Arizona Libertarian Party

Hello, even though you only did the first section I am thankful for what you said on the prose, spelling, and grammar aspect of the article's first section. I am wondering if you could just jot done some of the problems in the other sections if you have the time so that I can work on improving the article. - Jon698 talk 2:37 8 April 2020

The biggest issue was probably run on sentences, but there were some odd constructions as well. I suggest trying to read it out loud to yourself --DannyS712 (talk) 02:45, 8 April 2020 (UTC)

Your GA nomination of Ross Perot

Hi there, I'm pleased to inform you that I've begun reviewing the article Ross Perot you nominated for GA-status according to the criteria. This process may take up to 7 days. Feel free to contact me with any questions or comments you might have during this period. Message delivered by Legobot, on behalf of HAL333 -- HAL333 (talk) 06:20, 8 April 2020 (UTC)

New NodeJS bot framework

Hi, I thought you'd be interested in knowing that I created a new Node.js bot framework - see mwn. It's mostly written on the MWBot (which I see you used in your bot) as a foundation - though I also copied stuff from mw.Api, and added a host of improvements of my own - such as automated retry on maxlag and expired token (badtoken) errors, and a suite of functions for bulk API processing.

Your contributions would be very much appreciated! See issues for a list of open tasks. SD0001 (talk) 20:06, 8 April 2020 (UTC)

@SD0001: I'll take a look, but no promises DannyS712 (talk) 21:08, 8 April 2020 (UTC)

New format for old requests for the redirect whitelist

Hey Danny! I intended to let you know earlier, but I reorganized the old requests by whether they were approved or denied at Wikipedia talk:New pages patrol/Redirect whitelist/Old requests. I felt that it was more important to easily see which users have been denied than to keep all requests chronological by month. They are still chronological within their specific section, but now it matches the archiving for the rest of WP:PERM (except for there are different pages for approved and denied requests rather than different sections). If you would prefer to keep the requests the way they were previously, then you can revert and continue to archive in the previous fashion, as there is no current consensus to what should be done with the archive. Utopes (talk / cont) 23:24, 9 April 2020 (UTC)

@Utopes: No objections from me DannyS712 (talk) 23:25, 9 April 2020 (UTC)

Your GA nomination of Ross Perot

The article Ross Perot you nominated as a good article has passed ; see Talk:Ross Perot for comments about the article. Well done! If the article has not already been on the main page as an "In the news" or "Did you know" item, you can nominate it to appear in Did you know. Message delivered by Legobot, on behalf of HAL333 -- HAL333 (talk) 05:41, 19 April 2020 (UTC)

@HAL333: Thanks DannyS712 (talk) 05:43, 19 April 2020 (UTC)

While I skimmed the article, I noticed a couple things:

  • It isn't clear in the lead paragraph that he ran for the office of President of the United States. This should be explicitly stated; don't assume the reader is familiar with the subject.
  • fulfilled his annual sales quota in a mere two weeks Tone issue saying mere in Wikipedia's voice. The fact that he did a year's sales in two weeks should be impressive enough to the reader without this embellishment.
  • in Dallas, Texas and courted needs a comma after Texas (MOS:GEOCOMMA). Similarly with in Washington, D.C. where,
  • sold it to David Rubenstein, managing director of The Carlyle Group for $21.3 million Needs a comma after Group.
  • his angel investor was Perot, who invested over $20 million. I'm not sure that I like the tone of "angel investor" which sounds a little peacocky. If you're going to use it, I would suggest linking to angel investor, and maybe avoid the investor/invested repetition by changing the last clause to: provided $20 million in seed money/capital.
  • Perot also launched private investigations of, and attacks upon, United States Department of Defense official Richard Armitage. I feel that this needs to be clear that this refers to an attack on the reputation of Armitage, and not a physical attack.
  • He unsuccessfully urged Senators I think Senators can be lower-case (MOS:JOBTITLE).
  • "electronic town halls," and title "Waiting for Perot," and "spoiler," the commas should go outside the quotes, per MOS:LQ
  • The 1992 Campaign: Transcript of 2d TV Debate Between Bush, Clinton and Perot". The New York Times. New York Times Company. October 16, 1992. Retrieved May 16, 2016. I noticed this first because the double-quote isn't paired, but looks like some of this was supposed to be in a reference.
  • Not part of the GA criteria:
    • playing the role of Colonel Simons. Can just say "playing the role of Simons." per MOS:SURNAME. Similarly, Co-manager Hamilton Jordan can simply be "Jordan", and Ed Rollins resigned can be "Rollins resigned". (You only have to use the full name on first mention in the lead and body, and anywhere else where surname only might be confusing.)
    • I think that the title Magna Carta could be italicized.
    • There's a George H.W. Bush in a quotation. You can put a between the initials H.W., per MOS:INITIALS. It's fine to make a little typographical change like that in a quote, per MOS:PMC.

Hope this helps, and thanks for your work on this vital article! – Reidgreg (talk) 11:10, 19 April 2020 (UTC)

Another help for Galician? :)

Hi Danny, how are you? I hope that in this rare time you and your family are well :)

I come here again to request another help for the Galipedia :) It turns out that a while ago, I found a tool that I find very useful on eswiki, this is, It's a tool to correct spelling errors. I was investigating and found that the page of the tool is this. I contacted the programmer to ask him for help to install it in gl.wiki but he told me that at the moment he did not have time to do it. This was in January and I have not heard anything again. I looked a little if I could do it, but it is too much for me, first the code is in GitHub, in Java and Angular, and later it is necessary to have it installed in Toolforge, things of which I have no idea.

The adaptation should not be complex, it would only be necessary to make the tool use the dumps of glwiki instead of those of eswiki, use the list of spelling errors that we already have in glwiki and which follows the same format and change same template names for those used al glwiki.

If you want to give us a hand with this you would be welcome, if you see it's very complex or you are busy, don't worry, I will understand, everyone does what they can and you have already done enough :) Saúdos, Elisardojm (talk) 22:49, 20 April 2020 (UTC)

@Elisardojm: Unfortunately, that would be a much larger project for me to undertake, since it is an external tool (hosted on toolforge, a name for wmflabs.org). But, I have been meaning to update the script I gave you - I know a lot more about making scripts and gadgets on wikipedia, and there are some improvements to be made DannyS712 (talk) 22:52, 20 April 2020 (UTC)
I understand, thank you very much equally :). On script updates, any improvements that can be added will be great. If you need me to do something or translate a message, let me know and I will be delighted. Saúdos, Elisardojm (talk) 07:52, 21 April 2020 (UTC)

SQL help

Hi, would you be able to create an SQL query that lists indefinitely semi-protected redirects with the name of the article and the date it was protected? It'd be great if articles were wikilinked, too. This exists, but it doesn't have the timestamps for some reason. Thanks in advance, Anarchyte (talkwork) 08:39, 22 April 2020 (UTC)

Just a follow-up: I managed to get a list of them all, but I'm not sure how to get protection timestamps. I made a VPT post here. Anarchyte (talkwork) 09:24, 23 April 2020 (UTC)
@Anarchyte: Sorry I didn't see it. Fairly sure the dates are missing because the predate the page_restrictions table. I'll take a look DannyS712 (talk) 09:41, 23 April 2020 (UTC)
@Anarchyte: ...lol, I took a look at the database report you linked - is Wikipedia:Database reports/Indefinitely semi-protected redirects/1 what you want? DannyS712 (talk) 09:47, 23 April 2020 (UTC)
Yeah, I'm trying to generate an updated version of that. That hasn't been updated since last March. Anarchyte (talkwork) 09:48, 23 April 2020 (UTC)
@MZMcBride: can you take a look? For the life of me I don't understand your folder structure and python commands... :( DannyS712 (talk) 10:02, 23 April 2020 (UTC)
... I tried tools.dbreps@tools-sgebastion-07:~/src/database-reports$ python dbreps -r general.indefsemiredirects -s enwiki and now its frozen? running? Something happened, I think DannyS712 (talk) 10:14, 23 April 2020 (UTC)
@Anarchyte and MZMcBride: worked - check the database report now. (just took a while) (other reports that aren't updating probably fail because of actor and comment migrations) Hope this helped. It should be updated weekly going forward again DannyS712 (talk) 10:27, 23 April 2020 (UTC)
Wow, well that's a lot easier for me than having to make queries for everything. Thanks! I've still got this which makes me wonder: how difficult would it be to create a new database report for fully-protected redirects? Anarchyte (talkwork) 10:32, 23 April 2020 (UTC)
@Anarchyte: Do you want all the info too? DannyS712 (talk) 10:33, 23 April 2020 (UTC)
The info about each fully-protected redirect like what we've got with the semi-protected ones? Certainly, that'd be much appreciated. Anarchyte (talkwork) 10:36, 23 April 2020 (UTC)

Cape Canaveral

Hey; wanted to let you know I reverted the move on Cape Canaveral AFS because it hasn’t officially been renamed yet. There has been no announcement from the official site and local media reported a month ago that it would be delayed until after COVID permits gatherings. Also not the first time NASAWatch got it wrong. After rename officially happens though, should be an easy move. Garuda28 (talk) 01:11, 29 April 2020 (UTC)

@Garuda28: There was a move request at Special:Permalink/953778893#Proposed rename of Cape Canaveral Space Force Station articles that found consensus to rename it DannyS712 (talk) 01:12, 29 April 2020 (UTC)
@DannyS712: Consensus for many moves (which make sense and I supported). Consensus or not, it hasn’t happened yet meaning that we can’t make the move from a factual perspective. I’d suggest reposting this one, because I have a feeling they glossed over it or didnt question the source. Garuda28 (talk) 01:13, 29 April 2020 (UTC)
@Garuda28: in that case, please file a new move request. I'm not going to move war, but I highly suggest you revert yourself DannyS712 (talk) 01:15, 29 April 2020 (UTC)
@DannyS712: Based on the preponderance of the sources (including the official site giving no indication of rename and all other sources indicating a delayed rename) I will not be reverting myself, but I’d encourage you to start a discussion on the article or space flight page if you have the sources to support that a move did occur, without any changes to the official Patrick AFB/Cape Canaveral AFS page and with no media coverage. Garuda28 (talk) 01:19, 29 April 2020 (UTC)
@Garuda28: I take no position on whether the move should occur or not, only that a discussion reached a consensus in favor of the move, and you reverted it unilaterally in violation of policy. I will be starting no discussion myself, because I'm not invested in the title, only in the process and respecting consensus. Please see Wikipedia:Move review if you wish to challenge the consensus reached. This would have been different if you had decided to discuss my close before reverting, but you didn't. Your move violated Wikipedia:Requested moves#Undiscussed moves, and again, I request that you revert yourself DannyS712 (talk) 01:24, 29 April 2020 (UTC)
@Garuda28: I have opened a thread at Wikipedia:Move review/Log/2020 April#Cape Canaveral Air Force Station for community review DannyS712 (talk) 01:35, 29 April 2020 (UTC)
@DannyS712: I would like to add that no user commented after I added that the source you had was incorrect on the page. Furthermore, per WP:RM moves requests need to be closed by an uninvolved user. It can easily be said that until that happened there was no consensus to move. Garuda28 (talk) 01:46, 29 April 2020 (UTC)
@Garuda28: I am an uninvolved user, and found that there was consensus. DannyS712 (talk) 01:47, 29 April 2020 (UTC)
@DannyS712: Okay, now I totally feel like an idiot... I totally misread how the post was written. I genuinely read it as you, the initiator, closing their own move request. I owe you a deep apology and am reverting myself now that I realize I was the one who was outside the guidelines. Seriously, sorry :( I just realized I became like the users who I most despised and I can't believe it. I seriously do apologize. Garuda28 (talk) 01:53, 29 April 2020 (UTC)
@Garuda28: thanks for rereading it and being able to recognize and own up to your mistake (its hard to convey tone in writing, but this isn't meant to be condescending - most people would have just said sorry and left it at that) DannyS712 (talk) 02:02, 29 April 2020 (UTC)
@DannyS712: Tone is quite difficult through text, you are right. I hope that my sincerity came through (I actually feel slightly sick rn). I remember when I first came on and there were some users who lacked patience, whether from understanding or what not. I swore I'd never be like them. I surprised myself today, and not in a good way. Thank you for teaching me, and I do mean that. Legit question: now that I moved it back does the move request title need to be changed to space force station? Garuda28 (talk) 02:06, 29 April 2020 (UTC)
@Garuda28: I don't think so DannyS712 (talk) 02:35, 29 April 2020 (UTC)

WikiCup 2020 May newsletter

The second round of the 2020 WikiCup has now finished. It was a high-scoring round and contestants needed 75 points to advance to round 3. There were some very impressive efforts in round 2, with the top ten contestants all scoring more than 500 points. A large number of the points came from the 12 featured articles and the 186 good articles achieved in total by contestants, and the 355 good article reviews they performed; the GAN backlog drive and the stay-at-home imperative during the COVID-19 pandemic may have been partially responsible for these impressive figures.

Our top scorers in round 2 were:

  • New York (state) Epicgenius, with 2333 points from one featured article, forty-five good articles, fourteen DYKs and plenty of bonus points
  • England Gog the Mild, with 1784 points from three featured articles, eight good articles, a substantial number of featured article and good article reviews and lots of bonus points
  • Botswana The Rambling Man, with 1262 points from two featured articles, eight good articles and a hundred good article reviews
  • Somerset Harrias, with 1141 points from two featured articles, three featured lists, ten good articles, nine DYKs and a substantial number of featured article and good article reviews
  • England Lee Vilenski with 869 points, Gondor Hog Farm with 801, Venezuela Kingsif with 719, Cascadia (independence movement) SounderBruce with 710, United States Dunkleosteus77 with 608 and Mexico MX with 515.

The rules for featured article reviews have been adjusted; reviews may cover three aspects of the article, content, images and sources, and contestants may receive points for each of these three types of review. Please also remember the requirement to mention the WikiCup when undertaking an FAR for which you intend to claim points. Remember also that DYKs cannot be claimed until they have appeared on the main page. As we enter the third round, any content promoted after the end of round 2 but before the start of round 3 can be claimed now, and anything you forgot to claim in round 2 cannot! Remember too, that you must claim your points within 14 days of "earning" them. When doing GARs, please make sure that you check that all the GA criteria are fully met.

If you are concerned that your nomination—whether it is at good article nominations, a featured process, or anything else—will not receive the necessary reviews, please list it on Wikipedia:WikiCup/Reviews Needed (remember to remove your listing when no longer required). Questions are welcome on Wikipedia talk:WikiCup, and the judges are reachable on their talk pages or by email. Good luck! If you wish to start or stop receiving this newsletter, please feel free to add or remove your name from Wikipedia:WikiCup/Newsletter/Send. COVID-19 WIki project consensus

Hey Danny,

we talked about this on the project talk page some time ago.

What do you think? It's a crazy quick test and I have no experience with templates. I need some tech advice before I propose it in to other editors. Is there a way to have the consensus section collapse into a more readable form? It would be great and we could include it in all pages related to the project in one go. Might also make sense to propose it for the future of other projects too. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Template:WikiProject_COVID-19/Sandbox -- {{u|Gtoffoletto}}talk 13:38, 4 May 2020 (UTC)

Essential Features for the proposal:

  • Collapsible consensus section with a "header" when it is collapsed

Nice to haves:

  • Auto collapse if there are many boxes, otherwise don't collapse?
  • parameter with which one may choose to bypass the inclusion of the consensus section

I remember you were asking for something to do. How about it? :) -- {{u|Gtoffoletto}}talk 13:41, 4 May 2020 (UTC)

@Gtoffoletto: not sure, sorry DannyS712 (talk) 14:46, 4 May 2020 (UTC)

Prep 5

Hi, thanks for helping with DYK hook promotions! Two comments: Only up to 50% of the set can be U.S. based. You have 5 U.S.-based hooks here. You can move one of them to Prep 4 if you'd like (maybe the Supreme Court one, since it comes right after a hook about a murder defense). Also, the credit lines are not complete; they should also include the subpage parameter. Thanks again, Yoninah (talk) 23:51, 9 May 2020 (UTC)

@Yoninah: Thanks for the feedback. 2 questions:
  • The examples at Template:Did you know/Clear don't have subpage parameters for the credits. Since the subpages all match the article name, are they needed?
  • I only count 4 US hooks - Ogden Gas Company, First Battle of Newtonia, Plumhoff v. Rickard, and MLS Cup 1997 - what is the fifth?
Thanks, --DannyS712 (talk) 23:55, 9 May 2020 (UTC)
Each nomination template has a credit line right under the hook and nomination data. Go to the history of Template:Did you know nominations/Ogden Gas scandal and click on "prev" in the edit before yours. If you click on "edit this page", you'll see this credit line:
* {{DYKmake|Ogden Gas scandal|John M Wolfson|subpage=Ogden Gas scandal}}
Just copy this whole line into the credit section on the prep set.
The image hook, The Blinding (song), is by an American rapper. Best, Yoninah (talk) 00:03, 10 May 2020 (UTC)
@Yoninah: I understand where to get the subpage info, I'm just saying that the example prep doesn't have the subpages. I'll add them, but for others who want to try building preps, the example should be fixed. I didn't think that the song being by an American meant that it counted as a US hook, but I'll change it DannyS712 (talk) 00:05, 10 May 2020 (UTC)
Yes, I see. I'm going to ask someone to fix that on the example prep. You're not the first prep builder to leave off the subpage parameter! Thanks, Yoninah (talk) 00:07, 10 May 2020 (UTC)
@Yoninah: No problem. I've switched out a hook DannyS712 (talk) 00:12, 10 May 2020 (UTC)
Thanks, but ... what happened to your image hook? This new one is very dark; I wasn't planning on promoting it to an image slot. Also, you have no biographical hooks at all, so the song hook at least talked about people. Yoninah (talk) 00:14, 10 May 2020 (UTC)
@Yoninah: That was the one I switched out - I think Template:Did you know nominations/Admiral's House, Hampstead is more interesting of a hook DannyS712 (talk) 00:15, 10 May 2020 (UTC)
But where did you put The Blinding? Once you promote a hook, you should find another place for it. It's distressing for an editor to see his hook un-promoted. Yoninah (talk) 00:17, 10 May 2020 (UTC)
@Yoninah: I just reverted my edit, since I wasn't planning on building another prep; it was still transcluded at the /approved page DannyS712 (talk) 00:18, 10 May 2020 (UTC)
Hmm, I guess you work fast :) OK, if you don't mind, I'm going to move some things around to inject some more bio hooks in there. We are running very low on bio hooks right now, but we're trying to get at least 2 or 3 into an 8-hook set. That image is also pitch-black at thumbnail size... Yoninah (talk) 00:20, 10 May 2020 (UTC)
@Yoninah: (to clarify: I reverted my edit that promoted the blinding hook) sounds good to me. Sorry for the trouble DannyS712 (talk) 00:22, 10 May 2020 (UTC)
DannyS712, it's great that you're trying your hand at putting together prep sets. It's complicated at first, since there are so many things to juggle to get a balanced set, but it will soon become second nature. Even those of us with long experience sometimes forget a factor and have to adjust later, and we all overlooked more things than we like to remember when we were starting. Were you pointed at WP:DYKSG#Rules of thumb for preparing updates? There's lots of good advice there. BlueMoonset (talk) 01:10, 10 May 2020 (UTC)
@BlueMoonset: No, I wasn't pointed there; thanks for the link DannyS712 (talk) 01:40, 10 May 2020 (UTC)

Permission to use forked and modified User:DannyS712/New pages feed script

Hey there,

I happened to come across some of your user scripts which I found very useful, including the New Pages Feed script. However, as a NPP myself, I am more accustomed to reviewing pages with Special:NewPages rather than Special:NewPagesFeed. Therefore, I was wondering if I could fork your script for my own use with slight modifications, so it links to Special:NewPages instead. I have given you credit for the script, as you can see in my my common.js. Thanks for creating those scripts, and happy editing :) --Dps04 (talk) 04:46, 10 May 2020 (UTC)

@Dps04: Thanks for letting me know, but its not needed; the script is really simple, and if I were to write it now it would be as a line in my common.js, not as a script. Thanks, --DannyS712 (talk) 05:04, 10 May 2020 (UTC)
@DannyS712: Guess that's why I am not involved in script writing, cause that looks complicated for me. But alrighty, thanks sir. See you around --Dps04 (talk) 05:11, 10 May 2020 (UTC)

@IloveAircrafts: yeah, I was in the middle of restoring it - per Wikipedia:Citing sources#How to place an inline citation using ref tags, the period should go before the reference tag. Can you please explain why you believed it to be non constructive? DannyS712 (talk) 02:05, 13 May 2020 (UTC)

DYK for Ross Perot

On 13 May 2020, Did you know was updated with a fact from the article Ross Perot, which you recently created, substantially expanded, or brought to good article status. The fact was ... that Ross Perot met his wife on a blind date while a midshipman in Baltimore? The nomination discussion and review may be seen at Template:Did you know nominations/Ross Perot. You are welcome to check how many page hits the article got while on the front page (here's how, Ross Perot), and it may be added to the statistics page if the total is over 5,000. Finally, if you know of an interesting fact from another recently created article, then please feel free to suggest it on the Did you know talk page.

Are we human or are we bot?

Can you at least use AWB when you're making 10 edits a minute so I can hide it on my watchlist? Right now I've got 3/4 of my watchlist of "Fixing the location of periods / full stops". Best, Natureium (talk) 01:09, 14 May 2020 (UTC)

@Natureium: I'm human, but this kind of batch isn't really suited for awb. I've marked my edits as minor DannyS712 (talk) 01:10, 14 May 2020 (UTC)
After watching this documentary series I thought we were all bots :-) Best regards to you both and stay safe. MarnetteD|Talk 01:35, 14 May 2020 (UTC)
@MarnetteD: looks like an interesting article. Anyway, I'm done with the periods for now. Hope you stay safe as well, --DannyS712 (talk) 01:39, 14 May 2020 (UTC)
Thanks D. I'm hanging in there. Cheers. MarnetteD|Talk 01:41, 14 May 2020 (UTC)

Thanks for fixing punctuation

We have this tool here https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User:Doc_James/punctuation3.js

That helps but needs improvement. If moves punctuation to in front of references but does not fix the extra space.

Wondering if you can help improve it? Doc James (talk · contribs · email) 05:49, 14 May 2020 (UTC)

@Doc James: I'll take a look, but no promises DannyS712 (talk) 15:09, 14 May 2020 (UTC)
No worries. Only if you have time. Doc James (talk · contribs · email) 08:59, 15 May 2020 (UTC)

Fixing the location of periods / full stops - why reference related to only part of the sentence should be outside of the sentence - i.e. behind full stop?

Hello, DannyS712.

On May 13th, you made some changes to the Colorless green ideas sleep furiously article. You moved one reference behind the full stop.

It looks strange when reference related to only last couple of words of the sentence is located as if it related to the whole sentence. The sentence has other references within. The first reference related to one person, and the next one - at the end of the sentence - just to another person. Not to the entire sentence.

Are you sure the change you've made is correct? Are there any guidelines? Actually, I do not know any related rules and put reference before a full stop only following the logic.

83.102.216.0 (talk) 14:05, 14 May 2020 (UTC)83.102.216.0

The relevant guideline is Wikipedia:Citing sources#How to place an inline citation using ref tags --DannyS712 (talk) 15:08, 14 May 2020 (UTC)
Thank you very much. Have to say, I think this rule is wrong and in most cases refs should be placed before punctuation marks, but... ok - dura lex sed lex and not ideal laws are also should be obeyed. Thank you again. 83.102.216.0 (talk) 15:27, 15 May 2020 (UTC)83.102.216.0

Starting Wikipedia page aerial artist Tjaša Dobravec

Hello,

I am new on Wikipedia and I am searching somebody that could make the Wikipedia page of my partner, professional aerial artist Tjaša Dobravec. I have already written most of the text and listed up the references, and now I am searching a Wikipedia volunteer that could check and publish it. Can you or do you know somebody that could help me?

Thanks in advance and kind regards from Slovenia, Roel

Tjaša Dobravec Tjaša Dobravec (born November 28, 1994) is a Slovene professional aerial artist, poledancer, circus artist, trainer and choreographer. She performs in tv shows, on events and in circus productions all over the world. As a poledancer she competes in the pole art discipline. She is a self learner specialised in pole, fly pole and aerial spiral, all in her typical contemporary style. Accomplishments Slovenija Ima Talent In December 2018 Tjaša Dobravec won the TV show Slovenija Ima Talent. In the first round of Slovenia's Got talent she performed an act on pole. Thereafter she won the semi-final with an act on fly pole. In the final of Slovenija Ima Talent she brought a magical act on the aerial spiral and won the tv show after being selected as superfinalist. [1] Pole Theme Israel Tjaša Dobravec chose Pole Theme Israel in October 2019 as her very first pole competition in the Elite category. She won the competition with a contemporary pole act and was honored as overall winner at the pole art competition in Tel Aviv, Israel. [2] [3] [4] Festival Mondial du Cirque de Demain In February 2020 Tjaša Dobravec was among the participants of 41st edition of the prestigious Festival Mondial du Cirque de Demain in Paris, France. She was the very first contender from Slovenia at this festival, that is known in the world as 'the Olympic Games of modern circus art'. Tjaša Dobravec performed a contemporary act on aerial spiral and won two thropies: the Trophy Yao Jinguo of the national Circus school of China and the Trophy Bretagne Circus. I've seen you have fixed a lot of tasks regarding the Xtools ”Automated edit" function. I authored a few new tasks on Phabricator recently but they are yet to be unanswered. Bot Category Tagging Request

Hello, DannyS712. I was informed at WP:CfD that I could leave a message here requesting that a bot tag categories for the CfD process. I would like to nominate some categories, relating to mobile devices, for rearrangement (for the sake of consistency). Would it be enough to just list the parent categories or should I list every subcategory as well (It’s taking too long to copy-paste each subcategory)? RedBulbBlueBlood9911|Talk 08:00, 29 May 2020 (UTC)

@RedBulbBlueBlood9911: I would need a list of the categories (either the parent categories and an explanation to tag all of the sub categories, or a full list) as well as a link to the CfD page you opened the discussion on, and the requested new names DannyS712 (talk) 08:01, 29 May 2020 (UTC)
Can I give both of these later (maybe one week or so)? My proposal seems to be too complex at the moment. RedBulbBlueBlood9911|Talk 12:58, 29 May 2020 (UTC)

  • A motion was passed to enact a 500/30 restriction on articles related to the history of Jews and antisemitism in Poland during World War II (1933–45), including the Holocaust in Poland. Article talk pages where disruption occurs may also be managed with the stated restriction.

2 questions on setting up a new article page

@DannyS712: Thanks for letting me know the draft article is not supposed to add categories. I have two other questions related to AfC.

  • what is the difference for a new article going through submission for AfC peer review vs being posted directly without the AfC process?
  • If one feels that the review Process takes too long, is it possible to cancel a submission and to switch for posting it directly? Thank you! Precious Stone 15:16, 1 June 2020 (UTC)
There is an explanation at Wikipedia:Articles for creation --DannyS712 (talk) 13:41, 1 June 2020 (UTC)
Thanks Danny. From the link you provided, it says “The Articles for creation (AfC) process is intended to assist editors who cannot (e.g. non-registered or non-autoconfirmed users) or should not (e.g. people with a conflict of interest), create new articles directly into mainspace.“ i wonder how the new article i tried to set up got into this afc review process, as I do not think i am a non-registered or non-autoconfirmed or coi user. is it because i used the new article wizard? in using this wizard, an AfC review is inevitable ? if i posted it directly to a non existing page Xu Pei, a new article would be created right away withou afc review ? Sorry for asking so many questions. i am quite confused. Precious Stone 15:06, 1 June 2020 (UTC) Precious Stone 15:16, 1 June 2020 (UTC)
Sorry, I don't really understand your question. Your draft should be reviewed soon, though there is a backlog --DannyS712 (talk) 15:08, 1 June 2020 (UTC)

GOCE June newsletter

Guild of Copy Editors June 2020 Newsletter

Hello and welcome to the June newsletter, a brief update of Guild activities since March 2020. You can unsubscribe from our mailings at any time; see below. All times and dates stated are in UTC.

Current events

Election time: Nomination of candidates in our mid-year Election of Coordinators opened on 1 June, and voting will take place from 00:01 on 16 June. GOCE coordinators normally serve a six-month term and are elected on an approval basis. Self-nominations are welcome. If you've thought about helping out at the Guild, or you know of another editor who would make a good coordinator, please consider standing for election or nominating them here.

June Blitz: This blitz begins at 00:01 on 14 June and ends at 23:59 on 20 June, with themes of articles tagged for copyedit in May 2020 and requests.

Drive and blitz reports

March Drive: Self-isolation from coronavirus may have played a hand in making this one of our most successful backlog elimination drives. The copy-editing backlog was reduced from 477 to a record low of 118 articles, a 75% reduction. The last four months of 2019 were cleared, reducing the backlog to three months. Fifty requests were also completed, and the total word count of copy-edited articles was 759,945. Of the 29 editors who signed up, 22 completed at least one copy edit. Final results, including barnstars awarded, are available here.

April Blitz: This blitz ran from 12 to 18 April with a theme of Indian military history. Of the 18 people who signed up, 14 copyedited at least one article. Participants claimed a total of 60 copyedits. Final results, including barnstars awarded, are available here.

May Drive: This event marked the 10th anniversary of the GOCE's copy-editing drives, and set a goal of diminishing the backlog to just one month of articles, as close to zero articles as possible. We achieved the goal of eliminating all articles that had been tagged prior to the start of the drive, for the first time in our history! Of the 51 editors who signed up, 43 copyedited at least one article. Final results, including barnstars awarded, are available here.

Other news

Progress report: as of 2 June, GOCE participants had processed 328 requests since 1 January, which puts us on pace to exceed any previous year's number of requests. As of the end of the May drive, the backlog stood at just 156 articles, all tagged in May 2020.

Outreach: To mark the 10th anniversary of our first Backlog Elimination Drive, The Signpost contributor and GOCE participant Puddleglum2.0 interviewed project coordinators and copy-editors for the journal's April WikiProject Report. The Drive and the current Election of Coordinators have also been covered in The Signpost's May News and Notes page.

Thank you all again for your participation; we wouldn't be able to achieve what we have without you! Cheers from your GOCE coordinators Jonesey95, Baffle gab1978, Reidgreg, Tdslk and Twofingered Typist.

You converted the list to a table in some article related to List of United States Supreme Court cases, volume 448. Would it be easy for you to do that one too and remove the cleanup tag? Thank you. RJFJR (talk) 23:56, 6 June 2020 (UTC)

Swedish Curling Hall of Fame

The deletion of the category was not fair or warranted. The Swedish Curling Association is funded by the Swedish Olympic Committee. Its current Men's World Curling Champions are tied for most World Championships and the most European Championships of all time and have won several Grand Slams. The current leading women's team are Olympic champions and have won several Grand Slams. All of the nominees must be approved on national and international merits.

The nomination for deletion was baseless. This is someone who was patrollning Wikipedia and proposing deletions on the grounds that he could not find out anything about it. If you don't know the subject, it shouldn't be deleted just as a wiki-hobby. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Mosjöberg (talkcontribs) 17:09, 7 June 2020 (UTC)

@Mosjöberg: There was consensus at Wikipedia:Categories for discussion/Log/2020 May 11#Category:Swedish Curling Hall of Fame inductees for the deletion DannyS712 (talk) 17:19, 7 June 2020 (UTC)

There was no basis for the alleged "consensus" because the ONLY reason given was biased and not based on anything other than that the person who proposed it thought the Hall of Fame was not real based without any credentials for making that determination. The proponent does not even seem to have any knowledge or interest in curling. It's absurd. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Mosjöberg (talkcontribs) 20:08, 7 June 2020 (UTC)

Deletion criteria for empty talkpage

Hi Danny and Athaenara- Just a procedural question regarding the deletion of File talk:En.wikipedia rollback links.png: Of course we don't need an empty talkpage; I'm just wondering why we bother to have a deletion process for one in such a case. Eric talk 12:57, 8 June 2020 (UTC)

@Eric: I was just going through pages that were blanked by the page creator and tagging them; nothing specific to talkpages DannyS712 (talk) 15:04, 8 June 2020 (UTC)
@Eric: In this case, the sole author did some test edits ("test section", "more test", "removed my test edits") and then blanked it, suiting it for both {{db-g2}} and {{db-g7}} – Athaenara 00:59, 9 June 2020 (UTC)

Prep 7

Hi Danny, just saw your new prep set. Some observations:

  1. I can't say that the lead hook is so hooky. Even if a nomination has a nice image, the hook also has to be good. You could have either asked the nominator for a better hook, or run it in a non-image slot.
  2. There are 3 sports hooks in the set. You also have 3 "first" hooks in a row. It's important to vary both the subject matter and the hook wording as you build a set.

Best, Yoninah (talk) 12:03, 10 June 2020 (UTC)

@Yoninah: Thanks for the feedback. I tried to reorder the hooks so that I wouldn't have multiple US or bio hooks next to each other (which was made harder by the fact that William Jefferson Hardin is both). I'll give it another look with fresh eyes and see if I can improve it. Thanks for the feedback DannyS712 (talk) 12:16, 10 June 2020 (UTC)
It takes a lot of time to search for hooks to make the right balance. Feel free to move out hooks into Prep 6. I could replace them later. Yoninah (talk) 12:26, 10 June 2020 (UTC)
Danny, since you hadn't gotten to it yet, I moved a few of the hooks into Prep 6. Did you notice that you promoted 3 nominations by The Squirrel Conspiracy? Unless it's a special occasion when we run a lot of the same type of hooks (like Christmas Day or the World Cup), we try to run only one nomination per editor in a set. Homo ergaster will have to be moved to a different set. One of the 2 remaining sports hooks also has to be moved out. Yoninah (talk) 20:22, 10 June 2020 (UTC)
@Yoninah: didn't realize that - thanks for pointing it out. Sorry I didn't get to it DannyS712 (talk) 20:46, 10 June 2020 (UTC)
I wish that this is something that could be reconsidered (not in this specific case, but in general for the future). It's one thing to limit the number of articles per set that were written by me, but the articles in question were all other people's work that I nominated in an effort to get more diversity in topic and especially region into DYK. The Squirrel Conspiracy (talk) 21:29, 10 June 2020 (UTC)
Also, @Yoninah: I've restored Mexican National Cruiserweight Championship back to an image hook. I disagree with your assessment that it's not interesting, and the picture itself is striking. The Squirrel Conspiracy (talk) 22:09, 10 June 2020 (UTC)
@The Squirrel Conspiracy: no one is trying to put a damper on diversity. We're running two sets a day with 8 hooks each; there's plenty of time to promote each of your hooks in turn. Yoninah (talk) 22:21, 10 June 2020 (UTC)
@Yoninah: I didn't mean to imply that you were trying to put a damper on diversity; I don't think you're trying to do that. My point was that the articles I was nominating were entirely other people's work, and that with the subjects and regions essentially random (meaning that concerns about too many hooks on a specific topic doesn't apply), I'm not sure why the restriction is in place. If they had self-nominated, there would be no problem running all three of those in a set. Was this put in place to prevent a flood of nominations? To prevent gaming at the WikiCup? I'm just trying to make it easier for people to build balanced sets. The Squirrel Conspiracy (talk) 22:30, 10 June 2020 (UTC)
@The Squirrel Conspiracy: I'm not sure why we have this "unwritten rule"; perhaps BlueMoonset could explain it better. Yoninah (talk) 22:35, 10 June 2020 (UTC)
The Squirrel Conspiracy, Yoninah, I was taught (eight years back) that individual nominators (covering self-noms and noms of others) should be limited within a single set. One slot was sufficient; if it was hard to balance a set because of a limited number of approved noms, then it could be two. When there is more than one set per day, it's easy to spread things out. In my own thinking, since a nominator is "curating" when nominating articles by others, I believe there should be a limit as to how much they affect a single set in terms of their nominations: one is better, two would be stretching it, and three or more just shouldn't be done. You're welcome to take this to the WT:DYK page to get other opinions, of course, but I don't see the advantage to or need for that kind of bunching up. BlueMoonset (talk) 23:27, 10 June 2020 (UTC)

Hook interest

Danny and The Squirrel Conspiracy, now that it looks like we're among the few editors building prep sets, I'd just like to comment on what has been my approach over the last 10 years. If you really think a hook is interesting, watchlist it and see how many hits it gets. You will find that our readership—primarily young, male, twenties—go for war hooks, sports hooks, suicides, and shocking facts. Clever hook wording can also move a hook to the top of the pageview statistics. Run-of-the-mill hooks like * ... that Arlington State College left the Texas A&M University System after 48 years to join the University of Texas System? won't even reach 1,000 pageviews in a 12-hour period. In the interests of the project, I have always taken extra time to ask nominators to improve weak hooks so we can present the best product on the main page. We have had enough calls for discontinuation of the DYK column as being fluff and trivial, though in actuality it serves an important purpose of showcasing new articles and encouraging new editors to create pages. I hope that you, too, will look at prep building as a mission to present a great product. Thank you, Yoninah (talk) 23:14, 10 June 2020 (UTC)

@Yoninah: Thanks for the suggestions DannyS712 (talk) 23:16, 10 June 2020 (UTC)

Sidebar

Hi Danny! I just wanted to check whether you plan to weigh in at Wikipedia talk:Requests for comment/2020 left sidebar update#Moving forward from here. I think we'll be ready to start the follow-up discussion soon, but as one of the two closers, you should be able to have a say in affirming which items are included in it if you want to. Cheers, {{u|Sdkb}}talk 22:26, 11 June 2020 (UTC)

@Sdkb: Speaking not as part of the close, I agree with Barkeep49 that the number of topics in a follow-up should be limited. I stand by the recommendation that the introduction to contributing page, and the "Special pages" link location, should be discussed further (along with the community portal link, though there doesn't seem to have been discussion regarding that on the talk page) DannyS712 (talk) 22:31, 11 June 2020 (UTC)
DannyS712, thanks for the quick reply. The current path we're on is that the "Special pages" link location will not be discussed further, since that was closed as consensus for it to be in the contributetools section, not as no consensus. If your reading of the consensus is that it is unclear and warrants further discussion, I'd appreciate if you could bring that up at the talk page. - {{u|Sdkb}}talk 22:36, 11 June 2020 (UTC)
@Sdkb: My apologies - I was remembering wrong. Yes, special pages should be under contributing DannyS712 (talk) 22:38, 11 June 2020 (UTC)
Oops, I misspoke above. I meant to say tools section, not contributing section. So it seems there are some different readings of that consensus? The discussion I had so far is at the "Where to put the "Special pages" link" bullet. {{u|Sdkb}}talk 22:47, 11 June 2020 (UTC)
@Sdkb: nope - just been a long day. Yes, it wasn't something we thought needed more discussion; we agreed that it should go under tools, not the proposed contribute DannyS712 (talk) 22:50, 11 June 2020 (UTC)
I relate to the long day feeling haha. Thanks for the clarification! {{u|Sdkb}}talk 22:55, 11 June 2020 (UTC)

Your help can make a difference

NPP Sorting can be a great way to find pages needing new page patrolling that match your strengths and interests. Using ORES, it divides articles into topics such as Literature or Chemistry and on Geography. Take a look and see if you can find time to patrol a couple pages a day. With over 10,000 pages in the queue, the highest it's been since ACPERM, your help could really make a difference.

This week's article for improvement (week 26, 2020)

William Mariner was an Englishman who lived in Tonga from 29 November 1806 to (probably) 8 November 1810. He later published Tonga Islands, an account of his experiences that is now one of the major sources of information on Tonga before it was significantly influenced by European culture and Christianity. Pictured is Mariner in Tongan attire.

@DanceEnthusiast the deletions are for the links from the moves, not for the draft itself DannyS712 (talk) 18:42, 23 June 2020 (UTC)
How do I prevent from making these moving link 'errors' in the future? How should I be saving my drafts? Apologies I wrote on the speedy deletion a reason for non deleting. I mistakenly thought the deletion was meant for the draft but I am sure the person reading the request will understand this and be able to delete the links without deleting the draft. Thank youDanceEnthusiast (talk) 18:48, 23 June 2020 (UTC)
They aren't errors, its just redirects left behind - if the redirect should be deleted (eg from article space to draft space) just tag the redirect for deletion yourself DannyS712 (talk) 18:53, 23 June 2020 (UTC)

Sorry, but I'm not sure I'm the right person to ask. I suggest reviewing Wikipedia:Sources for what counts as reliable. DannyS712 (talk) 01:34, 24 June 2020 (UTC)

Json format

I've looked up Json format a bit per User talk:DannyS712/Archive 9#Civil parish bot and doesn't the instructions at User:Crouch, Swale/Bot tasks/Civil parishes (current)/Simple and User:Crouch, Swale/Bot tasks/Civil parishes (current)/Coded provide enough instructions for this? Maybe I should ask at the bot noticeboard since I don't have the technical understanding to code this. Crouch, Swale (talk) 20:20, 27 June 2020 (UTC)

No, it doesn't - I'm not going to get and combine all of the data myself. If it can be provided in json format, I'll consider looking into this more, but otherwise tis not a priority, sorry DannyS712 (talk) 20:23, 27 June 2020 (UTC)
OK, I'll leave it for now and might ask later at the bot noticeboard, thanks. Crouch, Swale (talk) 20:26, 27 June 2020 (UTC)
