to DeMarchi & Curci? Pdfpdf (talk) 12:42, 7 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I can't seem to find a whole lot of information for the ex-heart members, especially Steve Fossen and Mike Derosier. Would be happy to create an article for Fossen and Derosier when time allows for more research on them. Daphne80smusic (talk) 19:48, 8 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

(Apologies for delayed response - I have many excuses, some of them actually reasonable!)
I haven't been able to find anything of sufficient volume or interest to create an article either ... Ho hum Pdfpdf (talk) 13:55, 25 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]
P.S. I'm particularly interested to find ANYTHING about Mike Fisher. To date, haven't found ANYTHING. Pdfpdf (talk) 13:55, 25 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

The content may be similiar to the press release on www.melodicrock.com but I did a re write in my own words, so I don't think there is a copyright violation. When time allows, I'll be adding more content to this article in the future. I would like to contribute to more articles about musicians and bands of the 80s, 90s as well as Indie bands. Thanks for helping me out as I am new to wikipedia and Alias band is my first project. Daphne80smusic (talk) 20:01, 8 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

"and Alias band is my first project." - Really?! Wow! You are a fast learner, and I'm very impressed!! I realised that you weren't an experienced contributor, but for a first article, you've done an excellent job. I'd like to claim that it was due to my help, but that would be completely unjustified! Well done!! Pdfpdf (talk) 13:55, 25 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]
P.S. Just to reinforce, should you want future help/advice from me, if it is within my capabilities, I'm more than "happy to assist". Cjeers, Pdfpdf (talk) 13:55, 25 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

"Alias Never Say Never (album)" vs "Never Say Never (Alias album)"?[edit]

How do you feel about renaming the page from "Alias Never Say Never (album)" to "Never Say Never (Alias album)"? Cheers, Pdfpdf (talk) 12:49, 7 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I have moved this article as Pdfpdf requested. Daphne, please review our naming conventions prior to creating articles.
Additionally, you cannot create a new article for a subject that is already covered, and you certainly cannot cut and paste text from one article to create another without attribution, as this is a violation of the site's license. Both of these mistakes took place when you created (I Need You Now) More Than Words Can Say by Alias. I have since deleted the article and cleaned up the bad links.
While I admire and laud your enthusiasm, please be more cautious when creating new articles. Thanks, caknuck ° is a silly pudding 19:22, 7 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Hmmmm. (Hi Daphne!) I didn't actually request the move - I asked you for your opinion. Oh well ... Pdfpdf (talk) 01:44, 8 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I prefer to use Alias Never Say Never (album) as the title. I feel that fans who do a search using search engines like google or yahoo are most likely going to type in "Alias Never Say Never". With the current article title the search engines will not have as high a probability of finding this article. Though I agree there should be a naming convention, but the more important issue should be how easy internet users are going to be able to find the article based on what the most likely search phrases they will use to find what they are looking for in search engines like google or yahoo. After all what good is an article if no one can locate it.Daphne80smusic (talk) 20:19, 8 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Is there anyway to move the title back to "Alias Never Say Never" (album) since this is actually the title according to the shopemi order page. Thanks. Daphne80smusic (talk) 20:38, 8 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

No. Please review WP:NC#Music for the correct naming conventions. If we don't keep the naming conventions consistent, then we get duplicate articles like we did with More Than Words Can Say. Consistency takes precedence over search engine ranking (which Wikipedia rarely has problems with anyway). And I checked shopemi.com, and the album title is "Never Say Never". I think you misread the page. caknuck ° is a silly pudding 22:09, 8 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks Caknuck for your wisdom, what will wikipedia do without you! Cheers!Daphne80smusic (talk) 00:24, 9 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Hi "Daphne". I understand your concerns, and not only agree with your point of view, I share it. So let me hasten to say that fortunately, as is happens, your concerns are not a problem. Perhaps I had beter explain!
A page with the title Alias Never Say Never (album) still exists. Hold down shift and click on this link. A new window will open, displaying the page Never Say Never (Alias album).
If you look closely, you will see the top of the page says:
Never Say Never (Alias album)
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
(Redirected from Alias Never Say Never (album))
To see what is actually on the "Alias Never Say Never (album)" page, hold shift and click on this: http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Alias_Never_Say_Never_(album)&redirect=no
So, your concerns are not a problem because a page with your desired title actually does exist, and actually does lead the searcher to the desired information.
In any case, independent of this, if you do a google search on both "Alias Never Say Never (album)" and "Never Say Never (Alias album)", you will notice that what they return is very similar - possibly (except for sort order) identical.
I hope this reply addresses your concerns. If not, please don't hesitate to ask for clarification. Cheers, Pdfpdf (talk) 10:13, 9 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]
BTW: You will notice that (I Need You Now) More Than Words Can Say by Alias is now a blue link, because I recreated the page, but this time as a redirect to More Than Words Can Say.
(Also, previously, I created More than words can say (all lower case) because it's easier to type(!) - there are hard-line wikipedians who would say that's what the page name should be anyway ... but that's a different can-of-worms!)
Cheers, Pdfpdf (talk) 10:13, 9 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Dear Pdfpdf, thank you for what you've done! I appreciate it more than words can say! :) Daphne80smusic (talk) 07:13, 12 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

"need any help with this article?" - Yes please!!
"I emailed Rick Neigher to introduce myself." - That was very resourceful of you! And a good idea, too.
"He appreciates your creating the wikipedia article about him" - his name just seemed to keep popping up everywhere, so I thought it was about time to start an article on him ...
"he said you can contact him" - That could be handy.
"Happy Valentine's Day!" - Well thank you. If it's still Valentines Day "out west", then "likewise". If not, I hope you had a good one.
More later - gotta go chop down a tree. Cheers, Pdfpdf (talk) 02:43, 15 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

P.S. Anything you can add to the article (ANYTHING!) would be useful at the moment. I seem to have too many "balls in the air" at the moment, and as Rick isn't my highest priority, he (and others) aren't getting much attention ... Cheers, Pdfpdf (talk) 13:59, 25 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Daphne!
I hope all is well with you?
(After almost continuous wiki-activity through December and January to mid-February, you only seem to have made one contribution since 16 Feb.)
If you have a look at Talk:Freddy Curci, you'll see that some people have been asking for sources for some of the information you put there. Can you provide some URLs please?
Best wishes, Pdfpdf (talk) 12:09, 22 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Disputed fair use rationale for File:Denny DeMarchi album cover.jpg}[edit]

Thank you for uploading File:Denny DeMarchi album cover.jpg. However, there is a concern that the rationale provided for using this image under "fair use" may not meet the criteria required by Wikipedia:Non-free content. This can be corrected by going to the image description page and add or clarify the reason why the image qualifies for fair use. In particular, for each page the image is used on, the image must have an explanation linking to that page which explains why it needs to be used on that page. Can you please check:

  • That there is a non-free use rationale on the image's escription page for each article the image is used in.
  • That every article it is used on is linked to from its description page.

Please be aware that a fair use rationale is not the same as an image copyright tag; descriptions for images used under the fair use policy require both a copyright tag and a fair use rationale.

If it is determined that the image does not qualify under fair use, it might be deleted by adminstrator within a few days in accordance with our criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions, please ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thank you. NOTE: once you correct this, please remove the tag from the image's page. Orphaned non-free image (File:Denny DeMarchi album cover.jpg)[edit]

⚠

Thanks for uploading File:Denny DeMarchi album cover.jpg. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of "file" pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "File" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free images not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. Aspects (talk) 06:10, 11 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Disambiguation link notification for November 4[edit]

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. Wikipedia appreciates your help. We noticed though that when you edited Killer Bee (band), you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page REM (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver). Such links are almost always unintended, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of "Did you mean..." article titles. Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.

It's OK to remove this message. Also, to stop receiving these messages, follow these opt-out instructions. Thanks, DPL bot (talk) 10:52, 4 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]

This image is likely to be deleted, because it's a non-free image of living people for whom a free image could reasonably be taken. As a non-free image, if it is kept, it will be reduced to 330x467 or so, to meet WP:NFCC.

If you want the image kept, and kept at high resolution, I strongly suggest getting the band and/or photographer to license that image freely forever under Creative Commons, using CC-BY-3.0. This means the band/photographer retains their copyright, but licenses anyone to use the image with credit given to the band or photographer, with no share-alike, meaning no derivative uses or remixing permitted. Here are the steps:

  1. Copy and fill out the form from Commons:OTRS#Licensing_images:_when_do_I_contact_OTRS.3F (scroll down) with the CC-BY license 3.0 indicated.
  2. Send the form and image to the photographer.
  3. Get them to fill out the rest of the form, and indicate that KIA released the photo. Have them reply, with the attachments intact to you, that way you can doublecheck their work.
  4. While you're waiting, put {{OTRS pending}} on the image Description page. No kidding around, get the permission.
  5. After the photographer sends back the filled-out form+image to you, forward it, attachments intact, to permissions-commons(at)wikimedia.org
(if the image has been deleted in the meantime, upload it to Commons, with the CC-BY-SA license, and "OTRS pending")
  6. After OTRS responds by email, they, or you, will add the OTRS ticket # to the image.

Replaceable fair use File:Denny DeMarchi playing keyboard at Cranberries concert in Fortaleza Brazil.jpg[edit]

Thanks for uploading File:Denny DeMarchi playing keyboard at Cranberries concert in Fortaleza Brazil.jpg. I noticed the description page specifies that this media item is being used under a claim of fair use, but its use in Wikipedia articles fails the first non-free content criterion in that it illustrates a subject for which a freely licensed media item could be found or created that provides substantially the same information or which could be adequately covered with text alone. If you believe this media item is not replaceable, please:

  1. Go to the file description page and edit it to add {{di-replaceable fair use disputed}}, without deleting the original replaceable fair use template.
  2. On the file discussion page, write the reason why this media item is not replaceable at all.

Alternatively, you can also choose to replace this non-free media item by finding freely licensed media of the same subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or similar) media under a free license, or by creating new media yourself (for example, by taking your own photograph of the subject).

If you have uploaded other non-free media, consider checking that you have specified how these media fully satisfy our non-free content criteria. You can find a list of description pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that even if you follow steps 1 and 2 above, non-free media which could be replaced by freely licensed alternatives will be deleted 2 days after this notification (7 days if uploaded before 13 July 2006), per the non-free content policy. If you have any questions, please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. VernoWhitney (talk) 17:29, 15 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]
